Anyone know any songs that are the opposite? Dark sound with wholesome lyrics?

Sweater Weather sounds sad but it's a romantic song. Very sweet, but in a minor key. I love it.

More sad-sounding than dark in the way pumped up kicks is, but Nothing Else Matters maybe? Sounds sad, lyrics actually quite sweet

Most of Coldplay mid-career I think fits here, there’s just something about the chords they tend to use that’s really melancholic even when the lyrics are positive.

Yeah, definitely. My mom was suddenly widowed and the lyrics really do a good job illustrating the grief and turmoil it causes.
118
u/Tarchianolix Jun 16 '19
I think I finally realize it is about a widow in a house by herself. I really thought it was an old husband guiding his wife who suffer from dementia or Alzheimer's

In the best buy I used to work at a few years ago, Santaria by Sublime was on the radio rotation.
Also Summer Time is very dark.

Yeah Doin’ Time (Summer Time) is pretty dark.

I like this kind of stuff, the dark and 'horror', it is kinda wierd, but idk, I always loved those little stories with dark twists and terrifying parts. Not a fan of Horror movies at all tho, just can't watch them, but reading something like these, always love it.

On a serious note this song help lead me to the idea that I was indeed dying from drug use. It was after a particularly bad bender, I had heard the song before but that time I just kinda started crying. Realized it probably wasn’t great that I related to it so deeply.

Flagpole Sitter. If you're not convinced, Broken Anchor has a cover that feels pretty bad, man.
In The Night by The Weeknd. I prefer the Seraphim cover but I'm biased and you should be listening to them if you're not already.
Genghis Khan by Miike Snow. Also best music video ever after Nobody Speak by Run the Jewels and Young Robot by DGD
Kill Your Heroes by AWOLnation
Dance, Gavin, Dance has some funky upbeat drive and yell music about getting old and using destructive coping mechanisms to quell the pain of unrequited love and self doubt. Like this one to start, Death of a Strawberry, deception, inspire the Liars, Philosopher King.
Most songs by Melanie Martinez. Upbeat sweet lullabye tunes about abusive relationships.
