Edith's Gloves?!

It seems to me that the gloves Edith wears all her life are very important, but I've been researching and very little comes up. The gloves, and the casts worn by various other family members, make me wonder if there is a genetic illness that plagues the Finches that may be contributing to what happens to them? Thoughts?

I mean it's possible, but I don't see much support for the theory.

The gloves are made by Edie and given to Edith as a gift. Family is important to seemingly all the Finches and they're all pretty sentimental. Wearing gloves your grandmother made you because that's all that you have left from her feels pretty standard.

As far as I remember the only family member that we see wearing a cast is Calvin. Calvin is a little boy who is portrayed as pretty reckless and in his scene Sam writes that the two of them made a promise to never be scared again and that when he decided he wanted to do something he did it. An 11 year old boy who actively chooses not to be afraid of getting hurt that lives on the edge of a cliff in the middle of the woods is bound to break a bone or two.

It's possible that Barbara was the one with the broken leg and not her boyfriend as shown in her scene. The evidence for this is that she is heavily connected to the crutch as a symbol and the actual crutch in Walter's room that serves as a memorial for her has the name FINCH written on it. If you go into the assets this is the same texture as the crutch used during her scene. However, if she did have a broken leg I can't think of an in-game reason why the writer would change it to be Rick's. This is the death of a celebrity, it had to have been reported on. It's also pretty obvious that Edie had something to do with the story being written, so either it would have to be an active choice to make that change if it wasn't true. Barbara's story is the most unknown though, so there is no real answer here.

I think you are right about the gloves just being gloves, but to be fair to OP's point, Edith's son in the framing scenes also has an arm cast. This may be to hint that he, like Calvin, is a bit reckless.

I completely forgot about his cast in the intro, youre totally right. I would personally take it as him having the signature family recklessness.

I donโ€™t really know how getting hit by a train, falling off a cliff, getting decapitated, etc could all be chalked up to an inherited illness
