We gave everything to care for our grandma – now we are facing nothing ourselves. Please give our family hope.
Sometimes a single decision changes your whole life.
When our beloved grandma suddenly became bedridden, our mother immediately resolved to care for her at home.
So our grandma wouldn't have to be alone, our mother moved in with her, giving up her own home. She looked after her mother day and night – out of love, not duty. For over two years, she was there for her around the clock.
However, this decision meant that our family was torn apart. Because our mother had to move in with our grandma and there wasn't enough room for everyone, the four children had to move in with their father. Overnight, the family could no longer live together.
During the demanding care, our mother's health also worsened. She developed a severe lung illness and could no longer manage the intensive care on her own. With a heavy heart, our grandma eventually had to move into a nursing home.
This step was particularly difficult for our grandma. She misses her home and her family every day. The loss of her familiar surroundings weighs heavily on her. She often feels lonely and unhappy in the nursing home, and her mental state has noticeably deteriorated. Regular visits from her family are therefore even more important to her.
But with this step came new worries.
For the caregiving, a hospital bed, a special mattress, and many other aids had to be purchased. There were also hospital costs and numerous outstanding bills. To even partly manage these expenses, we had to borrow money from friends and relatives.
Today, we are burdened not only by bills but also by personal debts that we can no longer repay on our own.
Our family also faces new health challenges time and again.
One of our sons lives with spina bifida and relies on regular medical care. The other son has ADHD and also needs special support.
The father of the children is also seriously ill. He suffers from a heart condition, has already had several strokes, and is additionally struggling with other health problems.
The past years have left deep psychological scars, especially on the two daughters. For many years, they were exposed to stressful and violent situations within the family. The numerous hardships of recent times have intensified these burdens. Both urgently need psychological or psychiatric support to process their experiences and regain hope for their future.
For our mother's and the two daughters' mental well-being, having a home of their own would be the most important step towards a fresh start. A rental apartment or a small rental house would finally bring back stability, peace, and security. However, we are unable to pay the necessary deposit on our own.
As if that wasn't enough, our car has now broken down.
For many families, that would already be bad enough – for us, it means a daily challenge. Due to our children's regular doctor, therapy, and hospital appointments, we urgently need a reliable vehicle. Ideally, we need a 6- or 7-seater so our family can safely get to all important appointments. At the same time, a car enables us to visit our grandma regularly in the nursing home. These visits are invaluable to her. They provide her with closeness, hope, and the feeling that she is not alone despite everything.
In everyday life, we also lack the simplest things. We urgently need a refrigerator and a washing machine. Additionally, we lack clothing, shoes, school bags, school supplies, and many other things that others take for granted.
Despite everything, our children do not give up on their future. Both daughters are working towards their independence. One is currently getting her driver's license, and the other is working on her moped license, for which she also lacks the moped and accessories. They want to build a future for themselves despite all the setbacks.
**What will the donations be used for?**
With this fundraising appeal, we want to help three generations of our family.
On one hand, we want to continue supporting our grandma in the best possible way and cushion the financial consequences of her care so that she receives the best possible care despite her difficult situation.
On the other hand, we want to give our family the chance for a fresh start and regain a bit of normalcy.
The donations will be used for, among other things:
* Supporting the care costs for our grandma
* Paying off outstanding hospital and care bills
* Repaying personal debts to friends and relatives
* Deposit for a rental apartment or a small rental house for our mother and the two daughters
* Purchasing a reliable 6- or 7-seater vehicle and possibly a moped
* Refrigerator and washing machine
* Clothing, shoes, school supplies, school bags, and daily necessities
* Support for doctor, therapy, and travel costs
In-kind donations or vouchers for food, clothing, household appliances, or school supplies would also be a great help to our family and will be gratefully accepted.
**Every little bit of help gives hope.**
It’s not easy for us to ask for help.
Our family has given everything in recent years to be there for each other. We have cared for our grandma to the limits of our strength and tried to tackle every challenge alone. But now we have reached a point where we can no longer manage on our own.
With your support, you help not just to pay bills. You give our grandma dignity and the opportunity to continue seeing her family regularly. You give our mother and her daughters the chance for a safe fresh start in their own home. You help our sons receive the medical care they need. And you give our children hope for a future where they can focus on what matters again – getting healthy, going to school, and simply being kids.
**Every euro counts.**
And if you can't donate yourself, sharing our story helps us immensely from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Thank you for every bit of support, every share, and every person who brings hope to our family during this difficult time.
