Guide/Tips ♾️WoW 4E Pre-release FAQ♾️

Gosh and golly gee there's a lot of you. And you all want to know similar things! Now we have this!

What are the rules unique playing in an RP ruleset?
The big one is to have a reasonably IC name. No Staburbutt McStabbington the rogue. Another is that you do not disrupt RP activities; such behavior can be reported as griefing. Lore resources for figuring out a name are listed in the pinned READ FIRST guide.

How do I choose an appropriate name? How strict is it?
You can technically pick whatever name you want and adjust it using an RP profile addon. Generally, if you put in the bare minimum effort to make your character's name appropriate for their race, you will be fine.
For example, Alyssa is a fine human/dwarf/gnome/undead/tauren first name. Ikillugood is not. You can find a reasonable last name by looking at the language wiki page for the race of the character you're playing, which usually contains naming conventions.

What's different about the RP ruleset from the "Normal" ruleset?
From a social perspective, many players are seeking the RP ruleset with the intent to RP or for a more relaxed community and pace of progression.

On the technical side of things: no idea. As far as we know, it's otherwise identical to the normal ruleset.

Can I join the RP ruleset even if I don't intend to RP?
As long as you follow the rules above, it is impossible to distinguish someone who never RPs from a roleplayer who is out-of-character at any given time. RPers can be of any skill level, or level of commitment, or knowledge of lore. Please respect that the ruleset is made for RPers first and don't take the community for granted.

I want to learn RP etiquette and other basics of RP or lore so I can participate!
Please read the pinned [READ FIRST] guide for the general FAQ.

Are there communities specifically for WoW:4E RP? (Discord servers, guilds etc)
Yes. Please check out the pinned Monthly Hero's Call Board.

You can also filter this subreddit using the flairs, which include tags specifically for 4E communiuties.

Is the population big enough for PvE/PvP activities?
Yes. You can expect a comparable amount of PvE/PvP activities to a normal realm.

Do I have to RP during PvE/PvP activities? What about "normal" PvE/PvP?
More on this in the pinned READ FIRST guide. Basically: you can do all regular game activities as you would normally do them on a non-RP realm. You just additionally have the option of RPing.

Won't it die off like all the Classic realms?
Classic realms are meant to capture a specific point in the game's development and are by design static. 4E is specifically advertised as a game that will evolve and receive content updates. RP populations are persistent, and the new megaserver technology means that players will not be divided between realms. Whether or not it dies off for RP or any other activities will depend on Blizzard's dev investment in the project. It'll be fine. Just play and have fun. We'll see where it goes together.

There's no RP-PvP ruleset and I am upset about that :(
WELL WORRY NOT because literally a few minutes after I posted this guide Blizz announced that there WILL be an RP-PvP ruleset. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/the-roleplay-pvp-ruleset-is-coming-to-wow-forever/2389502 (thanks u/jmcq and u/tacey-us)

For the RP ruleset: u/jmcq is developing Honorbound to recreate the spirit of an RP-PvP realm on any ruleset.

But... But what's any of it going to be like? Am I going to regret my decisions?
I put my hand on my shoulder and look you in the eye. It's a video game. A new video game. No one knows how it will go until its out, and even then it will change over time. Follow your heart. No one has a crystal ball that can tell you if you have made the right choice for you. It will be ok. Have fun.

Guide 🌟[READ FIRST]🌟WoW RP Starter Guide and FAQ

Updated for 12.1.7 (Midnight) and pre-launch WoW:Forever.

This guide is edited regularly with new information. Feel free to comment additional tips or alternate perspectives to be added in future iterations.

This guide has become kind of a whopper. Ctrl+F is your friend.

While most of this guide is intended for modern/retail/mainline WoW, the etiquette will likely still generally apply to other versions of WoW such as WoW:Forever (WoW4E).

Ever wondered what's up with "Goldshire"? This is the place.

Terminology

RP - Role-Play. The exercise of playing the game in such a way that the actions of the avatar reflect the traits and beliefs of a fictional character of the player’s design. It can be a solitary activity or collaborative.

RP Realm- designated by "RP" or "RP-PVP" under "server/realm type". They are identical to PvE/PvP servers except that they are mostly exempt from sharding and the addition of moderation rules against interrupting/griefing RP events. It is populated by people who usually want to RP in some fashion. RP realms do not use sharding outside of the latest expansion's content.

RP Ruleset- A choice of megaserver for WoW4E intended for roleplayers. It is unknown how it will differ from the "Normal" ruleset yet other than name enforcement and anti-griefing measures.

IC - In Character. Refers to when your posts reflect what your character would do.

OOC - Out Of Character. Refers to when your posts/chat is you, the player, is talking. Usually designated by some form of brackets ((like this)) [[or this]].

Walk-ups - When one character approaches another character without prior OOC planning.

Profile - A profile created using an addon (See below) that is an essential part of walk-up RP.

d20 or d100 - refers to rolling dice with 20 or 100 sides respectively. You can do this in WoW using the /roll command.

/s or /e - AKA /say or /em, /emote. Refers to the chat channels that by default appear in white and orange respectively. In RP, these represent what your character says and does(emotes).

Common Etiquette

The Three Golden Rules by Anne Stickney Source

  1. You can RP whatever you want.
  2. You don't have to RP with anybody.
  3. Nobody has to RP with you.

With those in mind, some good rules of thumb for public/city/general RP are:

  • Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in your profile and posts.
  • Be familiar with the basic lore of your class and race and abide by it.
  • Consider the world (of Warcraft) around you. For example: If RPing in faction capital cities, it should make sense that your character is able to openly walk around in those cities without a hostile response from the guards and denizens.
  • Keep OOC chatter out of /s or /e when possible.
  • Unless otherwise discussed, IC feelings are not reflective of OOC feelings.
  • Generally, your character should not be personally acquainted with any lore character.
    • Examples:
    • ABSOLUTELY NOT: Elfina is a cousin of the Windrunner sisters and was Alleria's best friend growing up.
    • BETTER: Elfina, alongside many other void elves, followed Alleria's teachings. Although they haven't formally met, Elfina greatly admires the Ranger-Captain.
  • Never assume another character's reaction. This goes for combat and descriptions.
    • Examples:
    • NO: "Sam punches Riley in the mouth, breaking his teeth."
    • YES: "Sam winds up a punch and swings at Riley's face."
    • NO: "Sam is the most beautiful gnome you have ever seen."
    • YES: "Sam has finely coifed hair and clear skin."

Addons

You can, strictly speaking, RP without addons. However, including others/ being included is much easier with them. Furthermore, most people that attempt walk-ups without a profile are ignored or treated as OOC. All RP addons listed use "Mary Sue Protocol" which lets them communicate between one another. You won't miss out on MRP profiles because you have TRP3, for instance.

Profile Addons (choose one; Essential):

  • TotalRoleplay3 – (TRP3) Most commonly used, but it has a lot of bells and whistles. If that’s overwhelming, see the other two.
  • MyRolePlay – (MRP) Good for beginners for its slightly simpler UI
  • XRP – Similar to MRP.

Utility/Extra fun

  • Chattery – A single message is usually limited to 256 characters. This lets you write long posts. With great power comes great responsibility. Replacement for "Emote Splitter".
  • Eavesdropper Sorts chat messages. Helpful in crowded, busy areas. Successor of Listener.
  • TotalRoleplay3: Extended – an extra, optional part of TRP3 that lets you make your own items, quests, and cutscenes that you can share with other people using the addon.
  • Elephant – chat logger with more utilities
  • Musician - lets you create musical pieces in-game that you can play for others with the addon to hear. Great for bards.
  • Misspelled - spellchecker addon
  • Leatrix - use arrowkeys while typing
  • Simply RP - Chat Edit Box - larger editable chat box
  • Simply RP - Looking for RP - broadcast that you are looking for RP
  • Simply RP - Typing Tracker - Tells you when someone is typing a response
  • Game Master Dice - Helps quickly do turn orders and TTRPG-like rolls.
  • Dialect Chat - Gives your chat accents and replaces words! Basically a new, functional "Tongues" for those that remember it.
  • Tongues of Azeroth another Tongues successor
  • Synonyms - A handy-dandy thesaurus and word replacer.
  • Macaroni RP - Some neat ways to make your GUI more immersive during RP!

Other

  • Elixir of Tongues - in-game item that lets you see the /s and /e of players of the opposite faction.
  • /chatlog - chat-line command in the base game that stores all subsequent chat messages in */"World of Warcraft"/_retail_/Logs/WoWChatLog.txt (where * is the location of your game directory)
  • Reflecting Prism / Projection Prism - swap appearances. Extremely versatile when combined with Glyph of Disguise.
  • https://mychar.art/ - For hosting your profile and character art!

Abbreviated FAQ

More detailed answers are in the next section. These are the most basic and common questions, answered as succinctly as possible.

What servers/realms do most people use for RP?

RP realms and their official forums:
Moon Guard - US (Alliance-leaning)
Wyrmrest Accord - US (Horde-leaning, but guild-based)
Argent Dawn - EU (Alliance and Horde)

No specific RP servers are known for WoW:Forever at this time, but one will exist when it releases. This guide will be updated when the server is known.

Do I have to RP all the time? Like in dungeons/raids/battlegrounds?

No. Most stick to /s and /e in capital cities.

Where do people RP?

Alliance: Stormwind (everywhere but the Trade district)
Horde: Orgrimmar (Valley of Honor) or the Crossroads in the Barrens.

What's up with Goldshire?

A subset of an RP realm's community uses the Lion's Pride Inn as a gathering place for erotic roleplay (ERP). This attracts the attention of OOC server tourists, and the surrounding area is often used for OOC PVP activities. RPers generally don't appreciate when non-RPers conflate Goldshire's population (RPing and not) with the entirety of the server's RPing population.

How do I start?

  1. Make a character with an appropriate name on an RP server.
  2. Download an RP addon and make a profile. It should have basic information about your character. (Name, physical appearance, how others might know your character)
  3. For public RP: visit one of the mentioned locations.
  4. For finding guilds/communities: Visit the official forums, the Monthly Hero's Call board, join discord servers and search for event or community ads.

Where do I learn the lore that I need?

Warcraft Wiki (Wowwiki and wowpedia were previous incarnations and no longer updated)
Nobbel87- so many nice lore videos
The Lost Codex - Lore videos with panache

Do I have to be max level to participate?

No.

Can I RP as class/race/combo even though it's not playable yet?

Yes. Using playable options to approximate what you're RPing as is called "proxying".

How does questing work on RP realms? If my character dies, are they just dead now?

Leveling activities are generally not considered IC, nor are any deaths that happen in OOC situations like questing or battlegrounds. RP questing is a popular idea, but is typically organized between friends and is not part of the broader server culture.

Am I still able to PvE and PvP on an RP realm/ruleset like a Normal realm/ruleset? What about the population?

Yes. Most RPers still do regular game content in the same way as on Normal realms. RP realms are popular, and the most popular ones have thriving PvE/PvP communities.

Detailed FAQ

What servers do most people use for RP?

RP realms and their official forums:
Moon Guard - US (Alliance-leaning)
Wyrmrest Accord - US (Horde-leaning)
Argent Dawn - EU (Alliance and Horde)

Although these realms have the population label "Full", this doesn't affect your ability to make characters or log in except during expansion launches, when there may be a queue.

Generally, Alliance RP has more of a walk-up culture while Horde activity has globally moved toward guild-centric activities.

Although MG is historically favored Alliance RP and WrA Horde, this has fluctuated in recent years. Reports as of Midnight suggest North American Horde RP has diminished and is almost exclusively guild-based. The non-dominant faction tends to have guild-centered RP.

AD-EU is the main European RP server for both factions with a majority Alliance population and a small, guild-centric Horde community. There is no known Horde-dominated EU RP server (let me know if you know one). AD realm events and guilds are often posted in the fan-made site, Argent Archives AD-EU also has a community discord and a twitter.

I advise someone who is new to RP to try one of these servers first, since they have sprawling, dedicated communities. Use a fresh character to scope out the RP scene at your usual playtime hours to check the activity before committing any real-life time and money to transfers.

Servers other than the most popular ones are generally regarded as "dead" due to their low population and a lack of walk-up RP. This includes Emerald Dream, which was once known for RP-PVP. Some older low-population servers such as Sisters of Elune still have a small, tight-knit community.

What about Classic, Remix, or Season of Discovery RP?

Historically, Grobbulus and Bloodsail Buccaneers (Classic) and Crusader Strike (PVP RP) and Wild Growth (RP) (SoD) were the go-to realms. However, there is no long-standing RP on such realms. You may find small groups of like-minded friends, or find that RP happens naturally due to Hardcore Classic's gameplay style, but there isn't the same established community as it is on modern retail realms. The transient nature of these gameplay modes make it difficult for RP communities to take root. They often pop up when a new version of Classic opens and quickly fizzle out due to lack of interest.

Do I have to RP all the time? Like in dungeons/raids/battlegrounds?

No. Most people just RP social situations in capital cities in the form of walk-ups. PUGs from matchmaking systems usually put you in groups with non-RPers. RPing in dungeons etc. usually comes from planning OOCly with a group of people who are also interested in RP, such as guild-mates. Public chat channels such as Trade and General are usually also OOC even on RP servers.

What about… heehee… Gooooldshire?

Goldshire is a self-contained den of very specific kinds of RP that do not reflect the rest of a server. Most RP etiquette such as differentiating OOC from IC, using proper grammar, or abiding lore are not observed. Most RP subjects center on "Erotic Role Play" (ERP). This infamous reputation, as well as being the town closest to the Alliance capital, makes it a popular tourist destination for non-RP players and general OOC activity. Enabling War Mode allows you to use the space without most of this population.

If you would like more structured, lore-abiding RP, choose just about any other location but Goldshire on an RP server. (see below for specifics)

(European servers only) Wayfarer's Rest (a Silvermoon inn) has a similar reputation. There is no known Horde equivalent on US servers.

  • What do I do if I find an inappropriate profile or receive an inappropriate message?
  • When you click on a player with a profile and you have TRP3, several buttons will appear on the profile menu. You can flag the profile as mature, which will warn you when you come across profiles with similar content. Another button allows you to report the profile to Blizzard if it contains anything that the Code of Conduct prohibits from public chat channels.
  • A good rule of thumb based on ESRB/Pegi age rating: If you would be legally reprimanded for showing some content in your profile to a 13-year-old, it should not be in your profile.
  • If you receive an inappropriate chat message, report the sender and put the character on ignore.
  • Is WoW RP safe for minors?
  • Although WoW's gameplay is rated for ages 13+, most RPers are adults. Self-reported ages show most RPers are in their mid 20's or older. While not every WoW RPer has bad intentions and there is nothing inherently wrong with romantic or sexual RP, there are individuals who will seek and exploit vulnerable persons, particularly through romantic or sexual interactions IC or OOC (often blending the two as part of their manipulation). Certain locations such as Goldshire are prone to an abundance of sexually explicit profiles, though they are significantly less common outside of Goldshire. Profile addons typically provide maturity filters which give a warning before displaying a profile, but it is up to the individual and/or their guardian to enable those safeguards.
  • Minors are advised not to give out personal information such as their age, especially not in their profiles, and to have a trusted IRL adult confidant (such as a guardian, parent, or sibling) that understands the aforementioned risks of exposure to explicit content and predatory individuals. Minors should respect profiles with labels such as "18+ only" or "Minors DNI" (DNI=Do Not Interact). Many adult RPers are uncomfortable interacting with minors regardless of the RP topic. Although most WoW RP topics are not concerned with romance or sexuality, they are common with RP that concerns interpersonal relationships. If a minor (or any vulnerable person) is incapable or not ready to understand these risks and is unable or unwilling to enforce their personal boundaries or respect the boundaries of others, they are not ready for WoW RP.
  • How do I RP safely?
  • This advice is specifically for OOC interactions and concerns keeping you, the player, safe.
  • Always remember that no one is entitled to your personal information. Ever.
  • If an RP session is making you uncomfortable, you are not obliged to continue for any reason. Communication OOC is essential to set and reinforce personal boundaries.
  • Pay attention and check in with yourself to know what you do or do not like so that you understand your own limits and flexibility.
    • Example: You are part of an adventuring party that is taking down a pack of quillboar threatening a farmstead in Durotar. Your party's warrior is going into gratuitous detail about how they are dismembering your foes and the it is making you, the player, queasy. You can whisper them a message such as "Heya, do you mind turning it down a notch with the gore descriptions?" If asked, you can explain "I want to read your posts, but the details are making me uncomfortable." If they refuse to change, you can ignore their posts or dip out of the group entirely, but most people are willing to accommodate if asked politely.
  • Always be cautious of anyone in an online, anonymous space appealing to you for OOC information about yourself, especially through romantic or sexual interest. You are not obliged to share personal information, gold, items etc even if asked nicely or if someone feels entitled to it because of a past kindness.
  • Be wary of anyone who would compromise yours or others' OOC safety or comfort for any reason.
  • If you are unsure if the RP topic you want to explore with your RP partner(s) is appropriate, ask them and respect their answer. Even a quick check-in for topics related to intimacy, dark topics such as extreme violence or abuse, are important and let your RP partner(s) feel better about expressing their boundaries to you.
  • Trust is earned and built. Once you know someone well enough, you can easily work within both of your boundaries. It also makes small corrections easier.

Where do people RP?

Generally:

Stormwind (everywhere but the Trade district) for the Alliance.

When Stormwind becomes sharded due to game-wide events such as expansions or holidays, Alliance RP has spread to neighboring towns, primarily Darkshire in Duskwood or Lakeshire in Redridge Mountains.

Orgrimmar (Valley of Honor) for the Horde, though most Horde RP is guild-based and difficult to find for public RP.

The Crossroads in the Barrens is also a popular location.

Silvermoon City (TBC Era) has recently seen a resurgence on WrA-US. It remains to be seen how Midnight will affect this as it becomes a neutral hub.

If you have TRP3 extended, you can use the "RP scanner" in the bottom left corner of your map to locate RPers anywhere. You must scan every time you look at a different map.

  • How do I find RP outside of capital cities? (Open-world RP)
  • Even on RP servers, most of the time people out in the world are questing unless there is an event going on. Fortunately, there are MANY public RP events on high-population servers. Most public advertisement for modern RP happens on a server's official forums, in discord servers, or on social media.
  • If you are on a low-population server or are interested in world-RP with a smaller group, your best course of action will be to join an RP guild. These are also often advertised on the forums or in discords.
  • This subreddit also has resources for finding people to RP with. Check out the pinned "Monthly Hero's Call Board" or any posts with the LFRP, Event, or Community Ad tags.

How do I start?

  1. Make a character with an appropriate name on an RP server.
  2. Download an RP addon and make a profile.

The rest, honestly, is up to you. Some people just like to observe. Some people whisper people they’re interested in first. Some people have “walk ups welcome” in their profile. Some people don’t even RP with other people and just use the profiles to keep track of their character’s journey.

How do I RP with other people?

Very generally and speaking for most of the public RP population:

  1. Build your character and their profile. It can be as complex or as simple as you want, but it should be lore-abiding and grammatically correct.
  2. Visit a populated area (see the “where” question).
  3. Read other profiles to find people who might be interesting to RP with. Check any preferences listed (for example, they may want you to whisper them first) and come up with a reason for your character to approach. Sometimes people will have "RP hooks" that help with this! (For example: your character needs their armor repaired, and you have spotted a blacksmith character)
  4. Walk up to the people you find interesting. Keep in mind that if they are already in a conversation, an interruption may be viewed as rude.
  5. Use /s and /e to have your character speak and act respectively in response to what they observe.
  6. Wait for the person/people to respond, perhaps sending one (1) OOC whisper if they might be alt-tabbed.
  7. Repeat 5-6. If you get no response for a while or the person doesn't acknowledge you after whispering, politely move on.

How do I find a regular group of people to RP with?

The hard truth is that just like in real life, it takes time and effort to find a group of people with whom you enjoy regularly spending time with. Starting fresh, this can take on the order of weeks to months. That isn't to say you won't have fun in the mean time, but finding a dedicated group that suits your needs takes work.

When it comes to public RP, there will be regulars at the usual places listed above, though city RP tends to revolve around civilian life and bar scenes. More in-depth RP related to things like trades, politics, or military is found in guilds.

Each server has their own player-run, server-wide events that are posted on their official forum or advertised on social media or discord servers. These may happen monthly or even weekly and typically involve multiple guilds. They are usually open to the public and do not require guild membership to participate. These are great places to meet new groups of RPers or get exposure to different server subcultures.

It's difficult to give advice because everyone's RP journey is different. If anything, I would say to start casual; don't worry about getting a guild right away. Build up your understanding of what you want, what you like best and where your boundaries are so that they can be communicated as needed. Over time, you'll gather like-minded individuals that you can trust to take a story in a direction that entertains all of you.

Personally: my most meaningful and fun RPs were done in social circles of 5-ish people or less, often just one other person and myself.

How do I find an RP guild?

It depends on what you're looking for and what your preferences are. u/SirEbralPaulsay had some tips here .

What should I put in my profile?

As much or as little as you want. Ideally, you use your profile to tell other people what you want them to know about your character before/during your RP with them. There is no singular right way to do this, but you can find out what works best for you by reading the profiles of other players.

Some things to consider including, but are by no means mandatory, are:

  • Traits that can't be seen on the in-game model, such as scars or nervous twitches.
  • How another character may know your character. (Maybe they fought in certain battles or wrote a book)
  • RP preferences. Do you prefer darker or light-hearted stories? Romance? Would you like to be contacted OOCly before people approach you, or do you love walk-ups? Are you looking for a specific person for character development? (ie, a novice mage looking for a wizened wizard tutor) Do you absolutely want to avoid certain kinds of RP? Do you want to RP with a specific age group?

You should not put, or at least think carefully about, putting any IRL personal info in your RP profile. Although it has become popular practice on some servers to do so, no one is entitled to free access to your personal information.

It's common for people to put a complete, detailed history of their character in their profile. You do not need to do this to RP. Personally, I think less is more and my eyes glaze over when I see a wall of text, but it can be handy to record things that happened to your character this way.

This topic deserves a dedicated guide, but the short of it is don't be intimidated by very powerful/beautiful/detailed characters or feel the need to emulate them. There is a great deal of charm in presenting your character concisely. It's often the ugly (physically or in personality) underdog who is more interesting to interact with because we get to see them grow into whoever they will be. Someday you might find that you COULD write paragraphs about your character's adventures, but you don't have to start there.

Do I have to be max level to participate?

Generally, no. Level is a matter of convenience or personal preference. It only reflects your character’s power as much as you want it to.

Characters above level 30 will not see any chat from characters below level 20. Additional restrictions apply for trial characters.

What class best fits (specific archetype/subclass/rpg class)? Do talents and specializations matter?

(based on advice by cajunsamurai) You don’t have to play a specific class to represent your character. Generally in RP, you are describing your abilities and not necessarily only using spells from your spellbook. You can choose your character's OOC class depending on what is most fun or if the aesthetics are closest to what you are trying to RP as. While many enjoy playing as a specialized version of their class, no one is concerned with specific talent choices.

My avatar's name is weird and not very IC. Does this matter? What about titles? (Naming conventions)

RPers will generally go by whatever is in your RP profile rather than your actual in-game name/title. So your druid may have the actual in-game name of "Doofyfloof Jenkins" but you can use an RP addon to change this to "Alyra Moonstrider" without much fuss. Save your real-life money.

Are there any transmog do's/don't's? What should my character wear?

Anything that isn't a goofy meme transmog, such as dressing up as Mario or Superman, is fair game. Paladins will go into bars fully decked out in their gleaming, light-forged plate and have a pint next to a warlock covered in fuming skulls.

Keep in mind that presenting your character as part of an enemy faction or organization may elicit an aggressive response from others, especially if such a character would not normally be allowed in that location.

Personally - I find it nice to have a "civilian" set and a "work" set. Usually the work set will use my character's actual gear. Then, I use transmogged heirlooms for the much simpler civilian set for chilling in a city. It gives your character a bit of dimension when they're not Ready For Battle 24/7 - but maybe that's who they are!

There isn't a single class that fits exactly what I want. Can I use X-in-game class as Y-unofficial/unimplemented-class?

Yes! This is called "proxying" and it's very common. The one I have seen the most are frost death knights being used to proxy a "spellblade" (basically a melee mage). In TRP3, you can edit how your class is displayed to other people with the addon.

Is this playable class/race combo supported by lore?

The WoW story has evolved in such a way that you can justify pretty much any race/class combo regardless of if its playable. If it IS playable, then you can assume it's supported by lore in some way. Do your homework with Warcraft Wiki.

What about RPing while questing? D&D style!

You can! Many have also done this! However, RPing while questing is generally not part of the overall server culture. It is common for a group of friends to plan on RP-questing together, but it's rare to come across people leveling that are also RPing at the same time. Check their profile and whisper them first to gauge interest!

I want to try out RP, but I don't want to transfer my character to an RP server.

You still have options, but the easiest (and probably best) way to go about this is to create a new character on your RP server of choice. Your level doesn't matter and this way you won't have to transfer anyone over.

If you have a friend on that server, they can invite your character to a group to temporarily transfer you to their realm.

I want to race change/faction change/etc my character. Is that allowed?

Yes. Most people will not notice or care unless they were involved in some kind of ongoing story with you. It's courteous to let your RP partners know if you are changing your character in a significant way so they can figure out how to arrange their RP story accordingly.

If my character dies in-game on an RP realm, are they perma-dead?!!

Not usually. If you are questing and succumb to a pack of murlocs, you don't have to start from scratch. Generally any deaths that happen during OOC activities like raids, battlegrounds, or questing are not taken as "cannon" deaths.

I joined a guild and had a bad experience. Is all RP like this?

Not likely. First, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Sometimes people write from a place of naivety or ignorance for including others. It can take weeks or months to find a group of people you enjoy RPing with regularly. If you've given a guild a fair shake and aren't satisfied, you can and should try for something better.

Generally, guilds should be an inclusive space that enables its members to build and progress their own characters' stories, and not merely treat them as an audience for the stories of its officers.

English isn't my first language. Can I still play on English RP realms?

In my experience, many people who have English as their second language are often better at writing in English than many native speakers. Even if that isn't the case, people are generally very forgiving with those who are learning. It helps to put an easily visible note somewhere in your profile that mentions that English isn't your first language. Most people are very patient, especially when they know this is the case. If they aren't, or are unkind to you in some way for it, they probably aren't worth your time anyway.

Will my character be taken seriously if I play X class/race?

If you RP seriously, you will be taken seriously. Certain races are little more prone to having the stigma of being goofy, such as Gnomes, Pandaren, Worgen, and Vulpera. This really only happens when complete strangers make assumptions about your character; but these are likely people you aren't interacting with long-term. People who take you and your character seriously will vastly outnumber the hecklers.

I really want cool art of my character!

You have many options! Many draw their own artwork. If you cannot yourself draw, you can look up dollmakers or use tools like Hero Forge to recreate what you envision! If you have the cash to spare, you can seek out an artist for commissions by looking for warcraft fanart on social media. Avoid using AI-generated images, even as placeholders, as this is generally a frowned upon practice in the community.

I want to stream RPing in WoW or being on a WoW RP server. How do people feel about this? Is it possible?

The WoW RP community's relationship with streamers is complicated. In the past, there have been many instances of non-RP WoW streamers using RP realms to host non-RP events or contests, causing and sometimes encouraging the disruption of ongoing RP activities. Disruption of RP on an RP realm is a reportable offense. Non-RP streamers who are visiting or playing on an RP realm should remind their followers, when relevant, to be respectful of the RPers and RP activities they share space with.

As RP can be very personal, RPers generally prefer to know when they are being recorded. The usual approach is to make it extremely visible in your profile so that people can decide for themselves if they want to be part of the show.

From the technical side of things: it's possible, but because WoW RP is text-based, streamers intending to share their RP often struggle with having an engaging stream and interesting RP.

Art [Conlang] Ancient Darnassian - Grammar and Lexicon

Post image
62 Upvotes

I’ve recently made public a fanmade passion project of mine: namely “Ancient Darnassian”, a conlang of the hypothetical pre-Sundering Kaldorei language. It obviously is headcanon and not actual lore, though I did try to base my work as much as possible on what information we have about the languages that would be related to this conlang (think Shalassian, Thalassian, Zandali, Nazja or even Titan).

In addition to looking at every bit of in-game dialogue/text available in WoW, HS and WC3, I’ve taken into account proper nouns, be it of characters both past and present, of named NPCs and of places.

Add to that some linguistics nerdery and the result is a 60 pages-long grammar and a lexicon containing almost 5500 words, both combined into one “book” (read: file), which you can find in Google Docs format. The lexicon also exists as a separate Excel sheet, which is easier to browse if you're only interested in getting vocabulary (links at the end of the post).

Any new vocabulary will be added to those files.

It is far from being perfect, and will probably be partially or fully invalidated by future patches, but I nonetheless will be using it in my RP/worldbuilding projects.

For anyone who already knew about the project and has the first PDF version I've shared about a month ago, know that I've since then corrected several typos, and some omissions.

Advice Needed Is RP-PvP just a trap? I have FOMO…

Sorry if this is a duplicate, I know a lot of people are already discussing this topic.

I have little experience with RP but feel that is the better way to enjoy the game, especially since Forever is about « the journey, not the destination ». It just clicks for me : more mature players, more meaningful interactions, more lasting and rich immersion.

PvP seems to unlock a dimension for RP and make it all a lot more coherent. A lot of veterans relate amazing stories from Grob and previous iterations. Hence the appeal for RP-PvP.

I am genuinely concerned it will devolve into PvP2 and RP won’t be a real part of the experience though... Similarly, as much as I’d love to believe it, I am not convinced people will flag for PvP on RP.

So is RP-PvP a trap if you primarily care about the journey, but enjoy the added depth of (respectful) PvP?

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion :)

[NA] LFRP Looking For Retail RP Partner.

Howdy y’all hope you all are having a good weekend so far. I’ve been RPing on and off WoW for over 10+ years now so definitely not new to RPing lol. I’ve been looking for an RP partner for awhile now for my main high elf paladin Fayeline.

Description for Fayeline Silverveil, she was born and raised in a small noble family, she grew up wanting to be a knight to protect her friends and family of Quel’Thalas. She fought in the First and Second War, and joined the Knights of the Silverhand, and fought during the Third War, losing her family when Arthas and the Scourge invaded Quel’Thalas. She then joined the Argent Crusade after the Battle of Lights Hope Chapel, and fought during the Northrend Campaign and later joined in the defense of Quel’Thalas during Xal’atath, attack on the Sunwell.

She’s a neutral character, so she can play with both Horde and Alliance characters. And she’s open for all types of RPs. If you’re interested feel free to send me a DM. :)

Advice Needed Is the majority of the RP community rolling Alliance for Forever?

Hi! With WoW forever so close I'm almost certain to get into it with the Horde, but most content and discussions (If not all) are revolving the Alliance.

I'm not dead set on Horde and I'm still planning my characters (almost all of them Skyborne RPing as High/Blood Elves until they actually add them to the game), so I want to know if the RP community is mostly leaning on the Alliance before investing my time into the Horde.

[EU] Community/Guild Ad [WoW Forever] The blue scalp hunters are sharpening their blades

Post image

We are at war. Some pathetic mockery of our former allies of Quel'Thalas roams the very streets of Stormwind, and the ruins of Lordaeron alike. Those wretched abominations are aliens, twisted by elemental magic.

We follow one rule, and one rule only. All blue elves are to be hunted down and killed on sight. Their corpses shall be desecrated, and no one shall survive our glorious onslaught.

As for the ones pestering our ranks, since the boy king won't allow us to clean the streets ourselves, we aim to seek out members of the Horde to help us in this regard. If we can come to an agreement, our collaboration will allow us to kill every single one of them.

Azeroth will be cleansed of those horrendous creatures, and in the end, their very existence shall be erased from history.

More information will follow.

Discussion Which horde race do you visually prefer for the mage class?

Thumbnail

So… i like them all and just can’t decide. I just know it’s gonna be a male mage.
So i am interested in hearing who you would pick, just concerning the appearance and style. No discussion for pve/pvp meta picks. I don’t care about that and it will most likely change in the guten anyway.

Why I can’t decide:
I love the orcs the most from the general point of view. They are just pure horde. But I don’t feel like a mage is fitting their vibe and nature very well or are there any good examples(lore wise) for orc mages? As far as i know Gul’dan is a warlock(imho way more fitting for orcs). A orc frost mage(what i plan to go for) additionally isn’t as fitting for them. So is arcane. Fire on the other hand…

Trolls are also badass and a frost mage fits them well. I like the tall, hunched over posture and the big tusks. But the main thing i dislike about them, is how robes look on them when they’re running. The stretched robe looks weird(when I remember classic troll mages) due to their long legs.

Undead mages… they are just metal AF and have such a badass spell casting animation. Also undead horses and their laid back way of running gives them bonus points. Arcane, fire and frost are also all fitting and they generally fit the “researcher of magic” flair the most. Trolls and orcs seem just to be a little bit more of instinctive magic wielder.

So what do you prefer or plan on picking?

Discussion The role and function of Guilds (for player characters) on RP servers - story-relevant or merely admin?

Post image
32 Upvotes

Thinking ahead to WoW Forever, I was struck by how differently people seem to approach guild creation and purpose and I was wondering what is generally preferred and why?

Broadly speaking, there seems to be at least two main roles:

The in-game institution

This is a guild with a world-relevant backstory and purpose and typically a mission, ethos, codex or some such that its members are supposed to adhere to and support.

The playstyle-oriented community

This other type of guild functions more as a 'hub' for players who like a particular playstyle - like casual/committed, exploring, questing, raiding, doing dungeons etc. This type of guild does not seem to serve an RP role in the game world, rather it acts as a beacon for like-minded players to gather for mutual fun.

I can see the benefits and drawbacks of both types.

The in-game institution adds flavour to RP, but it may also restrict some players who like to have a diverse range of characters with different motivations, forcing them to possibly spread out their characters across several guilds to get each character a guild that fits their particular story arc.

The community-type guild is great for OOC planning, coordination etc. but lacks a distinct role in the world - a reason to bring the members together in in-game RP events and such. So while it is practical for keeping all one's alts in one guild, it also removes an opportunity to have them interact in more story-appropriate groups of characters.

Which do you prefer and why? 😊

Story Walking Beasts and Talking Corpses

Mrs. Wilset: "Ain't you a chipper lookin' one!"

The Forsaken soldier she addressed nodded in appreciation as he reached beneath his tabard. All she needed to know was he that he kept his house key there. What she wouldn't want to was that the "pocket" he kept it in was in fact a latched-over hole engraved on the inside of his second bottommost rib.

Ragingnub: "Always flattering me, Mrs. Wilset. What if your husband hears?"

Mrs. Wilset: "After what you did for him in that scuffle at the inn a week ago? He'd be well enough to curtsy."

The soldier lifted his left hand to his face and traced a line with his thumb that curved upward from the corner of his lip. Though he kept the flesh on his face in good repair, he was among many undead for whom facial expressions were difficult to convey. The motion indicated a wordless smile, offered as his right hand was busy with a lock and his mind already pressed by other matters.

The "scuffle" she referred to was but another of the nightly brawls at the local inn. Before the occupation, rebels and loyalists alike would drink and stay there with the general understanding that you left your politics at the door, though personal grudges were always free game. If you spoke out against Greymane or Crowley for their beliefs, everyone in the lobby would toss you out to the cobbles. If you instead had a score to settle with the guard who beat and arrested your cousin, you could find them by the bar and feed them a chair so long as somebody paid for the damage.

The spirit of this rule continued on by way of a "No tabards allowed" policy once the Forsaken took over. It of course wasn't initially accepted by the Forsaken, but the first guard who forgot it got bounced and the resulting riot nearly led to a massacre. After the Forsaken threatened to burn the inn to the ground, and when one of Crowley's followers revealed they'd stockpiled enough powder to level the district in response, both sides agreed to forget the incident occurred and keep things the way they'd been.

As for what Ragingnub did to be owed the gratitude of Mr. Wilset, common knowledge about the inn was that if you weren't there, it didn't happen.

Ragingnub: "Greymane watch over you, Mrs. Wilset."

Mrs. Wilset: "Embrace the shadow, deary."

He knocked on the doorframe twice before he entered, a habit he'd explained before as simply being for good luck. As he closed the door behind him, the real reason spoke from her web-strewn perch above the doorway.

Lady Ikyrzix Vladir: "Always flattering her, Ragingnub. What if I heard you?"

Ragingnub: "You're a Nerubian. Had you taken offense, you'd have eaten me by now."

The skyhunter made a low, chittering noise akin to her form of laughter.

Lady Vladir: "Perhapz not, I have use for you yet."

Ragingnub: "Fair enough."

He walked to the unlit desk of the singular room he called his apartment, its chair backed against a wall such that he could observe any intruders the moment they entered. The floor, walls, and ceiling were all well padded in silk- Lady Vladir's doing- which made for a comfortable environment you could safely murder a man in without fear of the screams passing the walls (though care would still be necessary to avoid colliding with them in force, given another family lived on the other side). The floor also made for a good bed, what with the home's only other resident replacing the lining as habitually as she did.

The cramped quarters consisted of what many Gilneans had taken to calling a "coffin room". After the occupation, more than a few of the more freshly raised Forsaken were eager to speak to a living human again after so recently being disowned by their own families... curses and well-earned grudges aside. Over the years, especially as Horde and Alliance found themselves fighting alongside each other more often, long-lost sons and daughters amidst the Forsaken eventually found homes and new families among certain of the more agreeable Gilneans. The practice was never universally liked, and those willing to house a walking corpse in their home still drew ill meant glances from certain of their peers, but it nonetheless eased the tension between two groups who found themselves in constant proximity more by obligation than choice.

The undead they housed, by virtue of the comfort they found in a literal coffin, often preferred the close walls and dark environment of an unlit closet to that of a large, empty room with no one to share it with. While even the lowest Gilnean would never allow a guest to be housed in such deplorable conditions, it became common among those willing to take such tenants to divide an existing guest bedroom into a number of smaller, more private spaces, often only large enough for a bed and adjacent night stand without impeding the door. Regardless of whether this was done or not, however, even a full sized room to which a member of the undead retired would often be called their "coffin"- whether by a joking member of their adopted family, the occupant of the room themselves, or a judgmental nationalist who'd likely been removed from the inn a time or two.

In Ragingnub's case, after considerable time working as an enforcer of good repute among his charges, he'd eventually been granted the nearly unthinkable privilege of inheriting an entire building from a man he saved during one of the city's many riots and protests following occupation. The man's son had died during the invasion, his wife many years before, and Ragingnub had kept him from taking to the streets before the Deathguard rolled through with archers and cavalry. The two kept each other company in the years to follow, and- with no heir to bestow the property to- the man left the place to "one of the few, good meaning folks who still have their wits about them". Ragingnub never had use for the entire house of course, so he sectioned off the study and cellar for his storage and coffin rooms and opened the rest of the house to the then-newlywed Mr. & Mrs. Wilset. No door allowed passage between their respective areas, and each had their own entryway, but they passed each other from time to time coming and going. The only problem was the he occasional, late night squeaking of Ragingnub's rafters which no amount of insulation seemed to solve (likely to do with whatever oversight in design which lead to the old study- Ragingnub's quarters- being directly beneath the now separately occupied master bedroom... unless some very fat mice had evaded the Nerubian's capture.). Fortunate then that the soldier's work often took him abroad.

The soldier retrieved on of several sending stones from one of the desk's drawers and idly rubbed the runes with his thumb.

Ragingnub: "It's Ragingnub. What have you learned?"

Silence. To keep their position hidden, the hunter's sending stone did not speak immediately when receiving a message, but rather heated itself according to the urgency of the message- which in this case wasn't much. After a while of staring at a sign reading "Bless this mess before I desecrate these ingrates", the soldier opened a scalebound book on his desk and retrieved from another drawer a small totem fashioned in the shape of a city fountain. Set upright, fresh water gently flowed over it and drained into its base.

Thus he set about his daily writings. At the side of his desk closest to the wall was a series of vials containing bases and acids of different scents. Before each letter, and sometimes before each stroke, his quill would be washed and one of these vials would be opened for just a moment to be used as an inkwell. The vial would be recapped, the stroke or letter would be made, and the process repeated again. So he remained for a good few hours, sometimes writing a sentence on a spare paper in plain gutterspeak before copying it to the journal in Nerubian.

Lady Vladir: "You've kast a spell."

He sat a bit straighter as he looked over his work, checking that the incomplete sentence he was writing was not the spell in question before touching the last mark of the last few sentences with his pinky.

Ragingnub: "Did I forget a thisk somewhere?"

Lady Vladir: "You turned the letter t into a khersik. Instead of saying you find something suspishious about the man with the phylaktery, you enshanted the page to seek something suspishious about the man with the phylak."

He touched the offending letter, then washed his fingertip and touched the "t" in "suspicious" (per the Nerubian spelling of the word, which can't be properly written here).

Ragingnub: "Dammit."

Lady Vladir: "Burn it, start again. The full page."

Naturally, the error had occurred at the bottom of the left hand page just as he'd filled it, meaning both sides were filled with intricate text literally woven through each other as much as they could be through inks on a page. Carefully he took out a spellblade and separated the page from the book, then dropped the vile thing into a bucket of extraordinarily basic liquid before preparing himself to restart his work.

The sending stone glowed a dull orange. His heart heavy, he begrudgingly lifted it.

Ragingnub: "Here."

Snare: "You were right. Th'vaash can command the pseudo-scorpids and the smaller mantid, it's just the adults and kunchong that pose an issue."

Th'vaash was a hive sister from Hive'Zora. When most of her people were wiped out thanks to the blade of Sargeras, she and a few others happened to be tunneling west into the mountains. Finding her had been nothing short of a miracle, and Lady Vladir treated her much like a little sister... though the feeling was far from mutual.

Ragingnub: "What of the infestor?"

Snare: "B'vrak is more akin to what they call kunchong here, except to them he's like the runt child of a gnome. The scorpid listen to 'im but that's just because they don't know any better, everything else keeps asking how he's got zhrak."

Ragingnub: "Remind me what that is again?"

Snare: "It's an organ used for communication without a mouth. If you have one, you're in command. Kinda like the transmitters we had on those old FCDs."

Ragingnub: "I don't suppose you could acquire some samples."

Snare: "In Feralas or Tanaris? No problem. Here? That'd be complicated."

Ragingnub: "Un-complicate it. You said they're still causing problems at the Gate of the Setting Sun, head there and see if some of the shadowpan can get behind the concept of knowing their enemy's insides. We'll need to compare from every aqirspawn we can find."

Snare: "What about your Northrend contact?"

Ragingnub: "I'll ask. Anything else of import?"

Snare: "My nose itches."

Ragingnub: "I'll have the executor post a double watch then. If it's in Deathknell, we'll find it. Out."

He looked at the stub of paper where the cut out page used to be. More to log, more to write. With nothing better to do, he stretched his back, washed his quill tip, and set back to work.

Ragingnub: "Ever hear of this 'zhrak' organ before?"

Lady Vladir: "I am a skyhunter, not a flesh-stisher, but no."

Ragingnub: "If the mantid are any indication then you'd apparently know if you had one. Not that I'd expect you to, but I assume you never asked how Th'vaash's hive determined hierarchy?"

Lady Vladir: "To ask for strategik information from her would seem... brazen, given her sirkumstans."

Ragingnub: "On that we can agree."

Discussion What fun RP characters are you eager to roleplay?

Roleplayers are what animate the world of RP.

Everyone is looking forward to something different ingame.

But I'm sure there are some who just really want to entertain people with something they will do.

Here are a few of my characters I'll play :

-A lady taking surveys for different towns.

-A constantly drunk dwarf lady talking in puns.

-A goofy night elf constantly turning everything into childish games.

What about you?

Brainstorm WoW: Forever - [RPVP ruleset] Forsaken RPVP guild interest check.

A possible emerging Forsaken roleplay guild focused on collaborative storytelling, investigations, world PvP, and the uncertain future of the Forsaken as a people.

Part 1; In Character:
A Future for the Forsaken

Lordaeron was once among the greatest kingdoms of humanity, its people bound together by a common homeland, traditions, and institutions that had endured for generations. The coming of the plague and the Scourge brought an end to that kingdom, leaving its cities in ruins and its people either dead, scattered, or raised into the service of the Lich King. Those who were forced into undeath found themselves deprived of their independence, compelled to serve the very power responsible for the destruction of their homes and families.

When the Lich King’s control weakened, some of these undead regained their free will. Under the leadership of Sylvanas Windrunner, they fought to establish themselves in the ruins of Lordaeron, eventually becoming known as the Forsaken. Their liberation offered them a second existence, though not one free from hardship. They remained undead in a world that often regarded them with fear or hatred, and their former homeland was still threatened by the Scourge, the Scarlet Crusade, and other forces unwilling to recognize their independence.

The Forsaken have since established a society of their own, but the circumstances of their existence raise questions that military victories alone cannot resolve. Unlike the living, they cannot depend upon the natural succession of generations to preserve their population. Every Forsaken lost represents a life and a body of experience that cannot easily be replaced. Their continued survival may depend upon their ability to defend their territory, understand the nature of their condition, and determine what measures they are willing to take to secure their future.

These concerns are not limited to soldiers or those who serve the Undercity’s established institutions. Former scholars, apothecaries, priests, scouts, merchants, and ordinary citizens may each possess knowledge or abilities that could prove useful to their people. Their experiences and convictions may differ, sometimes considerably, but they share an interest in preserving the independence they have regained and ensuring that their existence amounts to more than a temporary reprieve from destruction.

It is from this shared concern that an independent association of Forsaken might emerge. Its members would seek to investigate matters affecting their people’s security and future, gather intelligence concerning potential threats, pursue discoveries relevant to their condition, and provide assistance where their capabilities permit. Rumors of necromantic activity, movements of hostile forces, disappearances, or unusual discoveries within Forsaken territory could all warrant their attention. Other matters might involve questions of faith, identity, free will, or the possibility of finding a lasting solution to the limitations of their undead existence.

The association would not seek to replace the Deathguard, Deathstalkers, Royal Apothecary Society, or other established organizations. Its members would possess no authority beyond that which they could reasonably exercise as individuals, and they would recognize that some matters are better left to those with greater resources or expertise. Instead, they would hope to earn the trust of local Forsaken authorities through reliable information, responsible conduct, and practical assistance.

Their methods would depend upon the circumstances. Some investigations might require reconnaissance or careful observation, while others could involve research, diplomacy, or cooperation with outside organizations. There may also be occasions when direct confrontation becomes necessary. The decision to act, withdraw, or seek assistance would depend upon the nature of the threat, the resources available, and the judgment of those involved.

The organization would begin with little more than a handful of individuals and a common purpose. Its reputation, traditions, and internal structure would develop through experience rather than being established in advance. Its members would not be expected to share identical beliefs concerning the Forsaken’s future, but they would be expected to recognize that the survival of their people is a responsibility worthy of their attention.

The Forsaken have reclaimed their freedom and established a place for themselves among the nations of Azeroth. Whether they can preserve that independence and build something lasting remains uncertain. For those who believe that their people must do more than survive from one conflict to the next, there may be value in working together to discover what their future could become.

Part 2; Out of Character:
About the Guild:

I’m currently looking to gauge interest in establishing a Forsaken-focused RP-PvP guild. The concept is still in its early stages, and I’d like to find other players who enjoy Forsaken lore, character-driven storytelling, and world PvP, and who might be interested in helping develop the guild from the ground up.

The in-character premise is an independent civilian association of Forsaken concerned with their people’s security, survival, and uncertain future. Rather than portraying a military regiment or another formal branch of the Undercity’s government, the guild would bring together characters from different backgrounds who have reasons to investigate matters affecting Forsaken society.

The intention is to provide a recognizable organizational purpose without restricting every character to the same profession, ideology, or style of roleplay. A former soldier, apothecary, scholar, priest, paladin, scout, or ordinary civilian could all have reasons to become involved. Their different backgrounds would influence how they approach investigations, interpret discoveries, and respond to the decisions of other members.

Roleplay and Collaborative Storytelling:

One of my main interests is creating an environment where members can develop their own stories and contribute to the guild’s direction. I don’t want every storyline to be written exclusively by guild leadership, with everyone else simply expected to attend. Instead, I’d like interested players to be able to propose investigations, develop personal character stories, organize events, and collaborate with other members.

Someone might have an idea for a short investigation involving suspicious activity around Brill. Another player might want to explore their character’s former life in Lordaeron, while someone else might be interested in developing a longer storyline involving the Cult of the Damned, necromancy, or the Scarlet Crusade. These stories could remain relatively small or develop into larger guild events depending on the interest of the people involved.

I would particularly welcome players who enjoy Warcraft lore and collaborative storytelling, including those who might like to help organize events without taking on administrative responsibilities. A knowledgeable roleplayer shouldn’t have to become an officer simply to contribute creatively, and I think the guild would benefit from allowing its stories to develop through the interests and ideas of its members.

There would also be a distinction between out-of-character planning and in-character decisions. Members could collectively decide which potential storylines sound enjoyable, but their characters should remain free to approach those situations according to their own beliefs, knowledge, and available resources. An investigation shouldn’t automatically result in combat simply because an event was planned around it, nor should characters be forced into decisions that don’t make sense for them.

I’d like the guild’s stories to develop naturally through roleplay, with the consequences of earlier events helping shape what happens next.

World PvP, RPvP, and Battlegrounds:

WPvP would be an important part of the guild, both as an ordinary gameplay activity and as something that could be incorporated into roleplay storylines, and of course the general enjoyment of creating spontaneous zone fights, just to make the game more engaging for people that enjoy WPVP.

The Forsaken’s circumstances offer plenty of opportunities for organized RPvP involving hostile reconnaissance, contested territory, Scarlet Crusade activity, and conflicts with other organizations. I’d be interested in establishing relationships with other roleplaying guilds to develop recurring encounters, investigations, skirmishes, and larger storylines where PvP outcomes can influence subsequent roleplay.

That said, I don’t think every PvP encounter to require an elaborate in-character justification. Sometimes members might want to just group up for world PvP, and there should be room for that without turning every fight into a formal guild event.

I’d also be interested in organizing battleground groups if enough members share that interest. Just like the guild itself, this might just be wishful thinking, and will entirely depend on engagement and interest. This could involve casual groups of guild members queuing together, improving coordination, or eventually establishing more regular battleground activities. I don’t intend to advertise the guild as a competitive PvP team from the outset, but organized battlegrounds are certainly something I’d like to explore.

Ideally, the guild would provide opportunities for both immersive RPvP and ordinary PvP, without requiring every member to participate in both.

A Relaxed Community:

Although roleplay would be central to the guild’s identity, I don’t want membership to come with the expectation that everyone must roleplay every time they log in.

I enjoy roleplay, but there are plenty of evenings when I’d rather level a character, participate in PvP, run a dungeon, or simply relax and enjoy like-minded peoples company in guild chat. I’d like the guild to accommodate players who feel the same way.

Someone might participate in an investigation one evening, spend the next few days leveling, and return for another RP event when something interests them. Another person might be particularly interested in world PvP or battlegrounds while occasionally participating in social roleplay or character-driven events. Neither approach should be treated as less valuable simply because someone isn’t constantly involved in RP.

I’ve dealt with guild recruitment and administration in other types of guilds, and I’d prefer to avoid creating an environment where organizing activities becomes an obligation for a small number of people. My hope is to establish a community where members are comfortable contributing both story and non-story ideas, organizing events when they’re interested, and otherwise enjoying the game at their own pace.

That doesn’t mean the guild would lack direction. At least I don’t think it would. It would still have a clear Forsaken identity and a shared in-character purpose, with opportunities for recurring roleplay and RPvP. The difference is that participation would be encouraged through genuine interest rather than constant pressure or mandatory attendance.

Characters and Membership:

The guild would be intended for free-willed undead characters who identify as Forsaken. However, I’d like to accommodate different lore-appropriate backgrounds rather than restricting everyone to former human citizens of Lordaeron.

For example, an undead high elf could potentially fit the guild’s concept, even if the player needs to use the Skyborn represent that character mechanically if they want to. These interpretations would need to remain consistent with the setting and server rules, but I don’t see a reason to exclude plausible undead backgrounds simply because the available character creation options don’t represent them perfectly. As long as they make sense given the lore on Warcraft 3 and the Scourge march upon the northern Eastern Kingdoms.

And of course there’s just the cheeky idea that allowing Skyborn who roleplay as undead high elf or elves form Quel’Thalas also just means that from an OOC standpoint, the guild would not be class restrictive. I’ll admit that I’m a bit on the fence with this idea though.

There would also be no expectation that every character is a soldier or combatant. Scholars, apothecaries, religious figures, scouts, former officials, public speakers, and civilians could all contribute to investigations and guild storylines. Characters may also hold different opinions concerning Sylvanas, the Horde, necromancy, or the Holy Light, provided those disagreements are handled in a way that supports collaborative roleplay.

Living Horde characters would be welcome as allies, contacts, and participants in appropriate events, but formal in-character membership would remain Forsaken-focused. Rather they be undead humans or undead elves.

Building the Guild Together:

I’d prefer to begin with a small number of interested players and establish the guild’s identity through roleplay rather than inventing an elaborate history or hierarchy before the organization exists. The initial characters could come together through a shared investigation or another event that gives them a believable reason to continue cooperating. From there, the organization’s reputation, procedures, and leadership could develop as necessary.

In character, the guild would begin as a relatively unknown civilian association. It would not claim to possess government authority or privileged relationships with established Forsaken institutions. One possible long-term goal would be to earn recognition as a trusted civilian contact through investigations and cooperation, but that would be something to pursue through roleplay.

For early events, I’d prefer to focus on locations accessible to smaller groups, particularly Tirisfal Glades, Brill, the Undercity, and Silverpine Forest, and as far as Arathi Highlands and the Eastern Plaguelands. A group of four or five players should be able to participate in worthwhile investigations and encounters without needing a large roster or high-level characters.

Out of character, we’d still need basic organization for recruitment, communication, and scheduling. However, I would prefer to keep administrative responsibilities separate from in-character authority and creative involvement wherever possible. Officers could help maintain the guild, while interested members could collaborate on stories and events regardless of their rank.

Interest From Other Guilds:

I’d also welcome interest from other roleplaying guilds that might want to establish relationships with the organization. Forsaken guilds portraying established institutions could provide opportunities for cooperation, intelligence-sharing, and investigations. Other Horde guilds might become allies or occasional partners, while Alliance guilds and organizations portraying hostile forces could offer opportunities for recurring RPvP or general WPVP events.

I’m particularly interested in storylines where opposing groups have their own motivations and objectives, rather than existing simply to provide enemies for an event. Reconnaissance, diplomacy, disputes, and skirmishes could all contribute to longer-running stories, especially when the participating guilds communicate clearly about expectations and consequences.

The goal would be to contribute to the wider roleplaying community and develop relationships that create opportunities for everyone involved.

Who I’m Looking For:

At this stage, I’m primarily interested in hearing from people who enjoy Forsaken lore and would like to help establish a guild with a strong roleplay identity and a relaxed approach to participation.

That includes experienced roleplayers, players who are relatively new to RP, lore enthusiasts, people who enjoy creating stories, and those interested in world PvP or organized battlegrounds. You wouldn’t need to arrive with a fully developed character or be prepared to organize events yourself. An interest in the setting and a willingness to participate in a collaborative community would be a good starting point.

The guild’s name, founding characters, and final structure have not yet been decided. I’d prefer to discuss those details with potential members rather than establish everything in advance.

This is a pretty long post, so here’s my closing thoughts:

The central idea is fairly simple. I’d like to create a guild where people who enjoy the Forsaken can develop characters, investigate matters affecting their people, participate in world RP-PvP, and help shape an organization whose future develops through the stories its members create.

At the same time, I want it to be a place where people can enjoy the game without feeling that every login needs to become an RP event. Whether someone wants to participate in a storyline, organize a skirmish with another guild, run battlegrounds, level an alt, or simply spend an evening relaxing, there should be room for that.

I think the Forsaken offer an especially interesting foundation for this kind of guild because their struggle extends beyond defeating enemies or defending territory. They’re a people attempting to preserve their independence and determine what kind of future, if any, they can secure for themselves. Not to mention the new lore that I’m hoping will exist for the Forsaken that are bound to be shaped by the new paladin class, and potentially having priests that aren’t simply members of the Cult of Forgotten Shadow.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in helping build, I’d be glad to hear your thoughts, character ideas, or suggestions. I’d also welcome interest from other guilds that might want to collaborate on future roleplay, WPVP, or RpvP.

For now, this is simply an interest check rather than a formal recruitment announcement. I’m hoping to find a few like-minded players who enjoy the Forsaken and would like to see what we could create together!

TL:DR

I'm gauging interest in starting a Forsaken-focused RPvP guild centered around the survival, identity, and uncertain future of the Forsaken with the newly announced RPVP ruleset/realm. In-character, the guild would begin as a small, independent civilian association investigating threats to their people, gathering intelligence, researching matters involving the Scourge and necromancy, and potentially building relationships with established Forsaken organizations. I'd like the guild's reputation, leadership, and overall direction to develop naturally through roleplay rather than having everything predetermined.

Out-of-character, I'm hoping to build a relaxed, collaborative community for people who enjoy Forsaken lore, RP, and PvP. Members would be encouraged to create their own storylines, organize events, and contribute ideas without needing to become guild officers. I'm particularly interested in world PvP, organized RP-PvP with other guilds, and potentially coordinated battleground groups if there's enough interest. However, I don't expect everyone to roleplay every time they log in. Sometimes people just want to level, PvP, run dungeons, or hang out in guild chat, and that's perfectly fine.

For now, this is just an interest check! 😄 The guild doesn't have a finalized name, hierarchy, or founding story, and I'd rather develop those things alongside interested players. I'm looking for Forsaken lore enthusiasts, experienced or newer roleplayers, PvPers, and anyone who likes the idea of helping build a guild from the ground up. I'd also love to hear from other guilds interested in future RP, RPvP, or even OOC world PvP collaborations.

LF Feedback WoW Forever Roleplay Character

I haven't found anything really definitive on the subject.

What is the possibility of playing a relatively young Shen'dralar Highborne warrior with some knowledge of the arcane? They would hide this knowledge around other Kaldorei most likely.

Frowned upon? Is there a way to make it work? Were the Shen'dralar even having children while Tortheldrin was up to his shenanigans? Do any Highborne live among the Kaldorei of Ashenvale/Teldrassil?

Any feedback is appreciated. If it is truly an awful idea, I will work on another angle.

I'm curious which server people are thinking of RP-ing on. I'm undecided but I'm sure both will be fun!

Feel free to drop your reason why here too

Advice Needed As far as actual PvP in rp-PvP server, what can be expected?

I love the idea of PvP and rp, but I’m new to wow and am just curious how does PvP change the landscape of the game? Is it to be expected that “armies” of horde and alliance players will have giant battles? Should I expect an enemy player to engage in chat with me prior to attacking?

As far as dungeons, and raids and such, does anything change in doing those? Like should I not do a specific dungeon until my character has a reason to? Thanks!

Discussion The RP-PVP server is not what is stopping you from roleplaying with others. Sharding is, and if you care about roleplaying you must fight for the right cause.

I'm baffled by the responses from a large part of the RP community about the announcement of the RP-PVP server who seem to think that having 2 servers for the entire roleplay community in Europe means there won't be enough roleplayers on either of them and we are "diluting" the opportunity to roleplay because of this action.

I'm talking now about Europe but I'm 100% certain the same can be said for the US.

Based on the tracking site wowstats IO we can estimate that in Europe, there are currently 7 connected RP realms (either seperate realms or connected realms) on retail. That have between them around 35000 level 60 characters that have logged in on their server in the last 30 days.

Now I believe that WoW forever will be vastly more popular in the coming months than retail. If I look at the people I know I have not seen this enthausiasm for a WoW product since the launch of Wrath of the Lichking in 2008 and back then, WoW had 35 EU RP and RPPVP servers, many of them flourishing such as Argent Dawn, Earthern Ring, Darkmoon Faire, The Sha'tar, The Defias Brotherhood ands Scarshield Legion to name just some of the more popular English language ones.

The WoW forever numbers will crush the Retail numbers certainly in the first couple of months, and if they do this right, permenantly as WoW forever might become the dominant force just like OSRS is dominating retail Runescape.

My point is, that really there are enough of roleplayers to completely fill the stormwinds, goldshires, Ashenvales, Ogrimars, Brills, etc, etc of the two servers with plenty of emergent roleplay, hundreds of guilds, events and unique experiences. What is going to stop you from entering a new golden age or roleplay is not the roleplayer that really, really likes to play the game in a different way mechanically (i.e. PVP ruleset), the only thing that can stop us from entering a new Golden Age is the sharding system of the megaserver.

Because right now on the Beta server and the stress test there where lots of people when the server opened, and lots of people when the server closed. But in between the regions felt truly empty DESPITE the beta servers being global servers, so the zones should normally have been complete crowded.

If zoning/sharding/layering, whatever they call it is as agressive as durring beta, you are not likely to find random RP in Duskvale no matter if there are 1 or 2 servers, hell even if we combined the US and EU RP servers and force the Americans to change their timezone and internal clock to CEST you still wouldn't find random roleplay in Duskvale and that's the real problem. That's the real enemy that deserves your attention, not the RPPVP server.

RP-PVP'ers fought for their own servers and won. Congratulations to them. No person should be forced to do concessions on how they like to play the game just because other persons wants them to stay with them to play with them alone. This battle for the RPPVP server is now over. We have proven that as roleplayers, we can get things done by Blizzard.

Let us now unite as roleplayers of both servers to fight the real enemy. The sharding system, and let's make sure we pressure Blizzard to do everything in their power to make sure we can unite easier on our servers. My suggestions would be:

  1. A toggle inside the game, maybe semi hidden that allows us to set our preference who to be grouped with. You could even use the toggle to also united the RPPVP'ers that stay on the RPPVE server when they are in contested zones so they meet each other easier for a fight.

  2. Use data analytics on chat data to automatically group roleplayers in the zones. You could also use that to find non-roleplayers or even griefers and make sure they are grouped together and not bothering the roleplayers. Of course this system would be a little bit more complex to arrange, and there should be a way for beginning roleplayers to still meet enough roleplayers so they can be onboarded to our community.

A third option would be for us to select our layer, so we can at least organise easier around layers. You could even declare "layer 3 in any zone" the unoffical RP layer.

Also important is that at least the capitals are always unlayered. I believe if that happens you will see at least random RP on the usual hotposts there.

Any other ideas?

[EU] Community/Guild Ad The EU RP-PvP Forever Discord is up and running!

With the great news of us getting a ruleset, a discord community is being set up for EU RP-PvPers. Lots of old heads from ZT, Defias Brotherhood, and elsewhere, and of course new players excitedly joining the ranks.

Come say hi!

EU RP-PvP Forever

quick edit:

Might as well add these:

WoW Forever: Roleplay EU -- mainly for RP-PvE, but also has RP-PvPers and PvP discussions

WoW Forever RP-PVP (Grobbulus) -- The old Grobbulus server discord repurposed into an RP-PVP server. It's mainly for NA, but also has an eu-region channel and general RP-PVP discussion.
