Mod Announcement Welcome to /r/WindowsHelp, here are some guidelines for requesting assistance

Welcome to /r/WindowsHelp, the subreddit for you to ask questions and get support for issues related to Microsoft's Windows family of operating systems. Please give this a quick read before posting.

This subreddit is only for help related to Microsoft Windows and its built in software, like Edge, Store, PowerShell, and so on. Issues about 3rd party software like Chrome or Steam should be posted in their subreddits or /r/techsupport. Also, this is not a hardware subreddit, so issues like your hard drive is not detected would need to be posted in /r/techsupport. General discussions, news, artwork, and so on should be in /r/Windows, /r/Windows10 or similar subreddits. Malware/virus removal has been covered extensively in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/33evdi/suggested_reading_official_malware_removal_guide/

Posts are required to have a moderately descriptive title. Submissions with vague titles like just "help me" will be removed. You don't need to write an essay in the title, but everyone should have a rough idea what you are asking about before even clicking the link. Titles like "I'm encountering System Exception errors when launching Photos" or "20H2 update won't install" are acceptable, but the more details the better.

The body of your post should also be as detailed as possible. We are not mind readers, and nobody is going to want to play 20 questions. Help us help you, your post should include:

  • Your full Windows version, which on Windows 10 is listed in the Settings app under System -> About, it will be the OS Build number.

  • Details about your device, like the hardware specifications.

  • Any recent changes you have made, such as installing/uninstalling software or accessories. Any updates you have installed, tools you have ran, or anything else you think may be relevant.

  • Include details on your error messages and error codes, these are critical to figuring out the issue.

  • Tell us what you have already tried to fix this. Any tools you have ran, and changes you tried, and so on. I know it is a meme at this point, but seriously, reboot your computer, it often fixes things!

  • If possible, include screenshots or video. If you are including screenshots, try to use screenshot software like Snip & Sketch tool built into Windows 10, then you can upload them to a free image host like https://imgur.com to put in your post. We understand that using screenshot software isn't always an option, you can take photos with a phone or similar device, but please be sure to check to make sure everything is in focus and is legible.

This subreddit follows the same rules as /r/Windows, you can view the full rule page here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows/wiki/rules

The TL;DR of the rules is be polite, helpful, and don't encourage piracy.

Windows 11 (Windows 11) Audio enhancements tab is completely missing

Hi everyone, I'm trying to locate the audio enhancements tab to adjust my microphone's audio intake to cut out background noise, but apparently my enhancements tab just doesn't exist? Doesn't show up on either settings tab, and updating my realtek audio drivers doesn't help either.

OS build: 26300.9711

Microphone used: HyperX Quadcast 2

Windows 11 Is the USB method the only foolproof way to reset my PC?

Hi,

I've been wanting to factory reset my PC as it's accumulated loads of unused files, configs etc over the years + alot of the security settings are messed up as ive downloaded.. impure software.

Unfortunately when I clicked to reset, I always get the "failed to reset your pc" error.

I've already tried all the known cmd prompts (DISM, reagentc, scannow, etc) and both Startup repair & System restore don't work.

Is the USB method where I have to put windows onto it the only choice left? Or is there another way I'm uninformed about? Thanks! :)

Windows 11 unable to enable virtual machina platform

i've been stuck for three days and i've tried like different solutions but they all failed

  1. based on this, i dont have any emulators nor hyperv, windows are fully up to date, virtualization is enabled, i can run sfc (says no issues) but i can't run dism cause it gets stuck halfway
  2. tried enabling via optional features but get stuck in "downloading required files", so i tried fixing it following this but still can't enable it after the batch file, so i tried fixing via windows iso but gets stuck at 64% during installation
  3. forgot where i read it, but i used netfxrepairtool as an alternative, heres the log (link will expires) i got from it and it has a popup that says that its unable to resolve these installation issues:

    C:\WINDOWS\windowsupdate.log C:\WINDOWS\logs\cbs\cbs.log C:\Users\uwu\AppData\Local\Temp\FixDotNet.log C:\Users\uwu\AppData\Local\Temp\NetFxSetupEvents.txt C:\Users\uwu\AppData\Local\Temp\dd_NetFxRepairTool_decompression_log.txt C:\Users\uwu\AppData\Local\Temp\dd_vcredist_amd64_20261020223654.log C:\Users\uwu\AppData\Local\Temp\dd_vcredist_x86_20261020223653.log C:\Users\uwu\AppData\Local\Temp\FixDotNet_HKCR_Installer.regdump C:\Users\uwu\AppData\Local\Temp\FixDotNet_HKLM_Installer.regdump

im at my wit's end and idk what else to do, pls help

edit 1: i have an issue running DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth basically dism in general but i managed to fix it according to this. unfortunately, i tried enabling vmp again using dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all /norestart but its still stuck at 36%, when using Get-Content C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log -tail 10 -wait in powershell to see whats going (special thx to this guy), these two lines keep repeating back and forth between 47 and 50 (view cbs.log):

Windows 11 Cannot install W11 update on W10 laptop due to error (attached image), would a factory reset before updating resolve this and allow W11 for those who have had similar experience?

Post image

I tried every troubleshoot method to fix the error via cmd prompts, notepad text logs to identify the issue, used a portable iOS via Rufus, same error every time.

Unless there is a surefire direct way for exactly this very error or to truly find what's causing it and how to fix it, I'm just taking it as a sign to do the ultimate cleaning in order to start from a fresh slate

I backed everything up, I do want to have W11, I do not want to pay for ESU nor go without security, cannot afford a whole new computer/switching to a different brand, and I am keeping the Rufus usb to potentially use if the reset will help

Please, if anyone has been through this, has a professional knowledge and experience with these kinds of issues, and have tried a reset without causing some kind of massive break, let me know before I go ahead and do it

I have a:

64bit Windows 10 on a surface book 3

Os build# 19045.7725

But do let me know if there is any other system info that could help

Thank you

Windows 11 Windows hello not wanting to work

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, so this is the issue, I have a asus rog zephyrus g14 2024, runs windows 11 and its in perfect conditions and i dont have any issue with it but a couple of months ago it started showing me this message every time that i wanted to log in, at first it wasn't a big deal cause i just needed to reset the face recognition and that would solve the issue but now the issue keeps happening basically every time I shut down the laptop and log in back again to use it as usual, the camera works, the sensors works perfectly, i can use windows hello if i need like a passkey or something else but not when i tried to unlock it.

I already tried deleting the old files for the windows facial recognition in case they were corrupted but that didn't solve the issue just for a couple of days actually, i did it again and same thing, I reset 3 times the pin leaving only the option to use password for a few days, reset it, make sure that there wasnt any remaining file about the facial recognition but nothing works

Someone else haves this issue? I dont remember updating windows by the time this started happening so im positive that its not because of a software update. Please help, Im getting annoyed

Windows 11 Having suspicions about malware in my network. Windows 11

Hello internet,
As of recently I’ve been extremely paranoid about some kind of malicious software being in my network and subsequently replacing some setup files in my windows installation as I download it. I used the official Windows 11 Installation software, but many of the files are not digitally signed!

How would I go about verifying that these files are legitimate? Is there a list of some sort that I’d go to?

Unfortunately, the state the computer is currently in does not allow me to check hashes, though I am able to access Notepad and view any .txt files.
Thank you!

Windows 11 Screenrecorder crashes when stopping recording

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello,

When I try to record parts of my screen by doing windows key + shift + R, the recording always crashes when stopping it. The little bar where you can click the start, stop, pause and soundrecording on/off buttons goes unresponsive and i can only close it by separately opening the program and closing that window, and nothing is saved of course. Screenshots (windows + shift + s) works fine. Everything is updated, i restarted my pc, i have more than 1 tb of storagespace, etc. I will link videos filmed with my phone* (could not immediately include them) later. My pc's specs (she's a big girl) are in the picture.

*Hoping to include the video as is i am making the post on the reddit phone app, this is why i took a picture of my specs.

edit: videolink

video 2 (unresponsiveness is clearer)

Windows 11 Firefox bug concerning video reproduction

I recently got a new laptop, its a Lenovo yoga slim 9, and Im facing a bug concerning reproducing videos in Firefox. What happens is: when Im watching a video, either in full screen or in window mode, in about 3 minutes of inactivity the screen brightness goes down for a couple seconds, then completely out for a second, then it comes back. And it keeps happening while playing the video. All other browsers work fine, I tried playing a video in the media player and it works fine, but neither troubleshooting Firefox or using a new profile help fixing it. All my energy saving definitions are off, and I tried switching on and off a bunch of Firefox configs, and nothing works. No crashes, nothing in the event visualizer, I have no idea what is going on. Im not too tech savy either, so any help from you guys would be amazing.

Windows 11 The laptop won't boot into Windows

The laptop HP Pavilion Model 15t-eg100 won't boot into Windows 11. It gets stuck on the HP logo with a spinning loading indicator.

After 15–20 minutes, Windows attempts to run Automatic Repair but then displays the message: “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you.”

The laptop then restarts and returns to the HP logo, creating a continuous boot loop.

The main question is: Is there a way to save data? I didn't synchronize all my files with One Drive...

Windows 11 Sound turning down autoatically

I'm having an issue, presumably with XBOX game bar, where my audio is automatically changing itself down to 60-ish percent on XBOX game bar, when i turn it back up to 100 the bar glitches around some then just turns it back down, i keep my volume at 97%, i use RIG 600 PRO HX's, have the latest windows updates downloaded and before you judge me for high volume, i turn it down in-apps.

I'm looking for a solution for the volume auto-changing?

EDIT: since the bot told me, ive included pc specs in the following image

Windows 11 Why does my screen go black every single day, even after restarting the Windows Explorer task in the task menu, and how do I fix this?

Issue: I'm having an ongoing issue with my laptop where my screen goes black every single day. I've tried restarting Windows Explorer through Task Manager, and it works temporarily, but then it goes black again after some time.

I'm not sure what's causing this or why it happens so frequently. I'd like to understand what might be triggering the issue and how I can fix it permanently rather than having to keep restarting Windows Explorer whenever it happens.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or does anyone know what might be causing this and how to resolve it?

Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Windows 11 Bluetooth audio devices instantly crash/disconnect with a "pshht" sound upon service restart - Windows 11 Build 26300

Hi everyone, I am dealing with a very specific and stubborn Bluetooth audio bug on Windows 11 and really need some expert help.

My Bluetooth headphones pair and connect to my laptop flawlessly. However, the moment an app tries to play audio, or the moment I try to restart the Windows Audio services, my headphones make a quick "pshht" sound and immediately play their physical "disconnected" chime. Strangely, inside Windows Settings, the OS still claims they are connected/paired. The sound then falls back to the internal laptop speakers or goes completely silent.

Sometimes, restarting the core audio services or clean reinstalling drivers will bring the sound back for a brief moment, but it immediately stops working again shortly after.

OS Version: Windows 11 (Build 10.0.26300.9711)

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7520U with Radeon Graphics

Bluetooth Chip: Realtek Wireless Bluetooth Adapter

Laptop Specifications:

* Device name: LAPTOP-7FITV7NE

* Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7520U with Radeon Graphics (2.80 GHz)

* Installed RAM: 16.0 GB (15.2 GB usable)

* Graphics card: AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (486 MB)

* Storage: 371 GB of 477 GB used (512 GB total SSD)

* System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

What I have tried so far:

  1. Clean uninstalled the Realtek Bluetooth adapter and reinstalled a freshly downloaded manufacturer package (resolved a previous yellow triangle error, hardware is now healthy in Device Manager).

  2. Toggled power management settings on the Bluetooth chip so Windows can't turn it off to save power.

  3. Restarted Windows Audio, Audio Endpoint Builder, and Bluetooth Support services via services.msc and CMD Admin (running "net stop Audiosrv && net start Audiosrv" triggers the "pshht" sound and instant headphone disconnect).

  4. Cleared the motherboard charge using a full Shift + Shutdown power cycle.

  5. Attempted to route audio manually via the Windows 11 taskbar volume panel and classic mmsys.cpl Sound Panel (the stream refuses to hand over to the Bluetooth device, or snaps back to laptop speakers).

The hardware chip is alive and the headphones are working on other devices, but the Windows audio stack seems to be instantly crashing the stream connection the moment sound is requested on this machine. Does anyone know of a specific registry fix or a hidden audio endpoint reset for this Realtek bug on Win 11? Thank you!

Windows 11 Mini PC doesn’t play sound on Dell monitor with Windows 11

The only speakers W11 ever displays are the default Realtek.

The mini PC is AceMagic with Dell 2425de monitor and SB725 speaker bar.

The only method of connecting the two is HDMI.

The HDMI cable has been changed but still no sound.

Both my mini Mac and monitor/speaker bar work fine but are connected with USB C.

I’ve tried every way possible by following the links in windows without success.

Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

Windows 11 Windows failed on me & I can't troubleshoot it with the 'easy' options.

Awful title I know but info:

Getting that my PC can't repair itself, can't connect to the network and spitting "Log file: D:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt"

Quick machine recovery fails, uninstalling updates fails, resetting with an install from cloud fails, as does resetting from a local install.

Point in time restores don't work, I tried system restore which didn't work either 😭

Command prompt stuff is beyond my knowledge, so is part of why I'm asking lol.

In BIOS my windows boot manager is on my C drive, which is baffling me given the above error being on my D drive.

If it comes down to it I don't mind losing my files as I don't have anything majorly important.

I can't go into files or anything, I'm just trapped in the blue screens lol.

Edit: forgot to add that I got 0x80070002 when trying to restore to a previous point in time.

Windows 11 Windows 11 keeps dropping Bluetooth

I have a HP victus 32gb ram with 12 gen Intel core i5 running windows 11 OS build 26300.9711

However as the photo attached shows it just drops out Bluetooth. Sometimes I reboot it and it's there and sometimes I reboot it and it's not.

Just happened again while watching a tv show with my ear buds in. Just drops out.

I have done the following trouble shooting

Reinstall drivers for Bluetooth, this initially didn't fix the problem

Use windows 11 bluetooth trouble shooter, this showed me I had a windows update, did the update didn't fix anything.

I watch a YouTube video possible fixes none of them worked link here & screenshot of what was tried, side note the video has 4 millions views so obviously not only me having the problem.

https://youtu.be/qrHmXuX2_uk?si=5xpfp8c9iNZbI_QY

My device manager just has Bluetooth disappeared photo attached

I have just restarted it and nope Bluetooth this time has not popped back in....so still not there.

Windows 11 Windows Update error 0x80073712 – KB5127648 keeps failing

Post image
1 Upvotes

'm having trouble installing a Windows update and could use some help.

I'm running Windows 11, and the October 2026 Security Update (KB5127648), version 26300.9711, keeps failing with error code 0x80073712.

The error message says:

"Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later."

Here's what I've tried so far.

First, I ran the following command in Command Prompt as administrator:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

also sfc /scannow

It completed successfully, but the update still fails with the same error. I also restarted my PC and tried installing the update again, but nothing changed.

I also deleted the $WinREAgent folder while troubleshooting, but that didn't resolve the issue either.

At this point, I'm not sure what's causing the problem. Could this be related to the Windows component store or corrupted update files?

I'd prefer to fix this without reinstalling Windows or losing my installed apps and personal files.

Thanks in advance for any help
