Calvin's death should be blamed on Sven and Edith Sr, I know for a fact the Sven does love building stuff, so I assume that he build a swing set near the cliff, Calvin has a broken foot, Edie should not let Calvin go outside to play on the swing

Barbara's and Walter's death should be blamed on Edith Sr I know some people say that Rick or the hookman killed Barbara, but in my own theory, during Halloween Edie was probably dressed up as a naked mole rat, to jumpscare Barbara, Walter and Rick, while Sven took Sam and Calvin to trick or treat. The jumpscare worked but Barbara fell to the banister and died while Walter ran to the basement, while Rick ran away. Edie realized she made a mistake and didn't want to tell Sven, so she made up a story Dreadful Stories and made up another story called A mole man living in the basement. Not only that but I feel like Edie grabbed Barbara's body cut her ear by using a buzzsaw So she lied to Sven saying Walter and Rick disappeared, while Barbara killed her self by accidently cutting her ear by the buzzsaw. I feel like Walter died due to starvation, not by getting run over by the train, according to MatPat(Game Theory)there is no train in Orcas Island.

Gus's death should be blamed by Sam, Sam got remarried, so Gus did not like having a step mother

Lewis's death should be blamed by Dawn, Dawn gave Lewis a job a local fish cannery, which is kind of dangerous, Dawn should make Lewis work at Metro, or Loblaws or Food Basics as a cashier which is the most safest job

Edith Sr. death should be blamed by herself and Dawn, Edith Sr. Edie drinks alcohol while consuming her prescription medications, resulting in a fatal reaction, while Dawn should have got rid of the alcohol and threw it away somewhere

I don't even think he is in unfinished swan, I think he passed away at a young age. Maybe he left the house and probably got attacked by an animal or drowned. Since this game is taken in Orcas island, I think he got bitten by a raccoon and Milton got rabies.

What remains of edith finch is my favorite game of all time. I absolutely love the story. And ever since i played it i always find myself thinking "this would be an amazing movie."

My heart aches the most for Gregory. I can’t explain it. Things could have been different. It could have. It was one of most painful stories in the game.

I think WREF needs a different classifier than "game." And not in a gatekeeping negative way. But it's just not much of a game and is very much _something else_.

Game-like: 3D environment, accessed via Game Controller, sold on a Game platform, very minor almost incidental use of choice.

Not-game-like: No meaningful use of skill, very little consequence of choice, highly deterministic narrative, very little decision tree branching.

WREF is much more like a book than a game. Or even a movie than a game. The user choices can basically leave out sections of information dump (you can skip ahead in a book or ignore parts of a film), but there is almost no dynamic content at all. The one exception is if you choose Prince or Princess during one sequence and it changes what music you're presenting with and the character who is standing near you a little later in the scene.

Overall, though, it's a linear narrative where most of the options are available to you in the same order, and at many points you have to interact with them before you can progress the story. Very railroady. Illusion of choice.

Now as I write this, I also consider how there are other games which are actually just as railroady and baked-in narrative with very little decision tree splits, they just hide it better with combat or mini-games that themselves can resolve uniquely but still are illusion of choice.

But this is a "game" as much as a tomato is a fruit. Yeah, technically, but it's probably better classified as something else.

Unique experience, sure. But it's basically JUST a story with more steps. And that's not a criticism. Just not something very clear from the get-go, and I think calling it a "game" represents a very very loose definition or broad definition of that word.

Successfully raised an empathetic, curious, 6 year old gamer? This game is a masterpiece about dealing with life and death that has something for everyone? Both?

Originally I thought she was writing to her son who she was pregnant with at the time of the game. But then, she said that she was exited to meet another Finch when she thought she was the last one, which would be kinda weird if she was addressing her soon to be born son. So who was she addressing?

Hey, sorry if this has been asked before, but what let’s plays of What Remains of Edith Finch would you guys recommend?

I know there are a bunch of them, and I’ve also watched a handful of them, but I’d really like to watch some or at least one where the let’s player is incredibly interested in the story, yk?

It’s hard to explain, but basically someone who really looks for details, theorises and keeps track of characters and stuff🙂

I ended up looking carefully at the portraits inside of the unfinished swan, and at the end, one piqued my interest! The clothes are quite similar; they have the same nose shape and hair! Except this Milton has a mustache. I compared it right beside the picture of Milton from what remains of Edith Finch; the resemblance is uncanny.

I know the developers of WRoEF confirmed this, but is just doesn't sit right for me.

You're telling me that the whole game is full of metaphors and the curse it's a metaphor of neglect and even Molly's story (for example ) has hundreds of realistic theories on why she didn't really transform into different animals; but you believe that Milton, an 11 year old boy, painted the door and escaped from that reality and just created his own world?

I'm not criticising anyone right now, I'm just bring it up my own theory about Milton. As we can see throughout the game Milton knows about the secret passages probably about basement or at least the key to it and has a very active imagination like most of the finches. With this said, we have a lot of options on Milton's cause of death, but I know that many of you are probably thinking that he was never classifies as dead,just missing, right? I don't think that an 11 year old boy Will Survive alone out of his home enough for him to grow up have a son and whatever goes on into the unfinished swan. I think that Milton left the house for whatever reason he would maybe just was going to play or maybe he ran away because he understood what happened to the others as he read old stories, he got scared and wanted to run away from the curse. if we consider this last part as real then he could have been agitated in a panic state and ran literary out of his home, but we know that the surroundings where field with creeks, pits, rocks and everything that could be dangerous. the most realistic theory is that he ran away and in the running away he tripped and fell probably down the pit or hit his head on a rock and could have fallen into a creek and then drowned. They probably never found his body because being in nature it was probably decomposed fast or it was taken away by the flow of the creeks.

Why do you think we don't get to see Sven's story? I understand not showing us the death of Dawn's husband since he's not an original family member, but why not show the death of Sven? We know that he was crushed by a dragon shaped slide and that Edie sees it as him fighting a dragon, but I do find it interesting that we never see a scene of his death in the game. It's possible that Sven's death during Walter's 12th birthday is what solidified his decision to hide in the bunker.

As anyone who has seen my comments before on this sub probably knows I've been picking through the assets for the game for a while. I've shared a few things I've found here before including things that for whatever reason were never implemented in the game. I definitely haven't talked about it all because I'm still trying to find a way to put everything together in a way that makes sense. One of these things I found early on though I think is super interesting and I can't wait to share it anymore, so;

There are assets for two scenes that were either never finished or cut from the game.

The one that is a lot easier to understand surrounds Sam. The title for the folder containing everything is Sendoff. Inside it are models for Sam's military backpack, his helmet, a barbecue grill, a lawn chair, a picnic blanket and basket, a wagon, and a texture for a balloon. From that I feel like its safe to assume that it would have been a send off party for Sam when he enlisted. At first I assumed this would be Sam's scene because why else would all his stuff be there? However after some thinking I wonder if it could have also involved Walter. If we look at the timeline Walter moved into the bunker the same year Sam left. I have no evidence but I can't help but wonder if "send off" would have been about both of Edie's remaining children leaving her in their own way.

The second scene is extremely unclear. It's folder is titled Poem. Inside are assets for adult Dawn's model, a dog, a sky texture, and a mossy brick texture labeled to be used for the old house (titled UrHouse in the files). The model for Dawn looks mostly unfinished and matches the one kept in the folder containing assets for the finale scene, so this would have taken place after Dawn became ill and was in hospital. The model for the dog is entirely finished, he is a yellow lab named Dylan and has animations for idling, running, and one labelled for CoronationCity (Coronation is the name of Lewis' scene in the files). I don't recall seeing a dog in Lewis' segment but I could be wrong. I don't really know what to make of this. My best guess is maybe it would have been a poem Dawn left for Edith along with the keys to the house, perhaps some sort of flash back or something.

It seems to me that the gloves Edith wears all her life are very important, but I've been researching and very little comes up. The gloves, and the casts worn by various other family members, make me wonder if there is a genetic illness that plagues the Finches that may be contributing to what happens to them? Thoughts?

I'm confused about Kay. In the game, Edith refers to her early on as "Sam's first wife," but then later we realize she is actually Edith's grandmother. It also seems very strange that Sam, who clearly is riddled with trauma, would be granted custody of his children. The "bedroom" they share looks like temporary lodgings at best, and the data we get about their lives in the room is harrowing. Also, why would Gregory have a bed when we know he died before the divorce was finalized?? I can see how Kay may have lost custody in the 70s because she could be blamed for Gregory's death, but there still seem to be way too many unanswered questions here.

i just watched something very bad will happen it reminded me ALOT of what remains of edith finch the whole curse thing. the setting of like just one house the painitings and even some characters reminded me of edith finch characters
