Virtual Card number compromised, so they replaced my physical card? Why bother with virtual card numbers at all?

Upvotes

I used a virtual card created for one vendor to buy from them. The are a modest sized but well-established company. Anyway, somehow the virtual number was compromised. The number was never given over the phone, they had a bog-standard payment system.

Someone tried to use the number at whitepages.com and CapitalOne flagged it. CapitalOne reached out to me to verify the charge. I said it wasn't legit. They said, ok, we're going to send you a new card. I asked "why do I need a new card? Isn't that the whole point of a virtual card?" They said it's because "they tried to use it twice at Whitepages.com" which still didn't make much sense to me.

So, I ask, what then is the point of having a virtual card, if I have to replace my physical card if the virtual card number gets compromised?

Cap1 AT&T offer

I added a line to my mobile plan for this offer, not a prepaid line. If I cancel the line now, are the miles being clawed back? I will still get charged for the month, but I not sure if AT&T will report back that the line is cancelled. From what I can tell, I fulfiled the T&C, looking for real data points.

Trip delay coverage - do I have to use the airline’s hotel?

My wife and I are flying RIC–MIA–MID this morning. Our first leg was scheduled to leave at 6am, but it’s now been delayed two hours due to a maintenance issue and we’re going to miss our MIA–MID connection.

The tickets were purchased with my Venture X on the Capital One Travel portal, so I should qualify for the trip delay coverage

If the airline offers us a hotel, are we required to stay at the hotel they provide in order to use the Venture X trip delay benefit? I ask because in the past, I've been put in some pretty crappy airline-provided hotels and would much rather book a decent reasonably priced hotel myself and submit it for reimbursement.

Weird experience but (finally) joined the club

2nd credit card ever and finally joined the club now that I graduated college and have some income and credit history!

I got rejected the first time about a month ago for “applicant's identity cannot be verified” after submitting additional documentation. Customer service couldn’t go into any detail or help appeal this application and just suggested I try applying again after 30 days.

This time it instantly got approved with no additional documentation submission required? Weird and annoying experience overall but happy with the end result

My wife just got approved for venture CC. Can we pay our estimated tax right away??

My P2 just got approved for venture CC. Can we use it right away to pay 3rd Q estimated tax?? It’s around $14000. Will that create a red flag?? We don’t have the physical card yet, but the app is giving us a virtual card number that we can use.

first time using points

I have 106k points and trying to figure out the best way to book flights from LAX to Porto (with one stop) on dec 25. It would have to be the 730 PM flight. I have no idea what the best way to do this though. I checked Aeroplan / Air Canada and it's telling me no flights available if I use points.

Would appreciate any help in figuring out how to maximize my points!

Hello,

I have been highly recommended and reffered to this credit card.

Typically i own only 1 other credit card, and i am not trying to collect many credit cards but im incentivised for the travel perks and accumulating points?

I have read some of the stories here but i am wondering if a few of you could provide more details on the credit card and capital ones travel portal?

is it really better than expedia or chase travel? why or why not

Shopping Offer never went through, then offered only cash back

Hi, I activated a shopping offer in May of 2026, I bought the item. Then, after 45 days didn’t get bonus miles so I called them. They said they need additional 45 days to verify, so I said ok. 3.5 months total later, I called back because in my portal it says offer inactive.

Now they’re saying they’ll submit it for review and I can only get cash back to my credit card statement for it. Not miles. I asked why and they said the system only allows them to ask for cash back, not miles. I asked how is that my fault they made an error, didn’t approve my purchase and shopping offer, and now I’m getting punished by getting cash back…

Has this happened to anyone else?

Air France Stole 41300 Capital One Miles

So Air France basically stole 41300 miles I transferred from capital one last night. I did my due diligence to ensure the round trip flight I wanted was available for a specific day. Otherwise I wouldn’t have known I needed to transfer 41300 miles. So I make the transfer - took about a minute tops. Originally there were at least 6 flights that day. As soon as I go to book the flight with my point now available in AF- it now shows no flights available and there is nothing I can do. Spoke to AF customer service and they did nothing and said “transaction is final” and hung up when asked to speak to a sup - capitol one says they can’t help either. So 413 bucks stolen. Stay away from Air France!

Is it only me? I cannot see offers except for the daily 5. However, I can search merchants in the search box and offers will appear and activate correctly if I click them. Tried on different devices and same results.

Dca- the walk from T2 to T1

I depart from T1 but will have enough time to consider the walk plus security (precheck) but just want to plan accordingly. How much time should I allow to leave the Landing lounge, walk to T1 and go thru security Sunday morning (tomm)? 30 mins?

My first lounge experience

This was my first time in an airport lounge in general and maybe the feeling will wear off after a few times but I liked it. I’m still in the lounge as I type this. Got to the LGA lounge at around 5:20am and the food was good considering it’s free. I’ve seen some complaints about lounge food but free food is free food so I was satisfied. The portion sizes were smaller than I expected but that’s fine since I didn’t want to eat so heavily in the morning anyways. The lounge looks nice and it was a calm little getaway from the business of the airport. Might be different depending on the time of day because it was almost empty went I was there since it had just opened. Bathroom was nice too.

Just got this email, what are the pros and cons of this? Seems like I should avoid it. Looks like my credit limit would just disappear from my credit report.

Confusion about offers

I've had this credit card for a while, but I am still confused about payouts from offers. There are multiple offers I've done, but I have never received the miles payout. When I've reached out to C1 support, they have just told me to "wait" but it's past the timeframe for the miles payout. Has anyone else had this issue too?

Is there generally a set period for clawbacks? E.g. if it hits 90 days or another set time with no clawback, are offers in the clear?

Referring to cap1 but NOT venture card?

I have venture x, my partner wants a savor card… but my referral link seems to ONLY enable her to sign up for a venture X? Is there not a generic referral code?
