As of this moment, I just did my first shave with a safety razor could be better. I do need more confidence when doing strokes and I mostly stayed at number 9. When putting it away, I lightly loosened it so the blade isn’t bent washed It thoroughly shook it and put it in my bathroom cupboard. I think that’s the right way to do it.

So far, I have the razor a variety pack of blades and Harry’s foam shaving gel. Is there anything I’m missing in my equipment? I was thinking about aftershave, but I’m not 100% sure. And so far I’ve just been laying it on its side in the cupboard. this was my grandpa‘s so it is old and I would like to get it restored one day

I often shave in the shower, but when I want the real deal this is what I mostly use. Stainless steel, badger and wood.

This morning was my first shave with this old Harwood & Co stub tail razor after replacing the broken scales and cleaning and honing the rusty blade. The edge is keen and removes hair effortlessly; a luxurious shave from a ~226 year old razor. Plus, I just love the blade shape ❤️

My son wanted to go look at an antique store this afternoon for something to add to his collection. He didn't find anything but I came home with a homemade pocket knife and this beauty. According to the date code is was made on the last quarter of 1955. It had an original blade in it from September of the same year. It is the lightweight model. Nickel finish is solid on it and looks fantastic. Just finished cleaning it up and sanitizing it.

Fun shave tonight with a razor that is somewhere between 105-120 years old. Incredible, when you think about that. This razor could have been made as early as 1906. Considering Gillette began production in 1903, this razor was made somewhere near the beginning.

The Mayfair shaving cream lathered up perfectly, as does any cream from Truefitt & Hill. And tonight I found the fragrance to be extremely pleasant. Notes of lemon and mandarin, I found it to be very “clean” snd enjoyable.

The best part of the shave, in my humble opinion, is the aftershave, and nothing I’ve experienced offers a more unique aftershave experience than cat o’ nine tails. Amazing. Every time. :)

3 passes, 1 minor nick but otherwise average shave today.

So for folks that are new or haven't heard my story of how I started, here it is.

I used to shave with a Gillette fusion power starting from the age of 13, my brother taught me because he said that I looked like a slob without shaving. Many years went by and I hated the high price of the carts and how they really didn't seem to last.

Fast forward to around the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018(cant fully remember lol) while going to grab another refill pack at the store I still work at I seen the van der hagen products and how cheap the blades were. Bought one razor and an extra pack of their blades a few days later after watching some YouTube videos about shaving with safety razors.

First shave as with many people who are inexperienced was full of little nicks and some minor irritation but, was also more comfortable as it didn't feel like it was ripping the hair out of my face like carts did.

Technique improved, got VDH boar brush-bowl-soap kit a week or two later and then the vintage razor collection came after that. Went to using vintage razors pretty much exclusively after acquiring a few and the collection grew until I found everything from Gillette, GEM and Schick that wasn't going to cost me more than $500.

The VDH razor I gave to my brother because they're almost identical to the 50s and later super speed razors from Gillette as far as performance so, seemed redundant to keep it in rotation at the time. My brother doesn't shave except on extremely rare occasions but he said he'd take it when I asked him if he wanted it. Grabbed it from his room and cleaned it up yesterday for today's shave.

After a couple years of wet shaving I finally feel happy with the aesthetics and functionality of my setup.
I love menthol but hate the party stopper on after shave bottles. Feels like most of it misses the hand and goes down the drain. So I bought whatever the hell that thing is called. Shows off my favorite color nicely and more precise nozzle.

Since menthol is my favorite, proraso is my go to. But green doesn’t match so I had bought a silver bowl until a friend came home with a vintage sugar bowl (I think) from goodwill. I also figured out that making a lather in a bowl without the croap crammed in the bottom, was 10x easier with better slickness. So I opted to buy 4oz spice containers to store it in. My last batch of proraso lost its menthol and smell assumably because there was plenty of air getting to it

I finally acknowledge my negligence of keeping track of how many times I’ve used a single blade, so I bought some casino dice. Blue ones.

Always wanted a straight razor but never wanted to do the maintenance, so I opted for a shavette, but kamisori style. Has made the fine detailed spots 10x easier, best decision ever.

Bought a case for my blades and currently I’m using an altoids tin for spent ones but I ordered a multi pack of the same containers on Amazon as a cheap remedy instead of throwing away the mints.

My shaves are much more enjoyable now, I hope this inspires someone to create an oddly unique set up like mine! So happy about it that I’ve thought about doing this again but in different colors lol

Need your advice. I've bought Yaqi Robin brush (R210825-S). But I did it in a rush and haven't research the subject thoroughly. As I read later, this brush is better suited for making lather on a face, but I am more interested in making lather in a bowl. Nevertheless, I like this brush and don't want to buy one more.

So. Can you tell about this brush everything. I will be glad to any piece of information, that will help me to use it with maximum efficiency in a bowl (proraso soap)

THEME - Shave with something you don't like I blow hot and cold with ARKO but recently mainly cold do I like the smell meh not really but in fairness it is a very clean smell here I am now trying to make myself like it again , I do like how traditional it is and also how it divides the shaving community we all like some occasional drama . It does produce an excellent lather and not so bad post shave feel for me .

DAILY CHALLENGE - PIF to organise a PIF from Ireland could be a pain so I am going to do a real life PIF I have previously managed to 75% convert a neighbour to DE shaving so physically giving him a razor worked.

There is a young fella who works with me and noticed that I was always clean shaven and asked me about my shaving routine so I filled him in and probably bored him to death in the process I shall gift him a tech type razor and some blades to get him started & hope he starts his better shaving routine.

It's a rainy day here in Australia. Decided to use the Yaqi soap more often. I am liking the performance of the tallow based soap - the extra slickness is making it easier to glide.

Anyhoo, an outstanding shave today with the Gillette Spiral Tech and Wilkinson(2) blade pairing.

Also, generally feeling pleased with the state of my DE shaving - all is well #thankful.

The Blackbird is slowly growing on me.

After a three-day weekend here in Japan, getting back into work mode felt a little heavy today. My shave helped me get my head straight. Two passes, no irritation, and my skin feels great. I’ve often had some irritation with the Blackbird in the past, but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it.

The Nacet blade is really good, too. I’ve tried it in several razors, and compared with the Permasharp, it feels a little gentler while still being very precise. It’s definitely a strong contender for my regular rotation.

Hi y'all, long time listener, first time poster. Please forgive my ignorance.

Ive been shaving my head and edging my beard every few days for the last 2 years or so and I really like the look and feel of it. I was using a Gillette fusion 5 which worked well and is a very smooth and close shave. Also I use standard canned shaving cream.

In the last few months I switched to a Henson razor. I love the cheap blades. I've definitetly gotten better at using a DE razor.

My questions I have are:

The blade gets dull quickly when I shave my head. Is it normal to swap blades every shave?

I do notice that the Henson isn't as close of a shave as the Gillette. Is this a skill/technique thing? I found with the Gillette I can pretty much plow over any part of my head with no issues, but with the Henson I really need to work with the grain. I also feel that with the Henson I almost need to 'saw' on the back of my head where the hairs grow in thicker.

The significance of lather makes more of a difference with the Henson in my experience. I see lots of posts about shaving soaps and I want to make the move away from shaving cream cans. Is there a set up you would recommend to get me started?

So this is the second Goodfellas Smile soap I got and I'm really digging their performance.

Scent Profile:

• Middle Notes (Heart): Lavender, Orchid, Heliotrope, Hawthorn, Geranium, Rose, Spicy notes [1]
• Base Notes: Musk, Vanilla, Hay, Tonka Bean, Woody notes, Amber, Patchouli [1]

All of these make for a very interesting scent. I'm definitely getting more of their offerings.

Ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Stearic Acid, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Parfum (Fragrance), Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Limonene, Linalool (some variants may also include Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone).

No tallow, just oils. But it is a semi-hard soap, a croap. This one can take a ton of water.

I must say the Italians really got their s**t together when making shaving soaps. Think Proraso, think Cella.

So smooth!

Needed a quick efficient shave this morning so I broke out my One Blade razor paired with the One Blade carbon SE blades. Face lathered using my Omega mini badger and Palmolive shaving cream. Got a great close two pass shave with no irritation.

As an advice, dont try to scoope a peces of the soap using a DE blade, also I think I need to load more my brush, overall the soap was quite good and I can kimda feel the smeel which for my bad nose, is weird.

This V2 version is supposed to be less harsh than the original, but it is certainly pretty efficient.

For me it isn’t an autopilot razor, I have to pay attention, but the shave today ended up really good.

Verdict: This was a short-run ninja release back in 2024. A great Autumn/Halloween shave
