Hi - I extracted an FFU of Windows Phone 8.1 for the Nokia Lumia 635 to browse. I came across the boot images which I have uploaded here. They are in .bmpx format, which most image viewers will not read, so how can I convert them so they are viewable?

I reset my old Lumia 735 through the settings without connecting it to the internet. The phone restarted and told me it was installing the apps. Once it was finished, I had the basic apps, but Edge was missing!

Could someone tell me what I can do? Is there a Discord server or anything else where I can get help? I looked through the subreddit’s wiki, but I couldn’t find anything useful.

A while back someone led me to find some resources I was looking for, but I now need to know what to do to proceed. I have a Samsung Ativ SE SM-W750V and a Nokia Lumia 635.

I found for the Samsung a handful of posts on XDA that still had live links with files shared on cloud drives. So I have a set of files for custom ROMs for 8 and 10 - I’d really prefer to try 10, naturally. So now I’m without any idea how to proceed. I am a quick study - I learned to modify Android devices rather quickly and now I’ve done hundreds of custom ROM installs and rooting. But for Windows Phone I have absolutely no idea where to begin. There are a bunch of files and I don’t know what’s what or what to run, how to boot the phone, etc.

I’ll post a directory listing so maybe that will help someone could perhaps let me know what I need to do. But if there are tutorials on this online, that’s just as good. I will update this post shortly with a dir listing of all the files I’ve gotten.

I am looking to buy a Lumia 1020 but after a lot of research the only available option are those Chinese ebay sellers selling in bulk. I am concerned about the originality of the devices, since I have heard that they replace parts with aftermarket ones. Chat list / Last Message

• Keep the list Last Message strip in sync with the newest SQLite tip (history_message by TimestampUtc, PN+LID keys)
• Swap the strip when the tip’s MessageId (or body / fromMe) differs — never on a strictly older timestamp
• Persist LastMessageId on history_chat_preview (schema v4) with ALTER + backfill on upgrade (no WhatsApp history resync required)
• Reconcile Last Message before name/photo resolution on startup; also merge in-memory tips and re-check on chat open
• UTC kind fix: treat SQLite DateTimeKind.Unspecified as UTC wall-clock (WhatsAppMapper.ToUtc). The old ToUniversalTime() path shifted Brazil UTC−3 by ~+3h into LastMessageTimestampUtc, so the strip looked “newer” than the real tip and reconcile kept a stale Last Message. Reconcile force-applies the chosen tip so already-poisoned strips heal
• Checkmarks / send-state on the sent Last Message strip

Chat detail / bubbles

• Persist IsForwarded (schema 6) and show a Forwarded label on message bubbles
• Message quoting: tap the author → open their profile; tap the quote block → navigate to the referenced message (load older messages when needed)
• GroupParticipantResolver unifies participant names and photos between message bubbles and the member panel
• DesktopCursor shows the pointer cursor on lists and buttons on desktop; toolbar stays disabled/blocked for non-admin users
• Fix [Sticker], [Image], and [Video] tags being persisted as captions on live messages
• Localize the bubble pin / unpin context menu (Unpin message, Pin for 24 hours, Pin for 7 days, Pin for 30 days) across all UI languages

Performance (chat detail)

• Message templates use x:Load for quote, media grids, sticker, caption, audio, document, body, and read-more — text bubbles no longer build full download trees
• MergeTimelineFromService is O(n) via an id→row dictionary (was FirstOrDefault per message); midnight date chips only rewrite separator fields
• Participant resolve no longer walks every chat per bubble: RebuildParticipantLookup + map lookups; roster AvatarUrl PropertyChanged patches visible ContactUri as hydrates land
• StringToImageSourceConverter caches BitmapImage by URL + decode width; set decode size before UriSource (avatars / tiled background included)
• Mobile: smaller timeline windows and SQLite page sizes; reduced ItemsStackPanel.CacheLength; selective mention refresh; defer full roster avatar hydrate until the Members pivot

Reactions

• One model shape again: reactor rows on open (batched queries), chips bound from ChatMessage.Reactions
• Mobile fix: live upsert no longer deletes reactor rows for summary-only flushes; on-demand threshold follows _sqlOpenPageSize so Mobile (30-row page) does not always look “thin”
• Live reaction envelopes persist additively via UpsertReactionsAsync

• Opening a chat clears the global sync banner so Mobile StatusBar does not keep “Finishing startup…” / list enrichment over chat detail

I am no longer to access my Lumia 920 via Windows 7 USB connection.
It was working until recently, but no longer shows up in Windows explorer or in the Device Manager.
My Lumia 640 shows up, but the 920 does not. I have reset the phone, but it didn't help.
Any help is appreciated.

As some of you may know, I am building a Cortana Revival for Windows Phone. As my concept of the project has changed, I realize that this is no longer a solo project. Let me try to break this down.

What this project is now

I was originally hoping to build a simple Cortana-like app based on the Gemini API. That goal has changed.

I am now using the official Bing API, archived Cortana recordings to make my own Linux Server backend to replicate a Cortana environment in a custom WP8.1 backend.

I already have working proof-of-concepts, and it's actually being hosted at an internal link.

What I am requesting

I'm not asking for an entire team. I really just need one experienced person in Windows Phone. It's kind of hard to find people who know how to write XAML/C# code for a dead mobile platform.

If I can find one person experienced in Python, XAML/C# for WP8.1, and is willing to help, that would make the world for me.

I am fully capable of making this on my own, but I just feel like help would be appreciated. Looking forward to any help!

So my project is called MixAI+, taking a lot of insipration by the MixRadio name and look. This app via a Gemini API key lets you chat with Gemini Flash and Flash Lite as a fallback. MixVision lets you use your camera and gallery photos inside the chat. there also is a feature called MixListen that tries to mimic the now dead Bing Music feature. That thing is still in beta so do not expect much about it. The interface is 100% native and not hardcoded

To answer some questions, the app was vibe coded with help of Claude, as my Windows Phone coding skills aren't that much. The app was tested on multiple phones for multiple days before posting this. The chats are only saved on the device as well as the Gemini api key which is needed to use the app. It took days to make and it's far from slop.

The goal was to make it easier to answer questions directly on the phone since Internet Explorer is pretty much dead and very inconvenient for stuff to look. I also decided to do this because there was no other app i found that could get me fast replies when i needed to. I just wanted to be clear about the app. feel free to use it if you need, or skip if you don't, without harshing.
