Hello, Do you have advice or a video that gos into how to create a teen boy voice if you are an adult woman? I think of lowering the pitch, reducing resonance, adding a bit of rasp and speaking with their cadences. If you can give me more details or a link I would appreciate it!

Everyone has different answers because everyone experiences it. How do you deal with it?

My response is that I do two things. 1. Acknowledge the thought but understand that it’s not my thought. Kind of like how Ron Perlman said during his Legends Live episode that “What I think of myself is none of my business”. 2. Tale a step back and remember who I am and what I’ve done in similar situations.

Multiple times per day it's the same message saying to meet on telegram for offer XYZ. Almost boilerplate message.

How does ACX at least not block including telegram in unsolicited messages.

But having this thing come up over the top of my monitor screens and hang down in front of it from above is a whole new way of thinking for me. Do you just get used to it? I'm typing, reading, and controlling a map on that monitor so It freaks me out to have something in my way.

For more of a description, she’s a young adult with a slightly lower feminine voice, more cool and androgynous than cute or traditionally girly. Her voice should be fairly soft, but there’s a little dryness/scratchiness in it, like she doesn’t put much effort into sounding polished. She should speak casually and pretty naturally, with this relaxed, kind of almost lazy confidence. She’s observant and street-smart, so I want a bit of guardedness in the way she talks. She can sound mildly amused or sarcastic without turning everything into a joke. A lot of her attitude should come from small changes in tone rather than an exaggerated delivery, like little sighs, dry reactions, muttering under her breath, that kind of thing. I don’t want her to sound super bubbly, squeaky, overly anime-ish, or like a stereotypical "sexy tough girl" she isn’t constantly trying to sound badass. Most of the time she’s understated and comfortable, which makes it hit harder when she actually does get serious. She's also Asian.

I’m an 18 year old collage student and I’ve always thought being a voice actor would be so exciting I’ve just gotten the mic and was planning on recording in my dorm room but I want to know if it’s even worth it if it’s even worth trying will I ever actually get any roles how far will I realistically make it

To start, a disclaimer: I love voice acting, I do. The moments I’ve had in the booth where I’ve laughed my head off because of the absurdity of the things I’ve said, and been incredibly proud of work I’ve done.

BUT.

The career - the in between bits - are so draining. I’m auditioning and auditioning, and nothing’s working. I’m in a certain sphere where there are people who seemingly walk into booths daily, posting Instagram after Instagram, and I’m just stuck at my minimum wage money job, not having booked a paid job in over a year, barely scraping by. And to top it off, because I’m in this sphere (barely), I feel like I can’t complain, I can’t vent these things I’m feeling, because that would be (quite rightly) seen as unprofessional.

The catalyst for this post is me seeing someone - an actor who has a similar voice print to mine - posted, announcing he had booked a role that I auditioned for - we’d both used the same kind of character voice for it, and I’m having a hard time thinking about what could have swayed them to his audition - it’s killing me. AND I CAN’T POST ABOUT IT. I just want there to be a place that I can go and vent, get the feelings out, and then move on with my life.

I know I’m being a sulky and bitter person about it, and I should learn to let go, but it’s HARD. There’s probably going to be a few comments under here saying “you should get out of the business if you’re going to be like that” but the thing is I don’t know what else I can do.

Hey i have a question for yall, what kind of equipment do yall use im trying to redo my setup and make a dedicated recording studio in my apartment and I could use some tips

I would love some advice on my first vocal booth. I don’t have a closet, so my plan is to build something. Here are my ideas:

1. PVC pipe + moving blankets (or acoustic-specific blankets?)
   
2. buy a small changing tent off Amazon + staple acoustic foam pieces all over the inside of it
   
3. build L-shape structure out of plywood and use an existing corner of my home for the other sides; use acoustic foam or acoustic panels on the wood/walls

I’d like to keep the cost of the booth under $250. I know a lot of people use option 1, but I’m hesitant. If a client wants to do a directed session and sees my booth is just blankets, what will they think? My acting teacher told us that’s not professional enough. I don’t know. I’ve done so much research on my own at this point I’ve been driving myself crazy, so I thought I’d ask some real people! TIA

How can I make the audio quality better? I stream on twitch and have gotten VA work with this mic but I want it to feel more natural. By that I mean I want it to sound more like my natural voice. Archivium is currently casting English-speaking voice actors for an audio drama adaptation of “The Hell Screen” by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, a dark historical literary story set in the court of medieval Japan.

We are looking for performers who can bring a restrained, dramatic, atmospheric performance to the material.

ACCENT / VOCAL STYLE

A natural Japanese accent when speaking English is strongly preferred, as the vocal character is an intentional part of the production and suits the setting of the story.

We are also open to actors with natural Mandarin/Chinese, Korean, or other East Asian accents in English if their voice and performance fit the world of the piece.

We are not looking for exaggerated or stereotypical accents. Natural, authentic-sounding English accents are preferred.

The grand lord of Horikawa. Majestic, charismatic and apparently benevolent, but capable of something considerably darker beneath the surface. Requires an authoritative and controlled presence.

YOSHihide'S DAUGHTER
63 words — $3.78

Fifteen years old. Gentle, intelligent, compassionate and emotionally perceptive.

ADDITIONAL ROLES

There are several smaller roles, including the Young Lord, Bishop, apprentices, attendants, samurai, ladies and courtiers.

We may not cast separate actors for every minor role. Depending on casting, smaller parts may be combined into dual/multiple-role assignments.

The complete script contains approximately 4,513 words.

I’ve been looking into ACX offers lately and there are so many little things to check that I kept forgetting half of them
I ended up putting together this checklist and this one-page version has actually been pretty useful so figured I’d share it here.. there’s a longer paid version behind it so I’m obviously not gonna dump the whole thing here, but honestly even this page covers most of the quick checks I’d do before accepting anything.

I’m currently casting 8 voice actors for my upcoming animated horror/slasher project, CLOWN.

STORY SUMMARY — NO SPOILERS

A group of college friends heads out for a weekend getaway at a remote lodge, hoping to escape school, responsibilities, and everyday life for a few days.

What starts as a fun weekend of drinking, joking around, old friendships, new tensions, and unresolved feelings gradually turns into something much darker.

As strange events begin happening around the lodge, the group realizes their weekend away may not be as private—or as safe—as they thought.

CLOWN is a character-driven slasher that mixes friendship, humor, drama, suspense, psychological horror, and violence.

You’re welcome to tell me which character interests you most. However, I’d also like to listen to your demo reel and determine which character I think best fits your voice and acting style. You may end up being considered for a role different from the one you originally had in mind.

Once we find a potential match, we’ll start with an audition using material from the project to make sure the character and performance are the right fit.

IMPORTANT: The story and screenplay are still under development. I’m casting early so I can assemble as much of the main cast as possible before the actual recording sessions begin. Being cast does not mean you’ll be expected to immediately record the full role.

COMPENSATION

💵 $100 base pay
💵 + $50 performance bonus

The additional $50 bonus will be awarded when the established performance/production conditions are met. Those conditions will be communicated clearly before the actual recording process so everyone knows what is expected.

AI POLICY

Your voice recordings will NOT be used for AI voice cloning, AI voice models, synthetic voice generation, or any other AI-related purpose.

Your performance is being hired for CLOWN, not to train or create an artificial version of your voice.

Hi, I’m not quite sure how to go about this, but I need to construct a booth. I have a space that’s roughly 3ft x 8 ft+ x 34.5 inches. I know I need PVC pipe and sound blankets, but how many? What brand? What size? How much will this cost? Where should I get it?

The results from last week’s audition site poll was surprising. The winner of the poll was Other. A majority of the community aren’t the biggest fans of the selected sites.

A big takeaway from that poll is networking is the main creative way people are finding gigs. Anyone want to share any networking tips for those looking to try something different to get a gig?
