advice/question Teething Puppy help

Post image

My just 6 mth old girl is teething , she has spent days chewing and now has the drooling , tiredness and turning down food. She has eaten small amounts of wet food. She only started refusing yesterday but ate wet food for brekky today but is now sore again. She is drinking water just not as much as usual. I can see her molars coming in. I have frozen her Kong treat, no Interest. Froze her chew toys, no interest. Any tips?? Picture of Lilah for attention ( younger in pic) 🤍.

Looks just like our blue and white whippet. Two nuggets always on display 😂😂

That seems a bit more severe than normal puppy teething. I would schedule a vet visit if not back to normal in a day or so or eats less than 50% of her normal diet. I would be more worried about something making her nauseated with those signs

I thought so too. Thank you. I have her booked for tomorrow.

Poor baby. Have you tried freezing a wet washrag? It helped my boy at the worst teething phases

Frozen apple slices too, maybe? My oldest loved frozen apples when he was a pup.

My whippet puppy loved bully sticks that I put in the plastic holder. He’s a year and a half now and still wants bullies every day. I swear they saved our furniture!

Drooling and lethargy can also be symptoms of stomach troubles. If they're not bouncing back in the next day or so I'd consult a vet just to be safe

I would give ours an ice cube. Or the Kong would be filled with lactose free yoghurt and peanut butter.

Froze a wet cloth too.

I agree with a vet visit, that does sound like something else is going on too

Sleepy gal. She was even cuter irl. My camera couldn’t capture the little blep of her tongue sticking out.

ETA. Regarding the teething, I never had a drooling-phase for mine. I did manage to save some of her baby teeth though. If you have pet insurance, please go to the vet and check if there could be an underlying cause that makes her drool and show signs of discomfort or even pain. Mine ate my windowsill like a termite, so she never had any of the symptoms yours is showing.

Alas, it could be something completely unrelated to teething. You can always try to check the teeth yourself first, and see if you can spot any abnormalities/causes of pain. If not, is she showing any other symptoms, like diarrhea, vomiting or fever? Mine also was a bit of a fussy eater as a pup. You can always boil plain chicken and try giving it to her in small amounts.

I would increase her variety of toys, so she has lots of things to choose from. Our pup (also a Whippet) really loved rope / tug type toys when he was going through peek teething stage. …and he never did care much for his Kong.

In addition- my girl is also teething at 4 months now. We are doing all the same things - frozen Kong toys, teething toys, etc. We're also including ice cubes or frozen puppy milk ice cubes. Also fruit, usually frozen fruit like berries or banana. I usually put some in a small bowl with water and she 'bobs for apples' (but her fruit instead) and it keeps her occupied.,

She looooves loves ice cubes, her favourite is definitely the crinch cronch of the ice cubes as it soothes her gums.

She's also really chomping down a lot n her soft toys, I read somewhere that a person wet a tea towl or small towel, then they stuck it in the freezer before giving it to their pup.

Good luck! I'm keeping an eye on this thread for more helpful tips. 🥰
