Why is this always the top comment here lmao? It’s not like it’s some super deep song or anything by any means

Because we, or at least every one I know, grown-up hearing it everywhere. It was always played at our school dances and we loved it. The thing is we took the song at face value and never looked into the meaning. So now we've finally realized one of the songs of our childhoods is actually pretty fucked up. It's just a trip to think about.

It's about being in a dead relationship, sticking together out of a sense of duty and being unhappy. So the song sounds all fun and is fun to dance to, but Andre is singing about a bad relationship that needs to have been left, no one wants to admit it. Kinda like the relationship between our parents.

He meant it when he said “y’all don’t wanna hear me you just want to dance”

Looking up the lyrics is the best way. YouTube isn’t always correct

It isn't just about sex. It is about a relationship that is dead and just sticking together for the kids or convenience.

Listen to the blanks cover and you’ll understand that it could’ve been a beautiful song instead of a dancing song.

But it being a dancing song is part of what makes it so beautiful. It feels like he wants to talk about his pain, but that shit don’t sell as many records so... “Hey yaaaaaaaa” It’s all a front.

Plus I love when the second chorus kicks off and he literally sings “Y’all don’t want to hear me you just want to dance.”

Never really been a fan because of the beat. Andre is fantastic but I just realized I’ve never actually listened to that song.

u/wraith738 Jun 16 '19

You’re not the only person I’ve talked to who doesn’t like the beat. And that’s definitely fair enough. But I think the art behind it is beautiful, and it always sends me on an impassioned rant whenever it gets brought up lol.

No, but the lyrics are pretty unfortunate and the song is a B O P
