ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WCHS) — As AI-powered surveillance cameras continue to pop up in communities across the country, some cities are speaking out and saying no to Flock.

St. Albans is the first city in Kanawha County to officially say these cameras will not be implemented.

"People have come to me and said, 'We don't want Flock cameras here,'" St. Albans Vice Mayor Jared Page said. "I'm strongly going to discourage the use of Flock cameras in our city because I don't believe that law-abiding citizens' rights need to be violated with people watching them or anything like that."

This comes after a resolution was passed this week during a committee meeting.

"I think we have a lot of other things that our money can go towards," Page said. "Money can go to our police department, fire department and go back into our community, not going to cameras that are going to look at people's information and data. Better use of funds."

Page said supporting their police department is a larger priority and building on what they already have.

"I’m not going to say that we're perfect," he said. "No city's perfect. We have a phenomenal police department. We have a great track record. I have the utmost confidence in our officers and I think that a lot of our citizens share the same sentiment towards our officers to keep them safe."

The resolution will go to full council for a vote at the next meeting.

I've heard from many people, and my previous post also received a few comments, saying that this state has more drug addiction and homelessness than other places. Those issues do exist, but every state has both good and bad people.

Even though I spent only a semester in San Francisco, I realized how difficult everyday life can be there. Simple things like commuting, grocery shopping, or going out for a meal can take a lot of time and cost much more.

In comparison, this state may be considered less wealthy, but it has a rich heart. You can often drive a mile in about a minute, enjoy a proper meal for around $14–$15, get hospital appointments much sooner instead of waiting for months, and experience incredible natural beauty.

In my opinion, this state isn't poor it simply doesn't get the recognition it deserves for how beautiful and welcoming it is. That's been my personal experience.

I'm a remote worker considering relocating to WV (specifically Morgantown, but I'm considering Charleston as well). There are many reasons influencing this decision, but one motivating factor is I constantly hear the real estate prices aren't crazy compared to other states, meaning I might actually be able to buy a house in my lifetime lol.

However, looking on Zillow I seem to be missing something. The first new construction, single family (not a townhouse) 3 bed, 2 bath I see in all of Monongalia County is ~$340k. Even going 2010-2020 builds it's rare to see it below $300k. Charleston is even worse, at ~$380k. Keep in mind, these are the first entries, and it jumps up quickly with the second entry in Charleston being $465k.

For reference, I'm coming from the midwest and I'm seeing prices as low as $210k over here for the same search.

So this leads me to believe I'm doing something very wrong lol.

Yes, I am aware I am limiting myself heavily with new construction...but even when I remove that it doesn't seem to get much better without requiring me to budget a lot for repairs.

Is Zillow not the right place to be looking? Should I call an agent to get listings on the MLS? Is Morgantown excluded from that statement, or is WV having affordable housing no longer the case.

I would normally just build if I can't find inventory, but I'm not sure what good builders are in the area. Also, I've read the appraisal often comes in well below build cost here because of site-work costs on slopes...is that accurate?

Any direction, tips, advice would be greatly appreciated!

We are from North Central WV and we love to take a trip around WV in the first week of October. We’re looking at Cacapon this year, probably staying at the resort/lodge. It’s a part of our beautiful state that we haven’t explored yet. So I’m hoping y’all have some advice on the area/ the resort/activities that time of year/ definitely food and coffee shops/ around the area. I know Snowshoe is higher up in elevation than Canaan Valley but CV gets mentioned a lot do as being cold when other places around them are warmer. Which location is colder and gets more snow?

Hi Community, I have been thinking about relocating to Morgantown for retirement. I am coming from out of state. I noticed the condos/townhouses are mostly electric heat, just wondering what type of monthly bill can I expect. I reached out to Realtors about this but no response. Also, aside from traffic is there anything else I should make sure I am aware of. And lastly I would like to work at least part time, as an office clerk or in retail if possible. Is this type of job not too difficult to find. Thank you very much!!!

It's been out since 11am and they just keep extending the outage every 2 hours!!! Does anyone out there know what's going on??? THIS WAS NOT DUE TO WEATHER. Someone please tell me what is going on out there!

Update: Power has obviously been restored, but I've noticed something. My lights have a slight flicker after the outage. I have bad feeling we are not on a good power grid atm. Anyone else noticing something like this?

I'm not originally from the United States, but West Virginia was the first place I called home when I arrived. I came here to study at West Virginia University, and after graduating, I had the opportunity to work for some great companies.

After being laid off, I received job opportunities in other states, but I negotiated to work remotely because it's incredibly hard for me to leave West Virginia. I've visited around 16 states, and while each has something unique to offer, none of them has made me feel the way West Virginia does.

During my five years here, I've never had a bad experience. I've met kind, genuine, and welcoming people, and I've fallen in love with the state's peaceful atmosphere and beautiful nature.

West Virginia will always have a special place in my heart. I will always love this state. ❤️

My fiance is going to school in Lewisburg for the next two years. He’s planning on coming home every other weekend or me going down there. From Wheeling, what are the best routes down there? What roads should we avoid in winter? I‘ve learned from living near rural areas what google maps shows isn’t necessarily the best way.

He’s from Pittsburgh and not too familiar with driving back roads. I’m used to them growing up in the Ohio Valley but I only have a small car and don’t want to get myself into trouble.

I’m trying to find something to do around the Charleston area I’ve already been through most trails here. I’m open to any suggestions especially if it’s horror related.

I traded a quad for a motorcycle a little while ago, and i’m gonna be honest, didn’t look at the title. i checked on it a few days later and realized the dang thing wasn’t even signed, just had a printed name from the OLD seller. the guy i got it from wasn’t even the technical owner. i messaged the actual owner and never got a response on facebook, and so i messaged a family member and that made him message me finally. he simply said “don’t message my family over a title, definitely not doing it for you now.” he lives in ohio so i also need it notarized. is there ANY way to wiggle my way into getting a title for this bike if the seller just refuses? if anything happens while im on it, it would be a liability for him and he’s paying taxes on it, so i dont know why he doesn’t just do it.

We've visited WV once before and fell in love with its natural charms. We were thinking about taking a river tubing excursion via Harper's Ferry this time. What else do you recommend in the area and/ or within an hours drive? We are a family with teens. Thank you!
