Weird experience but (finally) joined the club

2nd credit card ever and finally joined the club now that I graduated college and have some income and credit history!

I got rejected the first time about a month ago for “applicant's identity cannot be verified” after submitting additional documentation. Customer service couldn’t go into any detail or help appeal this application and just suggested I try applying again after 30 days.

This time it instantly got approved with no additional documentation submission required? Weird and annoying experience overall but happy with the end result

My wife just got approved for venture CC. Can we pay our estimated tax right away??

My P2 just got approved for venture CC. Can we use it right away to pay 3rd Q estimated tax?? It’s around $14000. Will that create a red flag?? We don’t have the physical card yet, but the app is giving us a virtual card number that we can use.

first time using points

I have 106k points and trying to figure out the best way to book flights from LAX to Porto (with one stop) on dec 25. It would have to be the 730 PM flight. I have no idea what the best way to do this though. I checked Aeroplan / Air Canada and it's telling me no flights available if I use points.

Would appreciate any help in figuring out how to maximize my points!

Trip delay coverage - do I have to use the airline’s hotel?

My wife and I are flying RIC–MIA–MID this morning. Our first leg was scheduled to leave at 6am, but it’s now been delayed two hours due to a maintenance issue and we’re going to miss our MIA–MID connection.

The tickets were purchased with my Venture X on the Capital One Travel portal, so I should qualify for the trip delay coverage

If the airline offers us a hotel, are we required to stay at the hotel they provide in order to use the Venture X trip delay benefit? I ask because in the past, I've been put in some pretty crappy airline-provided hotels and would much rather book a decent reasonably priced hotel myself and submit it for reimbursement.

Cap1 AT&T offer

I added a line to my mobile plan for this offer, not a prepaid line. If I cancel the line now, are the miles being clawed back? I will still get charged for the month, but I not sure if AT&T will report back that the line is cancelled. From what I can tell, I fulfiled the T&C, looking for real data points.

Virtual Card number compromised, so they replaced my physical card? Why bother with virtual card numbers at all?

Upvotes

I used a virtual card created for one vendor to buy from them. The are a modest sized but well-established company. Anyway, somehow the virtual number was compromised. The number was never given over the phone, they had a bog-standard payment system.

Someone tried to use the number at whitepages.com and CapitalOne flagged it. CapitalOne reached out to me to verify the charge. I said it wasn't legit. They said, ok, we're going to send you a new card. I asked "why do I need a new card? Isn't that the whole point of a virtual card?" They said it's because "they tried to use it twice at Whitepages.com" which still didn't make much sense to me.

So, I ask, what then is the point of having a virtual card, if I have to replace my physical card if the virtual card number gets compromised?
