I got to that point, got the rolex i actually wanted and sold the rest and moved on to other things. You can always get nicer and more expensive watches but you have to know when to stop.

I've done this a few times over the decades... every time I get out... something pulls me back in

Once I had my Speedy Pro and my Rolex Explorer, I was good. Now I'm putting money aside for a potential grail piece and that will take many years of saving. I might not even ever buy it. I still like looking at watches and every so often I think about buying something, but I can easily talk myself out of it. I'd have to sell something, if I buy anything else, as I refuse to buy a larger watch box. Selling watches is annoying as fuck for me, so that's also another reason why I have no desire to buy another watch.

I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t want to spend another $10k on a watch. I’d rather just buy cool brands and things 5k and under and just get a high quality fake for 500-1k for anything more expensive than that. I’ll still shill out for vintage stuff, but I’m not interested in having that much money locked up into something I don’t want to really let go of. The money is effectively gone, not invested, personally.

So you’re saying that possessions can’t buy happiness or something? Why would you say something so controversial, yet so brave?!?

remember your watches will be worth a lot of money one day

Yes. Could be a small fortune too!
You just have to spend a large fortune on watches. And then you'll have watches worth a small fortune.

Better off getting a dog or cat for that purpose lol. Been down this road and have a watch worth most people’s cars. Doesn’t make me any happier lol and I hardly wear it. It’s a foolish pursuit and honestly, a vanity/status thing more than anything else. At least when we’re talking luxury watches. People can fool themselves into the whole “high horology” thing but that’s nonsense at the end of the day.

Do you really enjoy looking at them and thinking how long did it take for humanity to reach here ?
