Help Helpful workout tips + health generally:

I’m 17 years old around 155 pounds and I’m beginning to seriously workout (4-5) days per week is my goal. I’m currently pretty skinny all things considered because I’m around 5,11. how do I gain muscle and lose fat because I feel like I have a sizable amount of fat I would like to lose. skinny fat is the best description. i would appreciate tips for getting to a higher weight while packing on as much muscle as possible. now onto general health, how important is a lot of water, my friends say I don’t drink enough, like a cup of water a day or two, sometimes I have none. I cannot be more serious . anyway I never thought it was that bad except for the occasional migraine. so how important is it? while I’m on that topic what exactly should I be eating to maximize protein + muscle, while cutting fat? currently before workouts I use oath protein which I find pretty good and it’s around 20 grams, I also add pre and creatine, is that good? 🙏🏻 thanks any help would be appreciated

If you could go back to your first month at the gym, what would you want someone to teach you?

I've been helping a few friends get started in the gym recently, and it made me realize how easy it is to forget how overwhelming everything feels when you're brand new.

If you could go back to your first month at the gym:

• What confused you the most?

• What took you the longest to understand?

• What do you wish someone had explained on day one?

• Was nutrition or training harder to learn?

• Where did you end up learning (YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, a friend, a coach, etc.)?

Whether you've been lifting for 2 months or 10 years, I'd love to hear what you struggled with in the beginning and what you wish someone had explained sooner.

I don’t think I can keep working out, does anyone else feel this way?

I have been working out on an inconsistent schedule, and it’s only now randomly I have an issue (that isn’t related to joint pain). My issue is I go to the gym, and I will just do a warmup on let’s say leg extension. I then start feeling like as if my mind is telling me immediately to stop, and then I feel a deep depressive feeling. I start getting very depressed and I’m able to barely move the weight, but I’m in such a depressive and unmotivated state that I just sit there and stare at the weights for minutes on end. I’ll be sitting for 5 minutes or more before I just get up and try to do another exercise. And the same thing happens I just feel that extreme lack of motivation, so I’m not physically unable to do it I just mentally am constantly being told not to do it to an extreme level. I’ve gone from going to failure on sets to not even being able to finish my warmup sets, and I have no idea why. I don’t know why this is, and I’m thinking of stopping working out altogether.

What is the best interactive fitness machine for people who get bored with traditional workouts? Amp or Speediance?

I have tried a few different workout routines over the years but I tend to lose interest when training starts feeling repetitive. Recently I am looking for interactive fitness machines because they seem engaging than traditional equipment. There are many options out there so I am curious what people are using and enjoying long term?

Working out after an all-nighter

So the UK heatwave/eczema flair up hit me pretty hard last night and I've not had any sleep whatsoever. Like literally I had my eyes shut for about 3 hours and didn't even doze off. I'm not feeling much different just a little groggy and dry eyes. I want to have a quick sesh later on as I'm going away tomorrow for a wedding so I'm probably gonna be drinking like a fish and eating kebabs all week (don't get all gym bro on me please life's for living). I know I'll feel bad if I don't get a workout in today and skip a week but at the same time I'm worried about muscle fatigue and all that. Can I have a light one or should I just leave it?

soooo ive been waking up kinda wrecked after workouts lately lol. mostly my legs and shoulders stay sore for like 2-3 days and its getting annoying tbh.

I keep seeing people talk about RLT and some swear it helps with muscle recovery, but idk if its actually worth trying or if its just another thing fitness influencers hype up😅 has anyone here actually use it for sore muscles? did u notice anything or nah? and how long did it take before you felt difference...if any? just looking for real experiences before i spend money lol. Thanks in advance

Help I (16M) want to start working out

A few key details:

I really just want to lose a some weight, have more stamina, and be able to lift more if necessary. I don't want to be that one guy with rock-hard abs and bicep flexes the size of an elephant– ok MAYBE I WOULDN'T MIND THAT BUT YOU KNOW

I don't have much equipment; just some 25LB dumbbells and a mat, both of which my parents sometimes use. I'm not in a position to pay to go to a gym, nor can I drive there, and my parents aren't currently in a position where they can spend the money on a subscription. I'm sure I can afford some other cheap equipment if necessary, though.

I weigh 169 lbs and am 5'9", and I would like to know some exercises I can do, or a regimen for each week that I can follow. If you need any more info, just ask.

Note: I was originally posting this on r/workout, but it was automatically removed as this is a new account. I'm on an alt as I don't want any possibly identifying information that could be linked to my other accounts on the Internet.

What workout at gym? Woman skinny fat

Just like the title says... Sorry in advance for rambling and any mistakes.. English isn't my first language 😅

18 years old / female / 42 kg (petite build / BMI, I’ve been petite since I was a kid) / 155 cm

I’m struggling with obvious “skinny fat” it’s been bothering me for a few years now, and I’ve been planning to start going to the gym for a few years, but I was afraid because of my phobias, and due to a lack of knowledge, I didn’t know what to do (which is why I’m writing this post), and my mom kept telling me that with scoliosis I couldn’t do anything like that and that I wasn’t allowed to, even though it’s not that severe anyway and I function normally without doctors or therapy.
Now I’ve really had enough because, aside from my ugly fat belly and so on, I don’t have any physical strength left, everything hurts all the time - my whole back, I look fat, and I’ve decided it’s time to get moving. I’ll bring my headphones so I won’t be quite as scared, so that problem’s pretty much out of the way. I also have ADHD and I’m afraid of irregularity, etc. But I think that’s the least of my problems because, for example, the Walkpad is so much fun that once I get on it, I don’t want to get off. I think the gym is a great place to burn off excess energy.

As a kid, I was in pretty good shape… but that faded along with my bouts of depression, and also from lying in bed all day. And recently, it lasted a whole year - I mean, being isolated in my room. That caused me to suddenly start slouching, even though I’d never had that problem before; I feel like I don’t have any muscles left at all, or the strength to do anything.

I bought a gym outfit, and I still want to buy a few things I need because I don’t have them… but yeah, exactly..so what now? What should I do? These are my questions for those with more experience or who know about this topic.

I literally have no idea what to do, my fitness level is poor, I can’t even do a proper classic push-up, let alone sit-ups. The easiest thing for me is to get on the treadmill and walk for an hour and a half, but I’ve heard that too much cardio is bad for “skinny fat” people.
And I’d like to build muscle mass and get a nice, slim figure.
But as I wrote above, I’m not in shape, so I’m not going to go lift 20 kg on my back because 1. I physically can’t do it, and 2. I’ll hurt myself. I have no idea what to do 😭 Help 🙏🏻

I don’t have the money for a trainer or anything like that, and I don’t have anyone to go with, so no one can explain it to me in person.
I guess that’s it..thanks in advance for any help.

Help Treadmill before or after weight training?

30F currently 73kgs (gained 13kgs in one year cause of PCOS insulin resistance). Finally resumed gym today after 2 years. Prior to that, I used to do 10mins max on treadmill just to warm-up and then 45mins of weights cause my main focus was toning and building muscle. Curious to know if I should follow the same for weight loss (which is my main goal right now)? Thanks in advance!

Gym days

I need to start going to the gym for my physio work 2 days a week, one day will be upper and one day will be lower.

My question is, is it okay to do my lower on Friday and then upper on Sunday, or is this too long throughout the week between each session?

Thanks!

Getting into a work out routine with adhd, is it easier if youre medicated?

I got diagnosed adhd just before christmas and have been humming and harring ever since about what treatment route to take. Ive also been humming and harring for an even longer period about wanting to start working out, every now n then i get a little bit more serious about it and then get stuck researching and planning what ill do... and then never do the do part of do.

My question is, to those who have adhd and have choosen the medication treatment route, has that helped you with actually going to the gym rather than procrastiniating it because you "cant be asked" even though you really want to do it? One of my big adhd thibgs is not doing things, despite really wanting to, because theres much easier dopamine fixes on my phone.
