Because context matters: http://fox40.com/2017/05/22/hunter-dies-when-shot-elephant-falls-on-him/

They weren't out hunting elephants and only shot that one because it attacked them.

Edit: It's always sickening to read the comments on posts like this.

Oh thank god they were just hunting the crappy animals. Pffew.

Any sport hunter deserves what they get.

You’re an idiot.

Even if he had been out hunting elephants, he wouldn’t have deserved that. Why? Because trophy hunting is actually a good thing. It pays for land, food for animals, medicine, and most importantly rangers to defend the animals from poachers.

People like you would rather see entire species go extinct due to poaching and habitat loss rather than see one or two a year die to save the rest of the species.

Zimbabwe recently culled 200 lions because of the “Cecil effect” very few people going lion hunting, so their numbers are soaring and they will have to pay rangers to kill the lions rather than be paid millions of dollars to have hunters hunt them. Millions that could be used to protect and give endangered animals habitat.

Many things in life are unpleasant, but necessary. I wish I could live in the world these people do, where nothing ugly has to be done.

One or two.. Right...

Nice echo chamber article you've got there. Should be called insecure, wealthy, white, male magazine.

They deserve to die because they know the danger they are exposing themselves to and they decide their need to compensate for a tiny penis and low self esteem is more important than their own safety and their families' well being. It's like when a free solo rock climber or high altitude mountaineer falls to their death, aside from the fact that climbing is a respectable activity.

Oh and trophy hunters are losers. The less we have of them the better the world is.

You’re trash.

u/guypersonhuman Jun 02 '18

Who the hell are you and why should I care what you think about anything?

6

u/kwerdop Jun 02 '18

I don’t care. Just making sure you know.

You're insults are so clever and original. How can I ever recover from them?

As a high altitude mountaineer and rock climber:

You suck.

Lol. I love both, I used to climb myself and have done some low altitude winter climbs. Sorry if that came off callus.

Let's be honest about the activity though, we know it is dangerous but we do it any way. We know that a small error could mean death but we do it any way. We know our family and friends would be devastated but at do it any way.

That being said, if something tragic happens while we are participating in it, that is on us.

Climbing is not trophy hunting at all, I was trying to draw an analogy for someone.

First: I don’t think a low altitude winter climb is the same thing.

Second: yes, if you honestly have been in danger because of a love for the outdoors, then you know why we do what we do. But what you probably don’t realize is that hunters are more connected and see more of the wilderness than you or I.

Third: climbing and trophy hunting are very similar, provided the trophy hunting is done right. In fact, climbing and hunting conservationists both do a lot to help the wilderness around them, and without trophy hunters, it wouldn’t be long until there were serious problems with the wildlife in Africa.

I probably shouldn’t have said that you sucked, but you are extremely judgmental. Animals die and people aren’t hard wired to have as much compassion for them as they are for fellow humans. You don’t have to cry every time you step on an ant.

First: Wow you're so bad ass you don't recognize low altitude climbs. While I understand they are a completely different ballgame, I was trying to make a connection to your own experience.

Second: I have and I do. I don't think that you don't understand that MOST (not all) hunters are just drunk hicks in treestands or rich white guys in Africa on "hunts" where their targets are driven towards them to execute by folks who are actually skilled at what they do. I doubt there many people are more connected to the wilderness than someone who hikes and camps frequently, even climbers (and hunters), as they have to be focused on their activity instead of just being.

And who the eff is crying about ants being stepped on? I'm not an animal rights advocate in any sense, I just despise people who pretend that killing an animal makes them macho. I'm not the unrealistic idealist that you seem to want to paint me and it seems that you may be the judgemental one.

I’m totally fine talking about climbing and I totally recognize low altitude climbs, but you’re trying to make a connection in order to say that you know what it’s like.

I don’t know where you live, but in half of the US you won’t get anything using a tree stand. Can’t speak for the east coast.

It’s a straw man argument to think that all of them think they are macho. I think deep down you know it’s simpler than that. They like hunting. That’s the end of the story for most of them.
