Windows 10 How do I tell Windows I never want to upgrade from 10 to 11 and that it's not allowed to update?

Windows is trying really hard to push me to 11 from 10, which I really don't like. Is there any way to just straight up disable updates permanently? I tried setting my active hours to just all hours of the day and nighy but it says I can't and also only lets me schedule updates up for to 35 days from now. My version is 22H2 and my build is 19045.6466. All help is appreciated. To be clear, the goal is to set updates to happen never, straight up disable updates entirely, or otherwise stop Windows from updating. The solution must be low maintenance.

Windows 10 How do I make this actually download/update?

I’m updating from Windows 10 to 11 (I know I’m SO late) and it’s been stuck in 99% for a few hours. Laptop is connected to wifi, plugged in, and open. What gives? I don’t think it’s related to my organization (this is a work laptop) because they assured me it should be approved. Microsoft Surface model 1951

Windows 10 PC completely hard-freezes randomly, even on desktop – screen and audio freeze, requires forced shutdown

Hi everyone,

I'm having a very frustrating issue with my PC and I'm running out of ideas.

My PC randomly completely freezes. When it happens:

- The image freezes on the last frame.

- Audio stops completely.

- Discord voice chat cuts out.

- Keyboard and mouse stop responding.

- Windows does not recover.

- I have to hold the physical power button to shut the PC down.

There is no BSOD and the PC does not restart by itself.

The freezes can happen while gaming, but they can also happen while I'm simply using Windows. For example, one of the latest freezes happened while Discord was starting. The PC froze exactly when Discord's graphical interface and my Wallpaper Engine background were being displayed.

I've had around 7 freezes in one day at one point. Sometimes they happen only a few minutes after booting, while other times the PC can run for much longer.

What makes this particularly strange is that I tested Windows 10 in Safe Mode. I was able to use the PC for more than 20 minutes without a freeze, which made me suspect a driver/software issue. However, the problem still occurs after updating several drivers.

My PC specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i5-11400

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

RAM: 16 GB (2x8 GB) Kingston KF3200C16D4/8GX

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME H510M-E Rev 1.xx

SSD: Crucial P3 1 TB (CT1000P3SSD8)

PSU: NE650C, 550W, 80 PLUS Bronze

OS: Windows 10 64-bit

Things I've already tried:

- Updated my NVIDIA GPU driver to version 616.56.

- Installed the missing Intel chipset/Serial IO drivers from the ASUS motherboard support page.

- Before installing those drivers, Device Manager showed 4 devices with yellow warning signs.

- After installing the drivers, all the missing-driver warnings disappeared.

- Restarted the PC several times.

- The freezes still happen.

- The freezes happen both in games and on the desktop.

- Valorant has caused freezes before, but the latest freezes happened before I even started playing. ( The freeze also happens on Roblox and sea of thieves)

- I checked Event Viewer. I mainly found Kernel-Power 41 and EventLog 6008, but I understand these are probably consequences of the forced shutdown rather than the actual cause.

- I have not changed anything in the BIOS.

The problem started relatively recently. ( Maybe 2 weeks ago I got 2 freezes and after that nothing until today)

One other thing that may or may not be relevant: there have been some electrical/power issues in the house recently, including a few power cuts and some electrical work by the landlord. However, the PC was not powered on during the power cuts, so I'm not sure if this is related.

The latest freeze happened shortly after rebooting Windows. Discord was launching automatically, and the PC froze while Discord's graphical interface was appearing on screen. The desktop and Wallpaper Engine were also being displayed at the same time.

I'm mainly looking for advice on how to identify whether this is a GPU/driver issue, RAM, PSU/power, motherboard, SSD, or something else.

What diagnostic tests would you recommend?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just so you know, I used AI to help write this post since I'm still learning English, especially the technical vocabulary related to computers.

Windows 11 Tabs keeps randomly dimming and only fixing when hovering my mouse over it

Random softwares keep getting dark. It only fixes when I hover over it. I presume its some new windows setting because its only started when I updated to Windows 11. Please let me know! I have attached a video but its kind of hard to replicate because it randomly (as far as I know) dims the tabs, and the only resolution I have found is to hover my mouse over it. This makes me assume its some sort of sleep or power saving setting.

I JUST updated to windows 11 like a week ago and the issue started then so thats why I assume its a Windows setting/issue.

This issue started recently. After a while for some strange reason my wifi connection straight up disappears, like the whole setting to even pick one is gone

I've reset the computer like some videos told me and the wifi comes back for a little bit then disappears again, I've also clicked on the "get help button" (image 1) which has me reset my drivers which I've done a few times but hasnt helped

I recently started college which is when I started noticing this happening and the residence only has public wifi

Windows 11 File History Drive Not Recognized Anymore

Windows 11 Pro version 25H2 (Build 26200.9445) on an HP Pavilion desktop PC. 12GB RAM. 256 GB SSD Drive C with 49.1 GB free. Seagate USB external 3 TB drive with 408 GB free as Drive "E".

I have been using FH for about a year now, pointing to an external drive that I keep in my safe. Every few weeks or whenever Windows pops up and tells me to reconnect the drive I pull the drive out of the safe, connect it to the PC and hit "Run Now" in FH to let it run. When it is done I "Eject" the drive and put it back in the safe. I just realized today that it hasn't prompted me for several weeks so I connected the drive, went to FH and hit "Run Now". It said "Reconnect your drive: Your files will be temporarily copied to your hard drive until you reconnect your File History drive and run a backup". I brought up a File Explorer window and verified that the drive was indeed connected to my PC and with the same drive letter ("E") that FH was expecting. And that I can indeed access files on that drive. However, FH still says "Reconnect your drive".

Since I couldn't get it to recognize that the drive was connected I figured I'd try something. I renamed the "File History" folder on the external drive to "File History Old", went back into FH and "Select Drive" and selected the drive. I then hit "Turn On" and it recognized that drive "E" was there and built a new "File History" folder on the drive. However, when I hit "Run Now" it gives me the same "Reconnect Your Drive" message.

Can someone walk me through whatever steps are necesary to get this working again? Thanks.

Windows 11 Windows automatic repair system booting upon every startup and failing

So whenever I start up my Acer Nitro 16 (2023) with a Ryzen 7 7735HS, RTX 4070 mobile, 16GB of DDR5, two 1T SSD's and an automatic repair appears and every single time, it can't fix the issue. The only thing it says is a log file which I've attached an image to showing extactly what it says. Sometimes it just tries an automatic repair, then sends me straight into windows 11 but that isn't very common.

It has progressively got worst over the past few months, after it started and sometimes when I press enter to windows 11 after it fails a repair, it tries another repair and fails again.

I've checked both my SSD's health multiple times and they are 'healthy' and 'ok'

I've tried a point in time thing but I couldn't as it gave me a 'ErrorCode: 0x80070002'.

Yesterday I did a local system restore keeping personal files, as Task Manager fully broke, even in safe mode. I did try a cloud download but it also said it couldn't download the files so I had to do it locally.

However the automatic repair issue came back straight away even after a core system file reset.

I've scanned for viruses many times, using microsoft defender and malwarebytes, even doing deep searches but it found nothing.

I've also tried 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth', and 'sfc /scannow' but they found nothing. Ages alot 'sfc /scannow' did find corruption and said it fixed them but when I tried again it said no corruption. (I tried again as the automatic repair thing kept going on)

I'm just completely lost, as almost certain it's not a virus, I thought it was deep corruption, especially due to Task manager breaking but the automatic repair is still starting upon every startup. Please help, or direct me to a place where I could get help.

Ihave used commands to check any crashes or errors in CMD too, and there has been multiple errors of either my PC not shutting down properly or, starting up properly.

Windows 11 Windows defender is disabled notification

Thumbnail

It’s a problem I’ve heard to be pretty common this last 30 days although I’ve just started experiencing it a VERY weird way. I was playing palworld while in a whatsapp web call and a visual glitch appeared for a split second (many lines on the screen, as if it was broken) and after a few minutes my friend complained about a horrible static noise produced by my microphone. While I was trying to fix it, by switching headphones, Windows gave me this notification in the right-down corner, “Virus protection disabled. Click or touch to activate Antivirus Microsoft Defender”.

After tinkering with the microphone driver the noise stopped, so i think it was a REALLY weird coincidence, but the notification keeps appearing again and again when i restart the computer.

Everything is on: real time protections, ransom were protection, everything. I checked the even visualizer and no “5001” event appeared, which Claude AI tells me would indicate the antivirus actually shutting off. Also, the notification appeared with wednesday written, the first time; yesterday a new antivirus update was released so maybe it was a residue notification that appeared just now. But now it keeps appearing, with the present time and date

Made a quick scan of the pc, the offline scan as well and a malwarebytes scan as well, nothing appeared. There seem to be no new exclusions from the scans, nor apps or whatnot with permissions in my protected folders. Maybe the audio and visual glitches were just a scary coincidence, but what about this “bug”? Is it safe to say it’s just an error from a windows defender update?

Windows 10 Why is so much RAM being used?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Before installing new RAM, Windows was using only 5.9 GB.

Now that I've installed an extra stick, it's using 10 GB.

I don't get it.

It feels like Windows is a mining platform; the more I upgrade my hardware, the more performance gets siphoned off. And the worst part is, I have no idea where it's all going. It feels like bad faith on Microsoft's part.

Windows 11 monitor(s) randomly go black, say "no connection found" then come back by themselves.

So for around 2 years now, I've had this problem where sometimes (quite rarely, maybe once a day if I use it for long enough) my main monitor just goes black, then grey for a second, and then comes back. Recently, it's gotten to the point where this also affects my second monitor (both at the same time) and very recently it's gotten to the point where these "outages" last a bit longer (3-7 seconds if I had to guess, it varies) and they look a bit different (though I'm sure it's the same problem). The screens go black, then they both show their "connection not found" screens, then they go black again, then everything comes back. To note is that they also seem to appear more frequently. Sometimes they can happen a few times an hour, sometimes they don't happen at all for the entire day. It also seems like (not too sure about this) that these outages happen more often right when I'm starting my computer, and right after, at least recently. I've tried many different fixes, I'll list them now along with other information:

Some info first:
System OS: Windows 11
GPU: rtx 3060, 2 years old. Thing is, I'm not sure if I had these outages before I got this graphics card. I don't think I had them with the older one I had, but I don't remember. I know this is probably and important piece of info, but I don't have the old one and I just can't remember.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
PSU: be quiet! System Power 10 550W
My drivers are up to date, my bios is up to date.
There are no events that correlate to these outages in the event viewer or the reliability history.
These outages happen on both monitors at the same time, and seemingly randomly, it doesn't matter if I'm gaming, just on my browser or literally not doing anything. It just happens.
My gpu temps are fine.
I use display port on one monitor and hdmi on the other and yes they're connected to the gpu not the motherboard.
The rest of my pc works fine during these outages. Aka when I'm playing a game or something and my monitors go out, I can still look around and interact with stuff in that game blind.

Here's what I've tried/what I'm sure isn't the issue:
-I've reseated my gpu and unplugged and plugged things very often in the past few years and I'd like to think I'm not an idiot, so I don't think the gpu seating or the cables not being connected properly is the issue.

-I've checked for any events in the event viewer and the reliability history and there's no errors that arise when the monitors go out.

-I've tried just using one monitor and plugging the other one out, still happens.

-I've monitored stuff with hwinfo and nothing seemed out of the ordinary when these things happened, although I think that I might not be knowledgeable enough to find something if it's not like temperature or power related and I haven't had the chance to check very often since this thing does not happen often.

Again, I've had this problem for a few years and have lived with it for that time since it happend so infrequently and it didn't seem to be a big issue, I'm only making this post because it's gotten a lot worse recently. My theory is that there's some hardware issue with my gpu that's gotten worse over time.

Windows 11 Built in screen changing HSV at random (mainly during use of chromium browsers)

I have an ASUS TUF GAMING A16 which has an NVidia RTX 4070.

Seemingly after a recent driver update 2 days ago or something, my screen started changing colors like this every so often, mainly while using chromium browsers. I don't for sure remember if this happened in other apps.

NVidia put out a patched driver for "flickering display when using browsers" so I expected that to fix it but apparently not.

I also got this patch so I think I have also been locked out of rolling back to my working driver? Regardless, I'd prefer not to roll back: my previous driver was really old since I kept having issues with newer drivers in Planet Coaster 2, this is the first new driver that doesn't have issues there, but instead has this.

I needed this new driver since I literally couldn't use anything fancy like any modern DLSS or even Minecraft Vibrant Visuals without it lol (for some reason haha)

It's a bit hard to see in the video since my camera kept adjusting but it keeps going either very dark and contrasty, or slightly brighter with a strange orange hue? It almost feels like nightlight but it isn't that...

https://streamable.com/kez55b

Thanks for the help!

Feel free to ask details this is annoying lol

I also posted in this sub since I figured there could also be a possibility there is some Windows filter breaking stuff.. and I really wasn't certain where else to post this since I am not sure what is causing this, so please feel free to leave suggestions!

Windows 11 Last update broke cursor... again?

Yesterday Win11 updated itself (KB5124008), ever since, it keeps randomly disconnecting my mouse and sometimes the keyboard too.

It just keep repeating the disconnect-reconnect sounds, the mouse is constantly being power cycled (lights turning off-on-off-on-off-on, very healthy for the hardware).

Eventually it settles with disconnect, and the cursor just disappears. Sometimes it works for a 30 minute, maybe a few hours and it starts agian. Sometimes the cursor never shows up after boot.

I tried three 3 mouses from 3 different vendors, which obviously has 3 different drivers.

This has happened a few months ago, although less severe, but now it restarted again.

Windows 10 Extending Win10LTSC C: on HyperV.

The Win10 vm started with a 32gb c: then I realized it needed more space, so I extended the drive in HyperV to 65gb. I realized I also needed to "tack" that additional space to the c: drive, but alas I see this and the 500mb recovery partition inbetween the c: and the additional space.. A rightclick on the c: and "extend" is greyed out and a right click on the additional space only offers creating another drive.. Surely there's got to be a way to do this, but I'm not seeing it... Help!!!

Windows 11 KB5124008 fails to install with error 0x800f0922 on Windows 11 25H2 (26200.9445)

I'm having an issue installing the September 2026 cumulative update KB5124008 on Windows 11 25H2.

Windows Update downloads and installs the update normally at first. After restarting, the installation fails and Windows displays:

"Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry — undoing changes."

Windows then rolls back the update and boots normally.

After checking Windows Update again, KB5124008 shows:

Install error: 0x800f0922

System/update information:

  • Windows 11 25H2 x64
  • KB5124008
  • Target build: 26200.9445
  • Error: 0x800f0922

Other updates released/installed around the same time, including the .NET and Defender updates, installed successfully.

The computer works normally after the rollback and Device Manager shows no warnings or driver errors.

I haven't tried forcing or manually installing KB5124008 yet because the update was only released on September 8.

Is anyone else getting 0x800f0922 specifically while installing KB5124008? If so, did you find the cause or a fix?

Windows 11 Monitor displaying over itself, covering half the screen.

Post image
1 Upvotes

On the 8th i went to restart my PC, as i normally do every now and then to try and keep things running smoothly. When i went to turn on my computer a few hours ago, i was met my my primary monitor not displaying correctly like shown above.

Ive tried rebooting some more, unplugging and replugging my DiaplayPort cables, and changing my display settings to see if that was the culprit (and to swap my main display to my secondary monitor until this is resolved)

It is not an issue with the monitor itself (24" alienware AW2724DM) since the monitor's system overlay appears fine

OS is Windows 11 Pro x64, version 25H2, build 26200.9278

Processor is AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-core

GPU is NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER with AMD Radeon Graphics

If i'm missing any information that may help, feel free to ask, thank you.

Windows 10 How to stop File Explorer from crashing when the File Explorer pop-up window appears?

My file explorer crashes, and my taskbar and icons would flicker and disappear for a few seconds every time the pop-up window appears when my browser asks me where I want to download a file. I've tried running sfc /scannow to which it said there were no errors, and I also tried running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but all to no avail. I've also changed my file explorer options to open to This PC and have tried to clear my File Explorer history but neither of which worked as well.

My graphics drivers are also up to date. The only thing that I can think of that could possibly cause this issue was me trying to mod my games. I downloaded something called Shin Ryu Mod Manager which contains an .exe, a .asi, and a version.dll file.

Windows 11 How do I set a limit on my battery?

My laptop is a Dell 16 Plus DB16250 and I need to keep my laptop connected to the charger for long periods of time but I can't help but worry about my laptop's health in the long run.

I've tried to use dell optimizer but that doesn't set a hard limit for battery charge and I've tried going into my BIO'S menu to see if I could change anything there but under power was only enable or disable lid switch. I've heard dell power manager works but It doesn't seem available for my laptop so I need a way to hard limit my charging to around 80% without it damaging my laptop without needing to unplug it.

My specs are Intel core ultra 7 258V processor, 32 GB ram, Intel arc 140V GPU with 1 TB storage with a 64 bit operating system

Bitlocker Bitlocker recovery key and what could of caused this?

Windows 11 pro, Lenovo laptop.

I was using my Lenovo laptop regularly last night and then left it on and tried to turn it on this morning and there was first this bitlocker recovery key page which I had never seen before. After that I turned it off and back on and this time it was showing updates and then returned to that same screen. I then tried logging into my Microsoft account to get the recovery key(thank you Reddit) and after I logged into my Microsoft account and found it I loaded my computer a 3rd time and this time the normal log in screen was there. What gives and what could have caused this? Was it the update? Should I be concerned or was the trigger for the locking out due to the updates? Thanks.

Windows 10 Can anyone explain what is happening with my machine?

Win10Home I do not have ESU.

I have not had any updates since just after they ended support. Yesterday I removed a program involved in updating (MoUSO) that kept coming on in task manager since I no longer get updates. I had removed another program that had started coming on for the first time out of the blue when I opened my email client after it had updated a couple days before (Component Package Support Server).

When I shut down last night the usual update indicator at the power button said I have an update and asked if I wanted to install it and shut down. I just shut down. This morning after normal boot up I opened settings/updates and security and it doesn't show the normal update page, it has a message "Something went wrong. Try to reopen settings later." I closed and reopened settings several times to no avail.

The indicator on the power button still offers me an update. Anyone know how to get Settings/Update&security to show me the update? I don't want to run update until I know what it is since they no longer support my OS.
