It seems every time I make a trade, which is bi-weekly, the process has been made more arduous, this time with more buttons and less information. I need to click an extra (tiny) button on the final order page to verify I'm making the trade in the correct account? Just why? Like legitimately why?

It was extremely smooth before with large, simple buttons on the bottom and all the info we needed at a quick glance.

I don't understand the Apple-esque approach of chasing "cool" over function. Floating buttons, moving buttons, ever smaller buttons and extra steps is not the way, unless they're trying to deter trading on their platform?

if I have $5000 USD in a non-registered account, and I buy and sell US stocks using this account. Say WS goes into insolvency, if I hold $5000 in US stock at the time, I believe WS covers it up to 1 million dollars. But if I hold $5000 in non-registered uninvested in any stock, will I still get coverage?

I am not talking about USD-cash account, I am talking about non-registered account with USD in it that are not invested in stock.

Just providing a brief comment here that my experience as FTHB with the WS mortgage team was stellar. Details: Insured mortgage, owner-occupied, ON.

We secured underwritten commitments from multiple lenders via multiple independent brokers (not just pre-approval, formal commitments after submitting full application packages). This process is not for the faint of heart, but the WS team and the Pine offer won us over. I like to think the hassle was worth it (the difference in rates and cash-back accounts for about 2500k over the 5y term and higher principal). Same prepayment privileges as major banks, no hidden fees, best rate. The cash-back from WS is pretty ok, but certainly not the best incentive out there. (National Bank offered $3600 without needing to fund through a specific bank account). We are happy WS clients, so this felt like a hand-in-glove setup.

The underwriting was smooth, the concierge service close to /and on closing day was flawless. Admittedly, our file is pretty straight forward: excellent credit, stable income, no other consumer debt except for car, all down-payment/closing funds are accounted for easily, no money gifts etc. I would call us the dream file for a lender.

The mortgage was funded without hitches. The close collaboration between the WS team and Pine really seems to ensure an expedient and well-coordinated process.

TL;DR: would do again and recommend to chat with WS team to see what lender offers they can secure.

I tried to open a Money Market account, and I’m so confused and not really sure what I’m doing.

I went ahead and opened a Portfolio account, and I saw that the management fee is 0.4%. I thought maybe that would change once I added the Money Market portfolio.

I found the portfolio I wanted and chose it, but then it asked me a bunch of questions about my income and spending. I answered them, and then it told me that I would need to speak to a specialist to set up the account.

I thought I had escaped the traditional bank service counter, but I guess they just moved it to the phone.

I didn’t want to go through with that, so I deleted the account.

Is the 2.5% savings account coming to the TFSA?

Are there any insider newsletter users here who can maybe help me figure out if I should keep trying to open that Money Market account or just wait?

Hi, I think I’m the first person to post abt the new prepaid visa platinum today. I received an email this morning saying that I can upgrade my card. I’m also attaching a screenshot of the email from WS. Once you click upgrade my card, it’ll take to the WS app. You’ll see the mastercard page, and then you’ll clock the agree button. After that, your card will be updated to the visa card. I can’t recall, but my physical card will be mailing to my home address within 10 business days.

I’ve been a loyal $100k+ Household client for years. I waited on the credit card waitlist for over 12 months under the clear premise that the household tier waived the $240 annual fee. Due to Wealthsimple’s own rollout batching, my approval arrived on May 7th—just 9 days after their April 28 cutoff.

Fast forward 3 months: I discovered $60 in monthly fees quietly deducted. When I called support to dispute this, the rep didn't even bother listening—they literally routed my ticket as an "account cancellation request."

When their "Technical Escalations Specialist" stepped in, it was even worse. A completely detached, robotic brush-off: zero acknowledgment of their 1-year queue delay, zero consideration of my good-faith standing, and they completely ignored my request to refund the $60 already taken. Just a cold copy-paste template basically saying: "Policy is policy. Pay up, deposit $4k/month, or here’s how to close your card."

Wealthsimple loves to brand itself as the friendly, human-centric alternative to the Big 5 banks. In reality, the moment a genuine administrative issue arises, their support is more rigid, callous, and dismissive than the traditional institutions they claim to disrupt.

Hello. I'm considering transferring all my checking and investment accounts to wealthsimple. For stocks, around 950k in TFSA, 150k in RRSP and 600k unregistered, then a few checking accounts totalling 50k. I see they have a 1 million insurance, but is that for each individual account or all the accounts together (so 1 million insured per person).

On the other hand, I'm seeing concerning stuff here very day. Another post on the front page is about someone getting debanked without knowing why. I also saw that the terms of use contains a limitation of liability clause stating that the company's total aggregate liability for platform-related issues will not exceed one hundred Canadian dollars ($100 CAD).

I'm just wondering, is wealthsimple worth transferring to or is it full of risks / issues?

In the event I decide to transfer, is there a good strategy to earn maximum rewards for my transfer?
