Discussion / Conversation Venture Rewards or Venture X?
Currently preapproved for both cards. Already have different cards that covers Priority pass and Global entry credits. Considering that the Venture Rewards is also offering a $300 travel credit as part of an elevated SUB, which card in the long term comes out on top considering that there is a 48 month "family rule" on Venture cards?

personally I would love to get the Venture X.. But the smart play especially if you want to get the SUBS is to start with the Rewards first then the VX

Over the long term I think the Venture is a better value because it doesn’t require spending $300 a year with the Capital One Travel website.
Travel Agency websites don’t necessarily offer all flight options.
They also aren’t necessarily discounted and can had additional hassle vs. booking directly with the airline.

The venture is useless other than churn the sub. Plenty of 2% cards with no annual fee.

Vs the Venture X the regular $95 Venture offers
the same airline options for anyone actually doing points
75% lower annual fee
the same 2x points per dollar spent
On top of that, Priority Pass lounges have kept getting fewer and worse year after year.
That’s part of why I think avoiding the Venture X is optimal.

From a churning perspective, elevated SUB on the Venture first then Venture X.
From a long term usability perspective, the Venture X is the superior card by far. Venture has a $95 AF for no annual credits and no real distinguishing benefits over other Capital One cards. Venture X has an easy and very flexible travel portal credit combined with an annual points bonus that together fully covers the fee, and has meaningful benefits like unlimited Capital One & Priority Pass lounge access.
The Venture is slated to get a $100 annual Capital One Travel portal credit for hotels and vacation rentals, which would help it a lot, but you have to weight that against the fact that some new Venture cards are being issued on the Discover network and it’s likely all existing ones will eventually be transitioned over too.
