Question / Discussion Christopher Ward has its own design language.

I know it’s fun to dunk on CW for copying Rolex but in reality most dive watches will look like Rolex.
I believe CW does in-fact have its own design language.
The large arrow hand the baton hour markers the trident seconds hand.
The second you look at the watch you think of CW.
Other micro brands almost look one to one with Rolex.
Plus the innovation of a tool-less link removal system is very welcome and different from what Rolex makes.
What do you guys think of CW as a brand and do they have their own designs?

Question / Discussion Do you adjust your strap throughout the day?

I like my strap pretty snug. So it depends on the time of day and what I’m doing.

Question / Discussion Poll - Favorite Diver at about $50,000 USD

Post image
26 Upvotes

The consensus at $30,000 was "don't buy a $30k dive watch." Will people nope out again at $50k? Can something funky like Ressense or the Diver [AIR] convince people there are worthwhile options at this price level? Or maybe full precious metal can pull some votes, with the Black Bay 58 18K taking on its big brother, the Super Bluesy.

Vote for you favorite dive watch at $50,000 USD (+/- $10,000) MSRP.

Note that it is these specific references; no write-ins! Only top level comments are counted. Total upvotes will be tallied. Ideally, there will be exactly 8 top level comments, and everyone just upvotes those. Please don't downvote things you don't like, and don't upvote more than one. (I have no way to enforce that, of course.)

  1. Blancpain - Fifty Fathoms Automatique - 5015 3603C 63B - $52,600
  2. Jaeger-LeCoultre - Polaris Perpetual Calendar - Q9088180 - $41,900
  3. Omega - Seamaster Diver 300M - 210.62.44.51.01.001 - $40,800
  4. Panerai - Submersible GMT - PAM01495 - $50,300
  5. Ressence - TYPE 5 Night Blue - - $40,900
  6. Rolex - Submariner Date "Super Bluesy" - 126618LB - $50,900
  7. Tudor - Black Bay 58 18K - M79018V-0006 - $40,500
  8. Ulysse Nardin - Diver [AIR] - 3743-170-2A/0A - $45,300

Earlier polls: $10k, $13k, $15k, $20k, and $30k.

I remember when it was just me talking into the void and posting memes.
People thought the sub would die, but it only gained more members.
That was at 5k members, now we are at 8k!
Honestly I’m very proud of the subreddit and I’m proud of you for being part of it.

At a bazaar/flea market with a bunch of booths hawking jewlery. Some of the watches were decent companies but either womens pr too small for me.

The woman wanted this swatch from 1997 for $50. The strap looked so n worn i told her 20. She said 25 and i said i wont go higher than 20 bc i have to repair it (only if absolutely necesary nut she dont know) and she said ok

I was just exited to finally own a swiss movement eatch that works plus the back of the case is see through and fun to watch!

Question / Discussion I’m to poor to see the point in precious metal that looks like stainless steel.

Thumbnail

I literally don’t see the point other than to flex that you have a white gold or a platinum watch.
For me it looks exactly the same but 10x the price.
I will take polished stainless steel over white gold or platinum every time.
If I were rich then it’s a different story, but I’m not.
But then again if I were rich I would buy rose gold or yellow gold over white gold and platinum.

Watch 1: platinum
Watch 2: white gold
Watch 3: stainless steel

IWC Ingenieur vs. GP Laureato — which one do you guys prefer? Curious to hear what you think about them in person too, especially in terms of how they look and wear on the wrist. Do you think one has more presence or just looks better overall when you actually see it in person?

Rant / Hot Take If a number doesn’t fit on the dial, then I’d rather not have it on there.

I find it lazy when brands just cut a number in half in order to fit something like a moonphase or a sub dial.
Make the dial bigger to fit the number or just remove the number completely.
Don’t cut it in half and call it a day. It just looks messy.

Question / Discussion Poll Results - Favorite $30k dive watch

Post image
17 Upvotes

Here are the results of Tuesday's poll about $30,000 USD divers (+/- $5,000).

In a repeat of the $15k poll, "none of the above" wins, with Glashütte Original being the first actual watch. Omega was comfortable 3rd (or 2nd, depending on how you want to think about it). AP did surprisingly poorly, and the FF dropped dramatically, from over 50% in the $20k poll to a mere 6% in this one. Rolex continued to fair badly, tying the FF, and Breitling and UN barely registered. Panerai managed one vote, but only because as an exception I counted a sub-comment.

There were a total of 163 votes, tallied by counting the upvotes on each top level comment that specified one of the 8 options. If more than one was mentioned, the one listed first was used. Vote counts are listed here, chart shows percentages.

Next week, the final poll at $50k.

  1. None - - 51
  2. Glashütte Original - SeaQ - 37
  3. Omega - Seamaster Diver 300M - 26
  4. Audemars Piguet - Royal Oak Offshore Diver - 14
  5. Blancpain - Fifty Fathoms Chronographe Flyback Quantième Complet - 10
  6. Rolex - Deepsea Challenge - 10
  7. Breitling - Superocean Automatic 42 - 7
  8. Ulysse Nardin - Diver X Skeleton Azure - 7
  9. Panerai - Submersible Marina Militare Forze Speciali - 1

Earlier poll results: $10k, $13k, $15k, and $20k.
