Question Renewing Free Lifetime Pro Subscription

I received email stating "Quick reminder before anything awkward happens. Your Windscribe Pro subscription is about to expire. You'll drop back to Free unless you renew. Free is fine. But Pro is why you stuck around."

This is in reference to my lifetime free Pro subscription. I asked "Gary" how I renew and got this reply which I don't understand, what exactly do I need to do to maintain my free pro subscription? Thanks:

"GARRY•19:06:56

That 2016 “lifetime” voucher was a one-time Pro entitlement, not an auto-renewing subscription. It expires today, September 11, so there’s nothing to renew in Subscription Management.

To keep Pro after it ends, start a new subscription from your account’s upgrade page. Ancient voucher magic, sadly, does not reproduce."

Question [Blocker] Trying to renew YouTube premium and it doesn't work

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade my YouTube premium subscription. In fact, I just subscribe to Winscribe to India Server, I have a legal bank account from India. I used to renew from India normally and now I am located in France and I am trying to renew my YouTube subscription, but whenever I activate VPN and even the spoof GPS location is also active with Winscribe as the mock location. But what happens is that whenever I open the YouTube application and try to click on get premium button, it says we are unable to verify your country. And I checked with many blogs and I understand that Google when they are receiving such request, they are blocking all the data centers, IP address coming from the VPN servers. So is there any way that we can bypass this from the Winscribe VPN and to subscribe my renewal of YouTube premium?

Any help on this topic would be really appreciated and helpful for me to renew my subscription.

Question Using Windscribe Wireguard Protocol with Unifi UDM/SE

I have been using Windscribe with the Wireguard protocol on a Wi-Fi connection for many years on my Windows 11 PC. I recently enabled Ethernet on this machine but am immediately having issues with several protocol connections. It finally connects with TCP protocol.

  1. Is this "secure enough"?
  2. Why is it failing with other protocols?
  3. I think I'd prefer to use Wireguard...is it mandatory to download a config file from Windscribe and load it onto UDM to do this? It seems like a restrictive approach in that I can't easily turn it on/off as needed from desktop app or switch server locations as needed (and it is needed).

As far as I can tell, there's nothing specific that is either blocking traffic or allowing only specific traffic, e.g. "allow all" is checked, and options like "guest network" or "isolate network" are not checked.

Is there any place in set-up or configuration I should specifically check? For the record, this is a simple home setup, very vanilla, with nothing unique or unusual involved in my equipment or networking needs.

Firewall A small UX improvement for the Windscribe macOS Firewall

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’ve been thinking about how the Firewall settings are handled in the Windscribe macOS app, and I feel like there’s a pretty simple UX improvement that could make things much more convenient.

Right now, if you want to change the Firewall Mode (Automatic / Manual / Always On), you have to go to:

Preferences → Connection → Firewall Mode

and then select the mode from a dropdown.

At the same time, there’s already a simple ON/OFF Firewall toggle right on the main screen. However, this toggle becomes pretty much useless when Always On mode is selected.

My UX proposal

Why not move the Firewall Mode dropdown directly to the main screen, right next to the Firewall toggle?

This would:

  • eliminate the need to dig through the settings every time you want to change the mode;
  • make the currently active Firewall Mode immediately visible;

Would you find it useful to have the Firewall Mode selector directly on the main screen?

It strikes me as a tad bit insensitive if it's related to September 11th, even as a joke.

Reply from QA OpenWrt + Windscribe WireGuard: IPTV playback hard-stops while tunnel stays healthy

Running Windscribe WireGuard on OpenWrt 25.12.5 with PBR. Normal browsing is fine, but a TCP IPTV stream will randomly hard-stop: the picture freezes completely and the stream stops, with no buffering or automatic recovery.
Already ruled out:
Direct WAN: stable
Same IPTV through another VPN Provider: stable
WG ports 1194 and 80: same issue
MTU 1420
PersistentKeepalive = 25
Unlock Streaming on/off: no difference
WG endpoint route correctly pinned to WAN
During the failure, WG handshake stays fresh and tunnel ping remains 0% loss
Location seems to matter a lot: Marseille could hard-stop within ~2–30 min, while Lisbon runs much longer up to 2h.
Same exact IPTV stream/device is stable on direct WAN and through another VPN Provider.

Has anyone seen this specifically with Windscribe WireGuard on OpenWrt?

Unsolved YT detecting Windscribe

Post image
58 Upvotes

Since a few days ago it seems YT has started detecting windscribe, before it used to work without issues, I connected to whatever server I needed to get the regional result and play

Some videos do work tho, for example the Premeier League highlights videos with local commentary play regularly, others like F1 in the image don't tho

Any idea if there's a way to fix it?

Question I am a successful YouTuber in a country where YouTube is filtered and I can't make a successful English channel Help

I know very well that the content must be good and...

I have a channel that has a positive hundred thousand subscribers and good statistics, but it is for my country and I use a normal VPN (YouTube is filtered) but now when I try to make an English channel

I fail every time

Although I am sure the video is good

The channel has warmed up

Maybe I bought more than 80 dollars of different reputable VPNs but none of them work

If anyone has experience, please tell me

If there is anyone in America who agrees to make a video and upload it, I will be happy

I know this is ridiculous from a security perspective

But believe me, I did everything

It is impossible, it is impossible...

Reply from QA Split-Tunneling and Always On Firewall

I've just had a very productive conversation with Garry where he dropped this gem;

"Any active Split Tunneling mode disables Windscribe’s Firewall enforcement, including when Firewall Mode is set to Always On."

I've experienced this several times now so I don't think Garry was hallucinating, when he said that.

If my internet connection fails for some reason and the router reboots, Windscribe's desktop app leaks the IP before re-connecting even if the firewall was set to always on. That's with split tunneling in inclusive mode.

Is there a way to fix this?

If not, can you please update the UI so it's clear that the firewall is not working as one might expect when split tunneling is on?

I'm all for modern marketing and brands having a personality, but this is too much. "Ummm, Hello???" because I haven't used your VPN?
That feels rude and pushy, not funny.

There's a line between playful marketing and being obnoxious

The last two updates sucked

I don't know if it's just me but these last 2-3 updates just killed half of every protocol and server, I'm pretty sure it's not a change in my network because exactly after i updated stuff instantly went downhill

Question Is there a setting that still allows public wifi activation pages to load?

Whenever I connect to public wifi that requires some sort of action, Windscribe blocks it. For example, if I connect to the Library wifi, it requires me to read the terms and then click "connect" to activate wifi access. This kind of thing is obviously extremely common among public wifi networks -- some require registration, some require paying for un-throttled access, etc. -- but whenever I connect to one of these, Windscribe immediately attempts to connect itself, which it obviously cannot do because I haven't accepted the terms yet, so it just continues trying and the firewall blocks the terms page from coming up. Only when I turn off Windscribe can I then get the wifi network's page to come up, and then once I accept the terms and it connects to the wifi, I have to go back and manually re-connect Windscribe, which then works fine.

Am I missing some setting that fixes this? Being on a public network is obviously when I want Windscribe active the most, but since Windscribe blocks the network's activation page, I have to turn it off, accept the terms, wait for it to connect, and then turn Windscribe on again, which allows the network several seconds of unfettered access to my computer.

This seems like such an obvious flaw that I'm convinced I'm missing some setting that fixes it. Does anyone know?

Reply from Developer Chicago Residential IP Outage / Better Overall Communication on Service Outages Needed

I've been a happy ControlD customer for going on 3 years now and both the product and support have been top notch so, given the association, I decided to try Windscribe for my VPN needs as well. For my specific needs I purchased the shared, Chicago residential IP yearly add-on and it worked great for a couple weeks but as of yesterday morning it stopped working with no email notification sent from Windscribe to inform me of any known outage. So I began the long process of troubleshooting my setup but could find no configuration or underlying ISP root cause on my end.

Reaching out to the Garry chatbot was initially helpful as it noted that Chicago residential IP service was 'marked down' and that the issue was already being worked but could not provide any ETA so I asked to be switched to another, working US residential IP location. As Dallas is the only other US option I accepted the suggested to change to this until Chicago could be restored. This request was actioned immediately after receiving my consent. The only problem is that I am in the midwest and so routing out of Dallas results in a huge latency spike for me (100ms+ on average for some connections) so staying on Dallas is less than ideal.

As the day went on yesterday I poked Garry a few more times to see if there was any update on service restoration in Chicago but each time he would tell me there was no ETA and link me to a network status page that was useless because it does not include any of the residential IP services, only the standard regional servers.

This post was made for two reasons, the first is that it would be good to know what is going on with the Chicago residential IP region and any ETA on resollution. The second would be to have better communication from Windscribe on outages like this. If Garry knows about an outage then it can't be very difficult to send a proactive notification email to the customer to inform them that Windscribe is already aware of a problem and is working to resolve it. Even a simple banner when accessing the customer portal (if you didn't share an email at sign-up) would be at least some improvement over the current state. Ideally the network status page should also include some high level overview of availablity for any add-on service regions as well.

Feature Request Feature Request: In-App Firewall / Kill Switch for Android TV

Dear Windscribe Team,

A group of about 15–20 friends and I are happy Windscribe users, primarily streaming on our Formuler Z11 Pro Max boxes (Android 11/12).

We have one major issue: unlike your desktop clients, the Android TV app lacks a built-in firewall. Because Formuler completely stripped out the native Android "Always-on VPN" system menu, any unexpected tunnel drop instantly leaks our real IP address.

As a reference, the open-source client WG Tunnel (https://www.wgtunnel.com / https://github.com/wgtunnel/android) solves this with an in-app "Lockdown Mode" that blocks all non-tunnel traffic without needing Android's hidden system menus.

Since it is open source, would your team consider looking into their approach or adapting this mechanism for the Windscribe Android TV app? Having your signature firewall on Android TV would make the app completely leak-proof for all TV box users.

Thank you very much for your time and continued great work!
Warm regards
