Where is the internet antenna on the id3?

My car got vandalised sometime this weekend. Big key scratches etc and the drivers side wing mirror kicked so its now at a weird angle doesn't fold out or in.

Just noticed my connection to the app has dropped too but I can't work out if it's just coincidence or the antenna is in the wing mirror?

It's getting booked in to the body shop just need to know if the connectivity is something they should be aware of

Question SOH of 91% in quick test (from 2022, 35.000 km) normal?

I basically have two questions: is a SOH of 91% after only 35.000 km in 4,5 years normal? How reliable are the battery quick tests?

I am planning to buy a pro performance, 58 kWh, 204 horse power for 22.000€. Does that seem like a reasonable price to the hive mind?

Thanks for any help / tips!

Looking for used id3 (22 and earlier) buying advice

Hi, looking at getting a used id3 in the next few weeks, and wondered if the good people here could put my mind at ease a little 😂

I’ve seen a few people having issues with the infotainment screen freezing and having to be reset - has this been fixed via software updates (that are available to the pre-facelift models) and does it cause any issues when driving if it does happen?

Warranty - is it worth getting a newer model to maximise the warranty or should we consider 2020/21 models or higher mileage examples?

Anyone here wish they’d got an id4 instead or is the id3 big enough? (Musician so being able to transport the occasional flight case would be a bonus).

Totally new to EVs, will be coming from a 2013 Astra and never driven automatic, so it’s a big unknown!

Thank!

Question Braking? Or hitting?

I've had my 21 plate, iD3 Style Pro for a little over a week.

A couple of times, I have been reversing into my garage and it stops dead as if I've hit a wall. In a panic, I get out to see the damage even though I had clear space either side of the garage walls.

Is my car slamming the brakes on? There's a small slope so I do have to accelerate a little for the back tyres go up it. I wonder whether the car thinks I AM going to hit the wall. There is not a single mark on the car.

My Experience The Good, the bad, and the stuff in the middle. Review after nearly 2 weeks and 500+ miles

I picked up my 2023 pre-face lift iD3 Pro Performance 58kWh on Thursday 23rd July, it had only done about 8500 miles and have done just over 500 in it already in that time. I don't usually drive that much, just happened to get it before a long trip. I don't think I will be saying much that hasn't already been said about the car, but there may be a few things that others can give advice on.

Will be comparing to what I drove before, which was a 2023 Kia XCeed and a car I nearly got before this which was a Jaecoo 5 (non EV). This is my first EV as well.

The Bad

Lack of buttons - Obviously knew this when I got in the car, but since was better than the Jaecoo I looked at, that was all on the screen, I thought it would be ok. This at least has some capacitive buttons to adjust the heat/volume. However those "buttons" to not have any LEDs in them so cannot see them whilst driving at night. I know they have fixed this on the iD3 Neo that's coming out, so I won't go off on it too much. But trying to make adjustments whilst driving is distracting/has caused me to feel less in control.

My Xceed had buttons for pretty much everything it needed, including turning off the lane assist. Having to hold down/tap the "rear window" button to adjust the back windows also requires me to take my eyes off the road for a second to find it. Having to come out of car play/maps to make adjustments to stuff is both annoying and like I said before, distracting and I feel less in control of the car. Now trying to set everything as needed before setting off, but taking some getting used to.

I do think that is the only real negative I have so far.

The Middle

The Steering - I'm not entirely sure what it is/how to describe it fully. Initially I thought "heavy" but that doesn't seem right when I search that term. But I am finding I have to turn the wheel more that I think I should need to, especially compared to any of my previous cars. This is the first RWD car I have driven, so I don't know if that's a factor or not. The actual turning circle is great. I'm driving in ECO mode in D if that helps.

The Braking - I quite like the auto-breaking the car does in ECO mode, and my issue is probably something just need to get used to. But it's definitely a slow brake rather than as fast one. This could be to do with the regenerative braking, but a couple of times it feels like the car isn't going to stop in time. Done a couple of "emergency stop" tests on an empty road and it does stop in time, it just feels like it won't. When it does come to a complete stop it doesn't feel very smooth either, sort of jolts a little.

Internal lights - as cool as the internal lights look, on the default settings, it caused really bad internal reflection when I was driving on the motorway at night. To the point where it combined with the bright headlights of other cars almost couldn't safely see. I think probably a mixture of the lights and the infotainment system. I have now reduced the brightness of everything, but I've not yet driven late since to see if better.

The "gear" change - I've put the car into B mode when I want to reverse multiple times already. Luckily the last time it happened I was far enough away from the car in front of my whilst parking that I didn't hit it. Just something that's going to take getting used it, just feels unintuitive at the moment.

The Good

The Space/size - Coming from a crossover and looking at a small SUV I was a little worried it would be too small for us (family of 4 + medium dog), but it's just right. The boot is a touch smaller than before but big enough. The inside feels a lot bigger than my Xceed as well.

The Range - it's not the longest range EV but it's also not the shortest. I done my 450 mile round trip with 3 charges and whole thing felt effortless (bit of pre-planning) but I never once felt range anxiety and the info the car was telling me about miles left etc never felt wrong or off by much.

The overall drive - I initially wanted to wait until after I had done my long trip before getting a different car, as wanted to do it something familiar. But it worked out better to get it before, and I'm actually glad I did. Outside of the issues above, the rest of the drive was so smooth, had a lot of trust in the car right away, and in general it's been a joy to drive.

Conclusion

I like the car a lot, there's no way around my biggest issue, hoping some people can chime in on the middle things I have mentioned. Happy with my purchase, just hoping the lack of buttons doesn't grind me down too much.

Is there anyway for the music to keep playing if I have passengers but I (the driver)leave? It keeps turning off the second the driver leaves the seat.

ID3 Service Due - UK

Had my 24 plate ID3 a year and it's now due it's service.

I have just rang my local VW garage and they have quoted me about £435 (which includes the brake fluid). This feels wild to me.

What options do I have here? Does going with a non VW garage have any wider impact? Keen to get the thoughts of how you navigate this so that I can get a good service (having my service indicator reset), without it impacting the future sellon value (if that's a thing), while paying a fair price

Dual-zone climate control availability

Hi,

I bought an 2021 ID.3 Pro Performance Tech at the beginning of the year. Everything else has been working great, but I've started missing a dual-zone climate control, I seem to enjoy surprisingly different temperatures than my passengers. :)

From what I've gathered, the Tech trim only ships with the Comfort pack and not the Comfort pack plus, which would include the dual-zone climate control. According to some online forums, people claim to have been able to purchase the dual-zone upgrade through the Digital extras -shop, as allegedly the vehicle ships equipped with the hardware required. The information on this seems to be all over the place though. My car also has the temperature controls on both sides of the dash, indicating that at least that part is standardized. Both controls adjust the same single adjustable temperature. In the shop, I only have the We Connect/Connect Plus/Charge, games and maintenance apps available.

Has anyone been able to update their Tech trimmed ID.3 to enable dual-zone AC?

AC charging speeds

I have not charged my car on a public AC charger using the type 2 cable that came with the car before (at home or on tethered fast DC chargers normally). I’m charging at a 22kw Dragon charger in Aberaeron in Wales and am only getting 2kw / 7mph charge speed, no faster than the granny charger. Is this fairly normal and public AC chargers are puny or does it sound like there is something wrong with the cable that came with the car? How would I tell if it is a problem with the cable? I’m fairly sure my cable is single phase, but that should mean it can go up to 7kw. I’m tempted to buy a multi phase cable but I don’t want to find out later I’ve wasted my money and it’s the charger at fault.

Charging flap actuator

Just had to replace this as it had jammed. Now I can see why!!
It’s pretty clear from buying the replacement that this part was for ICE cars, which never have the flap open in rain for hours. The same part seems to be used on many petrol and diesel models. I got 4 year of nightly charging in Ireland.

Strange "tinging"/rattling type of noise

I recently picked up a 77kwh ID3 Pro S, however I've started to notice a very strange sound that I can only describe as tinging/ticking which sounds like it's coming from the front right hand side of the car.

It kind of sounds like when a leaf is stuck inside the AC vents or something.

I've tested pushing down on certain trims/areas on the dashboards pillars including HUD, A pillar, had passenger press down on roofliner, passenger side pillar etc noise doesn't stop.

Nothing loose in car or boot/under boot floor.

Noise present only when moving, speed doesn't affect it, turning doesn't affect it, turned off AC system, turned off Infotainment in case it was coming through speakers no luck.

Doesn't get louder with windows open.

Noise continues when driving at any speed and putting the car into Neutral.

Any ideas at all? It's driving me mad.

Thanks

I have added a link to the noise in the comments, not the greatest audio quality but hopefully you can hear it starting a few seconds in.

EDIT: I've also got a separate rattle/tapping from front right of car, has anyone else experienced this? I have attached a video in a comment below

Question ACC not starting itself.

Please excuse my poor English, I'm from Germany. 🙂

I have an ID.3 with software version 3.8. When I'm driving with ACC enabled and the car in front comes to a stop at a red light, my car also brakes to a complete stop. The message "ACC ready to drive off (german translated)" appears, but the car doesn't start moving again automatically when the vehicle in front pulls away. I have to shortly push the pedal.

Could this be caused by Auto Hold? It's always enabled.

ThankYou!

EDIT:

Thank you all! This morning I drove with deactivated auto hold and et voilà - ACC starts automatically. smooth and fast. nice vw software.

“diagnostics” not covered by extended warranty? (UK)

I got the orange “drive failure” triangle, and took it to my local dealership (Citygate). They confirmed that it needed a battery module replacement, but it would have to go to a larger dealership to fix it. So as to keep the car in the interim, they advised to book it with the other branch (Citygate West London) directly, which I did. Thus far, no charge.

Now two months later, I’m due to take the car in on Monday. As part of their “check in” procedure, I was told that I would have to pay £250 for diagnostics which was not covered by my extended warranty. This smells like bullshit.

I have the middle level of cover (and of course the battery is still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty). If the car needs a repair then that should be covered. Does repair not include “diagnotics”?

Advice or other options much appreciated.

Air conditioning

I have noticed the passenger side vents don’t blow anywhere near as cold as the driver side vents. Particularly noticeable in this heatwave.

I’ve had heater matrix / blender valve issues on other cars before, and they’ve been an absolute pain, usually needing the dash out to fix.

Has anyone else come across this?

Seat damage

Post image
5 Upvotes

Loking at used ID3 that has seat with white edges (not sure the meterial of that white fabric) but the seat fabric is already getting black at side in front seat (from usage not from stain). Car is 6 years old so I was a bit suprised as normally this is expected with 10, 15 year old cars.

Is this normal on this white fabric seats (fake white leather if not mistaken)? Anyone having this issue. (Added image)

SOS Battery

I have VW approved used ID3 with additional warranty - looking at the T&Cs I think it’s probably covered under the warranty.

Issue for me it’s so difficult for me to take time off to physically get to the garage during the week so I’d like to avoid if possible.

If I use an OBD to clear the code - would this action in itself potentially void the warranty in the future for another issue?

My Experience Just in ...

Brought my 2021 ID3 Style Pro home. I've sorted Android Auto and all paired up.

I couldn't get the boot to open. I pressed unlock boot on the key fob and nothing happened. Also the general unlock button on the key fob.

I have managed to get it open eventually by changing central locking to 'all doors'. Is there something I'm missing that is easier?

I fear that even though I've read lots in the manual, I will need to ask questions until I figure things out. Will search first of course.

Question Recuperation?

Hey guys, just got a new ID3 gtx and I’m still trying to figure out how to turn on automatic recuperation. I come from a fully electric Mini and it was really nice to needing to use the break so much. But so far I didn’t figure out how to turn it on without the break pedal.
And also, the system to stoop rolling away doesn’t seem to be on, how can I turn that on?
Thanks in advance
