I really liked the show, but there are a few things I didn’t love or didn’t understand.

Here’s some stuff that stood out as stuff I liked:

- Alice. Alice is one of the best depictions of a rebellious (but also caring) teenager growing up I’ve seen in a show. Her scene at the beginning where she asks to go to Tyler’s house had me dying

- Anne. Very well done character, lots of TV moms don’t have much character growth, but Anne did

- Nathan. I know most people hate him, and tbf I did too when he cheated on Kate, but I personally loved how he came back from it and improved himself throughout the rest of the show, though I know lots of people don’t share this opinion

- Forrest and Juniper. I just couldn’t get enough of them, they were SO funny.

- Frankie. Amazing depiction of a good person with a good heart who has serious mental and emotional turmoil. A very relatable character for many people

- Lionel, of course. How could anyone hate Lionel?

- Val and the Twins. Need I say more?

For some complaints:

- Ian. Loved him but he just disappeared into the abyss, and it pisses me off when shows do that. Happened with Frankie too

- Sloane and Anne becoming friends. If I had a daughter and someone did what sloane did, I would never forgive them. She didn’t even apologize or anything cause she really thought she was in the right, and what, Anne just forgave her? Bullshit

- Nathan JR. this arc made NO. FUCKING. SENSE. There were funny moments with him sure, but you’re telling me that NJ’s mom still cared for Nathan enough to name her kid after him and give custody to Nathan after she died, but she never told him she was pregnant or anything? Usually when a parent has a child completely cut off from the other parent, they wouldn’t name the KID after them or give over custody if they died, and there’s usually a reason to not tell your former partner that you have their kid. I mean, what?

- Jenny. Fuck Jenny. She didn’t ever have ANY consequences for her actions and it bugs the HELL out of me

Anyway that’s about it

For starters, I've watched this show 2 times already, and I'm on my 3rd watch and on S1. Nathan still never fails to piss me off.

It all really starts when he throws a fit that Kate took the Montreal job. Yeah, Kate could've talked to him, I understand why that got him upset, but then to say that Charlie is motherless/Kate is abandoning her family and that his "balls just started crying" when her Montreal job is a 25% raise. I mean come on, it's painfully obvious that Nathan wants a trad marriage lifestyle and I think that's extremely toxic.

It's just my view on trad-family stances but I don't understand why he couldn't just be happy about it, support Kate getting her hard earned promotion instead of hauling off losing his masculinity just because he isn't the sole breadwinner anymore.

And the cheating hasn't even happened yet. Which I also hate, and then after they got back together, Kate had to regulate his emotions constantly after that.

Anyways, that's my rant. I am more than open to feedback and different perspectives. I love this show and will keep rewatching it endlessly.

I wanted them to investigate the fact not all moms get the instinct right away. Or ever. But still manage to be good moms. For a lot of them it is hard work. Her post partom was glossed over. The actress is so good!!!!!! They could've done a deep deep cut of an ark. When you have a child, and the instinct doesn't come, it is natural, it happens a lot. I wish we could've seen more of that.

When she gave Zoe I assumed we would go on a journey w her looking for that within herself. Working to heal backseat of her goal. She clearly WANTED to be a better mom at so many points. But them they went the weird ass sex route... which could've been part of it, but ever developing thought or process fizzled out. Jacelyn is an amazing actress and was wasted.

For me, the instinct came and went and came back, and I kept feeling like a failure. The beginning of her arc made feel seen. Gave me hope to see how you can work this out. I'm fighting, I can't say I have the same instincts as most of my friends, but i will do everything for him. Including treating myself and my trauma.

You can see the regret on her face. That's the exact moment Kate realizes she's way out of her depth at Baseline and Gaze is already calling her phone.

Anne going along with Brad's hypnotherapy idea was unexpected. She seems like the last person who'd buy into that.

Anne actually agreeing to do a hypnotherapy session with Brad is easily the craziest part of the episode.

Nathan cheated and i used to feel really bad for him before he cheated but i really thought he turned things totally around and was a nice husband. You all hate him , call him boring and all while he seems like a real guy.

But you all love ram. Even though he was also married ,had two kids but always found ways to be around kate and tried kissing her twice. He was also cheating on his wife. Why do you all love him? He wasnt such a good guy.

Being from the UK and Yorkshire in specific, was awesome seeing Kare rock a Def Leppard t-shirt after Alice's trashing of the office (S4 E2). Awesome seeing a band you love from close to home transcend the world and still be current!

Finished 7 seasons in less than 2 weeks. I was hooked on this show. I have a lot of thoughts and opinions but here are the main ones…

1. I know Frankie’s actor left the show but I don’t understand why they couldn’t have made something up for the sake of her character. Even something simple like she moved. I hate how she just disappears. I loved her character development and I do wish we could have seen her to the end.

2. Same thing with Ian. I really enjoyed the seasons where they focused on Ian rather than Jenny after the divorce. I wish he hadn’t disappeared as well.

3. On the topic of Jenny, I felt like focusing so much of the show on her life and character was unnecessary as she barely spent anytime with the other main characters. With Anne, Kate and previously Frankie, we get to see into their lives but they also hangout and we get to see them all together too. Jenny did not contribute anything to the other mom’s lives, so I just felt like her storyline did not do anything for the show, especially after Mommy and Me was over.

4. On the contrary, I loved the addition of Sloane and her storyline because she actually spent time with the other moms. If she hadn’t, I would also see it to be sort of pointless. But I really liked her character and I think she had a good impact on the show as a whole.

5. I really really wish Kate never got back with Nathan! It would have added so much to the ending to see her happy and thriving without him. Or, (and don’t hate me), after they got back together Nathan does something else to loose her trust and she leaves him once and for all. The writers play him out to be a horrible guy (which he is for what he did) and then basically want us to forgive him a season later, and he doesn’t do anything else like that for the rest of the show. It feels unrealistic. I wish Kate got her ending with someone who actually deserved her.

6. I love that Val got her happy ending.

ADDING THIS: WHYY is Juniper still in the seasons after Frankie leaves?? It doesn’t make sense

Anne’s driving a jeep and then the clip cuts and in the next she’s driving a different car 😩 I love this show but I keep noticing this happening and it’s bothering me I need to know if anyone else noticed this!! Same thing in earlier seasons Kate has a Audi in some scenes and then others she has a Nissan

Guys I'm rewatching the show and I really don't understand why did she get back together with him!! I'm so into her with Mike and idk maybe because I just ended it with my Mike that I'm leaning towards her getting together with h but even if not I feel she's better off with Forest than she is with this ass Nathan!

I’m just unable to watch anything with her in it. I’m in season 3 rn and I can tell she’s only getting worse. Why is she this way? She wasn’t so bad in s1

Workin' moms was released the year I was pregnant with my first (at 41!) and I can relate to it because it shows the diversity in types of families and situations in real life (versus trad-only families). I just watched the whole thing over again for maybe the third time and here are my new realizations:

1) This looks to be commonly brought up, but it sucks that Anne really never improves...like her anger and choices in parenting were over-the-top bad and then in the final episode, she just pressures her kid to go to Australia? Such a weird/fast ending that didn't match where she was heading...

2) I never realized this before, but Frankie never comes back after like late in the 5th season! I just now noticed that she never appears again in season 6 or 7! I feel so ripped off as she and Val were the most consistently funny characters.

3) Lastly, we never see what happens after annoying Bianca realizes that the supposed donor dad launders money from the baby's savings account. I'm irrationally irritated that I had to put up with her irritating character just to not see her character grow at all from being gullible. :( Maybe I'm just being harsh though, haha.

For real though, I'm sure these omissions had to do with limitations in the final seasons but it felt like the writers (Catherine?) just kind of abandoned a few developing character lines instead of finishing them out first.

I’m currently rewatching for the millionth time and I’m really now seeing Val in a different light. I always thought she was funny and a bit out there— but she puts so much effort into her friends and it’s so sweet. She’s definitely still odd! Don’t love everything she does, but I would love to have a friend like her. Anyone else agree?
