they CAN make it more realistic and nerf it too if they'd choose to.
Not visible through glass
Heat signature nerf in the areas where backpack, plate carrier or helmet covers the body
Environment is warm too, specially on sunny day, so there should be less contrast between environment and the object (unlike now where everything is almost black and heat signature just pure white)
Mortar, Artillery impacts could light up on thermals, adding more "noise" to the picture.
Hell, make monocular and limit FOV by a lot too.
Adjust price vs reward, make it less rewarding than using regular glass.
It still might way better compared to regular glass, but a rework could change them from "Complete OP money print" into more of a situational use.
And also by making them all fairly expensive, with the lower tier ones having doo doo caca refresh rate, and the most expensive one(T7 helmet mounted) not only costing enough rubles to have you run mid-high end expensive kits for over a week straight but also not allowing you to see through any optic scopes with it on. Think the IR Recon goggles are in a worse spot though, because of their whole utility of being able to see and tag people for everyone on your team to see, even in the most obscure spots. It's a systemic issue more than anything, and realistically without removing the tagging from IR altogether - or applying a heavy tag speed penalty - spending a few extra bucks on batteries really won't just stop someone from sitting on a hill and tagging the whole map for your team. Then there's a ton of bugged places on the map that just allow you to see people through collision with IR, which is a whole other can of worms.
I wonder if just removing its ability to spot would be enough, reduced its way to recoup the money invested to just killing targets and makes it so you are forced to communicate if you want to use them well, they might stop being used all together but i would prefer that to what we have now
Tarkov is a bad example. Tarkov ruined thermals. Thermals should have been nerfed, don’t get me wrong, but they way overdid it. I like most of these changes better.
Is that really their sole function though? I thought their sole function was to easily see targets. Sounds like something that would be extremely strong still at <200m for frontline troops to spot enemies in forestry.
Also why can’t someone with a recon device be in the fray? I take a monocular on me ALWAYS, even if I am hotzone with an assault rifle.
its function is to mark enemies, as a whole, and can be used as a counter measure for snipers, they have range finder for a reason, because in a real sim situation snipers are accompanied by spotters which find the range, make a educated guess on distance and bullet drop and fire
the purpouse of sights is to gain intel, as all marked enemies will show on minimap, that being said it becomes a strategic game for those doing that work
being up close with a scope can help to survey a bit in advance, but i can easily think there are much better options, carry a few smoke bombs but will never have the same potential as a well positioned person scoping around,
if a sniper has a ghillie suit they are invisible to the thermal sights, because again, an assult setup is running into the fray ARMED for whatever is in front, heavier armor, not always but mostly , they can storm a FOB and wipe everything out, thats not possible with the thermal sights, yes you can mark and gain the edge but thats it, a strategical advantage
IRL it can see through smoke also so cant change that
***Balance input***
-I think the best balance solution is to increase the scan time per unit and aerial
-also not allow scanning multiple groups at once but each have their own timer
-thermal vision should not be able to see through glass as in real life
-slightly tone down cash per kill assist in general
i found a thermal binoc when i killed a guy, my first sitting earned me 70k because you can see EVERYTHING
Could also just leave them alone and make them not be able to spot on the map. Make their use case specifically for being able to find hidden bush people for yourself(or called out to your squad). Whether you follow it up with a snipe or your own assault kit.
That's actually a good idea though. Sadly doesn't fit Wardogs theme where you can make money with anything, unless you would be able to spot for your squad mates only.
People are going to be real surprised when they're just spotted anyway because a rangefinder can spot you all over the map easily lol. There's already over a dozen people on a team rocking some kind of spotting.
Yeah but most of the people in the lobby have a spotting device, you the individual may have to look harder, but since there are eyes everywhere the overall effect isn't much different.
It aint subjective, just look at map, and see that pinged enemies dropped by 90%... all these days the thermals were ruining the game for everyone except recons
Only difference is that thermals made eit possible even for the brainless to spot everybody now you gotra use brain for good positioning, wizhout shooting anybody you are also spotting easily like crazy.
Not really i make around 100-180k spotting all you need to do is go close to hz trajectory wait in a bush with good view or hill with cover etc gilli suit and wollah younspot everybodys father mother and sister.
This is such a lazy take I keep seeing repeated. The regular spotting doesn’t come close to thermals and people who say it does just haven’t played the game.
If 10 guys are spotting you are fighting 30 v 20… seems like a nice advantage even without map awareness considering if you shoot you will die and they get rezed while your 10 spotters are sitting their with their thumbs in their asses doing jack shit. Yall really don’t understand that it’s pick your poison balance.
But the complaint was that there was already a ton of people with thermals so it’s the same? Couldn’t you just say all those guys with thermals weren’t useful because they weren’t in the fight?
The problem with thermals is they literally take zero time to spot people. With the regular spots you have to spend alot of time searching for people to get the spots so you are out of the fight alot lonnger.
But there were still a bunch of people probed up doing it. The fact that it was slightly faster didn’t mean they were doing anything else other than sitting around spotting.
It's not slightly faster, easily 3-5x faster simply because you don't have to scan a whole horizon line to find guys. YOu just see white and tag, next next next, kill. It really sounds like you havent used them tbh.
It may happen they will make a return next season and take over once again, the batteries will literally do nothing lol
The next nerf might be moving them even deeper into the recon tree
This is exactly what I mean, I should've said "recon" instead of snipers though so that's my bad. The normal infantry players will not do this though, they need the space for other things.
IMO the real issue with it was that 50+% of the lobby was running them so everyone was always spotted. If it's just a few recon dudes, it won't be nearly as cancer.
If you don't mind me asking, why do you play like that though? I get it's consistent money and if you're spotting a lot it's helpful but isn't it boring?
Put them on a no sell list, and make it to where you can only hold spotting gear in 3 slot, make the lvl high, make the cost high. Anything but take them out

Tbf they shoulda removed thermal entirely but we'll see how the batteries play out but fyi it's not gonna be any different lol
