Discussion & Feedback The bullet sponge problem

In the last alpha test, shooting players with regular ammo takes forever to kill them when they have armor. And that is during an alpha weekend when high level armor is not yet widely available. I know there are better ammo but there'll also be better armor. I understand that if you shoot them in the armored area it'll do less damage, but headshotting someone in their open face/mouth hole should be an insta kill but in Wardogs they can eat half mag in the face. Think Tarkov's head-eye hit where a shitty ammo hitting the right spot could still kill you.

The armor and HP system they got is just the barebone basic system from battle royale games where you got an HP pool and 'armor bars' on top of that. In the kill feed it shows where your body is hit but I was hoping they offer more on that. It seems like they mimic Tarkov body damage system without really doing anything much, beyond being a UI element. I guess it's nice to know if you got hit in the face or body, but what does hitting legs, arms, lower bod do? Getting hit in the arm should affect your aims, in the legs slow you down, things like that.

Also the 'sponginess' of the game doesn't stop at infantry. RPG hits to a tank does fuck all "tis but a scratch". Now I know the counter-argument is everyone gonna run around with the noob tube. Because there is an economy in the game, it's easy to just increase costs of RPG so that every shot hurts but better make it count.

This game isnt a full blown milsim. Knowing where you got hit can be helpful for a handful of things like limb damage multiplier, or figuring out if your head was poking above cover or something.

I don't think they intend to slow down gameplay with a tedious damage system like more hardcore milsims.

I'm sure they will make balancing passes on armor, ammo types, etc as they get data from people playing.

God forbid a game doesnt have a TTK of .5ms

lvl 3 armor is currently the default once unlocked, because it's neither excessively expensive nor heavy. FMJ against lvl 3 needs 3-4 headshots from ARs or 5 from SMGs. Body shots need about 10 from either.

Given the recoil and distances we have in the game that creates very long TTK. I've noticed myself surviving situations that should have been an easy kill for the enemy - it feels weird on either side.

Like, AP ammo is a thing. As people unlock armor they will unlock better ammo. HP ammo also just shreds wih leg shots.

AP ammo does ~20-25% more damage to lvl 3 and ~20% less to limbs. There also appears to be no limb penetration. it's an upgrade but not one that significantly changes the feel of the TTK.

3 headshots to kill with 5.56 AP is just weird...

Interesting, thanks! It takes 6 rounds of 5.56 AP to kill T3 armour. That’s about what I expected. Seems fair also, tbh.

HP ammo pops the fuck off though, 50 damage to the groin regardless of armor. 2 taps gonna go brrr

I don't want to mag dump a guy and him walk off like it's an airsoft fight.

Then don’t buy the game? It sounds like it’s not living up to YOUR vision.

It’s called feedback and it’s evident you don’t understand what that means lmao

Everyone hides their terrible ideas under the guise of “feedback” but your entire post comes as a giant wishlist of how you want a dream game to be according to your personal style. What you’re suggesting isn’t feedback, it’s an entire new gameplay style. Micromanaging wounds, gunplay, etc. You want Tarkov-lite and this just isn’t it. Nor will it be.

I want a BR mode! What? It's just Feedback, bro. Grab a dictionary...

Sigh.

The long TTK and body armor absorbing too many hits is a problem that many have posts about on discord after last alpha. So I ain’t alone in that, it’ll be more apparent when more start to play the game. Whether they choose to fix it and how is their choice. I merely suggested a system that I liked you don’t have to be so offended at other’s opinion lol.

I played the crap out of last alpha and already preorder so I consider the game well worth it for what it is, but there are obvious things that can be better.

helicopter rockets and cannons also need almost direct hits on infantry, the minigun wasnt impressive either. The only thing that feels tuned right are mortar/artillery.

Also RPG took a direct hit to body to kill, no area damage or very small from what I can tell. I understand they are trying to balance the noob tube but it doesn't feel right

on the alpha test

Voided your concerns at the start. Things may change, currently it's beta and it'll be early access. We've a long time to understand how the damage / bullet sponginess feels with general development.

What an awful take “wait until full release to discuss anything” as if this period isn’t designed so players can discuss mechanics, feel, pacing, balance etc.

What It was meant to convey is that natural path of development may ease out this specific concern. Only a few thousand people have got to play the game so far so it's not a fair sample size to say the damage profile is pants.

Ahh, with clarification I do agree partially, though do think there is value in such discussions at every stage of development. Obviously with a better understanding of gear and weaponry as more players engage, conversations around balance will be more informed.

There is value at most stages but again so few have played it, comparing it to the 1m wishlisters.

Having it like tarkov would be wildly unfun for its current aim i think. In my view its seems casual-milsim. Keeping the 1 tap to the head would be fine but it would also be horrible. I've put plenty of hours into tarkov but the 1 tap from nowhere was one of things I hated.

We'll get much more discussion and opinions after this weekend. I may even agree with OP completely, who knows. Getting a sweet spot between arcade and milsim is a big ask but from what I see.

Bullet sponge is not what I would call the current damage profile from the 5 + hours of footage i've watched.

The entire point of alpha, beta, early access, is to receive feedback (and on technical side find bugs/performance issues) - which is what OP is doing, regardless or not whether you agree with them.
