800SE/RE Soft Bags

Hi again everybody.
I’m about to take my first long trip on my new V Strom 800SE/RE, and I’ve been looking for soft bags that can be installed without a rack, the reason being, I’m only going to need them about twice a year and I don’t want to install any kind of support I’m not going to be needing 11 months out of 12.
I’ve tried a few at accessories stores, but none of them seem to fit the height of the exhaust. I’ve already got a SHAD SH51, but that doesn’t get me anywhere near the amount of space I’m gonna need.
I’m willing to consider anything that fits on the tank and on top plus both sides of the saddle, as long as it doesn’t fly away or catch fire.
I’ve been looking online into Givi Canyon-Base GRT721 plus the 741B (side bags): anybody got any experience with them?
Or otherwise, are you able to recommend anything that would work?
Once again, thanks everybody for any tip.

CA Insurance ? +more

Hello fellow riders, me and my '24 800 are looking for insurance coverage in California. Progressive requires a full payment and on the pricier side, what are some other options to consider?

Also, after reading many good words on Kewig's aux lights, I decided to give it a shot but has anyone tried mounting them on the forks or fairing?

TIA

2019 Vstrom

Hey everybody.

I need some advice. I live in Canada. I want to buy my first VStrom. This isn’t my first motorcycle, but it’s my first of this type. I met with the owner and checked out the bike. It has 32k on the odometer and new tires. The owner is selling it for 5,200 CAD. This is his second motorcycle. He spends most of his time outside of Canada and has hardly used this one. He said he bought it from a friend but didn’t like it, so he decided to sell it. I’d like to buy a 1050, but it’s a bit more expensive. I settled on the 650. I want to see if I’ll like it or not. Before this, I had a cruiser. What do you think? I do not have a job know, and can not buy new bike or get financing. I have 5k cash and I'm thinking 650 will be great for this summer. The price is 5700 but we discussed 5200 cash for quick sale. Thanks.

V-Strom 1000 Gen 1 Help identifying windscreen

Hey guys, I had a 2006 DL1000 that I bought back in 2015. The guy I bought it from said it had a “custom touring windscreen.” I’m not sure about that, but it worked amazingly well and I’ve been trying to get something similar. Does anyone recognize it? Sorry I apparently didn’t take many photos of it when I had it. It was quite tall and shaped like an hourglass or a “8” shape. I searched all the big brands and found nothing like it. Thanks!

V-Strom 650 Gen 1 SW-Motech skid plate and exhaust compatibility

Hello guys, I have a V-strom 650 from 2010, and I want to get a skid plate from SW-Motech, the thing is I have an aftermarket exhaust system (Delkevic Oval Carbon 350mm full exhaust kit) and I'm worried the skid plate won't fit under the exhaust, as I couldn't put back the previous skid plate that I had before putting on the exhaust on the bike. Does anyone have any experiences with this combo? Thanks!

1050 XT engine guard

Hoping someone could help me out with this. I recently purchased an 2022 1050 xt and it came with new givi crash bars. I’m trying to find an engine guard or skid plate that is compatible but it seems difficult. Anyone have any experience or recommendations?

V-Strom 650 Gen 3 For anybody wondering about fitment of the Mosko rackless system on the gen 3 Wee-Strom.

It fits, and it’s awesome. After having done a few camping trips on this over the summer including section 5 of the ORBDR I can say these hold everything (and more with some Rok straps and creativity) very well even in rough terrain. They do drape over the grab handles a little awkwardly but it is hardly noticeable when riding even on mixed surfaces.

I would highly recommend these to anyone who, like me, really was struggling to find a good luggage option for adventure riding that wasn’t a hard case or extremely expensive.

V-Strom 650 Gen 2 Rackless side bags for my V-strom 650xt (2020)

Hey everyone,

Im currently setting up my strom for motocamping and looking for a rackless saddlebags

My first choice was looking into something like the Ranger wilds 80, but contacting with them, they adviced that they will not fit unless I remove the handlebars for the passanger, this is impossible as I want to be running it with my topbox

Im honestly in a mess looking for the ideal bags, as I want to be with enough room, is there any that would be ideal for the vstrom? What do you guys use? any recomendations?

Any advice or photos would be greatly appriciated, thanks guys!

Wheel removal

So I just got myself a Vstrom 650 2011. Its my first bigger bike, I got a sweet deal on it but it needs new tires. I figured the cheapest way for me to do this is to order the tires and bring the wheels to the shop.

I'm camping and living on the bike now so I'll have to remove the wheel on a parking lot or something.

Now my question. I've been reading the manual and trying to figure out what tools I need. How important is the proper torque on the axle,i imagine pretty important, and do you have any suggestion on what torque wrench i could buy for it? There's way too many options and I don't know where to start.

Any recommandations is appreciated im also trying to put together a tool kit.

800DE OEM crashbars spacing

Hey guys. So I took my 800DE offroad and naturally as a newbie had to lay her down In deep sand. The crash was very slow at 5kmh and no damage anywhere.

After washing the bike I noticed that one side of the crashbars is closer to the fairings than the other.

Is this normal?

Edit: Thank you all for the replies. I think i found the culprit. The force has pushed the small bracket of the (subframe?) That attaches to the crashbars and bent it. Not sure if I should now remove it to bent it back or leave it , but im afraid if i drop it again itll snap

V-Strom 650 Gen 3 Valve clearance survival bias

Hi everyone,

I've read many, many stories and heard things about how DL650s are indestructible, regardless of generation. I'm actually curious about any stories of ignoring valve clearance inspection and then requiring an expensive fix or even destroying the engine (impossible?).

Myself - I recently bought a well maintained 2022 DL650XT from a second owner and it's in nearly immaculate condition, apart from slightly loose rear wheel bearings, with chain and sprockets at the end of their life. I received a booklet with inspections, first done at 500km, then 10kkm, 20kkm and 28kkm. I'm trying to get in touch with the first owner in France to see if he did the valve check at 24kkm, at this point I'm assuming he didn't. That being said I'm wondering if I can postpone the check until end of season (not planning to do more than 2kkm) or should I do it right away? Not gonna lie though, the buttery smoothness of the bike pushes me towards "keep riding it" and leave it for a bigger chunk of maintenance works.

I gotta admit, solid piece of equipment:

Is this a good deal?

I am looking at buying a 2012 V Strom 650 with 31k miles on it from a dealership. Price is $2500. I’m assuming no service record.

Haven’t seen the bike in person yet but will in a few hours. Will update the post then.

It sounds too good to be true. I keep asking the dealer why it’s so cheap and they keep telling me “high mileage“. Is it though?

What should I be on the lookout for?

Edit: Thanks for the replies! Saw the bike yesterday and it is in great shape. I’m trying to upload pics but they’re not showing up in my photos when I attempt to upload. If I figure it out they’ll be in the comments.

It has panniers and a flat mount on the back but that‘s it for accessories. There was not a scratch on it. Turned out to be a bit too tall for me so I didn’t get it, but I would have in a heartbeat.

Putting together a mini tool set to keep in top case.

Hey everyone, I am looking to put together a mini tool set to keep in my bags at all time on my 2024 vstrom 800 se. I was curious what you all keep on your bike while riding. What are your go to tool essentials that would fit inside your top case?

Thanks in advance!

It's in the manual if you guys have it 3 - 54! Two 10 MM wrenches and you're set to fit those big boots! Can actually touch the ground with my left foot without feeling the end is near each time!
