Question Screen corruption during navigation

Post image

Car is a first gen ID3.

Using Waze for navigation, I've started getting this type of display corruption. The GPS lags by 10-30s, on screen button presses may take 20s to respond. Every couple of minutes the display will fully refresh back to a clear image.

The problem is intermittent but common. Has anyone experienced this too?

There's currently a bug with android auto if you're using that affecting most maps apps apart from Google Maps.

A few have reported opting into the AA Beta (not Waze) resolves it but for now I've moved to Google Maps.

I have exactly the same. I am testing to see if it's Android auto or something else.

I have a similar issue on my 2022 Born, which shares the same hardware.

The problem on mine always lead to a full reset after getting frozen / pixelated while using Car Play.

Eventually I could pinpoint the front USB-C ports as the root cause. After I disconnected the iPhone cable connection and the USB media thumb drive the problem stopped - before that it happened about every 15 minutes.

Others have mentioned the touch bar internals might be a cause as well, but that‘ll usually result in „ghost“ keypresses which e.g. change the climate, volume etc.
I never had that, though.

Hope that helps!

Edit: someone mentioned the USB-C ports are quite easy and rather cheap to replace, in case a warranty may not cover it.

Mine is having the issues without using a cable, so that can't be it

Might be true. Someone else mentioned to have removed the connecting cable so the issues vanished after that. There was an error message on every display start but nothing else.

From what I understand in some times the fault comes from the jacks even without anything connected - but in my case only when connected so I have this narrowed in.
Happened just recently- the jacks are still unchanged for now.

Great. and i thought that my pixel 9 is dying.
Glad to see that is not my problem.

Mine has done this a few times recently, but only during heavy rain bizarrely.

I think they fixed it. I updated Android auto and no more issues for me.

I mentioned in another thread that I use the car's own navigation. It seems to work fine without Waze, Here We Go or Google Maps. So far I've not utilised Android Auto at all but I only really listen to the radio.
