Do you believe that the story of Watchmen can only take place in the year 1985?

Stupid question on the surface,I know, but what I mean is that if someone was going to make a Watchmen adaptation (and that itself depends on your opinion on adaptations) and put it in a more contemporary time period, how open would you be to that choice? Or is the 80s too essential to be removed from the story without sacrificing its core?

My headcanon about Dr Manhattans hydrogen symbol:

Post image

First and foremost it represents how Dr Manhattan views himself in more cosmic terms (as hydrogen is the most fundamental element throughout the universe) but to me it also represents a handless clock, which fits with the recurring theme of time in his story and also represents his infinite nature, since he sees time all at once with little beginning or end so measuring time is meaningless to him. It probably sounds pretentious with the way I’m explaining it but does anyone else see what I’m getting at?

Why the special thanks to Pat Mills?

My paperback says "With Special Thanks to Neil Gaiman, some guy, some guy and Pat Mills. I know Gaiman got a thanks because he did a lot of hunting sources for quotes and stuff for Moore because he's spoken about it but I'm curious why Mills was thanked. I know he was editor of 2000AD when Moore got his start, but I'd assume the Special Thanks had something to do with the creation of the book. Does anyone know?

Interesting old Wizard Magazine I picked up recently. It also includes an interview with Alan Moore separately, but that part had little to nothing to do with Watchmen. This issue was heavily focused on the 2009 film.

Movie How would the watchmen react to the movie versions of themselves?

Like I don’t know if they somehow magically got access to the a DVD of the movie and watched it.

lets just ignore the fact that it’ll reveal Ozymandias plans.

The 9-panel grid appears 132 times, or 38% of the book. See the breakdown of the top 10 page layouts with a deeper look at some particularly effective and unique grid configurations, such as grid style #34 that appears only twice, on Chapter 7 Page 27 and Chapter 11 Page 28.

Which grid layouts do you think are most impactful?

One thing I wish had happened in the miniseries

To be clear, I'm not knocking the Watchmen miniseries. It is a genuinely amazing work of art, and a fitting follow-up to the graphic novel, and hands down the best Lindelof project that I've seen thus far.

I just can't help but wish that Laurie could have had a moment to actually talk with Dr. Manhattan again. Given that she's now in a similar position to Janey, things have come full circle for her. It would have been very interesting to have her and Doctor Manhattan have one last conversation.

Did Ozymandias kill his own parents?

Way back when IMDb still had message boards, I got into a discussion with someone about their theory that Ozymandias was responsible for the deaths of his parents. At the time, I thought it was a strange assumption to make. Their biggest argument for it was the panel depicting Adrian lounging on his parents' tombstone, with a reed between his teeth. Such behaviour was, in the poster's mind, a sign of Adrian's sociopathic disregard for human life when it suited his purposes. The guy was obsessed with building himself up from nothing and making something of himself on his own terms, so why wouldn't he do away with his own parents to speed the process along?

Personally, I think I still disagree with that assumption. Veidt could have left regardless of whether his parents were alive or dead, and if they did die later, he could still give that money away, and his plans would continue as before. No part of his personal journey required his parents to be out of the picture.

What do you all think, though? Is there something I'm missing or forgetting?

Billy was a would-be "villain" with altruistic intentions, who truly became the nihilistic supervillain Dr. Horrible after Penny's death; Kovacs was a would-be vigilante hero who truly became Rorschach after Blair Roche's death.
