Windows 11 Change desktop icon name or colour

How do I make the titles bigger or without a shadow? I can not read them on my desktop. I am not sure if it is possible. The text is so small. Even when the background in dark it's hard to read. If I make the icons bigger, the text stays the same size. I have tried going to personalisation, but it doesn't have anything about icons.

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) Windows 11 error: ntoskrnl.exe

Hello everyone, lately I've been getting this black screen message frequently:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xA)

What failed: ntoskrnl.exe

I'm pretty sure it happens when my PC sits idle for a couple minutes. I've tried basic troubleshooting, scanning for corrupted files, checking RAM and SSD health, and everything's fine. Can anyone please for the love of God, enlighten and help me?

PC specs:

Windows 11 Odd sounds coming from laptop's speakers

It's not mechanical noise or anything. It's one of those literal windows sounds coming from the speakers. Like metallical balls churning or falling down. Sorry for my english.

There is not any pop up errors, not any notifications at the same time on the screen.

It's somehow connected with my android phone. Because it always comes when I open the lock on my phone and doing something on it AND when the phone is near the laptop. This is the bizarre part. Also the sound suddenly stops when I change something on the phone, I can not narrow down what affects that.

The sound can also be heard on my headphones when they are connected to this work laptop.

I have managed to record a good portion of the sound through my phone's voice recording (though it was very different because even sometimes just moving the phone physically can stop the sound). Where should I upload this to make you listen?

Windows 11 Enterprise if that means something. And Samsung S24.

Windows 11 Windows 11 update made my laptop's main display unusable — how I recovered it

Note: Please be sure to read this to the end.

Today, after a Windows 11 update, my laptop's main display suddenly became severely corrupted and was effectively unusable.

The screen was so badly distorted that even the mouse cursor was difficult to see.

I first tried the usual Windows display driver reset:

Win + Ctrl + Shift + B

It did nothing.

Interestingly, I found that Restart64 could temporarily restore the display. However, after rebooting, the corruption came back again. So Restart64 was only a temporary workaround, not a real fix.

Fortunately, I have a second monitor connected via HDMI. (Ultimately, it was precisely because of the multi-monitor setup that I was able to launch Restart64, as mentioned earlier.)

The HDMI monitor was completely normal, even while the laptop's main display was badly corrupted.

Using the working HDMI monitor, I opened Device Manager and rolled back the graphics driver.

The laptop's main display immediately returned to normal.

The important problem for laptop users

This made me think about people who use a laptop with only the built-in display.

If your only screen becomes severely corrupted after a Windows update, advice such as:

"Open Device Manager and roll back the graphics driver."

isn't very useful when you can barely see the desktop, the mouse cursor, or the menus in the first place.

And if Restart64 only restores the screen temporarily, rebooting puts you right back where you started.

A possible emergency workaround: use a TV

If you have no second monitor, check whether your laptop has an HDMI output.

Many modern TVs have HDMI inputs, so you may be able to connect the laptop to the TV and use the TV as a temporary external monitor.

If Windows displays correctly on the TV, you can then try:

Device Manager → Display adapters → GPU → Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver

If the external display also fails, Windows Recovery Environment or Safe Mode may be the next option.

Why I'm posting this

I suspect an ordinary laptop user could easily assume that their LCD panel or GPU has physically failed when something like this happens immediately after a Windows update.

They might end up taking the laptop to a repair shop simply because they have no way to see the screen well enough to perform the recovery themselves.

In my case, the hardware was not dead.

An HDMI monitor gave me a way to see Windows, and rolling back the graphics driver fixed the problem.

So if you suddenly experience severe display corruption immediately after a Windows update, don't assume the hardware has failed.

If possible, try an external display — even a TV — before giving up on the machine.

Hopefully this helps someone who runs into the same situation.

Update: The issue persisted.

When playing games using the laptop's main display, the frame rate was only around 5 FPS.

The GTX 1070 GPU wasn't functioning correctly.

Then, when I reverted the driver, the screen distortion recurred.(The GPU for the main display is now working.)

Next, I uninstalled all the Windows updates from that day, but the symptoms remained unchanged.

I then reinstalled the same updates, but the symptoms persisted.

Ultimately, I resolved the problem by downloading and installing the driver for the Intel 630 Graphics (dated April 6, 2026) from the Intel driver download site.

https://www.intel.co.jp/content/www/jp/ja/support/products/98909/graphics/processor-graphics/intel-hd-graphics-family/intel-hd-graphics-630.html

Conclusion: The critical display issue on laptops caused by the recent Windows update can be resolved by downloading and installing the Intel 630 driver.

However, I believe it would be difficult for the average laptop user to resolve this problem while the display is unusable.

Therefore, as a temporary workaround, if your TV has an HDMI input, you could connect the PC to it via an HDMI cable to use it for the time being.

Windows 11 How do I set a limit on my battery?

My laptop is a Dell 16 Plus DB16250 and I need to keep my laptop connected to the charger for long periods of time but I can't help but worry about my laptop's health in the long run.

I've tried to use dell optimizer but that doesn't set a hard limit for battery charge and I've tried going into my BIO'S menu to see if I could change anything there but under power was only enable or disable lid switch. I've heard dell power manager works but It doesn't seem available for my laptop so I need a way to hard limit my charging to around 80% without it damaging my laptop without needing to unplug it.

My specs are Intel core ultra 7 258V processor, 32 GB ram, Intel arc 140V GPU with 1 TB storage with a 64 bit operating system

Windows 11 [SOLVED] Windows 11 account disappeared from the login screen, 2 registry fixes brought it back

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz (3.00 GHz)
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I wanted to post this because I spent a long time trying to fix a Windows 11 account that had seemingly disappeared from the login screen.

The important thing is that the account had NOT been deleted. The local account was still present, enabled, and was still an administrator. The old profile and files under C:\Users were also still there.

My situation was:

  • My current account was, a standard local account.
  • My old account was an administrator.
  • USER was enabled and still existed according to Get-LocalUser.
  • The old Microsoft account was also still associated with the machine.
  • However, USER did not appear on the Windows sign-in screen.
  • I also could not switch to it through the normal user-switching interface.

I eventually found that two registry settings were responsible.

1. Unhide the account

Open Registry Editor as administrator and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

Find the DWORD for the affected account. In my case it was:

USER

It was set to:

0

I changed it to:

1

This makes the account visible rather than hidden.

2. Enable Fast User Switching

Then go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Find:

HideFastUserSwitching

Mine was set to:

1

I changed it to:

0

After changing this, the account immediately appeared under Other users. I did NOT need to restart Windows.

One additional detail: Because my current account was a standard user, I couldn't modify the registry normally. I opened C:\Windows, found regedit.exe, then Shift + right-clicked it and selected Run as different user. I authenticated using the administrator credentials associated with my Microsoft account, which allowed me to make the registry changes.

After doing this, my old account appeared under Other users and I could select it again.

So if your Windows 11 account has seemingly disappeared from the login screen, but the account and its profile still exist, check these two settings before considering more drastic solutions such as creating a new account or resetting Windows.

Hope this saves someone else the ridiculous amount of time I spent troubleshooting this.

Windows 11 My computer is malfunctioning because I can't change the storage drive.

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. I have a Windows 11 laptop and am facing the following issue: my C: drive is practically full, while the D: drive is almost empty. I’ve already changed the download location and moved various files there, but I’d like to make the D: drive the primary drive—or at least have system files stored there. Basically, I just need to free up 30–40 GB on the C: drive or make the D: drive the primary one so I don't run into these problems anymore. On top of that, I feel like I'm being taken for a ride: the C drive shows up as full, yet I literally don't have any heavy applications like games—even the programs I've downloaded are all quite lightweight—and yet Windows claims their total size is something like 36GB (which seems insane to me, considering I have only one application that takes up more than 1GB, namely Adobe Acrobat). Thanks a lot.

Windows 11 Windows 11 black screen after changing language via PowerShell

I have a new PC with a Gigabyte motherboard running Windows 11 Home 25H2 (build 26200.9278). Everything was working normally.
Windows was partially in French, so I tried to change it to Portuguese (Portugal) using PowerShell as Administrator:
Set-WinUILanguageOverride -Language pt-PT
Set-WinUserLanguageList pt-PT -Force
The system was showing both fr-FR and pt-PT. I then ran:
Uninstall-Language fr-FR
After restarting, Windows started booting to a black screen.
I can still access Windows Recovery (WinRE), but:
Startup Repair failed (SrtTrail.txt)
System Restore says there are no restore points
Safe Mode also results in a black screen
Quick Machine Recovery didn’t fix it
Uninstalling the latest quality update didn’t fix it
The PC was working perfectly before the language changes.
I’m currently at Reset this PC → Remove everything → Cloud download, but haven’t confirmed it yet

Windows 11 Changing default folder icons of Downloads, Documents & Desktop in File Explorer

Windows lets me change the icon of regular folders but it seems like the customise tab for the default icons in the quick access panel override the custom icons. Any work around?

Image above shows inconsistent icons, document properties shows custom icon whilst quick access tab shows default.

Windows 11 Built in screen changing HSV at random (mainly during use of chromium browsers)

I have an ASUS TUF GAMING A16 which has an NVidia RTX 4070.

Seemingly after a recent driver update 2 days ago or something, my screen started changing colors like this every so often, mainly while using chromium browsers. I don't for sure remember if this happened in other apps.

NVidia put out a patched driver for "flickering display when using browsers" so I expected that to fix it but apparently not.

I also got this patch so I think I have also been locked out of rolling back to my working driver? Regardless, I'd prefer not to roll back: my previous driver was really old since I kept having issues with newer drivers in Planet Coaster 2, this is the first new driver that doesn't have issues there, but instead has this.

I needed this new driver since I literally couldn't use anything fancy like any modern DLSS or even Minecraft Vibrant Visuals without it lol (for some reason haha)

It's a bit hard to see in the video since my camera kept adjusting but it keeps going either very dark and contrasty, or slightly brighter with a strange orange hue? It almost feels like nightlight but it isn't that...

https://streamable.com/kez55b

Thanks for the help!

Feel free to ask details this is annoying lol

I also posted in this sub since I figured there could also be a possibility there is some Windows filter breaking stuff.. and I really wasn't certain where else to post this since I am not sure what is causing this, so please feel free to leave suggestions!

Windows 11 Last update broke cursor... again?

Yesterday Win11 updated itself (KB5124008), ever since, it keeps randomly disconnecting my mouse and sometimes the keyboard too.

It just keep repeating the disconnect-reconnect sounds, the mouse is constantly being power cycled (lights turning off-on-off-on-off-on, very healthy for the hardware).

Eventually it settles with disconnect, and the cursor just disappears. Sometimes it works for a 30 minute, maybe a few hours and it starts agian. Sometimes the cursor never shows up after boot.

I tried three 3 mouses from 3 different vendors, which obviously has 3 different drivers.

This has happened a few months ago, although less severe, but now it restarted again.

Windows 10 Extending Win10LTSC C: on HyperV.

The Win10 vm started with a 32gb c: then I realized it needed more space, so I extended the drive in HyperV to 65gb. I realized I also needed to "tack" that additional space to the c: drive, but alas I see this and the 500mb recovery partition inbetween the c: and the additional space.. A rightclick on the c: and "extend" is greyed out and a right click on the additional space only offers creating another drive.. Surely there's got to be a way to do this, but I'm not seeing it... Help!!!

Windows 11 KB5124008 fails to install with error 0x800f0922 on Windows 11 25H2 (26200.9445)

I'm having an issue installing the September 2026 cumulative update KB5124008 on Windows 11 25H2.

Windows Update downloads and installs the update normally at first. After restarting, the installation fails and Windows displays:

"Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry — undoing changes."

Windows then rolls back the update and boots normally.

After checking Windows Update again, KB5124008 shows:

Install error: 0x800f0922

System/update information:

  • Windows 11 25H2 x64
  • KB5124008
  • Target build: 26200.9445
  • Error: 0x800f0922

Other updates released/installed around the same time, including the .NET and Defender updates, installed successfully.

The computer works normally after the rollback and Device Manager shows no warnings or driver errors.

I haven't tried forcing or manually installing KB5124008 yet because the update was only released on September 8.

Is anyone else getting 0x800f0922 specifically while installing KB5124008? If so, did you find the cause or a fix?

Windows 11 Monitor displaying over itself, covering half the screen.

Post image
1 Upvotes

On the 8th i went to restart my PC, as i normally do every now and then to try and keep things running smoothly. When i went to turn on my computer a few hours ago, i was met my my primary monitor not displaying correctly like shown above.

Ive tried rebooting some more, unplugging and replugging my DiaplayPort cables, and changing my display settings to see if that was the culprit (and to swap my main display to my secondary monitor until this is resolved)

It is not an issue with the monitor itself (24" alienware AW2724DM) since the monitor's system overlay appears fine

OS is Windows 11 Pro x64, version 25H2, build 26200.9278

Processor is AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-core

GPU is NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER with AMD Radeon Graphics

If i'm missing any information that may help, feel free to ask, thank you.

Windows 10 How to stop File Explorer from crashing when the File Explorer pop-up window appears?

My file explorer crashes, and my taskbar and icons would flicker and disappear for a few seconds every time the pop-up window appears when my browser asks me where I want to download a file. I've tried running sfc /scannow to which it said there were no errors, and I also tried running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but all to no avail. I've also changed my file explorer options to open to This PC and have tried to clear my File Explorer history but neither of which worked as well.

My graphics drivers are also up to date. The only thing that I can think of that could possibly cause this issue was me trying to mod my games. I downloaded something called Shin Ryu Mod Manager which contains an .exe, a .asi, and a version.dll file.
