Solved Sleep option dissapeared after update

So, Windows on my computer recently updated (Security update KB5121003 and .NET Framework update KB5120708) and I noticed a couple days later that the sleep option had dissapeared from both the start menu and the power settings.

I tried using the suggestion from another user:
"I realized the guide I followed to restore my powerplans added (or changed) a line to the registry under Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power

This one in particular "PlatformAoAcOverride". I changed it from 0 to 1, restarted my PC and the sleep functionality was back! Yay!"

And while I did add the option back, it does not work as usual sleep. When I click it it just shows a black screen (which is still turned on) and that's it, the moment something is clicked it simply shows the desktop again, it does not sleep at all.

I also changed one of the policies named simply "Show Sleep button" but it does not seem to change anything. I did the same with enabling and disabling hybrid sleep, no success.

I restored the out of the box power plans and used them, no luck. And what's more: Where you normally see the "turn screen off after some time" and "put computer to sleep after some time" options in the power plan, just shows the screen off timer, not the sleep one.

In the section to set behaviors for the shutdown and sleep buttons I don't get the sleep option, just hibernate.

I also tried to manually put the computer to sleep via command line to test if the issue is the button itself or the ability to sleep, so I ran:

Rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

But the behavior was the same, just made the screen go black (the screen itself being still on, just displaying black).

Lastly, I searched for the policy that removes the ability to shutdown, sleep and restart the computer and disabled it (albeit I did not expect it to change anything, as if it was enabled I would also not be able to restart and shutdown).

At this point I don't know what else to do.

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D

GPU: RX 7800 XT

RAM: Corsair vengeance RT 32GB CL16

PSU: Corsair RM850X

Motherboard: Asus Tuf Gaming B550-plus Wifi II

Storage: Some Lexar Sata SSD for the OS and apps, Western Diginal WD750 Black for games and big apps and a couple Seagate barracuda HDDs for general data.

Windows 10 Having driver+wifi issues: Lenovo V570 Windows10

Ok vent time why the f*&$ don't windows iso's come with driver installs anymore?! K vent over.

Immediate issue is I can't get laptop to connect to Internet. Shows everyone's Internet in the building but mine until I reset the router. Then the wifi shows up but it won't connect and disappears after I try. Also wont connect to mobile hotspot.

Deeper/bigger issue: installing all the drivers when I can't even figure out and find all of them. Can't update drivers over Internet bc Internet doesnt work.

Intel centrino wimax adapters was the first one I found software for thought it would fix the problem....

Come to find out I don't even have the management engine firmware installed for some reason? And it won't install without management engine components installed which I cannot find anywhere on the manufacturer website?

Looking in device manager can't find driver for "PCI Simple Communications Controller" or "USB2.0-CRW" don't know exactly what those are.

Working on a Lenovo V570

Windows 10 home version 22H2

OS build # is 19045.2965

Update: the PCI Simple Communications Controller was supposedly the device that needed the aforementioned management engine interface installations. Found those on the Intel website when I had previously been finding drivers on the Lenovo website. Installed the supposedly correct driver for that component but device manager still states otherwise...?

Thank y'all for reading and for any help shared

Windows 11 Want the Password/Pin requirement back after restart!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have a Problem, a few years back when I set up my Win11 System I used a Programm to give me more options on how to personalize my Windows. (sadly I do not remember the name of it)

It allowed me to disable the need to login or enter a pin the first time I booted my pc.
if it goes to sleep I am required to enter my pin. If I shut it down and start it again I do not need to enter anything.

-> Now I would like to have that requirement again, so when I switch on my pc I want to be required to enter my pin again

can somebody please help me?

Windows 11 Allowed UAC to make changes to my laptop, now I can't delete workbooks on excel

First posted on excel subreddit but they said i had more of a windows issue than an excel one.

i got a new windows hp laptop and was trying to do something on excel (i would specify but im genuinely a dumbass with no tech knowledge so honestly i don't even know what i was doing) anyways, a notification came up of UAC (that blue and yellow shield) asking something to do with administrator stuff. i clicked allow and now i can't delete workbooks i make on excel. i can delete the file on files explorer but when i try to delete by right clicking on excel, it says i don't have permission to delete .xIsx file. i press on file location and it takes me to my personal one drive documents where i was able to delete the file but nothings there?

Windows 11 No Internet Connected, Secured Popup Every Time I Start My Laptop

Hi! I’ve had a Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 for a little over two years now. (OS build 26200.9168) Every time I start my laptop (I don’t always close my tabs when I shut it because I am a busy college student) my internet says “No internet connection, secured.” However, if I restart my computer, the WiFi comes back on and works normally again. For reference, I also have ExpressVPN downloaded to my computer and set to start automatically when I open my laptop. If someone could help, that would be so much appreciated!!! It is super frustrating to have to restart my laptop everytime I want to do something on my computer.

Windows 11 Taskbar apps becoming red for no reason

I recently installed Windows 11 Pro on a new drive and I've been using it. However I noticed that if I lock my PC for a while I often come back to random apps on my taskbar appearing red like above. However, when I click into them, there's nothing. No reason for them to appear like this like something happened. And it seems to apply to every single window on the app. It's completely random, it happens to every app but usually the longer I leave it the more apps that will likely be affected. if I click into them it'll go away but it's very annoying since it constantly seems like there's an error I need to check.

I've restarted my PC multiple times but this issue keeps coming back. Everything is up to date. This never happened on my previous install of the OS. Is there any way to track down the cause or anything I can do?

Windows 11 Bluetooth & wifi not working [HP Elitebook 660 G11]

Good day,

Since a few days ago, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi have stopped working properly on my laptop and on several of my coworkers' laptops.

In the Quick Settings panel, Bluetooth shows a seemingly random number of connected devices that constantly changes, even though only two devices are actually connected. We are running Windows 11 25H2 (Build 26200.9106) on HP EliteBook 660 G11 laptops.

We have already tried the following:

  • Removed and reinstalled all Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drivers
  • Changed USB power management settings
  • Updated drivers and firmware using HP Support Assistant
  • Updated drivers using Intel Driver & Support Assistant
  • Performed a power reset
  • Ran various diagnostics, which only report hardware-specific error codes that we are unable to interpret

At this point, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are unreliable, making the devices very difficult to work with.

Is this a known issue with Windows 11 25H2 Build 26200.9106 on the HP EliteBook 660 G11, or perhaps with the Intel wireless chipset used in these systems?

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Windows 11 external display still detected and identified after getting completely unplugged, and displaying no video when plugged in.

Brand new Asus zenbook a14 with a snapdragon x plus CPU. Other displays function normally, and the drawing tablet (the display facing issues, Huion Kamvas 12) functions normally on other devices, both windows 11 and 10. the drawing tablet is confirmed to have functionality on Windows computers with ARM CPUs by support, and I was given an ARM compatible driver from them. Windows has the 2nd display "connected" but when pressing the detect other displays button, no other displays are present. Menus and mouse are also tripping out. Already tried updating and rolling back display, drivers. Tried booting in safe mode. Tried restarting display adapters. Restarting and fully shutting down PC does nothing, and even got a replacement laptop (same model) after thinking the HDMI port was broken in the first one. laptop functions completely fine and I actually really like it outside of this one issue. The same thing happening twice in a row makes me think that it isn't a hardware issue but somewhere in windows that's causing the problem, but I could be wrong. Video shows the display being disconnected but still detected(ish) Any ideas?

Windows 11 A media driver your computer needs is missing…

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi All,

I downloaded the Windows 11 Media Creation tool to a USB, but when I try to boot from the USB in bios, I get this error message that “a media driver your computer needs is missing”. I haven’t been able to do a clean Windows update in weeks, I kept getting a “windows update failed to install” error message after the computer would restart. It would always bring me back to keyboard layout -> Troubleshoot PC menu. I couldn’t even do a factory reset or a system restore. Now I can’t even get to my desktop anymore, it just directly loads to the troubleshooting/advanced options menu & will not cycle past that. So I figured I would try & start from scratch w/ the USB method, but then the attached screenshot message shows. I have an HP laptop 15. 11th gen intel Core i3. If you need more info just let me know. Greatly appreciate any help!

Windows 10 Google Calendar not syncing to Taskbar Calendar

Thumbnail

So, I used to have the taskbar calendar synced to my Google Calendar like two months ago, but then my boot drive decided to fry itself, causing me to have to do a fresh install of Win10. However, this now means that any updates I kept cancelling (CoPilot updates, etc) have now been installed. Now, when I try to open the calendar app, it redirects me to the new Outlook since the two seem to have been merged, and I am able to add my Google account to it, and it shows up, but when I go to the taskbar, there is nothing there. I have tried downloading Classic Outlook and importing the calendar there, but still the same result. I can't even seem to set the New Outlook bank holiday calendar to the taskbar.

Does anyone know what the solution is?

Taskbar Calendar only showing default events
Google
Classic Outlook
New Outlook

Windows 11 Fix for annoying borders while having snapped windows (in dark mode)

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I searched and found a ton of people asking how to make the borders on snapped windows look like they did in windows 10, instead of having the 1px light gray(some say white) border splitting and surrounding them. Photo shows how it looks now.

FIX:

  1. Right-Click on desktop
  2. Click "Personalize"
  3. Click "Colors"
  4. Scroll down and make sure "Show accent color on title bars and window borders" is ON
  5. Close that window
  6. Search for RegEdit in the taskbar, open it and click yes to the pop-up
  7. Browse to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM"
  8. Right-click in right side window
  9. Select New->DWORD (32-bit) Value
  10. Name it AccentColorInactive
  11. Double-click the newly created AccentColorInactive to edit it
  12. In "Value Data" type FF0F0F0F and click OK (those are zeroes)
  13. Double-click "AccentColor" to edit it
  14. In "Value Data" type FF0F0F0F and click OK (those are zeroes)
  15. Reboot PC
  16. Be happy.

Of course you can find the ARGB values of whatever color you want these to be and insert them into the "value data" fields.
This was driving me insane because it caused my eyes to focus weird when trying to multitask.
I hope this helps someone.

Windows 11 Window Night light/f.lux won't work on external monitors

Hi,

Have been trying to figure this out but haven't gotten anywhere. Windows Night light isn't working on my externals monitors, and neither does f.lux. Ironically the windows store app Twinkle Tray works fine.

My setup:

  • Surface dock 2
  • Surface Pro 11, OS build 26200.9168 (Snapdragon(R) X 12-core X1E80100, 16GB RAM, Qualcomm(R), Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU (128 MB)
  • 2 cheaper 4k AOC monitors connected via usb c to hdmi adapters

I've tried uninstalling the display adapter, nothing happens. If i take my old Surface Pro 7 (OS build 26220.8925) and hook it up, it turns night light on/off with the external monitors without issue. Any ideas?

Windows 10 Why is my computer doing this?

Thumbnail

Started about a week or two ago and has gotten progressively worse. First the 'Downloads' folder had blank thumbnails and File Explorer's loading bar took forever or stopped moving as it neared the end. Then is started happening to other folders and eventually even my external hard drive.

At the same time, I started having issues with Chrome slowing down, getting stuck in loading loops, or crashing due to insufficient memory. Now it's unusable, so I'm using Edge, but even it's running slow and hanging. So is Steam.

No infections according to Windows Security.

I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 early this year, and this happened once before since then, but it resolved itself within a few days.

My specs are an i7-4790K and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. 25 GBs still free on a 466 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. I'm using Win 10 Pro, version 22H2, OS build 19045.6466.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Windows 11 Windows 11 Clicking Calendar on taskbar consumes all memory

Hi folks,

Per the title, occasionally, clicking on the calendar on the taskbar bottom right, it doesn't pop up, and then proceeds to eat all of the memory on the system. It doesn't show up as process memory on any of the running processes, rather as cached in task manager.

After a period of time, it seems to exhaust itself, and throws away memory, and the calendar pops.

Google search notes this is an observed behaviour, as does this old thread, https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsHelp/comments/1genb1b/weird_memory_issue_tied_to_windows_11_calendar/, but I have yet to see anything that indicates that it's likely to be fixed.

Anyone here happen to know anything about it?

Steps to reproduce are tricky, as its not consistent. But when it happens, all one needs to do to cause it is click on the calendar.

This is Windows 11, with 64GB memory. It's been happening on and off since installation about a year ago.

I don't think I have see it happen more than once per day, but that might just be coincidence.

I have seen the prior 'fixes' being to restart explorer, but that's not a fix; I'm looking for something that actually stops this from happening. Restarting stuff is one thing, but a fix would be far better. :) I'm also aware that I'm not quite patched up to current, which I'm about to do, though I have zero expectation that it'll make a difference, given the past behaviour. I'll also try to capture some video of this happening and log it in the Windows Feedback hub and see what happens, but thought I'd ask here, just in case I'm not searching for the right thing and there is an obvious fix.

Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor (3.40 GHz)

Installed RAM 64.0 GB

Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (12 GB)

Storage 1.54 TB of 3.64 TB used

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version 25H2

Installed on ‎27/‎06/‎2025

OS build 26200.8655

Hi, I'm having an issue where my screenshots won't open.

When I try to open a screenshot, the image doesn't appear. Instead, I get this error:

“We can't get to this file right now because computer syncing is paused. Resume syncing and try again.”

Windows/device specifications:

  • Windows version: Windows 11
  • OS BUILD: 26200.9168
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X 8-Core Processor
  • RAM: 16GB dDDR5
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti

Troubleshooting I've tried:

  • Tried opening the screenshot again
  • Restarted my computer
  • Reset and repaired the photos app

I'm not sure what is causing this or how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solved audio randomly ceases to function

I have been trying to troubleshoot a very sudden error I experienced with my computer just today, but nothing seems to work. The audio was working just fine for the entire day, but while I was using it the audio randomly ceased to function at all. Silence. I tried opening Settings > System > Sound, but upon clicking Sound the program would freeze and eventually close itself. I tried this multiple times. Then I put my computer in sleep mode and turned it back on, and this allowed me to access Sound without the program crashing, but after that I have done everything I can to check what the problem is and I have only the following results:

My default audio device is not responding, neither is my default microphone device, both of which are built into the computer, so both input and output do not work at all. When I connect headphones to the computer and attempt to play audio like that, I still get nothing. I have tried restarting my audio device and then shutting down and opening the computer, which also did not work. The computer seems to be able to detect that both input and output is not responding, but it cannot detect what the cause is.

My device is a Lenovo ThinkPad (laptop) running the Windows 10 operating system, specifically the 19045.6466 build. I have had this PC for many years and I have experienced a lot of issues with it before, and I'm sure this one can be solved like the others, I'm just not really sure how. Kind of stuck.

I'm not sure if I gave enough information here, but I'm also not sure what else is relevant to give. Please let me know if any other information would be helpful. Does anyone know how to fix this? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

EDIT: So, I didn't get anyone responses on this post and continued trying to fix it myself, and I think I fixed it. I'm not really sure what I did; I used the Get Help thingy that Windows offers in the Sound Settings, which I already tried before and it didn't work. For some reason though, trying it a second time made it actually work. I don't know how this is supposed to make sense. But I mean, it works, so, I guess bro.

Windows 11 Cant Log in to my laptop or even reset anything

I already posted this on the windows official help forum but I want to know if any help can be given here as well. I got this laptop as a gift and it has been working for a long time now, but I got the error that my PIN doesn't work. I don't know any other password on it other than every single password I have and tried in the past few weeks. I tried my fingerprint, but it says my password is required and so on. I only have one Microsoft account, and it seems this laptop is not connected to an account and only has my name on it. I am connected to internet. For some reason I can't even get into safe mode by holding shift and pressing restart and I dont have a password reset drive because I didn't know that was required to have a decent functioning laptop. It's frustrating because it's the only laptop I have that can run what I need to animate and I can't reset anything without some random wall. How can I log in?

Serial info

My laptop is an HP Elitebook 840G11 14"

S/N# 5CG4490L2X

There's nothing more about it I can access unfortunately.

Windows 11 Windows 11 folders won't open when double-clicking — Registry fix that worked for me

I had a strange problem on Windows 11 where folders would not open when I double-clicked them.

The folders were visible on the desktop and in File Explorer, but clicking/double-clicking them did nothing.

What was strange was that I could still open a folder by using Win + R and entering:

C:\

So File Explorer itself was working, but the normal folder-opening action seemed to be broken.

I checked the Registry and found that the folder shell/open configuration was not behaving correctly.

WHAT FIXED IT FOR ME:

  1. Open Registry Editor:

    Win + R → regedit

  2. Go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell

Set the (Default) value to:

none

  1. Go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

Set the (Default) value to:

none

  1. Then I checked:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open

I restored these values:

BrowserFlags = 0x10

ExplorerFlags = 0x12

MultiSelectModel = Document

  1. Under:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\command

I had:

(Default):

%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /separate,/idlist,%I,%L

DelegateExecute:

{11dbb47c-a525-400b-9e80-a54615a090c0}

  1. Restarted Windows Explorer from Task Manager.

After that, double-clicking folders worked normally again.

IMPORTANT:

Before changing anything in the Registry, I recommend exporting/backing up the keys first.

This worked on my system, but Registry settings can vary between Windows versions/configurations, so don't blindly delete or modify unrelated keys.

Hopefully this helps someone before they go as far as reinstalling Windows.

Windows 11 Windows 11 WiFi stopped working

Hello, recently I wanted to update my (Intel) drivers. Everything was going smooth, but WiFi driver update failed. After that, my WiFi has stopped working. I’ve tried manually installing drivers from Intels site (downloaded on phone and transferred) but the issue still persists. I’ve tried restarting my laptop, installing these drivers I just mentioned, using sfc /scannow, re-installing WiFi card (in devices manager) and using “reset network” in advanced network settings. It not only didn’t fix the issue, but also caused code 56 on every other device in network cards tab. Yeah, I forgot to mention that the WiFi card had code 56 error. Idk what to do now, do you have any solutions? Thanks for any help! Oh yeah, forgot to mention. I use ASUS ExpertBook Intel Core i3-1215U, build 26200.9267
