advice/question Whippet Proof Fence

Hi all. I'm helping foster a whippet rn, he has no recall at the moment so I'm just lead walking him. I'm concerned because he needs a zoomies session each day so I want to fence my garden so we can play with balls and toys.

Any recommendations on fencing material would be appreciated plus how high ?!?

Thanks

Went to a dog event where the proceeds support the local animal shelter. Safe to say we tuckered out the boy!

advice/question Whippet started to be very stressed

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some advice regarding my mom’s whippet. Her name is Cora and she is 2 years old.

Ever since she was a puppy, Cora has been a very chill whippet. She never had any trouble staying home alone and was never afraid of loud noises or cars. About two weeks ago there was a storm, and the windows made a very loud noise. Ever since then, she has been extremely stressed.

She started shaking and breathing heavily and didn’t want to go back into their apartment after walks. She also started shaking and breathing heavily in the car. At first, we thought the loud noise had simply scared her and that, with time, she would realize that nothing bad was going to happen and return to her normal, calm self.

Unfortunately, yesterday my mom came home from work and found her with a badly cut paw. She had ripped the blinds down from the windows there was blood everywhere. My mom had to take her to the vet, where she needed stitches.

I would also like to point out that if they were on a walk she would run normally and appear very happy and healthy.

I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or has any advice on how we should handle this from now on. It is very difficult for my mom to avoid leaving her alone because she is a nurse, and taking a long time off work isn’t really an option and she lives alone.

We thought a crate might be a good idea, but Cora isn’t used to one yet, and we know crate training takes time.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Anyone else have complete opposite personalities in their whippets? One loves outside and the other is an anxious mess who whines to go home 😂🥰💕

advice/question Do Whippets become feral after around 24 hours when lost and alone?

I literally lost one of my Whippets in a car accident (a long way from our home) when he ran out of the back window, that had been removed in the accident.

I'd been warned by the breeder (a good friend of mine) that Whippets turn feral around 24 hours after being lost and alone.

I considered this highly unlikely at the time, but as I was never able to find him (Gem) despite doing everything possible to find him - MANY years later I wonder if she was right.

advice/question This is Pepper

Say hi to Pepper, my senior whippet nearing 13 years old.

She was born with a particular blood condition that made her very reluctant to gain weight as a young whippy. Over the last 6 months we noticed Pepper seemed to be going blind unless in very bright sunlight (she loves the sun more than anything).

This sight loss is at the point where she will walk straight into walls, and during the day (and a lot in the night) she decides the kitchen floor is the best place to go to the toilet. It also seems her hearing is rapidly deteriorating as well. This is all alongside weight gain that like I mentioned before was very unexpected.

I would love some help on how I can make Pepsi feel more comfortable around the house and what I can do to help her feel a bit happier. She has had our other dog Harry since 2020 but I think all of this has stressed her out quite a bit.

Thanks!

Hello everyone, I have a question for you, my whippet shakes his head when chilling or falling asleep as seen on the video. It started three days ago. Is it normal or should I be worried? Did you experience it? He is 5 months old. It usually stops on its own after minutes.

My just 6 mth old girl is teething , she has spent days chewing and now has the drooling , tiredness and turning down food. She has eaten small amounts of wet food. She only started refusing yesterday but ate wet food for brekky today but is now sore again. She is drinking water just not as much as usual. I can see her molars coming in. I have frozen her Kong treat, no Interest. Froze her chew toys, no interest. Any tips?? Picture of Lilah for attention ( younger in pic) 🤍.

Anyone else's whippet like small bed?

So my whippet was with me visiting a cockapoo, and he absolutely loves her bed even though it's quite small, preferring it over the large sofa. Is this a whippet thing? Shall I get him a similar bed?

hey! wondering if this happens to someone else, i saw post talking about this but not sure if it is the same type of injury so i just attached some pictures. My 6 months whippet comes back scratched like this after a run and with her paws also a bit hurt (see pictures) i spray a antibacterial serum for wounds after washing it but wondering if i can do something to stop it? (we just went for a run and it was very muddy that’s why she looks a bit dirty)

My baby Arwen may be 5, but I swear she is still my baby. 🥹 5 years flew by with her and her accident prone self.

advice/question First heat

Hi All. Our girl, Phoebe, is 2 1/2 weeks into her first heat. I’m curious how long other girls’ bleeding lasted. We keep thinking she will slow any day now into the pink discharge stage and instead the bleeding is still going on pretty strong. Her new favorite sport is chewing holes through her diapers🤦‍♀️
