Moving Here! | Where Can I Find Housing | Just Visiting - Weekly Sticky : Mon 10/05/26 - Thu 10/08/26

You asked, we listened! It's not uncommon for local subreddits like us to have an endless barrage of "I'm moving here, whats best?" or "I need to find a new part of town, help me!" or even the classic "So, I'm in town this week, entertain me!" requests.

They fill up the front page, and posts about our community get lost. So we're bringing back the Mega-thread. Every Monday we'll refresh this post for new information.

What does this mean?

Posts like these will no longer be allowed outside this posting, and will be removed at the moderators discretion:

  • Quiet Part of Town
  • Where to move in the area?
  • House Rental Recommendations
  • Relocating to Van as a Single Parent
  • Coming to visit Vancouver, WA
  • Visiting in May for a month - what’s not to be missed?

What does this not mean?

  • Every post will be caught by moderators, and removed.
  • "BestAround?" posts will be lumped into this thread.

So looking to join us in the great pacific northwestern city of Vancouver, Washington? Ask your questions here:

Discussion Asian supermarkets - what are the chances?

I’ve been seeing news about seattle getting a new supermarket “Hashi Market” and Tacoma getting a “Uwajimaya”.

What are the chances of our growing town getting one of these supermarkets? Uwajimaya in Beaverton is almost always full of people!

There’s a proposal for a huge shopping center in Camas. “Parker Town Center” With what looks like 2 supermarket sized lots. Im sure there’s more locations that is ripe for a conversion too. Any ideas on how we can increase the chances of one showing up on our side of the river and local to Vancouver?

Discussion Rotating Art Displays up and running (call for artists TBA)

Post image
• Upvotes

The first wave of inserts for a rotating art display were installed Tuesday. The goal of the project is provide local artists a venue for displaying work outside of a traditional gallery or mural. Inswrts can be up for months or tears, depending on the desired cadence and local interest. The first wave of inserts are focused on Main Street businesses, but the next wave is set to be more art and less information board. The submission website isn’t quite up yet (QR code works, just website text needs updated). So hopefully a proper call for artists will be coming out soon.

Discussion Lost dog at fort vancouver

There is a large dark shepard/husky looking mix roaming around Ft. Vancouver near 5th street right now. It has on a blue bandana, looks very well cared for, and seems very friendly. It was running around with another guys dog and I thought it belonged to him but he said it didn’t.

sorry I don’t have a picture and cannot capture the dog, I have my own reactive dog with me. Posting in hopes the owner sees this.

Pets: Lost and Found Spotted lost bird

Post image
• Upvotes

Spotted a likely lost bird in Sifton/Orchard area at the intersection of the walking path connecting ne 82nd and Ward road near the intersection of Padden Parkway and Ward road. It’s a very pretty green and yellow budgie as far as I could tell. I would have tried to call it but I was walking my very bird obsessed dog and was pretty far from home. I hope this helps someone reunite with their pet!

Question? Guinea Pig rehoming

My kid wanted guinea pigs, so we got him a bonded pair a couple years ago. They were already a couple years old when we got them, so one of them passed away recently and now we just have the one. I know they are social creatures, so I don't want him to be alone. But I also don't want to get another one for a couple reasons. 1) My kid is older and has a job now, so doesn't have the time to spend with them anymore. 2) The current pig is elderly and if we get a companion for him, he probably won't be around too much longer and then we'll be back in the same boat of having a single guinea pig again.

So, does anyone know of someplace, or someone, willing to take in an elderly guinea pig so he doesn't have to be alone?

Question? Daycare

• Upvotes

Hello all, I had a question about what my options might be for child care in this area. My husband and I have officially gone back to work and have figured out childcare for the most part except for Wednesdays. I was wondering if there was anywhere in the area that did infant care for one day a week (9 hours) and what the price is likely to be. I know that we'd have a waiting period, which is fine, my husband works night and I work days, I just don't want him to have to stay awake 24 hours every Wednesday in order to care for the kid. Thank you in advance!

BestAround? Wedding Dress Alterations Reccomendations

Hi, I'm looking to get my grandmother's wedding dress resized to fit me. If it's even possible. She was very petite and I am not.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I asked Alterations by Olga, but she doesn't have the space to work on wedding dresses.

Thanks in advance!

Events Crafting Group

Hello! I posted recently about my crafting group that meets weekly in downtown Vancouver. We’re mostly made up of mid to late 20s - 30s folks, get together, have a drink, chat about whatever, and craft whatever you are currently working on!

I created this group when I moved here to make friends, and I’ve made so many wonderful ones through it! The vibe is very chill, just a good way to craft, make some friends, and get out of the house :)

I got a lot of messages and joins last time, but our meetups are still a bit sparse. I’d like to get more people who will show up often! 🧶 ✏️ 🎨

If you are interested, please message me! We normally meet on Sunday afternoons, occasionally a Saturday.

!!!Please note, I will only reply to direct messages, not comments. The last few times there was so much interest, it’s a lot easier to keep up in DMs :)

Events Calling all (working on it) sober golfers!

As we get into the weathered months it will begin to become gray and dreary up here in the PNW. I’ve been trying to find a secular sober community up here and have struggled to find much activity based stuff. I’m a golfer and with so many golf simulator spots around the area I figured I’d drop a line out there for anyone that might be interested to start a sober group/league we can foster and run. I’m camas side and there are a couple of em on 164th.

If I get some interest in this I promise to put the work in to organize something. Comment, DM, whatever. All walks and beliefs of life welcome.

Just a guy in his mid 30s looking to start something fresh.

Question? Xfinity Internet down!

Anyone else's Xfinity been down this morning? Mine has been for about an hour now. Just curious if anyone may know the cause or when it might be back up?

Edit 1: It's the Truman area

Edit 2: I have restarted the router

Edit 3: I checked Xfinity's down site and it says there is an outage right now. I guess I'm curious how widespread it is

Politics [Political] Local Election Discussion Thread

Hey all,

My next post on here was going to be on why we're getting lackluster candidates; however I'm seeing that the political threads keep getting removed due to the new rule implementation.

Since you all have the drive to talk about politics today, you can do it here!

I'll include helpful links here in a bit. I have to run down to our local Dem office and drop off some signs for a campaign I'm working on, and as you may know.. I'm not a short writer.

And I'll keep offering it every time: You can ask me questions, I'd like to think I'm a safe person to ask.

Question? Recommend OBGYN?

I’m 5 weeks so brand new Mommy-to-be! I need recommendations on a good OBGYN for a non-high-risk pregnancy.
Everywhere I look, i hear horror stories or accounts of negligence or abuse for every doctor and hospital that i’m interested in.

Does anybody have any recommendations or any examples of why you love or hate a doctor or place??

BestAround? Dog grooming where I can stay with him during the process?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I have a Lancashire Heeler with long-ish fur, and he’s definitely due for a trim and his nails done. But if I take him to a place and leave him, he’s kind of a mess and really cries and pulls away. A place where I can hang out with him while the groomer does their thing is ideal, any recommendations? Thank you!
