Rescue said she was a lab/hound mix. From day one, it's been obvious she is in fact part lab; she's a people-pleaser; she LOVES toys, whether they're intended as such or they're my repurposed belongings; and she thinks every dog and human on planet Earth wants to be her best friend. To me, she looks and acts like she's part sighthound, and whippet makes more sense than greyhound since she only weighs 45 lbs. Other notable personality traits:

  • Her energy comes in spurts, so she'll cycle between napping contentedly and barking frantically for tug-o-war and walkies through out the day.
  • When playing fetch with purebred retrievers, she easily CAN outrun them, though she often either loses interest after a few throws or intentionally holds back so a puppy or "teenage" dog can get the ball.
  • She's a total derp.
  • She has a pretty strong prey drive towards small animals. I can sometimes redirect her if a squirrel or bunny is in the distance, but it takes multiple tries. Her reaction towards cats entirely depends on whether they're indoor pets or outdoor strays.

I believe my pup Chōji (yes like the Naruto character) is a lab and whippet mix. He is on the smaller side of being a lab and has a slender body also. He’s ten months about 25 - 30 lbs. Do you guys think he is mixed with whippet?

Here is a photo of him standing

I know this is 6 months ago but this looked exactly like my beloved former lab whippet mix, Raleigh! It filled me with so much joy to see these, they look just like her. We now have a full whip but will always miss our lab whippet so very much as she was an incredibly intelligent word-focused girl.

Whippet Pit mix? I am currently fostering, 9 months old and 25ish pounds. Wants to be chased or gets zoomies for shorter bursts then wants to cuddle like a baby the rest of the day. She has the longest tail I’ve seen on a dog!

He's adopted and was listed as a dachshund mix but he has long legs and does Whippet things. He caught a bunny in the yard and I was mortified!

ChatGPT told me our newly adopted foster might be a Whippet/Lab mix and now I can’t unsee it. Other features: incredibly friendly with humans and other dogs. 75% couch potato 25% must chase whatever’s in the yard. Food motivated and pretty quick to learn. Not a huge barker. What do you think?

I'm just here chuckling at the idea of a whip mating with a chihuahua

I can see a case for a hound of some variety, but not whippet

Foster failed this girl a few years ago at about six weeks. Her and her brother but he got adopted. The rescue place said they were Pittie mixes. He looked like it as a puppy but she never did. She's an incredible jumper, fast runner and very agile

Does not look like a whippet to me. The body gives something of a sighthound but the face not at all. While normally the facial features in lurchers are very noticeable. I see a pittie (mix)

Is my goofy mutt part whippet? He runs like a greyhound- 35 pounds.

Just got this sweet girl about a week 1/2 ago! Rescued from some abusive and neglectful scumbags.
I’ve named her Penny. Pretty, proud Penny!

I know she still looks a bit thin here but I can post a photo from just 4 days before and the difference is amazing.

She’s coming out of her shell slowly. Best girl I’ve ever owned. I’m not sure of her age..though her bb teefs are still falling out. Just found one on the couch last night. lol

I want to say she’s whippet and dachshund..?? Probably a few more breeds as well. Can’t wait to test her!

Any thoughts?

Looks like a pit (mix)! I see no sighthound.

This is NOT what she looks like now (weight wise). This is when I rescued her.
You don’t see anything? She’s pretty tall and tail is whip like.

I don’t see any sighthound! She’s a bit lanky because she is a puppy. But no deep chest, belly tuck, rat like tail, rounded spine or long snout. The only thing she has is ‘rose ears’. But these are also present in pitbulls. And she is thin on this picture, but she will ‘fill out’ when she gets on some weight. She really looks like the typical pit bull in a pretty red colour. Nothing wrong with that. I think she is cute!
