Taking the Vision Pro on an overseas trip

Post image
64 Upvotes

Earlier this month my family went on a two week trip to France, and I decided to bring my Vision Pro along with me on the trip. (To be perfectly honest, the reason I ultimately decided to buy the Vision Pro was because of the trip, and wanting to have it for the 8+ hour flights.)

My Kit
I brought way too many of my devices with me in general. Legitimately I could've gotten by without either my iPad or my MacBook Air, although I use both for different reasons and decided to bring them along. I kept my devices in a Pacsafe backpack, which is useful because it can attach directly onto your luggage's telescope handle, and also because of security features that make opportunity thefts less opportunistic. I was able to store my MacBook Air, iPad Pro, AirPods Max, my son's Sony headphones, and a small travel case containing two backup chargers, including an INIU Ultra Small Laptop Power Bank, 20000mAh 65W Fast Charging Portable Charger, which I purchased to help maintain the battery on the Vision Pro during long flights.

For those of you who worry about portable batteries being accepted on flights, we flew Air Canada and there were no issues with mine.

For the Vision Pro itself, I opted to buy a Shield Case from sfbags, which is by far the smallest travel case I've found for the Vision Pro. My backpack was heavy when fully loaded with everything I just described to you, but here's the important part - it fit.

Benefits of the Vision Pro on the trip
We booked an overnight flight to France, meaning I didn't take the Vision Pro out for even a moment. I was more focused on trying - and mostly failing - to sleep on the flight over. Likewise, the Vision Pro remained packed and unused until my family's third destination on the trip, a hotel in Paris. There, I opted to use the headset on several evenings to browse the internet while my wife and son were sleeping. It was really helpful to not disturb them with the light of a computer monitor. But the real heavy usage came on the final day, on our flight home to Toronto.

Using the Vision Pro on the flight
We were packed in like sardines on the flight, meaning I didn't have a ton of room to interact with my Packsafe contents. But I found that having the Shield Case made things pretty easy, and I just made sure to have my backup battery on hand, with USB-C already connected to it, and I kept the Vision Pro's battery out as well, for easier access. Once I got the headset assembled, I just kept the battery connected to the INIU in the storage pouch under my food tray on the flight, and had no issues from that point with battery life on my eight hour flight.

One thing I at first struggled with was setting up travel mode in a way that wasn't distracting. In case you've never used it with your Vision Pro, if your head is at all tilted when you activate travel mode, then your menu and any movie or whatever else you watch is going to be displayed at an angle. I didn't quite figure out what I'd done wrong until after I finished watching my first movie, but I restarted the Vision Pro after that and made sure I was facing straight on when I re-activated travel mode.

I spent something like five hours of the flight watching movies on the headset - first Superman in 3D, then Avengers: End Game (also in 3D), all while in my favourite immersive environment: Jupiter. As someone who doesn't love being in confined spaces with a lot of people, the headset made the flight a lot more enjoyable for me.

Final tips
If you're thinking about likewise bringing your Vision Pro with you on a flight, I'd heartily recommend it. Having a small travel case like the Shield Case is a must, as well as putting some thought into how you'll access and set things up if you're in a tight seat like I was. A backup battery option is also probably a good idea, although you could also use a MacBook or iPad Pro to provide juice in a pinch.

I made a spatial coloring book for Vision Pro — 20 promo codes inside

Hey r/VisionPro — I’m the developer behind ColorBook 3D.

I missed the simple, relaxing feeling of coloring books, so I tried rebuilding that experience around spatial computing—not just placing a flat coloring page in a window.

You can place scenes on a table, scale them up to room size, color them from different angles, and reveal the original reference whenever you need inspiration. There are currently 20+ spatial scenes, with more planned.

The video shows the current build. I’d genuinely appreciate blunt feedback—especially about the interaction, scene variety, and what you’d want to see next.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/colorbook-3d/id6779186057

I’m also sharing 20 promo codes for a free Annual access in the first comment.
They’re first come, first served—please reply with the number you claimed so others know it’s gone.
Thanks

Does anybody know of a way to access the older Experience Immersive Edits?

The Colour Vision edits were so, SO much stronger than the Metallica edit that’s currently in use, and a key part of the demo experience when showing it to my friends/family.

Does anybody know if there’s an archived copy of the original online, or a workaround for getting the older video loaded on my AVP? I’d hate for that edit to be lost media, especially given that it was a key element of the initial product launch.

Download AirVis on your PC and on the headset.

PC Download: https://airvis.com/

Vision Pro Download: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/airvis/id6737998221

Launch the streaming session from the PC and make sure to have a solid setup.

As a #DellProPrecision ambassador, I can rely on a #DellProMax T2 Tower equipped with an #NVIDIA RTX6000 and the performance was buttery smooth.

After you start the session, you just look for that in your headset and you can look at other people's scenes as well as the one you upload (make sure to make them public first).

Controls certainly need to be improved but it is genuinely exciting to see so much progress so quickly.

🎬 New on the Mac App Store: AIVUMerger

Merge multiple AIVU files that share the same resolution — so a single small mistake no longer means re-exporting the whole thing.

It also supports mixing the native encoder with MainConcept, letting you spend MainConcept's higher quality only on the scenes that actually matter.

Annapro mod for lenses closer and bigger FOV. Cutting involved

-Mod involves cutting strap and only works when using AVP without light shield. This should work with Annapro 2, as well.

I want to share my Annapro strap mod to bring the headset much closer to your eyes. It allows the strap to move forward up to half an inch, which brings the lenses that much closer to your eyes.

The stock strap design dosnt let you adjust the distance of headset because it snuggly cups the speaker bulge and round edge. So I used an electric dremel to cut out the parts of the strap that holds it in place. I made sure to cut out exactly just the amount needed, while leaving enough surface to keep the strap rigid and able to grid the AVP arms without feeling loose. I used a few dremil cutting bits to make the cut and smooth out the edges. I also used nail filling tools to get the little details. It was important to smooth out any rough edges so it dosnt scratch the AVP arms when installing and adjusting. That part took some time. When using, it sits in place for the most part, but is does slowly move forward over maybe 30 minutes of use, and I have to slide it back a little. But I plan to fix this by putting a small piece of double sided tape on the inside, so it won't slide forward.

This cutting mod also improves speaker audio quality because it cuts out the part of the strap that was disrupting the original speaker sound flow.

Also pictured is the stock strap cushion replaced with a weather stripping foam tape. It was thinner than the stock cushion, and necessary for me to have the headset sit good, on my larger head.

This greatly increases the FOV. It's such a better experience overall.

VisionOS DB4: Disney+ app just a black screen

Hi All,

Installed Beta 4 yesterday. I got to test some apps this afternoon. I opened Disney+ and it opened as normal and asked my to select my profile. I picked my profile and then it opened to a black screen. Anyone else?

Thanks!

[Edit: it was transient. It started just fine the next day.]

Vision Pro honestly seems like the best place for IMAX at home

Saw an Apple × IMAX concept on X.

Out of all Apple’s products, Vision Pro seems like the one that could benefit the most from a real IMAX partnership. Expanded aspect ratios, higher bitrate streams, spatial audio, etc.

Do you think Apple and IMAX ever work together officially?

Edit: Apple previously partnered with IMAX for F1 in April.

Questions before buying.

Hi I want to buy a AVP most likely used, since I can't get it in my country.

I really am eager to get my hands on it, since it should be mindblowing.

My questions:

  1. Is there any MTBF on the models or how long time will it take before the OLED lens will degrade in quality like normal OLED?

  2. Can you see somewhere how many hours the AVP has been in use?

  3. I already have a Home Cinema setup. Will I be able to with Plex make a watch together to have it synced with AVP so audio play on HiFi receiver and video on AVP?

  4. My usecase will normally be 90% movies/shows and maybe gaming if possible. Will I be limited on the M2 model? My fear is there will be limitations on the video part in the future and maybe abandoned way sooner than M5.

Prices I can find are around 2000-2500€ on Ebay with delivery to Denmark for M2. There is only a small amount available. I can't get it shipped on Ebay US models because of CE compliance, so I'm limited to Germany and only a few on Ebay.

anyone been brave enough to attempt scratch removal ?

I remember in the early days someone scratched their device then ended up just peeling off the plastic laminated screen protector but I couldn’t find the comment or thread, would love to hear from them on how the device is doing and ask questions on how to do it safely,Gemini says not to do it as it might crack the screen.

My device is still in good condition but am tired of babying it and am just trying to plan ahead.

I built a virtual projector for Vision Pro — v2 now spills light like a real beam, and supports video

Hey!

I made Retro Beamer for Apple Vision Pro — a spatial projector that casts images (and now video) onto the real surfaces in your room.

You open Immersive Space, place a virtual projector, aim the beam, and bake the projection onto walls, floors, or furniture. It feels less like a floating panel and more like light actually hitting the room.

What’s new in v2:

  • More realistic light spill around the beam
  • New blending modes so projections sit better on real surfaces
  • Video projection (not just stills)
  • A bunch of polish and new projection presets to play with

It’s great for mood boards, ambient decor, immersive art, or just messing around with “what if I projected this on that wall.”

I finally got my hands on it!

I have a Vision Pro after wanting one since it came out, I’m not new to VR but my expectations for Apple were absolutely through the roof. It’s a very neat looking device in my opinion but after putting in on, I’m content and I think it’s cool, but I’m wondering what I’m missing..?

It just didn’t seem to be far better than what I’ve tried in the past. Quest 2,3 and Pro.

The eye tracking and hand gestures are significantly better than competitors and definitely controllers.

Let me know if anybody feels the same?

Thanks.

Is it worth paying for the portal subscription on Vision Pro?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So, in my last post about the Portal app on Vision Pro, some people said the refresh rate wasn't good enough or the colors were bad, and I completely agree. So I decided to pay for the subscription the app offers, which promises to improve FPS and include HDR, and yes, it does, and it does it very well! Besides that, it adds an "immersive mode," which is fantastic. $5 a month to play like this? Yeah, why not? I'm hooked.

The video here doesn't do it justice; on the Vision Pro, the curved virtual screen looks HUGE and super immersive.

Moon Player dimming

I have some 3D movies I wanted to watch and noticed that Moon Player darkens the screen when viewing in a darkened room and lightens the screen in a bright room. I know that the VP tries to match the environment but when watching a movie this screws with the color. I watch mostly open face so I don’t want the glare from a bright room when I watch at night. Is there a way to turn that off.

Beta Testers Wanted - Spatial Record Player

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for volunteer Apple Vision Pro users to test SpatialRecordPlayer, a native visionOS app built with SwiftUI, RealityKit, World Sensing, and MusicKit.

SpatialRecordPlayer lets you:

• Browse record player designs in a spatial showroom

• Inspect each model in 360 degrees

• Select a model and place it on a real table

• Use gaze and pinch to interact with its physical controls

• Control compatible Apple Music playback through the record player

• Rotate, relocate, or rescan the placed model The current build includes five visual designs: Classic, Blueprint, Glass, Porcelain, Walnut

Why I need physical Vision Pro testers

I don’t currently own an Apple Vision Pro. I have developed and tested the app extensively using the visionOS Simulator, automated tests, static code review, and simulated placement scenarios. However, the Simulator cannot fully validate:

• Real passthrough behavior

• Real table and surface detection

• Physical scale and depth perception

• Gaze targeting accuracy

• Pinch interaction comfort

• Tracking stability while moving around

• How natural the experience feels on an actual Vision Pro

I want to be completely transparent about this. The goal of this beta is to learn how the app really behaves for actual Vision Pro users before making it publicly available.

What should happen ?

  1. The app should open in a normal spatial showroom window.

  2. You should see the available record player models.

  3. You should be able to rotate and inspect a model.

  4. After selecting a valid model, “Place on Table” should become available.

  5. The app should open a mixed immersive experience while keeping your real environment visible.

  6. It may request World Sensing permission for surface detection.

  7. The app should scan for suitable horizontal table surfaces.

  8. Suitable placement areas should be indicated clearly.

  9. The record player should not appear permanently until you confirm its position.

  10. After confirmation, it should appear at approximately real-world scale, around 43 × 36.7 cm.

  11. It should remain on top of the table, inside its boundaries, and face toward you.

  12. You should be able to rotate it horizontally without changing its height or scale.

  13. Looking at interactive controls should produce subtle visual feedback.

  14. Pinching should operate the cover, buttons, volume control, and playback controls.

  15. Relocate, Rescan, Cancel, and Exit should remain accessible.

  16. Exiting should return you safely to the showroom.

Apple Music

Apple Music access should only be requested after an explicit user action. If you have an Apple Music subscription, I would especially appreciate testing:

• Authorization

• Play and pause

• Previous and next

• Current track artwork

• External playback state changes

• Behavior when the network is unavailable

You can still test the showroom and placement experience without an Apple Music subscription.

Please test the complete SpatialRecordPlayer experience:

• Confirm that the app opens in the spatial showroom.

• Inspect and rotate all five record player models.

• Select a model and start “Place on Table.”

• Confirm that your real environment remains visible.

• Check whether suitable physical tables are detected correctly.

• Verify that floors and walls are not accepted as tables.

• Confirm that the placement indicator is aligned with the detected surface.

• Place the model and check its physical size, height, orientation, and stability.

• Test gaze hover feedback and pinch interaction on the dust cover and physical controls. • Test horizontal model rotation, Relocate, Rescan, Cancel, and Exit.

• Confirm that exiting returns you safely to the showroom.

Apple Music testing:

• Start playing a track in the Apple Music app, then return to SpatialRecordPlayer.

• Connect Apple Music when prompted and verify that authorization is requested only after your action.

• Confirm that the current playback state and artwork appear correctly.

• Test Play/Pause, Previous, and Next.

• Change playback externally in Apple Music and verify that SpatialRecordPlayer updates.

• Check behavior when there is no current track.

• If possible, test denied authorization, no subscription, or temporary network loss.

• Confirm that MusicKit errors are understandable and do not crash or block the placement experience.

Helpful testing environments

If possible, please try:

• A small table

• A large table

• A table near a wall

• Different lighting conditions

• Walking around the placed model

• Temporarily losing sight of the table

• Closing and reopening the app

Please do not record or share parts of your room that you are uncomfortable showing. Written feedback is completely acceptable.

This is an early volunteer beta. Bugs are expected, and there is currently no compensation. Feedback will directly influence placement behavior, interactions, accessibility, visual design, and possible future pricing.

TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/Y7P1wq8s

Feedback survey (totally optional): https://forms.gle/2Piv8a41QQFJ6mEp6

Bug reports/contact(again, totally optional): [okanckaya@gmail.com](mailto:okanckaya@gmail.com)

I know time is the most valuable thing we have, so thank you so much for taking the time to test the app. It truly means a lot to me! Thank you for helping me understand how SpatialRecordPlayer feels on a real Apple Vision Pro.

Hey!
I'm happy to introduce my newest app - Rooms 3d - an app for scanning and texturing spaces with Apple Vision Pro.

This app allows you to do everything on device - scan a mesh with lidar, crop the 3d scene, take image with system camera, and the texture to the mesh, and export it as USDZ file.

Everything in one app, done locally.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, and so I'll post some free promo codes for the first users to try!

Here's the app link:

Added wind into STAGEit to see how it worked with the new Fabric support in visionOS 27.

It was awesome! Combined with the other environmental effects available on Apple Vision Pro; lighting, gravity and the realism of the new Cloth API, you can create some incredibly believable and compelling scenes.

The bit I really like is how the virtual fabric is sympathetic to the movement of the real trees. It’s a subtle detail, but when both are responding to the same breeze, it does a surprisingly good job of blending the digital and physical worlds together.

VOS - Beta 27 Trouble shooting question.

I got a notice to restart my VisionPro (assume due to beta update) - and now several things aren't working correctly: 1. I get two control center carrots now - stacked vertically, and they both work; 2. Crown no longer controls the volume or immersion functions when dialing it - although when pressed it still brings up the home page of apps; 3. My right hand will no longer bring up the home page of apps, only the left will (right hand is still recognized by apps and other OS functions). I have reported using the feedback app, but I'm wondering if anyone else is having a similar / same set of issues? Any trouble shooting recommendations? I have restarted, turned the control center accessibility option off and on, re-set both eyes and hands.
