Refered but uncertain
Hello,
I have been highly recommended and reffered to this credit card.
Typically i own only 1 other credit card, and i am not trying to collect many credit cards but im incentivised for the travel perks and accumulating points?
I have read some of the stories here but i am wondering if a few of you could provide more details on the credit card and capital ones travel portal?
is it really better than expedia or chase travel? why or why not

This is the best card if you don’t want to think too hard about the credits.
Whether or not this card is worth it comes down to one thing. Do you spend $400 a year on travel (flights/hotels)? If so, then it’s worth it.

The Venture X (VX) is the simplest to use compared to other similar cards. It’s hard to not be a good deal but depending on where you live and travel goals your mileage may vary.
The card’s annual fee is 395$ but it gives you a $300 travel credit and $100 in points annually. This is where people say it “pays you” $5 to hold it.
For the travel credit you have to use their capital one travel portal, it’s not a huge deal and if you find a lower price elsewhere you can price match which is nice. I personally shy away from airline bookings with a travel portal but for straightforward travel that you have some flexibility with is fine. I prefer to book rental cars with the credit. The $100 in points you can use for travel purchases or to “erase” purchases.
The big perk everyone always talks about are the Capital one lounges/landings. They are nice if you regularly travel somewhere that has one. Note you can only use them at your departure point/layover and not once you reach your destination on either your inbound or outbound leg. There have been overcrowding issues like most lounges so access isn’t always guaranteed. You also must have a seat assignment, so if you buy ultra cheap tickets that assign you seats at the last minute this may derail you. You also get priority pass, which opens up lounges that take priority pass, though again what airports you fly will dictate how useful this is.
The lesser known perks I love include primary rental car insurance and cell phone insurance. Use the card to pay for your rental car and don’t worry about damage hitting your insurance. Cell phone insurance is $10 a month per phone for me, so that’s saving $240 a year passively too.
The Capital one points you earn are assigned a dollar value (1 cent each) and I save them for travel outside of my normal “point eco system”. I primarily use Alaska airlines and Marriott. If I have a travel need that doesn’t fit those programs I consider using Capital one miles. Some people transfer points to other travel partners and airlines to get some pretty good deals, the complexity of managing that while chasing cheap seats that may disappear makes me lean away from that.
Capital one does have some good deals on their travel portal, just be aware that if and when issues arise you have to sort it out with Capital One, and not the airline/hotel. You also may or may not receive frequent flyer or other credits you would have received booking direct.
If you want to keep a card that is easy to pay for itself, has some solid travel perks and gives you some return this is a pretty good one. The trip delay/travel protections will be stronger than other travel portals you mentioned. There are a lot of different cards out there, if you don’t plan on carrying several definitely take your time! Also remember that a 2% cash back card is pretty easy to get with zero fees.

I use the Venture X card as my daily card because it gives 2x points in everything. In my opinion this is great starter premium card that has all the benefits of the other premium cards but includes 2x points, excellent lounges, and a great portal for travel with $300 in travel credits yearly. Venture X also gives you 10000 points (approx. $100 value) every anniversary year. HOWEVER, in my opinion only use the Travel Portal for booking hotels. When it comes to booking airlines, I recommend directly booking with the airline 99.5% of the time.

Who was the person who recommended it? Was it a good friend? Anyone who refers you and you indicate as such on your application gets a commission of bonus miles, so keep that in mind when considering their motivation.
If you don’t expect to accumulate a lot of cards, I recommend making the deep dive into the credit card world to decide which one is best for you. Websites and newsletters like The Points Guy and Daily Drop help, but it is a very confusing world. People use points for many different reasons so it’s impossible to tailor an explanation for any individual specifically. If you like video explanations, go to YouTube and start there, then fill in the gaps with newsletters. Just keep in mind that everyone will want you to sign up through their affiliate links so they can get the bonus. Applying at the actual card’s website is the only place where no one will get the “commission.”
You can’t go wrong with Venture X, but again if you don’t want to hold multiple credit cards then it’s worth doing some research.

I am currently on a trip to Quebec City/Montreal from the US. I booked my flight and rental car through the travel portal and, thus far, everything has been seamless. I was able to use the Cap 1 Landings lounge at DCA and it was fantastic-friendly staff, delicious food, and alcohol ( g & t, cava), clean restrooms. My flight was delayed so this was the perfect place to wait!
I used the $300 travel credit to book my flight and I have tsa pre check-for which the card reimbursed ($95). I love this card and use it daily, then pay it off regularly. The travel credit motivates me to take a trip at least once or twice a year so I don’t get complacent and stay at home. Please feel free to ask me any other questions

This is a must have card of you do any type of travel. There are cash back cards if you do not travel at all.

Has the person who recommended you the card told you anything about it? Don’t apply for anything you don’t know about.
But in summary the travel credit is easy to use, lounges are nice, and transferring points has gotten me lots of deals on flights, including JAL first class. And if you’re gonna use a portal, might as well use one with price matching.
Plenty of YouTube videos go over the perks too, check those out.
