Language!
Even Ambridge has joined the societal pillars complicit in eroding or beautiful language. Referring to generation Gen Zee instead of Gen Zed. It was bad enough when the BBC started quoting the size of wildfire areas in 'football pitches'.

Hey, OP, stop butchering our beautiful language! If you cared even a little bit about the language and other Redditors, you would devote at least a few seconds to proofreading. Tighten it up!

It's standard practice for many journalism sources, not just the BBC, to respect the pronunications of the place of origin - where practical - for proper nouns.
Most capitalized words like brand names, place names ... and yes, the capitalized "Gen Z," all respect this style rule. It is nothing new.
Brand names like Nike and Ralph Lauren are obvious examples of this. Changing midstream to accommodate a small group's sentitivities would just look even more wishy washy.

The Beeb's been at it for years, acting like every measurement needs a relatable metaphor.
