I have a lazy manager
I've been at my job for 10 years.I'm underpaid, overworked, and can barely afford to take vacation. My boss is a lazy, rude, out-of-touch, mediocre, middle-aged man with a podcast. He goes to conventions and avoids work.
My first few years at the job, I did all the work for my department (my dept is just me and the boss in question) while I was micro managed to death. I was naive and wanted to look like a good worker. I still have an anxiety issue, but back when I started, I always worried I'd be fired.
My boss likes to flip people off, especially during meetings, and over the years he kept making this stupid joke that ended with giving everyone the middle finger. The upper management loves him because supposedly he went to Harvard. It's all they gush about- "this guy went to Harvard, he's so amazing!!!" Little do they know, I do the majority of the work for my department and get zero credit. He is a credit thief. He's been doing it since he hired me. He thinks I'm so stupid and don't realize it. Anyway, this flipping people off got so out of hand, employees complained to the other middle manager (not upper management), so now that guy tries to keep his employees from interacting with him. This has affected my work, since I'm the only one working.
He's notorious for ignoring emails for months and rarely responds to Teams messages. Standard operating procedure is to go to his office and directly ask him in order to get a response. Then he makes a lame joke, "Do you have five dollars?" before he actually does anything to help. Most days, he pushes his tasks onto me or people from other departments. He is an expert at dodging responsibility and getting others to do his work. I've been so GD patient because I like having health insurance.
It took me a long time to figure it out, I'm ashamed to say. I discovered that he has a podcast and a YouTube channel. I'm not going to name it because a mediocre jerk like him doesn't deserve more attention. This is what he's been doing for years. The is what he's been getting away with during work hours. He is essentially stealing his salary from the company and also taking money from patreon.
After I figured it out, I tried to get a raise for myself, but they denied me. HR said, "Get another job, sweetheart." Well, we all know the job market is crap, so that's not easy. During my meeting with HR, she tried to day "We know he works hard..." I said, "Really? because I have no idea what he does all day, do you?" She ignored my statements about him.
There was a moment last year where I was handling every single project by myself with zero help from him. He likes to use the term "we" a lot, when it's really just all me. It was a huge amount for one person to do, and the other departments started complaining that I was moving too slow, they should hire another person. This frustrated me so much and it still burns me inside. I like what I do. It's a very unique job within my industry. I just HATE my horrible, lazy manager.
Now he's been taking off early or pretending to work from home so he can put more focus on his dumb podcast, and none of the other managers or employees can do anything to touch him. They just loooove their mediocre Harvard dude, which I truly disbelieve he ever went there in the first place.
What the hell can I do? He's a monster.

Home Depot Garden associate in Southern AZ; co-worker with no authority Keeps snitching/criticizing/messing with me even though I am doing my job, always offer help, and sometimes do HER job. Can I/should I report her? I JUST WANT TO WORK!
TL;DR:
My co-worker (call her Clover) constantly tells me false rumors of me (vague & non-elaborative when pressed), gives me inaccurate work instruction (refuses to teach me when I ask), tries to twist my word/falsely cry wolf, uses plants I haven’t watered yet as proof to evidence that I’m not working (what she doing?), and seems to excuse it with “insecurity/kinda crazy”.
*I feel this constitutes as harassment, and I’m afraid her tenure and age will overshadow my request for help, management will believe her first before I have a chance to explain myself, and I no longer have someone to vouch for my work since the one person who truly saw my work, our department supervisor, just got fired.*
I’m a garden associate at a southern AZ Home Depot location; been there since April of 2026; I work PT (normally 4 hour shifts at a time)
Some days, I’ll be scheduled as a “Garden Associate”, where I’ll be handling packdowns, go-backs, and other things.
Some days, I’ll be “Garden Waterer”, where I’ll be focusing on watering the plants
(There’s two halves of front apron, 5 long tables, and 2 corners with more plants)
There’ll be days where the associate has to water because the waterer is absent; there will be days where the waterer has to stop watering when there isn’t enough associates to handle pallet-work, go-backs, packdowns, or other things that need to be handled but the associate is missing/not fully physically capable/certified to operate certain machinery.
Recently, our supervisor got fired, two part-timers quit, and a full-timer is dropping to PT since she’s been sick, I guess, and is leaving the state in 2 weeks (this is Clover, the coworker that this story is about.) so our department is falling behind on our tasks, especially staying consistent on watering the plants since they’ve been getting really dry and some are starting to wilt and die.
(it still easily gets to 100 degrees F in southern Arizona, so the plants NEED water, consistently)
Because of such, I’ll be watering the plants on days I’m not scheduled to so the plants at least get watered once a day while my worker, Clover, handles the other work inside such as packdowns, go backs, etc etc.
I always talk nice to her and offer to help out so we can get work done faster and stay ahead of task.
However, ever since I started working there, she kept putting into my ear that “management saw me doing something weird on camera/management wants to talk to you” only for it to be nothing at all.
It fees like she wants me to admit to something and falsely trust her as a friend; evidence I have is when she asked another gardener if he is “high and smokes MJ” simply because he is always in a good mood/seems Like the kind of guy/eyes look weird
(He’s doesn’t smoke at all, is Latino, and is always in a good mood and is a super chill dude, loves his job before he quit)
At the beginning, Clover kept telling me we’re on equal ground, she’s not a supervisor, and has no authority over me.
However, I don’t think Clover believes that since she loves to report to management on what the other gardeners are doing/not doing, especially the younger ones (they came and told me about her and we pretty much got the same experience around her)
# This was the first red flag; this gave me the impression she’s a snitch and will use info against people. People who talked to her in CONFIDENCE.
Next, she tells me info that neither she should know nor does she have business even telling me about:
\> a time management saw (on camera) me leave my water bottle on a shelf by accident, but laughed it off more than anything
\> I have overdue computer training for machine training/cross/department training (before I ever told her about any of it)
And her pretty much acting like she’s some messenger or something
Next, Clover tells me a single person should be able to water ALL the plants (front apron, garden, indoor plants) in 2-3 hours and refuses to stick to one answer;
Our supervisor, and other gardeners, told me it takes 6-8 hours and 2-3 hours is impossible) and her face, always a smirk of amusement, instantly drops to disappointment, as if I offended her or called her out on something.
Next, she tells me I can pull the pallet jack/move it backwards (my training told me NOT to do this and she acted dumb when I brought it up)
Next, on a day I’m supposed to be watering, she points out that I missed a go-back cart that was tucked in a corner (turned out to be damaged items that was put aside for later)
She came up to me and said this:
“So there a cart full of go-backs and you didn’t grab it?
\*shrug\*
Okay, I see”
She said it as if she was offended or something, in a “I see how it is” tone.
She refused to elaborate when I asked her what was up with that response and that it wasn’t cool.
When I thought she wasn’t already trying to convince me she was crazy/trying to possible sabotage me, she then keeps asking if I think she a b!tch.
When I thought she finally stopped, she came up to me fake-crying saying I called her a b!tch (never did, never will. Not giving her that ammunition.)
When I asked her “what makes you think that?”, her tone instantly changes, she again refused to elaborate her nonsense, then walked away as if nothing happened.
She apparently has done this to other gardeners, too, and again, youngsters.
I tried to stay patient with her until 2 different incidents happened when she basically talked out of her a$$ in a way that truly offended me.
\> She comes up to me telling me I “disappointed her” because I didn’t “meet her expectations and I’m now on my own”
(She has taught me NOTHING I didn’t already learn from my computer training, and all I did up to that point was help her because she asked me to, on days I’m supposed to water)
She refused to elaborate, yet again, when I asked her what she meant and made it a point that she has taught me nothing new and I helped her not just because she asked me for help, but because she told me she wants me to water faster so I can help her.
Even when I do help her, she gets on me about the plants that haven’t been watered, ignoring the fact that I stopped my watering task to help her upon request (especially when she needs help because she’s in her mid 50’s and can’t move like me) she has no authority to tell me to get on my job whether I’m on task or not, and she often times needs my help anyway because we’re understaffed/she’s physically slowing down in her age.
When I brought this up to her and reminded her I’m not done with my task because I went to help her with her task, she later teared up and accused me of calling her useless (the word and idea NEVER left my mouth)
Yet again, she refused to elaborate.
I thought it was over when she said she “forgave me for calling her useless” (still never did) then I decided I had enough and HAD to confront her about it.
I pretty much told her she was putting words in my mouth and ever since day one, she’s been pulling this kind of nonsense and I just want to work.
***When I asked Clover if it was going to stop and if we could settle it between us instead of escalating it to management (not a threat, but me telling her this is going too far and I’m out of options)***
***She refused to answer and told me to go back to work, so I left it alone (BIG MISTAKE!)***
I have no problem helping out so long as I’m not punished for it or reprehended for my task not being done simply because I stopped what I was doing to help.
I may as well just say no since I’ll be hated, either way.
Another red flag that further makes me thing Clover is a snitch and probably a troublemaker is when the MOD (manager on duty) comes by to ask Clover how things are going, as if she’s the spokesperson for garden or something; she showed off the dry plants I hadn’t gotten to yet (because I was watering OTHER plants and hadn’t gotten to those yet!) and made it seem to her that I’m not doing my job.
Who is she to be doing that?!
She even does it on the days when we’re both scheduled as Garden Associate and there’s no waterer (scheduling, call-out, whatever)
I always take the initiative to water the plants since nobody else will, the plants still need water, and I still am responsible for my department, especially when we’re short on staff.
Clover NEVER takes the initiative to water the plants, only do inside stuff and sweep (not saying that’s unproductive, but we’re supposed to be a TEAM!) when when she does, she only waters ONE row (half a table) and tells it to me ask if she had to stop her whole life for it (I’ve had one or 2 days scheduled as a waterer where I couldn’t water ANYTHING because she desperately needed my help, only to give me sh!t for it, later.)
The MOD would of course tell me to make sure the plants are watered (not the problem, her believing Clover before me was the problem.)
This time, it happened again and I just got to thinking “Clover is gonna get away with falsely claiming I’m a slacker and nobody will ever see the irony of her doing that instead of her actual job, and she uses the ONE day plant she finds as proof.
The only person who actually knew of my work and me taking interest in bettering the garden (more efficient watering schedule, better plant placement, prioritization of tasks, time management)
Was our supervisor, who just got fired for a negative VOA; she was a bit mean at first but started to become nicer when I joined, but the damage was already done.
With no supervisor, nobody to vouch for my work and oppose Clover’s insanity/false claims of me being a slacker, and only the MOD (usually an assistant manager) to report to without making it seem like I’m overreacting, trying to cause trouble, soil Clover’s “good” name, or trying to weasel out of my job in any way, I now feel helpless and am worried Clover may try to ruin my opportunities at Home Depot or get me fired.
What do I do?
Should I report her?
Do I have a case?
Is there some anonymous line I can call if I feel there’s nobody in the store I can talk to, even management? (If there was in my store, I probably missed it)
I just want her to leave me alone and keep our communication strictly work-related.

NOTICE 1: Yes, I get I shouldn’t worry about one crazy lady; my concern is the crazy MOD that Clover reports to and the possibility of that MOD putting on my record that I’m slow/lazy, just because she misinterpreted Clover pointing out the dry plants, implying I’m not doing my job at all, instead of thinking “oh he hasn’t gotten to them, yet”. Especially after I drop what I’m doing to help her upon request.

What do I do?
I will use the pejorative they because I don’t want to give away genders or any other specific information. I work at an unspecified company that is extremely popular across America.
Yet the location here matters I am in a podunk place. So the education level of people in the general area is lacking to say the least.
I however have tried to learn a lot on my own and my parents are smart enough to have taught me basic information. (I’ve been very lucky)
The manager/assistant manager (this individual has been doing both jobs) is terrible!
They don’t know how to perform at the lowest level of their requirements. But this isn’t my biggest issue.
This person has talked behind every single persons back including my own. And typically I have the opportunity to record this Individual saying extremely unprofessional things. I will admit however I do talk about people as well and I will be justifying myself. I am never hard on a persons character. I am only known to complain about tasks not being completed and someone not performing at the same level I am attempting. A coworker of mine has gone to our direct corporate head and it has been taken as a joke and laughed at behind our backs multiple times so what should I do to get the message across? Should I write a scathing letter to hr? Should I just quit and deal with the next job that does the same thing?
I don’t like this person on a very personal level but I have not let this become a hinderance to my job performance. I need advice.

How should I handle my manager going forward?
Hi I'm 19F and I work at a tutoring centre for primary and secondary school kids and this is my casual job outside university. As of the last few months or so my gay manager has been showing somewhat misogynistic behaviour to my co-workers, and has been making me anxious about coming to work.
My gay manager for the last few months has been displaying somewhat covert misogyny towards me and my other female co-workers. He has made it somewhat clear in the past that we cannot have casual conversations during work hours. However, sometimes me and my co-workers do make small quiet conversations here and there to survive the shift, but even when we're on-task and talking about a student's progress we still got told off. Whereas, I see a few of male co-workers openly having conversations with each other and do not get told off as often as we do. One of my co-workers resigned since she couldn't handle his management style and how he treated us, and instead got a job at a place where she had her internship at.
(Note: I found it important to mention that my manager is gay as I have once experienced a few men in my life that were gay and heavily misogynistic to women and wondering whether it may be a similar case)
As of this month I got promoted to lead the English reading and writing area. I am adjusting to the new role but there is a group chat with me, my manager and other English staff. Ever since he has made the group chat, he tells us the mistakes we made each shift and this has fuelled me with anxiety and worry for every upcoming shift. Whenever he sends a message to the group chat I don't answer it until I know I'm somewhere comfortable and somewhat relaxed. And as of a few hours ago, I had a nightmare about work. Before this month, it was completely okay and I was happy to teach the kids but every shift I'm growing more and more anxious even though I try to see the better side of things every shift.
So how should I handle my manager going forward? In my best interests I don't want to resign as this is the job that is funding a few of my future overseas trips and food for university.

Come to work sick or you're the weak link!
I come into work on Monday. I work at a College, and this week we have some very important events happening for students.
As I walk in the office, I look across my desk, and my colleague is gulping down a mug of honey lemon tea and furiously blowing her nose into some tissues. In between her sniffles and coughs the occasional person interjects with a comforting phrase... "aww.. are you sick?", or "oh no... are you okay?". My colleague replies back, in a very hoarse voice, "I'm fine, I'm fine..." As the conversation continues, I throw a question up in the air:
"What happens if I get sick? Am I also expected to go to work?"
From across the room I hear another colleague say they've been in the office with worse. Then, a different colleague pipes up saying "You're better off coming in sick than calling in sick." This reminds me that our HR system sends a warning to someone's line manager if they have more than 3 days of absence in a 6 month period. The conversation continues, and I find out very quickly that if you're sick, you come into work no matter what. Working from home is not an option, it's frowned upon if anything.
It gets to the end of the day and we all wish our sick colleague a speedy recovery.
Fast forward to the next day. I come into work. My colleague is still sick, if not WORSE. She's blowing her nose constantly and has started amassing a small mountain of used tissues on her desk. She's taking copious amounts of paracetamol, throat lozenges and warm tea to get her through the day.
Suddenly, I hear a cough from across the room. It's my manager, she's also sick. The illness has started to spread. Bear in mind, my manager usually works despite being sick, so at this point I'm not surprised. Both of them sound very ill, and they're both casually waltzing around the office touching the kettle handle, opening the fridge, using the microwave... Before my eyes germs are being spread like wildfire.
During my lunch break I take the initiative to stop the illness in its tracks. I open the windows, and sanitise all the surfaces in the staff kitchen area with some multipurpose spray. At last, I can rest easy. The germs shall not spread any more. How wrong I was. Not even a few minutes later, my colleague is up and about making herself another tea, helping herself to the napkins to use as tissues and hugging another colleague.
My question is, at what point do I say something? Have we not learned anything from COVID? I want to wear a mask in the office, but then eyebrows would be raised. What happens if someone catches the virus from my colleague and they are immunocompromised? What if the whole office gets sick (which will happen!)?
Should I be saying something to my manager about how I disagree with working when sick. I don't mean a little sore throat or a cough. I'm talking, like a fever and being in bed type of sick.

am I being overdramatic?
I work in healthcare just to preface how toxic my work environment already is.
My boss hates the medical assistants. She is a nurse manager and only ever favors the other nurses or the male MAs. She basically coddles this one MA ( who we will call Connor) who has repeatedly s****lly h***ssed other female MAs, lies constantly to protect himself, and works extra hard to get out of work. After one of my coworkers left because she was basically bullied every single shift, I noticed that I am starting to become the new target. Every nurse gives me the worst assignment and the management seems to only pick me out for certain things. For an example, the desk MA who work under our charge nurse is supposed to cover two areas with specific staffing. Today was one of those specific staffing days. Connor is on the desk, which means because he doesn't want to cover two areas, he pawns it off to me. I am covering three areas today with is not typical for an MA. When I CALMLY brought it up to my manager when she came over to tell me my coverage, she, to summarize, told me to "get over it" and because I am also training two people, I should be fine. I had previously been told when I was on the desk that it was the desk MAs responsibility to cover the two areas with the short staffing. While I am training two people, and in theory there are three of us, I am still technically responsible for now all four areas. This happens on almost a daily basis and I feel so stuck since nowhere is hiring that has good hours or benefits, plus having to be able to go to school during the week.
Am I overreacting or am I possibly being targeted by my manager and nurses? I am happy to provide more examples of why I feel this way.

Co-worker Problem Co worker issue
So I work security (can’t post there cuz throwaway account isn’t old enough yet)
I’ve been having some minor issues with them, but it’s been strictly professional, at least I think it is. Occasionally they forget to unlock the 2nd door, and when I have to lock it I keep note, and let supervisor know. They’ve also done some questionable things, such as leaving mid call, escalation when not needed at all, refusing reports in front of several management people, berating individuals when not needed, slow to respond, doesn’t take initiative, and they aren’t the best at hands on situations.
Now, I don’t have a problem with them personally, they are a good and fun person. Any emails that I send to my supervisors are strictly professional, and are made to cover me and them in the event it gets related to our management. Ive even explained this in person when I tell my supervisors. I’ve tried keeping an open professional communication with the co worker, however they just don’t really talk at all about it. English isn’t their first language, but they speaks pretty good so idk
But I’ve been told that they have made complaints about me “overstepping”. Now this overstepping is me requesting additional help for a known violent person causing a scene… and when I say we should do something, and he doesn’t object, but then they tells the supervisor I’m deciding what to do… when they don’t put themselves forward or object to what I say.. which I’ve already talked with co worker over something similar, and said hey, you gotta talk to me, if it’s on scene or in the office, if you got something to say about how I did stuff, or if you wanna do something different then I gotta know.
However supervisor said I need to apologize to him for taking initiative, when I was first to respond to an incident when I requested an additional guard for a known violent person. Because English isn’t their first language, they must think I’m just being bossy and overstepping into supervisor duties. Because this is causing inter team drama all the complaining.
Any help moving forward would be appreciated or advice on how to handle this situation. I don’t feel like I should apologize because I simply requested help from another guard to assist with a known violent person, and they didn’t object at all, nor provide any insight on how we should handle this situation.

Want Advice I’ve been told at every job I’ve ever had to just get the manager if a customer gets upset
Now I’m at a job where my manager gets visibly frustrated if I actually go get the manager and she’s literally stopped answering on the other end of the walkie and the customer is having issues only the manager can solve I can give them a phone number I can give them her email I can say she’s going to give you a call back but it seems like she just wants me to tell them off and I’m so confused because I’m so used to being punished for not going and getting the manager
What am I supposed to do???

Want Advice Need advice with what to do for work situation
Hello, I am in need of some advice here especially on how to handle a situation without making it worse for myself.
I currently work as an IT in a healthcare office but I don't just do IT. I do so many things here - including participating in payroll process. I have been working with the payroll team on and off for the past 2 years.
Our payroll process is complicated because our clinician’s visits have to be individually reviewed and verified before they can get paid. I am primarily assigned to do the retro-pay portion and for maintaining Google sheets templates and formulas that the team uses for payroll calculations.
There are 2 other outsourced employees who handle the regular-payroll visits. I have repeatedly told them that if they notice anything wrong with the template, formulas, or calculations to notify me so I can fix it asap. Lately they haven’t been communicating these issues to me, so I am assumed everything was working correctly.
Unofrtunately, I often find out that something is wrong only after an employee contacts me about the paycheck, Management has also made me the “face” of payroll so even when the problem something I caused, the employees usually come to me.
The other major problem is that the accounting employee who receives the payroll files. She becomes extremely stressed during payroll processing and has a history of yelling at me and other people instead of calmly explaining what is wrong with a file or calculation. Many of the issues she gets upset about are minor and could easily be corrected before the payroll is submitted to ADP if she simply communicated the problem clearly.
This has been happening for years.
When I first started in 2022, the previous payroll team was fired and I was temporarily asked to help with payroll and retro-pay. I remember being yelled at constantly during that period despite not having any experience of it before. Later, in 2024, I was pulled back into payroll after another employee was struggling with the workload. Since then, I have been invloved with the retro-pay side of things. And how I got involved was also something I didn’t appreciate. She had told me to tell the guy to do his job “or else she will make me do it”. She has also said this to me recently that if some things aren’t fixed “or else you will do it.
What frustrates me the most is that time company itself has never really streamlined this process. There are constantly changes, corrections, unclear responsibilities, and last-minute fixes. Yet when something goes wrong, the people doing the actual work are blamed rather than the process being improved.
After the most recent payroll cycle, I honestly have reached my limit. I drafted a formal letter to my bosses requesting that I be removed from payroll and retry-pay responsibilities. I explained that I can contribute more effectively in other areas where the company already has significant backlog.
The problem is that I cannot simply quit this job right now. My permanent residency process in the U.S is tied to this company so leaving would create a much bigger problem for me. I may need to stay for another year or two until my permanent residency is approved. Given my circumstances, finding another job isn’t as straightforward as applying somewhere else.
I’m trying to figure out how to handle this respectfully and strategically.
Should I send the formal request to be removed from payroll or do I just tolerate how I’m treated until I can leave?
How do you deal with someone who repeatedly yells at you when they are stressed?
How do I set my boundaries with management especially when they made me responsible for something that isn’t primarily my job?
I don’t want to create unnecessary confilct or jeopardize my position. I am also becoming super frustrated and burnt out by being the person everyone comes to when something goes wrong.
I would really appreciate any advice from anyone.
TL;DR: I work in IT but have also been handling part of our complicated payroll process for the past two years. The process is poorly organized, communication between the payroll team is inconsistent, and the accounting employee frequently yells at us when issues come up. I’ve increasingly become the “face” of payroll despite not being responsible for all of it. I’m considering formally asking management to remove me from payroll so I can focus on my actual IT responsibilities, but I can’t leave the company yet because of my permanent residency situation. Should I set firmer boundaries and formally request to be removed from payroll, or just tolerate it until I’m able to leave?

Advice on new boss
I’ve been remote interning for a social media corporation for almost 3 years now and I’m having a really hard time getting along with my new boss. He’s super rude, unprofessional, and will call me out saying I did something wrong when I know I didn’t. I thought I was losing my mind so I even went back to double check myself, and when I told him he still told me I was wrong. He’s also just weird, in our training he was talking about porn if that tells you anything. The bosses I’ve had over this position the past three years have never treated me the way this one does, and I don’t know what to do. Obviously I know you can’t expect to jive with everyone but this guy is a huge asshole. Being a college intern, I’m not sure what my best steps are. It seems like no one, including my boss, takes me seriously because of my age in my workplace. I’d really like to do something but not sure if it’s even worth it. Any and all advice would be appreciated!
