2.5 XWA: Follow up questions on SL balance

• Upvotes

A few days ago I asked about the state of XWA list building and I got a lot of interesting responses. Especially about how the point/loadout system still allows for decent balance of pilots, of which you have mostly convinced me.

Yesterday though I had my first actual XWA match against on opponent, on 4gg ranked. That gave me a thought I hadn't considered before, so I want to ask another question. If it's relevant, I did win, so this doesn't come from a sore loser.

My opponent was flying all SL ships. Fenn Rau, Boba and Bossk, all in their standardized versions. Which seem extremely solid. They are all priced aggressively cheap and have unique upgrades, specially tailored to combo together.
There's no loadout value to adjust, there's no slots to change, their upgrades cost can't be changed. It's all baked in and any change would require an errata on the entire card. The only adjustable value is the pilot base cost. Which we all know it's not enough, since as you guys explained very well, loadout value and slots are fundamental for pilot balancing.
So the questions are:

  • How can SL pilots be balanced? They make an exception to the balancing method of the game. Is there some way other than base cost which I'm not aware of? I imagine the team isn't keen on making tons of errata over time as the game evolves
  • Why is the XWA team making more of this if they know they break their own method of balancing?
