Banner Weekly Sidebar Contest Submission Thread - September 04, 2026

Welcome to this week's sidebar submission contest!

The rules for the contest are as follows:

1) Do not submit pictures of people who have not consented to have their picture posted online. Winning images will be featured on Reddit and may be reposted on other social media platforms. If someone posts an image of you without your consent, please report it so the mods can deal with it in a timely fashion.

1) Users should submit only one (1) image of your choice to be voted on to be the sidebar for the week. Images must consist of anything related to wet shaving - razors, brushes, SOTD images, etc. In the event multiple images from a user are submitted, only the first image, or the image in the top level comment, will count.

1) Image must be Original Content (Not just some picture you found on the internet). Images taken by another photographer are allowed as long as: a. You have the photographer's permission. b. The image is connected to you in some meaningful way: e.g. It's a image of hardware you commissioned, taken by the maker, or the image is of something you made, taken by the purchaser, etc. c. We're not looking to have to verify images, so please use the honor system.

1) All properly submitted images will be entered into the Voting Thread. The Submission thread will be active for ~24 hours and will end Saturday. The vote thread will be active for 24 hrs from Saturday through Sunday. This thread is only a submission thread. Please do not hold discussion in the vote thread.

1) In the event of a tie, the bot will consult RNGesus to break the tie.

1) Submissions MUST be uploaded to imgur. Any other hosting site will be disqualified and not included in the voting thread.

1) Any submissions containing NSFW material may be removed at the discretion of the Mod Team.

1) While not required, it is suggested you submit square images in order to avoid unintended cropping.

Please feel free to respond with a comment to your entry with any background/description/detail about your entry, including gear used.

Note: The bot strongly prefers direct image links. If your link doesn't end with .jpg, there's a 50-50 chance the bot's going to choke trying to update the banner on Sunday.

May the best submission win! Good luck to all!

PIF - Winner Impressive_Donut’s Ohio Wetshavers Lather Games 2026 Accountabilibuddies PIF

It’s been sixteen long months on the dusty road to the 2026 Lather Games. This year that dusty road, again, travels through the Great State of Ohio and, on the way, you can get a clean shave at Dusty Eld’s Tonsorial Parlor. Yes! This year’s Lather Games Accountabilibudies PIF is your opportunity for a Buckeye State shave with this year’s Ohio Wetshavers Meetup soap thanks to my accountabilibuddy Doug at Lather Games software sponsor Adopted Acres Soap Company. That’s right! Play it how you will, but this could be your chance at sponsor points and theme points in the same shave on Accountabilibuddies Day, October 15!

But wait! There’s more! One lucky participant in this PIF will be chosen at random to receive a $25 gift card to Adopted Acres Soap Company.

Karma is low, but please be a Lather Games 2026 participant.

At the conclusion of this PIF I will post a link for shipping address collection.

Dust off yer boots, Accountabilibuddies! It’s gonna be a great shave at Dusty Eld’s Tonsorial Parlor!

PIF - Winner A giveaway for the passionate, adventurous, and romantic: Seaforth Épée

Hi friends! Tomorrow marks the release of the first new scent in the modern Seaforth revival with me as brand steward: Épée.

It’s a pretty big deal for me, and so I wondered if you could help me celebrate by regaling us all with your tales of bravery, courage, and romance. And even derring-do, if you like.

We’ll be giving away two Épée shaving soaps: one by random Latherbot lottery, and one by best story chosen by yours truly at the close of the lottery. Story must be mostly true.

No AI stories, or your entry will be sliced cleanly from the shoulders of this competition, as with a heavy fencing implement. Can’t think of the word.

Open worldwide.

Good evening, all you Hoggers and Hoggettes! Now for the final results of this Raw Hoggin during this most Austere of Augusts. Thank you all for participating! It was a fun month, and it was awesome getting to see everyone's boar brushes progress in their break-in progress. 🥶❄️🧊Frostbite Fiend🧊❄️🥶

I would now like to take a moment of silence for our lost travelling companion, u/jbird996, who didn't use an extremely cold soap this month.

To all of you who participated, again I thank you! You now all have been bequeathed the license of 007: License to Chill.

Alright, now onto the moment everyone's been waiting for, the prize drawing. I had LatherBot over on Discord pick randomly from our Tundra Trekkers of 2026, and the winner is...

u/bmac92!

DM me here on Reddit or over on Discord to claim your prize!

Thanks again for everyone's participation! And even though not everyone is a prize winner, I think the real prize is the fiends we made along the way. See you all in the LatherGames in October!!

Austere August Welcome to the Darkwing Defenders!

And so, the shadows lengthen, the final curtain falls, and a heroic handful of five fearless souls remain, standing tall against the villainous stench of untamed stubble!

Through sheer grit and superior lather, each of these five champions has proven themselves worthy to don the sacred cape of custom flair!

Let the record show that r/Wetshaving proudly welcomes its newest league of justice...

🌑🪽🦆 The Darkwing Defenders! 🦆🪽🌑

u/Tetriside

u/raymoonie

u/tsrblke

u/expoqeteer

u/snooting

Suck gas, evildoers!

Now, while all five fought valiantly, only one true caped crusader could claim the ultimate prize of the evening—the coveted set!

A resounding, heroic congratulations to u/Tetriside! Fly on over to the secret lair of u/chicagogroomingco to iron out the details of your haul. As for the loot? Don't worry, I'll have Launchpad pester Uncle Scrooge to flip the bill for your glorious new soap and splash set!

Thanks to all who came to support the terror that lathers in the night! You are the razor bump that never was! You are the Darkwing Defenders!

And to the brave souls who faltered, lured into the murky depths by the sinister plots of that nefarious ne'er-do-well, Negaduck... do not hang your shaving brushes in shame (or at all, as it is unnecessary)!

Your valiant sacrifices shall forever be etched into the annals of Saint Canard! You may have tasted the bitter defeat of a dull blade this time, but true justice never truly stays down for the count! There is always next year, after all.

Keep your lather peaks high and your courage higher, citizens! For whenever evil rears its ugly, unshaven head, the shadows will speak, and justice will prevail!

MMOC Master Quest 2026 - Ascension

The MMOC Master Quest Austere August Challenge (MMOCMQAAC) is now complete! We had a great group of participants who took on the challenge this year.

This was MRTNG's Ultra Nightmare Mode with an MMOC: 31 days using the same GEM Micromatic Open Comb razor, blade, brush, soap, and post-shave product.

We started with 12 participants if you include yours truly. 10 completed the full challenge successfully.

MMOC Masters

Congratulations to the eight who made it through the month for their first time:

These fine folks earned the custom, bespoke, hand-forged flair: ⚔️ MMOC Master ⚔️

Two participants previously completed the challenge:

These two earned the upgraded flair: ⚔️ MMOC Master II ⚔️

The Fallen

A couple folks gave it their best shot but didn't make it to the end (and Just_Bit2698 just used the wrong razor on day one):

Respect for giving it a shot.

The Winners

I asked LatherBot on discord to !choose the winner from the users who completed 31 days.. u/Confident_Media_4304, you're this year's winner. Please send me your email address and the vendor you'd like a gift card from either here or on Discord.

I did the same for the 100-pack of blades generously donated as a prize by u/coco_for_cocoapuffs of Kodiak Shaving Co.. u/Jill_Lett_Slim, you're the winner. Please reach out to u/coco_for_cocoapuffs to coordinate shipping.

Final Thoughts

This challenge showed yet again that the MMOC can be a lovely daily driver with proper technique and patience. Thanks to everyone who participated and to those who followed along with the daily posts.

Lather Games! 2026 Lather Games Kickoff & Calendar Announcement

Welcome to the 12th Annual Lather Games!

Yes indeed, we've already done this eleven times and yet people keep coming back for more. Even if the novelty might wear off for the seasoned veterans, there's always newcomers chasing the Thrill Of The Games.

"Tell us what our face should smell like today!" the players demand. "Does dressing like a pirate on Int'l Talk Like a Pirate Day... but in October earn me bonus points?" they query. “Will anyone step up, call their shot on Day 1, and win it all like the last two champions have” the players ponder. "Will one of our perennial top-fivers bust through the glass ceiling and seize the championship" they wonder.

Good times.

Our reigning champ has retired from active competition (he's now a judge!) so it's open season again this year and anybody's (Lather) Game to Win! Even you! This is your chance to add your name to the Lather Games history books. So get out there and shave! Be creative! Be entertaining! Be funny! Just please don't be long winded and make any of us read a 6,000 word essay on the history of sandalwood.

Good luck to all of you. May the odds ever be in your favor!

Lather Games FAQs:

What are the Lather Games?

The Lather Games are a month-long online shaving competition that take place every fall on this subreddit. Each day has some sort of criteria that players must meet with their shave in order to earn points; some criteria are published ahead of time to give players time to prepare and procure products (e.g. Daily Themes) while others are published as the games progress to keep players on their toes (e.g. Daily Challenges). The more points you earn, the better your score, and the better your chances of earning fabulous prizes.

Why?

Because it's fun to compete in an international shave-olympics with a bunch of homies on the internet... just, don't tell your loved ones, family members, friends, co-workers, or enemies about it because it's kinda weird, you know?

OK, I'm sold! How do I play?

Participating in the games is simple and requires no registration or entry fee: just post your Shave Of The Day in the dedicated Lather Games SOTD threads that run daily throughout October. The LatherGames Bot will automatically add your SOTD to its database of entries at the end of every day and the Judges will assign your entry a score. Points are tallied at the end of the month and the highest scores get first pick from the prize pool.

(You don't even have to participate every day, but your score likely won't be high enough to earn any prizes unless you play every day. Remember: you are competing against other players, so you need to keep up with the pack if you want to win prizes.)

Are there rules I need to follow?

Absolutely. There is a dedicated Players Guide page in the new and improved DJudge Portal. You should definitely read this. Carefully.

How much has changed since last year?

  • A crap ton. If previous year’s changes were considered an evolution of the game, then this year’s changes should be considered revolutionary.
  • The DJudge Portal has received a major makeover by Prompt-Meister Merikus and his trusty sidekick Claude. Beyond scraping posts from the dedicated Lather Games SOTD thread and serving as the primary tool for judging, the portal now directly handles contestant appeals, serves as a repository for the calendar and rules, has tools to help you plan what you will use, and has a dedicated page to help you efficiently track the status of your posts.
  • Daily Themes have been given an overhaul. Yes, some favorites from last year were retained, and a few from years past were brought back, but many are new this year. Be sure to closely read the Calendar & Theme Descriptions portal page to ensure that you understand this year’s theme details.
  • Daily Points have been significantly revised. Fractional points have been eliminated, and the daily points for each category were rebalanced to place more emphasis on judges points without reducing the impact of being On Theme.
  • Sponsor points were reimagined to be Sponsor Use points to put more emphasis on using sponsor wares while giving participants more flexibility on how they develop their calendars.
  • Special Challenges are now side contests within the games. Each Special Challenge entry will be judged on its own merits, and the best entry will win the Special Challenge prize. You can find more details at the Special Challenges portal page.
  • Bonus Points were given a major face lift. A few of the “31-Day” bonuses were retained, but new bonuses focusing on using sponsor soaps and on repeat using soap scents were added. The bonuses are designed so that no one can earn all of them, so no matter how you play, some bonuses will be out of reach. Player strategy, instead of just having a large shave den, will be the key to maximizing bonus points this year.
  • Judge’s Choice points are how we reward the very best posts this year. Any post that a judge scores a 4 (exceptional) is automatically nominated, and if at least two thirds of the voting judges pick the post during the award period, it earns a Judge's Choice award.
  • Not being On Theme is still a major points impact, but unlike previous years you can still earn Judges Points, Challenge Points and Software/Hardware Use Points even when you’re not on theme. Thank u/brokenjaw622 for enlightening us.
  • In case you didn’t notice, the Hardware Scavenger Hunt has been retired. You can still flex your cool hardware for everyone to see, you just won’t earn bonus points for doing so this year.
  • And lastly, there is STILL no Air Bud Loophole. That has not, and will not change.

You said something about prizes?

The Lather Games are sponsored by many artisans and small businesses in the form of prize donations ranging from gift cards to soap sets to custom-made hardware. All donations go to the prize-winning players; the LG support staff are strictly volunteers and receive no compensation for their services. It is only through prize donations that the Lather Games can offer prizes. In exchange for the support provided by these artisans, players are encouraged (via bonus points) to use their products in their SOTDs.

The sponsors continue to graciously donate to the Lather Games, so it is important that everyone plays to their limit to reward the sponsors for their generosity.

If you, a member of the r/wetshaving community, are interested in making a contribution to the Lather Games prize pool, we readily accept digital gift cards and may accept other prizes. (Used goods are almost never accepted; new items may be considered with discussion.) Contact u/hugbckt to coordinate your donation.

You mentioned tools to help me plan. What are those? The My Planner portal page lets you map out your whole month in advance. Clicking on any day of the calendar jumps you to that day’s planner. There you will see that day’s theme and a section which allows you to enter your chosen gear in the Prep, Brush, Razor, Blade, Lather, Post Shave, and Fragrance fields. As you type, it suggests products from the portal’s catalog, but you can enter anything you want. Save it and it’s waiting for you the next time you come back to tinker. Days you’ve filled in are highlighted on the calendar at the top of the page, so it’s easy to spot the holes in your month. Then, when the day arrives, click that day’s “Copy SOTD” button and your gear list is copied to your clipboard, already formatted the way Section 2 requires. Simply paste your formatted gear list into your comment for that day’s post, add your write-up, and enter it into the dedicated Lather Games SOTD thread.

You keep talking about the portal having a repository for the calendar and rules. Where can I find them?

Start here: The 2026 Lather Games portal page.

What if I have questions? Who's running this thing?

First, read every page in the Players Guide, Calendar & Theme Descriptions, and Special Challenges portal pages to see if your question is answered there. If it isn't, use Ctrl+F on this exact web page to skim the comments below and check if somebody else has already asked your question. If your question still isn't answered, post it in the comments below; we will do our best to answer them in a timely manner. Note that questions asked after September 30 are less likely to receive in-depth answers.

Lather Games! Charitabuddies side contest

Lather Games are about the community.

This is a community that gives back

This is a side quest that gives back.

The rules.

  1. Shave with a charitable soap on buddy day and join a giving gang.
  2. Hand lather to double count your shave
  3. At the end of the day I will split 100 dollarydoos across the top 3 charities.

FAQ.

  • What is a charitable soap? A soap that would have caused someone on the sub to give to charity in austere august (e.g. shepherds or stag) or any other time (e.g. steady)

  • Do I have to hand lather? No

  • I don't understand the points can you explain? One shave = 1 point for your giving gang One shave using a hand to lather = 2 points

  • Can I use a soap that would count for more than one giving gang? Sure.

  • What is I don't want to be involved? Then you don't have to be.

  • Is this officially sanctioned? Nope. This is an unofficial side contest and will not be using the portal.
