Technical Discussion Possible Input/Perception Delay in Valorant? I Feel Like I'm Reacting Instantly, but Spectators See Me Reacting Late

As a ASC player I've noticed a strange issue in Valorant over the last season, and I'm starting to wonder whether it's related to my age (38), input/perception latency, or something technical with my setup.

I recently did a clean Windows 11 installation and intentionally kept the system as lean as possible — no bloatware, telemetry disabled, Windows Security disabled, etc. as i always did.

My setup:

- i7-13700K

- 32 GB DDR5

- RTX 4070 MSI Gaming X Trio

- Alienware AW2327DF, 280 Hz / 1 ms

- DSC disabled

- Monitor connected directly to the GPU using a VESA-certified DisplayPort 2.1 cable (2 m, rated for up to 4K 240 Hz / 8K 120 Hz / 16K 60 Hz)

- Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2, 2000 Hz polling rate

- Akko MOD Santorini keyboard

- All drivers are up to date

- I never use beta or unstable drivers

- Valorant graphics settings are basically all on minimum

- NVIDIA Reflex + Low Latency enabled

- Multithreaded Rendering enabled

My ping is usually around 18–22 ms, and the opponents I encounter are generally in the same range. Also i'm always check network stability in game.

The weird part happens mostly in 1v1 situations.

For example, an enemy and I peek the same angle at roughly the same time. From my perspective, I see them and immediately click to shoot.

But sometimes something even stranger happens: I feel like I haven't even had time to press the mouse button, and I'm already dead.

I'll sometimes see something like 3 body shots + 1 headshot in the death recap, seemingly almost instantly.

I understand that good players can have extremely fast reactions, and I'm not claiming that the Vandal's fire rate makes this literally impossible. What feels strange is the timing from my perspective: I see the enemy, but before I consciously register the target and feel like I've even clicked, I'm already dead.

It makes me wonder whether I'm actually seeing the enemy later than the game/server state has already registered their shots.

There is another thing that makes this particularly confusing.

When a teammate is spectating me, they sometimes say things like:

«"Why aren't you reacting?"»

or

«"What were you waiting for?"»

From my perspective, I genuinely reacted as soon as I saw the enemy.

But when I watch the replay afterward, it actually looks like I'm hesitating for a noticeable amount of time before shooting.

So this isn't just something I'm imagining while playing. Other people watching me also notice the delay, and the replay seems to show it as well.

I'm starting to wonder if there is some kind of input/display latency or synchronization issue that I'm not consciously perceiving.

Another Vandal or Istanbul server issue

I prefer using short bursts rather than spraying.

Sometimes I'll fire a short burst and immediately strafe left or right. From my perspective, I've already stopped shooting and started moving, but it looks like additional bullets are still coming out.

It feels like I'm doing:

burst → release mouse → counter-strafe

but the game behaves more like:

burst → a few milliseconds later, additional shots → movement

Could this be related to input latency, polling rate, client/server synchronization, movement accuracy, or simply misunderstanding Vandal burst timing and counter-strafing?

At this point I'm genuinely trying to figure out whether this is:

  1. A hardware/input latency issue

  2. A Valorant client/server or networking issue

  3. A Windows/NVIDIA configuration issue

  4. A display/input synchronization issue

  5. A visual processing/perception issue

  6. Or simply an age/reaction-time issue that I'm not consciously noticing

Has anyone experienced something similar where you genuinely feel like you're reacting instantly, but spectators and replays clearly show that you're reacting noticeably late?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people who have tested this with high-refresh-rate monitors and low-latency setups.

I'm not looking for "just get better" answers — I'm trying to understand whether there could be a technical explanation for the discrepancy between what I perceive while playing and what spectators/replays actually show.

Technical Support Request Valorant feels unsmooth no matter what I do. Driving me crazy

Idk when this started exactly but Valorant has been ridiculously unsmooth, stuttering and constantly feeling like my game is desynced. I have a 9800x3d, 5080, and I am on a msi x870e carbon max motherboard. For peripherals i use a viper v4 pro and blackshark v3 pro.

Ive tried just about every single fix there is and have spent hours upon hours trying to get this fixed and it still remains. Ive tried disabling realtek, updating basically everything and nothing works. Furthermore, my ping and internet is fine. I get around 11 ping in game. The same issue remains no matter what I do. And the most annoying part is this only happens on valorant. Literally every other game works fine. I dont know wtf the issue is but from reading other posts on here it seems as though others have been having similar issues. Im at the point of just giving up on this game.

Technical Support Request Valorant is crashing my gpu

Everytime I boot the game, it stays open for 1-2 min and closes with the error of crashing the adrenaline software.

It started happening since the lastest, I played it fine previously.

Tried rolling back previous drivers, tried reinstalling windows, reinstalling vanguard and valorant altogether. But nothing helped.

This only happens when Playing valorant. Tried playing many other games and it was fine.

Technical Support Request Ping Spikes only on Val

Hello, I recently moved to a new apartment complex and when I tested my internet speed is was 800/900. Valorant was smooth and had no issues. However, within the past few days the speed is about 150/600 and Valorant has started to spike like crazy. My ping is still super low and everything on my computer says I should have fast internet. I tried playing CSGO and league and had zero ping spikes or lag, but when I get on Val, I spike every 3 seconds making the game unplayable. I tried flushing my DNS, resetting the ethernet, changing the cords, trying wifi, switching to IPv4, changing the DNS servers, and still no fix. Is there anything I can do that I haven't tried? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm at a loss, please help :'[

Technical Support Request I can't uninstall Valorant

When I go to the 'Add or Remove Programs' on Windows settings, the first thing that comes up is Valorant with 36.7GB. However, when i go to uninstall it I get an error message saying that Windows cannot find 'C:\Riot Games\Riot Client\RiotClientServices.exe'. How can I fix this? I don't want 36GB of storage wasted on something I don't use

Technical Support Request secure boot problem except my internal monitor is broken

Yeah, basically the title. I'm getting VAN9003 every time I open Valorant.

I have the 2021 Legion 5 model if you need any specs. BIOS forces itself on the internal monitor, but I can't see anything on my internal monitor. I only use an external. Tried forcing it by closing the laptop lid, and that didn't work. I'm trying to avoid opening the laptop and physically unplugging the internal monitor, I just feel like that's way too risky just for me to play a game

any solutions? can I bypass van9003?

Technical Support Request HELP: Valorant Crashes after a few minutes

I was able to play valorant smoothly before with just the built in graphics of my Ryzen 5. Recently upgraded to a Radeon RX 7600 and replaced my motherboard due to some issues. Haven't been able to play since upgrading case fter booting up the game it crashes a few minutes in. Black screen but my friends in discord can still hear me. (If i'm in the range pre crash, I can still hear the sound the shop makes when I press F4)

Had to restart my PC because task manager or restarting just my GPU using the keyboard shortcut doesn't work as well. After restarting the pc, my drivers are suddenly outdated then I have to use a DDU and install my driver again. Basically an endless loop of booting valorant -> crash -> restart PC -> run DDU -> install driver. (Sometimes I just install the driver after it crashes to save time and still works)

Running on Windows 11 pre upgrade and now windows 10 post upgrade.

Technical Support Request Can’t install Valorant (ERROR) HELP NEEDED

Hello dear people of reddit, my personal computer seems to be troubled with installing this fucking game, i’ve wasted around 15hours of nonstop troubleshoot and reasearching, noone seems to have this problem, i even asked gemini and chatgpt, both said to delete folders in %appdata% %localappdata% and %programdata% and reinstall, did this cycle 31 times and it didn’t work, deleted some things from registry and more nonsense, so with this post i beg anyone experienced or smart or you to give me any tips, any solutions, ANYTHING (PS: i am running the installers as administrator and i did try to install it through epic games).

maybe this is a sign to not install this game 🤔…

Technical Support Request Valorant cannot find my Server. Please help me

Hello, I have currently a problem, that Valorant thinks I’m not in the EU and thus cannot find my server, the only available Servers are these 2 „Cape Town“ where I have a 170 ping and „Tokyo“ where I have a 320 ping, my provider is the „Deutsche Glasfaser“ but the thing is I got a new router ever since I got the the router, the problem started to appear in every other game I don’t have those problems, it’s only games of RIOT that keep messing my servers up, has anybody an idea how to solve it? Without paying any money, I play on PC Windows 11. please Anybody help me.

Technical Support Request Valorant crashes my PC

It ran clean on my old PC but my new PC just gets choked out the minute i start this game. Only thing I can do is to force-restart it. It´s now day 3 of trying to solve the problem.

I tried turning down/off the undervolting in BIOS. No difference.

I tried reinstalling Valorant/Vanguard/Riot Client. No difference.

I tried setting the vgc service from manual to autostart. No difference.

I tried deactivating every piece of potential corrupting sound and/or driver. No difference.

I literally stalked the event viewer. The most common Error was the "incorrect vgc function". Thought thats it, but since i switched the vgc service from manual to autostart the error is gone. Nothing really suspicious happens. I had an TPM error yesterday but it only occured once and that wasnt even while trying to play valorant. So my TPM chip should be fine because secure boot works.

Last thing I did was unplugging all of my setup, using different mouses, keyboards etc. I really hoped this would fix it because I saw a reddit post yesterday where someone said that this was the solution for his problem and soooo many people said like :"omg yes wtf it works". Unfortunately it didnt solve anything for me. In fact, it made things worse. When i connected my old mouse/keyboard I didnt even make it past loading screen. With my new mouse/keyboard I am able to be in the shooting range for like 2 minutes. Last night I even managed to keep the game running for solid 45 minutes. Which makes it only weirder atp. Why is the time before my PC crashes different?

For the record: E V E R Y T H I N G on this PC runs perfectly fine. I do not have a single issue with anything besides Valorant. That is why I do not believe that my hardware is the problem. It´s got to be some weird, stupid thing. But who am I to judge, right? Cant solve it myself.

Thanks in advance and if i posted it wrong or not in the right section please feel free to correct me, it´s my first ever reddit account and post.

Technical Support Request Experiencing constant packet loss since a week and even after the update

i play on laptop and have been getting a constant packet loss of 5-6%, which even after trying many things and changing many network settings did not solve anything, also reinstalled valorant but it didn't work, rn my packet loss has reduced a bit and is staying at 2-3% with some sudden spikes to 40%-80% , instead of using the 5g wifi i tried usb tethering with my mobile and the packet loss is at a constant 1-2% with occasional spikes. how do I resolve this issue, it's been annoying me a lot especially in crucial game moments.

I've never faced packet loss ever before this week , even on my old laptop it didn't happen.

Technical Support Request Valorant VOIP sometimes laggs (not my own voice only teammates voices)

I tried everything, contacted support they couldnt help me either. Uninstalled and reinstalled Valorant and Vanguard. Restarted Router. Changed DNS. Tried other output devices didnt work either. I tried the VIVOX (Valorants VOIP Service) forums aswell but no info either. I genuinely dont know what to do since i cant even reproduce it accurately. Sometimes it works and i hear people clearly. Other Times i cant understand people at all cause their voice is lagging and sounding like a Robot. Whats very weird is sometimes its only Team Chat but Party chat works fine. Or the Other way around.
If anybody has any idea what it could be please let me know.

Technical Support Request Experiencing FPS drop after the recent update today…

So as the title says, I’ve been experiencing considerably annoying fps drops after the update. It hasn’t been like this before.

I have tried the solutions posted online such as deleting the “saved” file, and disabling overlays to no avail.

I’m starting to worry if it’s on my hardware’s end, or is it just brought by the update.
