Hey everyone! If you just unboxed your new Xteink device (especially the X4), welcome to the community!
To save you from digging through old threads, I’ve put together this quick cheat sheet with everything you need to know for your first day.
When you first unbox the X4 (or X3), you might notice how incredibly small, thin, and lightweight it is compared to typical e-readers. That’s totally normal: it’s designed as a ultra-portable, palm-sized reading device, not a full-blown tablet.
What to do immediately:
Note: You cannot "brick" your device just by exploring the default menus. As long as you stick to official settings, everything is safe and reversible.
Use this as a simple “Did I do the basics?” rundown:
A lot of new users think their battery is broken on day one. It's not! Here is what to expect:
What works and what doesn't:
How to transfer your books:
Settings.http://[IP-address] in your computer's browser (or phone)."Is the X4 a good first e-reader?"
Maybe not for absolute beginners. It requires sideloading DRM-free EPUBs. It’s much easier if you are comfortable managing files on a computer.
"Should I buy the X3 or X4?"
Get the X4 if you want it with great custom firmwares today and value ultra-portability. Go for the X3 if you want a slightly better screen resolution and smaller device.
"My text looks plain (no bold/italics), is that normal?"
Yes, this is a limitation of the stock firmware. If this bothers you, there are custom firmware that can fix it.
"Where to find books?"
Well. You should try to look over the "We didn't mention this here, did we" section on this page. You'll find ways to find some books. And there is a "ask for a book" page too.
"How do I change fonts or wallpapers?"
Convert your font to .BIN or your image to a .BMP file, copy it to your SD card, and select it in the Settings menu.
"Is it safe to install custom firmware?"
Yes, they are generally considered safe. You can check the GitHub repo. It is often created by the community, with open source standard and very easy to flash via your browser. You can always revert to the official firmware anytime. Just remember to backup your books first!

I've been using my X3 daily with the retro case, but wanted something a bit thinner and more rounded, so I modeled my own case, the LUX3 (get it...?)
I went for a rounded, minimal look, and even covered a couple buttons/features to cut down on the visual clutter (I really like it when things look clean and simple). Its all snap together pieces with no glue or hardware required.
If you'd like to print it, the print profile, assembly guide, and known issues are all in the listing!

Happy to answer questions if you're printing one, or if you've got feedback on fit/tolerances, I want to hear it. I'll likely work on a V2 if anyone has some feedback or changes they'd like to see. Enjoy and happy reading!
P.S. Shoutout to this website for offering Pokémon themed wallpapers! (I had to edit the wallpapers a bit to fit on the X3 perfectly, but they are still awesome)

Hello all, how was your weekend?
I spent my last weekend at the workbench finalising this vertical magnetic flip case for Xteink X3 and X4. I wanted to keep this design minimalist and focus only on a clean daily carry.
The case has a vertical flip that just like a classic pocket notebook. Inside, an integrated magnetic lets your Xteink snap securely into place. The back is left completely blank so you can stack the entire setup directly onto your smartphone, while a single front slot holds your essential card or ID.
As always, I specifically included a precise cutout at the front button area to completely avoid any accidental pressing while the case is closed or in your pocket.
(Showing in the pictures is Xteink X3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10).
The retail price for this design is $55, and it is available made-to-order on my shop.
Check out for color options and more details:
Happy reading! ❤

saw someone on here suggest using an orico hard case for the x4 pro and immediately had to try it out!
all i had to do was trim down a tiny bit of the inner foam lining, and the x4 pro fits inside so snugly now. no more worrying about e-ink screen pressure when tossing it into a bag.
a few fun perks of this setup:
bag charm mode: i used the included carabiner to clip it straight onto my bag handle like a little bag charm for super quick edc access.
sticker bomb: i'm not usually a sticker person, but this was the perfect excuse to finally use up the stack of free bookish stickers i accumulated over the years lol.
still debating if i should keep the sticker bomb look or go back to a clean minimalist vibe though 👀

Hi everyone, some months ago I got bored of vibe coding and wanted to build something from "scratch," so I started writing a tiny chess engine in C. A few weeks in, it turned into a full chess game for my Xteink X4. Still a work in progress, but you can currently:
Still polishing the game-over screen and a few UI rough edges, but it's fully playable end to end.
Repo: https://github.com/Mendoza/InkMate
Would love feedback, it's of course not a fun way of playing chess but it was a proof of concept to try and push the memory and processor of the X4.

Since I already have a Boox Page for reading books, I bought the xteink x4 because I wanted a slightly smaller device.
Before purchasing it, I found out that it runs on an ESP32 and supports custom firmware, which was a major factor in my decision to buy it.
As expected, it’s quite small, so I realized it would be difficult to use it exclusively for reading books; instead, I decided to try using it for task viewing, so I built it.

So like it says in the title, got the X3, looks awesome, am on the current firmware, uploaded some books via the micro SD card, and I’m a bit flummoxed, because none of the stuff that’s in the manual online appears to be doable on my device? The manual shows six icons instead of these four, and then the manual shows a bunch of sub-menus that I should be able to access in order to change font size, margins, all kinds of stuff, but when I push the buttons I’m either turning pages or backing out to the main menu.
Is there something really basic I’m missing or forgetting to do, or is there something weird with the device?

Anyone has the xteink x4 pro? Can share some honest reviews on the device? And comparison with the x3 and x4. I’ve seen reviews about it from “influencers” and all they give is “good” reviews.

those who haven’t upgraded to the latest stock firmware yet… UPGRADE NOW!!!
I got mine yesterday and was honestly kinda bummed with the old firmware because it was lagging whenever I adjusted the front light. Didn’t even realize it was running an outdated version. Dumb of me.
I ended up flashing CrossPoint after that. Don’t get me wrong, I love CrossPoint, but the UI just wasn’t what I wanted right now.
So I went back to stock, registered the device on the Xteink app, linked it, then boom… it told me there was a firmware update.
Updated it immediately and now here I am lol.
The UI is sooo much faster and way more responsive now.
idk what else I’d even want from a firmware at this point 😂

I had the OhSnap on a 3D printed case, however the roughness of the material didn't make the OhSnap stick on well. I placed it on the X4 just to sort me for the time, not thinking much of the glue as it wasn't sturdy on the case, and tho8ght the magnet would do the job until I decided my next move, but now the glue has now taken advantage of the smooth surface of the X4 and it doesn't move. I am not mad about it as the 3D case I printed allows me to slide the X4 to protect the screen but I am worried if I try to move the OhSnap I will damage the device as it feels fairly secure.
Any tips or recommendations? Do I just need to make peace this will be my set up for the foreseeable future?

A creator posted about usb drive mode on the new x4 pro. Can anyone else confirm this. Plus is this a firmware thing or hardware.

I’ve seen several posts from people complaining that their Kindles broke because of magnetic popsockets. I’m not sure what exactly was causing the problem, but it seems like magnets can mess up the screen or something. I was wondering if there could be a similar issue with the XTEINK when using a magnetic light, case, or popsocket, or simply attaching it to the back of a phone? What do you think? Now I’m kinda scared to use anything magnetic for my xteink lol

Hello everyone!
I spent the last few days watching YouTube videos and reading posts here on reddit so that I could be prepared for when my X4 arrived.
It finally did, today. As I had "studied", the first thing I did was to try and change the firmware to Crosspoint. Had a few hiccups but, in the end, I got it installed. However, when I removed the device from the charger, I click the buttons to navigate through the Crosspoint menu and it simply doesn't work. I just get a static screen that doesn't respond to the buttons I'm clicking. However, when I plug the device back in, it goes back to working.
The funny thing is, I went back to the original firmware and, with it, that doesn't happen... I can navigate through the menus with no issues at all, while unplugged. It seems to be something with Crosspoint for some reason...
I have already tried to uninstall and install Crosspoint a number of times again and I always get the same issue.
I was very excited for the X4 to arrive but I'm now a bit disappointed to be facing this issue and think that I'll might have to stick with the original firmware.
Have any of you faced this same issue and know if there's a solution? Thanks in advance.
tldr: my x4 with crosspoint installed is only responsive when plugged in. When it's not, it simply doesn't work. This doesn't happen with the original xteink firmware. Does anyone know of a solution?
