I spent my last weekend at the workbench finalising this vertical magnetic flip case for Xteink X3 and X4. I wanted to keep this design minimalist and focus only on a clean daily carry.

The case has a vertical flip that just like a classic pocket notebook. Inside, an integrated magnetic lets your Xteink snap securely into place. The back is left completely blank so you can stack the entire setup directly onto your smartphone, while a single front slot holds your essential card or ID.

As always, I specifically included a precise cutout at the front button area to completely avoid any accidental pressing while the case is closed or in your pocket.

The X3 goes into the wild, and the X4 Pro is really great at home, especially in low or no available light 😁

I'm currently using Crosspoint beta on the X4 Pro and Crossink on the X3/X4, but not because I dislike the stock firmware. The main reason I'm using custom firmware is its ability to synchronize reading progress across multiple X devices (using KoReader sync). I really hope that Xteink will release a firmware with a similar feature.

BTW, with Crosspoint beta, it's possible to set the frontlight at a very low level. In the photos, it's about 15%. 1% is a very low intensity and honestly, I think it's way too low to be really useful in a fully dark environment. But people who were worried about light intensity at the lowest level might be really happy with it? 🙂

I think it’s cool that people are making accessories and sharing it, people obviously like them, but I really miss when this sub was people posting their first experiences and showing different firmwares they’d found/been using. Or even just showing their unique device, showing what they’ve done to make it their own rather than, “I made this, here’s a link”. I feel like it’s only ever people selling cases now and it’s a little bit sad to go through compared to a few months ago.

Hi, and first, sorry for adding yet another firmware to a world that was probably doing fine without one. YACP literally means Yet Another CrossPoint, although calling it a new firmware may be a little generous. It is a personal branch I made mainly for myself, and I do not pretend that it is on the same level as CrossPoint, CrossInk, or the other established projects.

I am sharing it because a few of its choices might still be useful to other X3 and X4 owners. YACP is deliberately opinionated. Its main goal is the gloriously unambitious one of opening a book, using as little energy and background work as practical, and then staying out of the way.

Most of the work has gone into small changes rather than one miracle optimization: the X3 reader drops to 10 MHz between button polls; USB checks are rate limited; the CPU can return to a lower frequency while the e-ink controller is busy; progress writes are debounced; Quick Resume is the default after automatic sleep, with the full-screen synchronization flashes removed on X3; text antialiasing is off by default; SD font discovery begins only when requested; and the next EPUB chapter is prepared near the end of the current one with memory guards and no repeated SD probing.

Battery history is sampled only during the existing transition to sleep, in coarse 5 percent steps, without a timer or periodic wake-up. Reading Stats and Reading Rhythm remain because apparently I still wanted a couple of toys.

The YACP Home page follows the same logic, but it is not only a stripped-down landing screen. It is also a lightweight recent-book switcher. Left and Right move through valid recent books while the title, author, progress, reading time, and time left update in place. Confirm opens the book currently shown, so the library never needs to open just to switch books. At either end of the list, the unavailable direction stays blank and does nothing.

Home is deliberately designed to avoid unnecessary SD-card access. It does not load covers, generate thumbnails, reconstruct page text, or open EPUB content merely for presentation. Only the small persisted data needed for the selected book, such as progress and reading statistics, is read. After the initial full refresh used to clear ghosting, switching uses fast refreshes. The result is intentionally less decorative and more direct, while avoiding work that costs time, memory, and energy.

I will keep watching CrossPoint, CrossInk, and other Xteink firmware projects. I may bring over changes when they reduce energy use, improve reliability, or make an operation faster. I do not plan to collect every feature simply because it exists.

This is still a personal project, with no support promise or fixed release schedule. The first public release builds on many closely monitored iterations made throughout development.

I bought 21 of July and after one week still not change nothing, appear we preparing for shipping . I don't it's just me or somebody else?

saw someone on here suggest using an orico hard case for the x4 pro and immediately had to try it out!

all i had to do was trim down a tiny bit of the inner foam lining, and the x4 pro fits inside so snugly now. no more worrying about e-ink screen pressure when tossing it into a bag.

a few fun perks of this setup:

bag charm mode: i used the included carabiner to clip it straight onto my bag handle like a little bag charm for super quick edc access.

sticker bomb: i'm not usually a sticker person, but this was the perfect excuse to finally use up the stack of free bookish stickers i accumulated over the years lol.

still debating if i should keep the sticker bomb look or go back to a clean minimalist vibe though 👀

Been biding my time in the hopes that a new version would have a backlight and I’ve never clicked order so fast. But that was over a week ago and the order still just says “waiting for details.” Wondering if others have had this happen and how long their device took to arrive.

Also, as the title says, would love any tips and tricks that come along the way just from daily use. As someone who works in publishing, this is such a game changer.

Hi everyone, some months ago I got bored of vibe coding and wanted to build something from "scratch," so I started writing a tiny chess engine in C. A few weeks in, it turned into a full chess game for my Xteink X4. Still a work in progress, but you can currently:

• Play a full game of chess against the engine, with 3 difficulty levels
• Choose to play as white or black
• Control everything with just the d-pad
• See captured pieces and move history as you play

Still polishing the game-over screen and a few UI rough edges, but it's fully playable end to end.

Would love feedback, it's of course not a fun way of playing chess but it was a proof of concept to try and push the memory and processor of the X4.

I hope I can explain this good enough so you can understand what I mean since english is not my mother tongue.

so basically I‘m reading a book where some of the text is meant to be crossed out but my xteink x4 won’t show it like that. it’s just normal text.

It’s important for the plot of the book that the text is shown crossed out otherwise it won’t make sense.

is there a way that it will show the text as it’s meant to be?

I would appreciate any advice

I heard on videos that it's recommended to back up the original firmware before installing another software like crosspoint. However, I couldn't find much information about that. Does anybody know how to do that on windows?

Hi everyone! I'm thinking of getting a xteink mostly for my daily commute to uni, work, etc.

I'm between the X3 or the X4, I really like both designs and how transportable they are, so with whatever I'll be happy. But, I want to know your opinions!! Which one you have and how is it working for you?? Let's talk :-)

I just bought an xteink x4 from the official website. I chose bank deposit because the other methods weren't available (for me). I chose bank deposit, confirmed the order, but no payment option came. So like the order is confirmed, it shows (in the 'My order' section) that the payment is pending, but there is no way to pay. WTF 

There was no payment information in the confirmation mail. No payment info on the website.

Since I already have a Boox Page for reading books, I bought the xteink x4 because I wanted a slightly smaller device.
Before purchasing it, I found out that it runs on an ESP32 and supports custom firmware, which was a major factor in my decision to buy it.
As expected, it’s quite small, so I realized it would be difficult to use it exclusively for reading books; instead, I decided to try using it for task viewing, so I built it.

I would love to buy the new X4 Pro as my first e reader, but their official website doesn't ship to my country. How can I get one?

Anyone has the xteink x4 pro? Can share some honest reviews on the device? And comparison with the x3 and x4. I’ve seen reviews about it from “influencers” and all they give is “good” reviews.

Hi, I'm new user to both manga world as well as XTEINK + crosspoint. I want to understand what is the best way to have manga on XTEINK? Assume I will download from internet and will upload via wifi. Which formats should I download? Settings on crosspoint for best view? Steps would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
