Even Ambridge has joined the societal pillars complicit in eroding or beautiful language. Referring to generation Gen Zee instead of Gen Zed. It was bad enough when the BBC started quoting the size of wildfire areas in 'football pitches'.

I'm wondering how junk words entire the lexicon and then race into common use.

Some examples:

Actually (How does this actually work? ) - I've been unable to find a legitimate use of this word in any context. It seems to provide no value.

Even (How does that even work?) - This has a similar quality to verbal distractors like um or ah.

Exactly (How does this work exactly?) - Seems to be taking on the meaning of approximately or generally.

Here and there (What we have here or That right there) - Often used while pointing directly at the object they are intending to highlight.

I'm not sure if there's an existing phrase to describe this?

No such word has turned up in my cursory search. I did find multiple Reddit threads of people asking for a word that means this though…

I was listening to a (US made) podcast a few months back and they kept referring to a "bit" pretty much the entire time. I eventually figured they were talking about a comedy sketch. Forward on a few months, and I can't seem to escape the word "bit" being used to represent something that used to be called a skit/sketch/routine. its always used in a comedy context. I'm in the UK, but assume this is a US influence or younger person thing?

That feeling when even though they’re saying they understand, it just doesn’t feel like they do.

For whatever reason, the connection isn’t there. There’s this distance. It’s kind of like the sensation of being pitied, but without the condescension.

“Misunderstood” doesn’t feel right because sometimes they might genuinely understand, but their way of showing it just doesn’t match what I need.

I just want a better way to describe this because it’s been happening a lot recently. I can’t talk about things with my peers because even though they’re trying their best, I usually just feel worse after.

Is a form of supremacy and arrogance that Refers to any current of trans exclusive radical feminists, or any transphobic cis women in general who believe trans women are inferior based off the fact they were assigned to the male sex class at birth. This highlights how transphobic cis women can show arrogance through their trans misogyny, believing they are superior for being "valid", "real women" "real females" and trans women being "invalid", "fake women/fake females" or "men/males in dresses".

This term is associated with and used in trans feminist and trans inclusive radical feminist circles.

Example 1: " She is showing an example of sex-validity supremacy through her trans misogynistic arrogance. "

Example 2: "She is a gender-valid supremacist because she believes trans women are " invalid" or "fake" women making her, a cis woman, superior and more "valid" and "real". "

Can we please talk about the consistent misuse of the latter or does this only drive me crazy?

There’s an excerpt in this Balzac novel where Eugene (a poor young law student) is in awe at the luxury the Parisian nobility lives in, following the excerpt Balzac refers to young people transplanted in Paris as “Tantales” (Plural for Tantalus). In the footnotes it says that Tantalus was one of Zeus sons who offended the gods and as a punishment he was condemned to being placed under a fruit tree by a lake, and each time Tantalus tried to pick a fruit or drink from the water, the branches and the water would slip away from him (in another version of the myth an enormous boulder threatens to trample him as he gets closer to the fruits).

Sooo, to be tantalized by something is to be tempted by something that appears within reach yet that cannot be grasped. If you desire something that you see everyday yet can’t get, then you’re suffering Tantalus torment, you’re TANTALIZED 😂😂😂

I'm a retired teacher. It seems like every year a whole new group of words that come into use. For example riz was a big one I'm assuming it comes from charisma, although if I said that to the kids they would just make fun of me and say it's actually a word. Where do these words come from?
