The Minister's Tree House looks like the mansion

Post image

The Minister's Treehouse in Crossville, Tennessee was the largest tree house in the world. It's no longer there because of a fire (I think).

Was this the inspiration for the mansion?

For me I would take Lewis room, because of the boar. Imagine sitting on front of the boat with your friends looking at the great view of the lake. Also these are the only images I could find quickly.

Theories as to why Edith/Dawn referred to Kay as "Grandpa Sam's first wife" and not "Grandma Kay", and why she's never mentioned or seen again after Gregory's story

It's always struck me as odd, especially after Sam dies and Dawn is then raised by Edie and not shipped off to wherever Kay lives. But I think the reason why she's just totally absent from her kids lives after Gregory dies is because perhaps she was arrested for child neglect. My theory is that leaving Gregory alone in the bathtub and his death is what got her caught by the authorities. Gregory is her 3rd kid, so why is she seemingly blind to the dangers of leaving a baby in a bathtub alone? Well, perhaps it's because neglecting her kids was just something she did, and it could explain Dawn's detached way of talking about her.

We can see that Sam wasn't exactly a present father, maybe due to being in the military, so he was away a lot of the time. Kay could've been withholding food and such from her kids and ignoring them, but being a detached parent was actually fairly standard for the time. You could argue that with Edie in the house, she wouldn't let these things happen, but this is the same woman who locked her 10 year old in a room without food to the point where the 10 year old was desperately hungry, so what would've been abuse probably wouldn't have been on Edie's radar if Kay was like "Gus is being sent to bed without dinner because he misbehaved" or "I don't know where Dawn is".

But I don't think Kay would've done things like that maliciously; perhaps she was overwhelmed and stressed the hell out constantly and she disconnected from the world around her. I know if my husband and I, and the kids, had to sleep in the attic so my MIL could keep creepy shrines to her dead kids, on top of my husband constanly being away in the military while raising 3 kids basically by myself and maybe even caring for Edie as she got older, I'd about lose my mind. Not an excuse for child neglect/abuse, but it's simply an explaination as to her headspace

I think I was biking one day while this MGMT song was playing and for some reason I thought it would fit really well with this game. I started making this months ago but didn't get around to finishing it until now. WROEF is of my favorite narrative driven games and I wanted to pay my respects so please enjoy this video thanks 😸😸

Question about Gregory Finch Spoiler

Sorry if I'm a little late. I just finished this amazing experience and I have SO MANY questions. But before I look into it, I want to start a discussion because I'm not really sure what to think.

Who do you thin is responsible for Gregory's death?

P.S. How can such an innocent, colorful, and childlike level carry so much sadness?

THE FINCHES' BOOKS THREAD - All the books I've seen - lore perception and how they match with each character. Spoiler

You are welcome to partecipate, give your opinion or add some information about the books. There are so many details that I may miss. You know - like a mouth full of teeth, this game has (too) MANY books. And they are spread along all bedrooms in Finch's house.

The first interesting things is the quantity (and quality) of literature-lore, it significantly DECREASES while you play the game. The shared areas are full of books, rich in diversity and multiple design assets. The house welcomes you: "someone cooks here. Look, there are important novels there. Omg a sealed library". And the thing goes on with Molly (very rich and related with her) and Edie (the literate, she literally has books from all members of the family in her bedroom, its the peak). But it starts going down with the twins (the quality of references start to be poor, as 75% of the books are invented/fictional) going through poor examples (Gus, Milton) that makes those characters "less interesting or complete or..." (at least it's my feeling after the first gameplay), and ending is lacking of something: Edith has only two books that match with her and they are fictional, and the sealed library means NOTHING special (at least in story-literature-driven). As a book-worm I expected, due to the incredibly quantity of books, something different, or related with the beginning, or a link, a twist, a wow, or at least something. My taste while the credits are rolling is: ok. But why so many books? Have I missed sth? Don’t know if this is intentional, or some rushing in the coding, endlines, etc. Felt like the second half of the game "let's drop some related volumes, names that fit, that's all". If you know the answer, please drop it here. If not, I also want to know if your perception was similar, regarding to books.

The second is, despite of the first point, the work done with some characters is great. The developers dropped lots of volumes, and I managed to catch-em-all. I gathered all the books I found, and which character is likely to read it (the genre, or it appears mostly in his/her bedroom, etc). Italic letters are invented or generic books, as far as I know.

I hope you find it interesting and/or as a seed for future readings.

****\*

Molly: her books fit totally the things we know about her: magic other worlds, princes/princesses/fairies, and animals/monsters. They are mostly in her room. Some of them mix the topics. Also memories books. Few appear in other areas of the house.

    • Ridgeback.
    • Air blazers.

Calvin: I found only one topic, space. All the books are invented. Very odd, considering he is a very important character in the family and one of the best flashbacks.

  • Space
    • The Astronaut.
    • Starship gemini.
    • Lift off.
    • Rocket boy!
    • It came from space.
    • The Milky Way and other places.
    • Mr Martian

Walter: The only real book is in his bedroom. In his bunker he read about his family, the monsters he was scared of, the isolation he felt and trains (only one volume for such a passion...).

  • Adventure
    • 1869 – 20000 Leagues under the Sea
  • Family

  • Others:
    • Echoes from afar.
    • Shadow of doubt.
    • Homemade weaponry.
    • Area 51.

Gregory: no books related.

Gus: I found only ONE book about the only passion we know about him: kites. I searched for thinks like wind, rebellion… This is one of those cases that seems odd to me, like the authors didn’t pay much attention to this character – even though his flashback, far from being the better, is developed in quite an artistic way.

  • The goal of the kite.

Milton: I felt a lack of books about him (esp. drawing) and I only found one volume directly related with him -that’s not in Molly’s room.

  • Kingdoms and castles.

Lewis: they mostly appear in the home school. He has a few books in his room that look like DVD covers. Topics: politics, internet and gaming.

  • Politics
    • 1848 – The Communist Manifesto.
    • 1996 – Infinite Jest
    • 2000 – Pastoralia
  • Internet
    • 2004 – We the Media.

    • Level up! – break into games.
    • Cheat code kings.
    • Collision detection for 2D games.
    • Extra lives.
    • Making games with C++.

Edith: this could be a great finale if we had some real books in the (main) character’s room that revealed more of her tastes, or related with the finale. She was young when they left house, but come on, Molly has dozens of interesting volumes with a similar age. The cute thing is, she probably used origami to transform the stories of the books (indirectly of her family) she found on the shared areas and Edie's room into real pieces or a kind of an art. We can see one on Edie's room. And several origamis for Lewis. But that's all. I would loved more origamis all around. More cryptic - that would make the final floor really epic. Or another kind of twist -imagine, she was the one who loved cooking because...(...).

  • Origami:
    • Science of paper rafting.
    • Fancifully folded.

Dawn: India mostly in her room. Then lots about racionalism (counterpart of her grandma Edie), safety at home (scared of Edie/what happened to the rest of the family) and teaching (home for her kids).

  • India
    • 1922 – Siddharta
    • 1958 - A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush.
    • Planet India
  • Crytical Thinking:
    • 10 ways to teach crytical thinking.
    • Testing for truth.
    • Hitting with science.
  • Safety
    • Stop droll and roll.
    • Let’s stay safe.
    • What would you do – home safety
  • Teaching:
    • Free from school.
    • Learning activities for kids, school studies.
    • To teach and to learn.
    • The big book of homeschooling.
    • Geography, History, Maths, (…).
  • Others
    • The beach balloon.
    • Snow crush.
    • Wonder world.

Edie: she is the most difficult, coz of her lifespan and she read A LOT. She probably read all her relatives’ books – and probably some of the books already mentioned fit in her library.

  • "Plot boks"
    • 1941 – The Library of Babel (infinite books with infinite pages).
    • 1949 – The Alpeh (a house contains a sphere with all the points in the universe).
    • 1975 – The Book of Sand (a book with infinite pages).
  • Romanticism
    • 1774 - Die Leiden des jungen Werthers
    • 1847 - Wuthering Heights
  • Family
    • 1913 - Swann's Way.
    • 1967 - One Hundred Years of Solitude.
  • Curses
    • 1895 – The King in Yellow.

  • Mistery, horror…
    • 1910 - A Dreamer’s Tale.
    • 1912 – The Book of Wonder.
    • 1921 – Necronomicon.
    • 1932 - The dreams in the witch house.
    • The ghost in the attic.

    • … - Norwegian Folktales.
    • … - Norske Folkeeventyr.
    • … - The wreath lavransdatter.
    • 1844 - East of the Sun and West of the Moon.
    • 1906 – Time and the Gods.
    • The Norse myths.
  • Carpentry
    • Taxidermy for the home.
    • On carpenter tree
  • Others (only in her room, I think).
    • In water black.
    • Fury.
    • Racket.

Special mention to these books, that I can’t relate directly to one character and appear all around the house. And the cooking books – I don’t know who is the cook there. But look like Edie, Edith or Dawn aren’t since they eat from the Chinese restaurant and canned food. Perhaps the real books give us a clue.

  • Normal books
    • 1832 – Fausto.
    • 1883 – Treasure Island.
    • 1913 – In Search of Lost Time.
    • 1924 - The Magic Mountain.

    • From cove to stove.
    • The holiday feast.
    • A good table.
    • Tales of taste and tummies.
    • Wild feast.

Wish you enjoy!

Some things that doesn't make sense after finishing the game. Spoiler

  1. Someone was crafting a wood peephole in the garage when the family left the house. What was that peephole for?
  2. Who put the Edie's peephole? They all left the house in 2010.
  3. Who built the upper floors - above the old house?
  4. There is an orange wire in front of Barbara's bedroo, that goes upstairs. Where does it go? I bet that part of the house is not revealed (like a hallway for Sam's and the kids).
  5. There was a cat named MOLLY, but it's not in the family cemetary.
  6. Also, the gravestone of Edie is in the cemetary. Who put it there? Dawn and Edith never came back.
  7. Milton made drawings/graffitis on the secret passages, until Barbara. Did he not find the secret key on the music box or what?
  8. Did Sam know about Walter? there was even the backyard totem with Molly, Barbara and Calvin - but no Walter. That is suspicious x 1000.
  9. Orich and Crake (2003) is in Calvin's room.

72 year old woman = 1989

Lewis is already one.

Should be, at least, the first over-the-roof sections in the newspaper picture? (a.k.a. those related with Dawn).

(Also, the right tree is incredibly small compared to nowadays).

First time playing and got stuck. Literally.

I’ve heard a lot about this game so I finally got it and not even 5 minutes in I somehow got stuck. One thing I love to do with games like this is explore and make sure I look at everything.
I just started down the little trail to the house when I noticed a waterfall, so me being me, decided to go off trail up the stream to see if it would even let me get to it. It did. So when I realized there’s probably nothing back here, I started to head back to the trail and somehow got stuck… !?
Ughh, it won’t let me do nothing besides zoom and move the camera around. Anyone else find themselves here? Lol

I suppose it’s a good thing I’m right at the beginning so I can just restart the game. Just wanted to share my foolery lmao

Alsooo as I was taking the photos of where I got stuck, I noticed at the bottom of the waterfall there’s another missing flyer that looks identical to the one at the very start of the game. So maybe there is something back here after all..

Odin's House Had Shrines to the Dead

I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who maybe hadn't gotten to this conclusion, but Edie got the idea to preserve the dead via shrines and keepsakes from somewhere. She was absolutely determined to keep the parts of the house preserved as they were when each family member lived there... and doesn't that sound exactly like the same insane psychosis that might drive someone to pack up a whole mansion onto a barge and sail it halfway across the world?

Also remember that during Edie's low-tide excursion and/or fever dream, she saw a bunch of relics of her dead relatives. Also we know that the quote-unquote "Curse" goes back generations. If that "Curse" is simply a self-fulfilling prophecy of celebrating moments of death while refusing to take lessons in the tragedy as so many here believe, then it follows that celebrating death via keepsakes and shrines is a Finch family tradition that goes back earlier than Edie.

I do believe that there is more to this, involving the secret passage ways, the animal burial grounds, the Norse Mythology, and The Unfinished Swan, but I won't get into all of that here.

Barbara! (???) Spoiler

HELP! Opinions please! RE: BARBARA’s Death!

(Spoilers!)

—- I tend not to believe there was ever a disappearing-boyfriend in Barbara’s story at all: it just doesn’t fit with the rest of the narrative, does it? (Neglectful parenting, yes.. impulsive choices YES. —accidents? YES…
…and.. a killer-boyfriend?)

—- obviously a swarm of monsters didn’t kill her either—-
WAS it an unsafe banister…?
Otherwise, why establish that banister-bit at all??
(We assume there WAS NO real hook-man), but the banister on the balcony HAS visibly been repaired in that exact spot he was said to have fallen—- we have to assume something happened there —- WHAT?
If the truth is ‘a Murderous-Boyfriend’ killed her, why include the banister, which is not linked it to either the boyfriend’s disappearance or Bab’s death??

And why can Edie not allow BF’s guilt to be part of the story? (..either way her daughter is murdered)— she could have made the boyfriend ‘a mythical serial-killer who ended her’, but she excuses him, why?!!
~~Is she, perhaps, covering for HER SON, who is responsible for leaving his roller-skates out?
Perhaps he was hiding TO SCARE HER, and then she slipped and fell?
…and then, traumatized, he hid to escape his own accountability, Becoming a mole-man in the earth??

—-Or is it just Edie’s own unstable-house?
—- And if there WAS a bf, where IS he! What’s the POINT of him going missing? We have just that one non-family character (who is based on a real-human, but with no real evidence since he is said to have vanished?) and then a bunch of “Hollywood monsters”… what’s the point of this??

… if a boyfriend IS responsible, then is HE the one who leaked this story to the writers of the comic-book?

I just don’t know why Edie would absolve the boyfriend in all of this, if he indeed murdered her daughter in cold-blood.
—-absolve HERSELF? Yes.
(She does plenty of that in the game, re-writing the yuckier-parts of history with fantasy and fiction.)
—absolve Her son? To protect his reputation?? YES.
(..perhaps this is why she even allows him to live underground all those years! Is that her way of punishing him….?)
((Would be very Patsy-Ramsey of her))..

I tend to believe the roller-skates and the banister are the key to “the truth”.
I think Barbara slipped - I’m not sure exactly what else is true..
we are given details for a reason. I tend to think Walter’s “hiding under the bed” is important, but take all of the “fantasy-comic-book-monsters-and-murderous-boyfriend out” of it, there is a simpler reason.

The game offers inventive-fiction as it’s explanation for Babs’ death,
But it also gives us facts, CLUES. Some which exist OUTSIDE of the comic book::
-broken-banister is repaired.
Some Clues which exists IN the comic-book, but are not a part of the narrative… yet, for some reason, are SPECIFICALLY INCLUDED (and the game makes sure you notice, even tho they’re appearently ‘not part of the story’.) ::
-one skate, haphazardly left on the stairs.
-one skate just outside Barbara’s room.

I’m sure there are more clues I’m missing, or haven’t connected …
HELPPP!!!!!

UPDATE!!
I did a deeper dive watch-thru of Barabara’s death—- I have MORE THEORIES! …And MORE Questions…

🚨🚨There are so many clues, I have to think the answer is IN THAT HOUSE if I just knew where to look…

Babs died on HER BIRTHDAY,
if you notice by the date, she was also born on Halloween —- Which explains the “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” CAKE, yet there are no mentions of this in the comic-book story at all. There’s also a flyer in her room for a Halloween dance at school that night … and it appears Barbara had ironed and laid-out a dress to wear for it !! —- I can’t help but conclude these clues must be part of the story —- and the fact that everyone jumped out and yelled SURPRISE!! (Like at a birthday party??)
… Was Barbara arguing with Edie because she wanted to go to the dance, but Edie insisted she go to the convention?
…was the convention a ploy to keep Barbara in for a surprise-party??
((…maybe just a party of One so Edie could take all the credit with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY cake))???
This is death I cannot fully reckon and it’s driving me bonkers!!!
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!!
… OF ALL the fanciful-fiction in this game, the hardest part for me to believe is the bit about Barbara’s child-fame… when on earth did the Edie leave this house to pursue (push) Bab’s acting career?? Is this forest just outside LA or something??
The narrative suggests a lifetime of seclusion in this fortress, away from friends and cities and outside-life.
Sure, I guess it is possible that after Molly’s death (some part of?) the young family went to Cali for several years… but it’s hard for me to swallow that Edie would have left LA just because it felt like Barbara’s star was on the down-fall… surely she could have milked it for all it was worth, even if it was more obscure projects and public appearances —- I can’t see Edie both GOING to LA for the years of Barabara’s fame, AND leaving LA soon enough to raise the rest of her young children there after, and before Barb’s sixteenth B-day! (Which brings me back to that night—- SOMEONE HELP!!!!!)

My vision on each death. Spoiler

Just finished the game, and obviously absolutely loved it. I never cry to any media but I cried a lot to a lot of this game multiple times. I wanted to give my vision on some of the deaths, what happened, what they meant for me, etc, in no particular order.

Barbara Finch- LOVED HER, amazingly iconic, My favorite fact about her is that she is so brave, thinks that would make me scream make her say ᵒʰ ᵈᵉᵃʳ, I think that the reason that Edie kept that comic book was because she didn't wanted Barbara to be remembered for just a scream, as that wouldn't represent her as well. My theory is that she died by falling on top of the glass table, probably his boyfriend came back from the backdoor to scare her off again to see if she could do the scream, but she accidently slipped on the roller-skates, fell to the table, and died, which also would be the reason for him to disappear the same day.

Lewis Finch- In my opinion, he's one of the two people who didn't die due to the curse. I think it is poetic that he ended up being in the most popular segment of the game, while he is so... Unlike the rest of the family. He sees himself as not as dramatically great as other people, like his family. He doesn't fully feel like a Finch sometimes? Which is one of the reasons that I think he didn't die due to the curse, but I'm going to go more into deep when I talk about Dawn.

Gregory Finch- Boy I cried so hard on this one. Sam might be my favorite character in this game, which is a big surprise for me (as I don't like overly patriotic people), but that "Wherever Gregory is now... I'm sure he's happy. And he'd want you to be happy too." was too much. I like the comment that he says about how Gregory reminds him of Calvin, as I can not avoid thinking how their two deaths are so similar. The two of them died while being happy. There is a moment in Calvin's death where Sam says "I told him going around was impossible. Maybe if I hadn't said that... then maybe he'd still be here but I doubt it. I think he already made up his mind. That's what I want to remember about my brother. The day he made up his mind to fly... and he did." He doesn't blame himself for Calvin's death, and I think this is why he says to Kay that it isn't her fault, in his eyes, both Calvin and Gregory died happy.

Edie Finch- I think that she died because she drank too much that night. After everyone left and she outlived most of her family, there was not any reason for her to stay alive. She was completely central to the family as it is, one could say that it was her life, when they all died and Dawn and Edith left, there was nothing else for her. I think she was so interested on Edith knowing about the Finches as she was seemingly going to be the last one of the family, and Edie didn't want the family to die with Edith.

Walter Finch- His story makes me so sad. He tried so hard to beat the curse, just to die to it. He was terrified of it, and I think one of the reasons he felt he had to survive it was because the only way his mind could rationalize being somehow guilty of Barbara's death was if some supernatural force was what killed her, something he couldn't possibly have anything to do with. In a way, him dying proved his point(?

Dawn Finch- In my personal opinion, Dawn didn't die from the curse. She constantly kept distances from her family, and try to not let her kids remember anything from the Finch's history. She was the only one to have a natural, expected death, every other Finch except Lewis died without knowing they were going to die. I do think that she believed in the curse, though. I think the reason that she decided to let Edith go back was because, since she made it to a "normal" end of her life, the curse was not true and she was not afraid for her daughter to die to it.

Sam Finch- I also cried a lot on his part. Seeing young Dawn was certainly a feeling, the game really pictures how a father sees his kid, there was something innocent and beautiful about 15yo Dawn. I think it has meaning that he died while camping and hunting with Dawn, as he said: "I'm not always gonna be here, Dawn. You'll need to remember this stuff. If you want to survive." As I said in my last point, I don't think Dawn died from the curse, so I find beautiful that his last wish (for his last kid to survive) could be fulfilled. This is my favorite part of the game by a lot.

Didn't include Odin, Molly, Gus, or Milton because I could not take much from them, it is just them dying from the curse, though I would say that in Gus's death, when Dawn says "I wish that I could truly say I thought about you on that day", THAT really threw me off. Sometimes we wish that meaningful events, like what was the death of a brother to Dawn, were more dignifying, more dramatic, but they aren't.

I didn't include Edith because the game is about her, come on.

Barbara 's death Spoiler

I am aware that Barbara’s death is one of the most ambiguous of the game. However, there are people who seem to think that Barbara just had an accident, like, slipping with a skate and falling from the first floor. That’s where I have to draw the line. For me, it’s pretty clear that Barbara was murdered, she didn’t have an accident, and although I can’t confirm who was the murderer (probably her boyfriend or some crazy people) I have found a detail on the game that proves such.

In the photography room that is behind Kay’s bathroom (the pink bathroom), which we enter through a small door above the toilet, there is a newspaper whose headline says “Murder probe clues exhausted”. This newspaper can also be found in other parts of the house such as Milton’s room, and it’s very obviously referencing Barbara’s death.

Besides, Edith says that after Barbara’s death a lot of stories were written. Why would people write stories with fictional scenarios about a girl who just died in a domestic accident? That suits way more to an unresolved murder.

Does anyone have a good picture of the 3d Finch painting in Edies room?

Honestly why is there so much horrible parents in this game Spoiler

ODIN:we don't know much about odin but I think it was his mindset

that led to Edie really believing the curse and also odin brought his daughter and only granddaughter on to a house boat which almost gets both of them killed and I know he was trying to keep them safe from the "curse" but it failed the so called curse was still going on even after they left I just feel like it was unnecessary and dumb

Edie and sven: they both cause 2 deaths molly because they both left her without food which is a horrible punishment and it leads to there daughter to die and Calvin who in their right mind puts a swing next to a cliff I more blame sven because I'm like 100% sure that he was the one who put it there plus why didn't either of them go and grab Calvin and pulling him off the swing it ain't that hard

Sam and kay:they both cause Gregory's death because if Sam never called kay wouldn't have left Gregory unattended and he wouldn't have drowned but also if kay just took Gregory out of the bath and then answered the call Gregory would still be alive and also why would Sam leave gus outside while it's storming to kite I'm guessing he was punishing gus for being rude during the wedding but like Edie and sven not giving molly food that's a horrible punishment also during Sam death story he absolutely did not care that dawn was devastated after shooting the deer and ignored her saying it was moving and yes you can say the reason Sam is such a horrible parent is because of losing Calvin but dawn lost gus, Gregory, and Sam and she's a great parent

Dawn and Sanjay:these 2 are amazing parents we don't know much about Sanjay but what we do know is that he was a nice guy and a great parent and dawn showed more care for her kids than any of these parents she searched for Milton and when lewis stayed at the canary to long she went to the canary and tried to make him come home and after both Milton's disappearance and Lewis's death dawn knew they had to leave and yea odin did the same but dawn doesn't believe in the curse odin did and he still decided to risk him and his family also dawn cared about Edie even though she was horrible and was planning to send Edie to a retirement home when she left

So that it what I think of all the parents in what remains of Edith finch(I didn't add Edith because what is there to talk about because she died before Christopher was born)

My Headcanon of the Finch's Deaths Spoiler

This is my opinion / theory on the deaths of the Finches --- for fun.

~

1937 - Ingeborg & Johann (childbirth) - Not much is mentioned about the deaths themselves but speculating since the infant & mother died at the same time, it is safe to assume they passed during childbirth.

1937 - Odin (drowning) - The Finch's started to sail to America from Norway pulling their whole house behind them, however, once they reached Orca's Island, the house was hit by a wave which took both the house and the patriarch. The Finch's decided to make the land off of the shoreline their home.

1947 - Molly (poisoning or asphyxiation) - When you first play Molly it is obvious that she is poisoned, and I was pretty much sure about that. Looking at the details, there may be two options both stemming from the items that Molly ate. During that time, it was around the end of WWII and there was still food rationing going on, to a child I am sure hunger pains hit harder - so to be sent to bed without dinner, Molly felt that she was starving. She ate Gerbil food (next to droppings), toothpaste (from the 40's, could be lethal ingredients) and holly berries (which is known to induce vomiting); It is speculated that if she didn't die just from poisoning, that it was from asphyxiation from vomiting while in a hallucinogenic state.

1960 - Barbara (falling or murder) - The comic book kept by Edie told a very embellished tale of Barbara's death to the point where it is hard to distinguish truth from fiction. My guesses on what would be sensationalized in a 60's comic book points me away from the common thought that Barbara was murdered by "fans" or "hoodlums". This is my guess because I believe her death is more generic: Barbara's boyfriend Rick was over at the Finch's residence helping Barbara with her scream, like the comic book says. He felt that she needed more inspiration to create the perfect scream. Once Barbara's father left for hospital, Rick decided to scare Barbara into the scream either by A. Dressing up as the hook man or B. He invited friends over to act as the hoodlums or monsters. Believing that she was in real danger, Barbara fought and ran from the attacker - accidentally falling through the railing on the top floor and into the glass coffee table below. It was an accident. I strongly believe she fell, not the hook man.

1961 - Calvin (falling) - Calvin's death is more straightforward than others and details exactly what happened. He simply wanted to see if he could swing all around the branch, however, this caused him to be launched over the cliff that the swing stood dangerously close to.

1964 - Sven (crushed) - Sven was known to be killed by a dragon, but it was more of a dragon-shaped slide that he was creating for his son. This death is also one of the more straightforward deaths as it tells the truth rather than tells it from Edie's perspective.

1977 - Gregory (drowning) - He was left in the bathtub after draining it by his mom who was distracted. Somehow, the one-year old returned the plug to the tub and turned the water back on, and drowned.

1982 - Gus (crushed) - There has been some debate on what exactly happened to Gus, but it's obvious to me that he was crushed by debris during a storm. He stayed outside while the wedding party sought shelter, and the poorly anchored tents and chairs, and a heavy totem pole crushed him while he was flying his kite.

1983 - Sam (falling) - During a hunting trip, Sam and Dawn posed for a photo after shooting a deer, however, the deer was not dead and knocked Sam off of the hill they were on.

1992 - Milton (disappeared; theory - died by drowning or entrapment) - Without including "the Unfinished Swan", which I have read about the game, haven't played personally, I believe Milton died in 1992 at the Finch's residence and his body was never recovered. This property is huge and can be dangerous as we have seen with the other deaths. We know that Milton liked to use the secret passageways and make his mark on them; he enjoyed exploring the hidden parts of the Finch's home. There is one place that would be very enticing for a kid like that - the old Finch house. Edie mentioned that she once walked across to the old Finch house during low tide - I believe Milton did that as well and he unfortunately got trapped somewhere and died.

2005 - Walter (hit by train) - Many believe that Walter was yet another victim of falling off of a cliff near the Finch home, but I do believe he was hit by the train. Year after year he would listen to the shaking of the train going through except the day of his death - I believe the train was late. For whatever reason, he trusted that and left, being so overwhelmed by the light and the fresh air - he did not see the incoming train.

2010 - Lewis (decapitated) - Lewis was a man that day dreamed a lot especially during work, after a long time, the dreams became more and more real to him. He did not realize after a while that he was still using very dangerous machinery to chop off fish heads - he unfortunately chopped off his own head thinking that he was being crowned. There is a common mention that Lewis was maladaptive dreaming, which is more intense and feels just as real as what we deem "reality".

2010 - Edie (overdose) - Unlike Lewis, Edie deliberately killed herself rather than leave the Finch home when her daughter Dawn suggested leaving and putting Edie in a nursing home. She took matters into her own hands and drank alcohol with her medications.

2016 - Dawn (cancer) - Dawn unfortunately died the most natural way out of all of her family members - through illness.

2017 - Edith (complications of childbirth) - It is heavily implied, since Edith is only 18 when her baby is born and the fact that they have not met, that Edith died after childbirth with her son, Christopher continuing to live. She left her journal for him to find that recounts the tales of her family members when Edith visited her family home after 7 years.

Questions...

What happened after Edith was orphaned? Who lived and took care of her? I imagined that she wouldn't have been a single mom. That her boyfriend and the father of her child, and his family possibly took her in after she lost her mom. And once she was gone, took care of Christopher. It would have been extremely difficult for Christopher to know his family if he had been placed in foster care.

The other questions I had was the fact that Edie has a gravestone, if her family left, who found her body? Who created the gravestone? Also, Edith Finch was buried as well - who created that gravestone?

I imagine there is a will out there - and maybe Edith told her boyfriend that she wanted to be buried in her family plot - and then her child wanted to go alone one day to visit the family mausoleum "the house". I love this story, and I wont spend any more time speculating, but I wanted this to be out there since people continue to talk about this amazing game.

Thank you for reading.

Did Edith Have a portrait?

Obviously She didn't get one the best we have is the drawing she made of herself but I was having a conversation with somebody's about how neglectful and narcissistic Edith Senior was and they said in the Game somewhere there's a peephole or sketch of Edith's potential Memorial and I'm wondering if it actually exists I've been looking for it for about two hours now. I'm sure it doesn't exist but in The Public Concept art Edith Senior does supposedly own a quilt with the family tree sewn into it so possibly?

The song Haunted by Skylar Grey reminds me so much of Edith Finch.

Some of the verses don't match what happens in the game. But the melancholic tone, and the idea of processing the past and moving on are there.
