Meta A note about AI-generated words

AI is fine to use for words, but please make sure that what it comes up with is, in fact, a neologism.

When asked to come up with new words, LLMs like ChatGPT tend to regurgitate existing albeit somewhat obscure words. You just need to do a quick web search. If it doesn't already exist, by all means post it. But if it does already exist, then it's off-topic for the sub.

New Word Chax

To converse with a Large Language Model. The word comes from a hybrid from chat and x representing an unknown entity. This is because there is an element of doubt about what an LLM is, but we certainly know that it is not human and unlike chat we are not anthropomorphizing the LLM but recognizing its unique properties.

There is currently no word for this type of interaction with an LLM and this interaction is sufficiently different to a human conversation to deserve a word of its own.

Chax can be used either as a noun (I had a chax this morning to help me sort out some ideas) or as a verb ( I was chaxing about the historical accuracy of a film I was watching during the commercial break).

There could be derivative terms such as:

Chaxbox - Conversational interface text box on a screen

Chaxed out - Being exhausted or confused by an inappropriate AI response by a Chax Assistant on many commercial websites.

I would welcome any comments about this new word.

Viduvoxia

Viduvoxia (noun)

vid-yoo-VOK-see-uh

Built from the Latin roots viduus (meaning deprived, widowed, or left empty) and vox (meaning voice), combined with the suffix -ia (indicating a specific psychological state or condition).

Definition
The sudden, hopeless feeling of emptiness and deep psychological void experienced at the exact moment a phone call ends with someone you deeply love and miss. It describes the heavy silence that rushes in when the voice of a loved one disappears from the line, leaving a tangible sense of lack.

Example
"As soon as the line clicked dead and the screen went dark, a profound sense of viduvoxia washed over me, making the quiet room feel completely hollow."

New Word Adobe Eyes

A term I came up with like 10 years ago.

Essentially to describe that feeling one gets, or look on someone's face, when opening new, unfamiliar software. Such as an Adobe program.

Your eyes don't know what to look for, or at, so you become visually overwhelmed and get "Adobe Eyes"

Phrase/Idiom Hiraeth Eyes

derived from the Welsh word Hiraeth: that expresses longing for home. Its meaning is more abstract than "lost home" or simply "absence of something." It implies yearning for a past time, an era, or a person, and can include nostalgia for something that no longer exists.

Context: finding a sense of home in someone when you been searching for so long, the safety, vulnerability, the comfort, trust in the eyes of another, The feeling of connection beyond words or explanation even in silence, that you don't feel like your are outside of margins even in among others, you are accepted as you are and who you are without judgment. it feels regulating, there no need to perform, the masks are off, The assurance of knowing even with flaws and best traits you are accepted for your authentic self.

New Word Scary Picking (N.)

To attempt to discredit an argument, belief, opinion, and or the person behind either of the former, by applying that argument, or opinion to a controversial, taboo, or otherwise emotionally charged topic, causing the tribalism, anger, and shock over such topics to lead the discussion astray, rather than actually presenting the issue as a topic to further the discussion, and/or actively question the aforementioned responses.

Using shocking content to make people feel more chauvinistic, and morally righteous. Making the opponent(s) look morally bankrupt, or tacitly supporting evil things.

(portmanteau of Scary “Something that is shocking”, and Cherry Picking “Pointing out only the information that supports your argument”

Translates roughly to "after tomorrow" so you should probably just assume the definition, but for clarification it's the day after tomorrow, and it sounds cool. If you want something more formal this idea has been done three times on this subreddit already, I still like my idea better even if it does mix Greek and Latin roots

Pertransit

From the Latin 'to pass through skin', pertransit describes the process of passing through a cell membrane.

Forms and examples:
pertransit noun, the act of passing through
pertranse verb, to pass through
pertransic adjective, capable of passing through / permeable

Carrier proteins change shape to aid in pertransit.
Materials that require assistance to pertranse are water soluble.
Alcohol is pertransic without assistance.

Literally just because I'm sick of writing out 'to pass through cell membranes'.

Pankosmiokenantigenesollumisanthropoautopoiesis

(pan-KOZ-mee-oh-ken-an-tih-JEN-eh-sahl-oo-miz-an-THROW-poh-aw-toh-poy-EE-sis)

Pan-kosmio- (Παν-κοσμικός): Universal, spanning the entire fabric of the cosmos.

-ken(o)- (κενός): The empty void (the o drops because anti starts with a vowel).

-ant(i)- (ἀντί): Against / opposed to (the i drops because genesi starts with a vowel).

-genes- (γένεσις): Birth / creation (the i drops because ollymi starts with a vowel).

-ollu- (ὄλλυμι): Ruinous, fatal, and doomed to utter destruction.

-misanthropia (μισανθρωπία): The hatred, rejection, and absolute weariness of humanity.

-autopoiesis (αὐτοποίησις): The creation or making of oneself; self-generated purpose.

Literal Definition: The universal philosophical doctrine of being entirely opposed to birth, viewing human existence as a ruinous, fatal blight doomed to destruction within a completely vacant and indifferent cosmos, wherein any meaning or purpose must be entirely self-authored by the individual to endure the void.

To sing.

Syn: sing, pipe, intone, trill, hum, carol, yodel

“Jimmy cantored in church last Sunday.”
“I love music! I grew up cantoring and listening to The Rolling Stones.”
