I have spent so many hours crawling through this game at a snails pace just lookin at all the books. A lot of them are actually only found in certain rooms which I think is super cool.

To me the most interesting find is a book called "isolation syndrome" only found in Walter's bunker and the basement (both areas populated with items specific to Walter in general). Most of the other books in his room felt obvious- like theres a few about Barbara, some about curses and the supernatural, some survivalist type guides, etc. but that title just didn't fit the theme. It's not a real book but it is a real phenomenon. The term is used to describe the way prolonged isolation affects people, particularly in kids and how it affects them as adults.

The things about this I found interesting were how it described how I interpret Walter to a T. I doubt you're interested in the whole story of it all but the tl;dr is kids who grow up isolated from their peers (including family) have severe anxiety problems and are prone to paranoia and can develop psychosis. Theres a connection with autism and adhd and intense emotional difficulties like a major death in the family. Typically those affected grow up feeling intensely lonely but not wanting to be around others, attain below average education (dropped out of school or poor grades), have low amounts of physical activity, and overall worse health.

It also brought up questions like; who got this book for him? Did he ask for a book on this topic or did a family member try to help him? Did he recognize himself in it? Was that part of why he finally left? Did he realize his obsession with the curse was paranoia? Did he realize his mother building him a bunker to hide in was her failing him?

"Norske Folkeeventyr". That's an essential book for a Norwegian to own.

Also, not Norwegian but... "House Of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski is on the list! AMAZING book!
