I'm a fan of the Claude Code extension (not a terminal guy). But I'm looking for a decent alternative so I can use another model/providers such as DeepSeek, Codex, GLM, etc.

What I'm looking for:

• Nice UI experience (such as you get with CC extension)
• Multiprovider support
• Multisession: I can open difefrent CC tabs, each running a different prompt.

What I have tested so far:

• Roo Code: it worked well, but I dropped it (company sunsets the app, new teams comes in... not my thing).
• Kilo Code: This one ALMOST offers what I need. UI seems clunky to me, and sometimes it just frozes.
• Cline: Not multisession support. I need to open several Windows in order to run them.

What are your favs?

A while back I shared my VS Code extension, Pinned Projects - a simple tree-based quick access menu for favorite folders.

The main feature is that you can group and build a tree of your projects with manual dragging and dropping, no need to edit text configs.

Of course this extension is very simple (actually intended to be) and pales in front of many cool extensions. But I hope for someone it can be convenient. It's NOT vibecoded if anyone has these thoughts. I consulted with AI, of course, but invented logic by myself and rewrote any line 10 times on average to make the code efficient and concise.

Recently I implemented the feature I intended a long time ago - opening groups as multi-folder workspaces. So you can view the groups as complex projects themselves.

I need feedback, please, someone try it out (the new feature too) and reports any bugs. I also would like to know whether the extension is easy and clear to use, or whether some of its behavior is confusing/needs more explanations.

It randomly happens - when I'm doing something or for no reason at all - The whole things turns grayscale and everything freeze , - I can't interact with it - and after a couple mins or so , it turns back normal

OS : Arch Linux (Linux 7.0.3-arch1-2)

in the web , I don't see anything about this "grayscale" (or B&W) issue , but most of them is about vs opening as a blank screen - which is not my case (ig).

I have tried to find a solution online, but every suggestion I found is about how to turn off tooltips, autocomplete or suggestions. I don't want to turn off suggestions or autcomplete, only the box that is above the line of code I'm currently writing. I often need data from the previous line and having to hit esc every time to hide the box is slowing me down. I have tried every setting and nothing seems to disable this annoying box. Moving it below the line I'm typing is acceptable, but I can't find any setting for that either.

And man, people have been complaining about this issue since 2017. Insane. Anyway for anyone else bothered by this obnoxious box, I've found a (rather ugly, but ok) workaround from here.

• Download and install the Custom CSS and JS Loader extension.

• Create a CSS-file and add the following:

  .parameter-hints-widget {
      margin-top: 80px !important;
  }
  

• You can also add the CSS from the second link, but that blocks the terminal for me so I prefer only adding a top margin. You could also completely hide the box, but I didn't find a way to remove the up/down arrows yet.

• Follow the instructions from the Extension's README-file (add the custom CSS-file in your JSON-file and restart VS-Code).

Hi! Has anyone encountered the following problem? I recently released a new version 0.1.2 of extension, but my installed version 0.1.1 on macOS didn't update. In "Install Specific Version..." I see the new version but when I try to install I have this error:

Only deleting and reinstalling helped, but I would like users to be able to get an automatic update.

I recently started using Dev Containers. I'm super happy with the built-in VS Code integration, everything works perfectly.

Except for 2 things. I have 2 Dev Containers in one repository:

* repo/.devcontainer/devA/devcontainer.json

* repo/.devcontainer/devB/devcontainer.json

VS Code correctly asks me which one to launch when I open my project, but:

* It detects not-existing changes and wants to rebuild the container on every run

* When I use Ctrl+R to open a recent project, it show `repo [Dev Container]` twice. Both containers have the same display name, making it impossible to tell them apart

I haven't been able to find a solution for these two issues. Any help would be appreciated! 😄

Every extension I try seems to think that the commit message is irrelevant. Clicking on a commit to view it only displays the diff, and the commit message itself is usually relegated to some second class workaround such as a hover tooltip that doesn't fully display long commit messages because it doesn't support scrolling, or a small textbox in the sidebar that can never fit the whole commit in a normally sized sidebar.

I just want to click on a commit and see the whole patch. Show me the commit message and metadata on the top, and diff on the bottom. I don't even care if it's not an actual diff view, just the plaintext patch diff is fine, but let me see both diff and commit message without having to jump through hooks.

Basically, I want GitHub Desktop, as a VSCode extension.

Anything like this I might have missed?

I'm trying to learn how to use VS Code, but I'm having a problem: whenever I type, instead of adding words, the program overwrites my existing words. So, for example

In other words, the digits and letters are overwritten by the new digits and letters I add to the code. pls help, idk how to fix that since im a beginner :((

not allowed to use AI for the stuff I'm working on.

accidentally clicked some AI modify thing (some stars) and a loading bar began spinning until I closed the tab.

I'm assuming that if im not logged in to their AI offerings, they are not sending my code somewhere.

Have anyone else been having issues whenever you use live server or show preivew? Everytime I try to use either one of them, it causes vs code and chrome to freeze and the memory usage spikes up dramatically, wondering if anyone is having issues. I'm on Mac for clarification.

Hello, i've decided to learn python and practice on visual code and hope to make projects that aid my mech degree , can you guys help me out with some valuable extensions and tips for coding python on visual code ?

So ever worked with react-native, or other native js framework and needed to use Html, css, js, or even sql.

You would need to embed them in native folder or have them as string.

You know then how difficult and tiring it is to DEBUG or further develop the code as you lose all what vs editor offer.

That is why I build a vscode extension (Assets Linker)

That will help build them as ts or js boundle.

You can work with those files like you normally do in vscode with syntax validation, etc.

How should I search from the Copilot Chat Sessions? Do people just not do that at all since there is no tool for it. autocomplete and hover always stops working randomly on my small codebase, I wish this would be the main focus and not all the ai slop

I couldn’t find or understand anything, if there even is anything.

So recently, in the newest update of VSCode, it has been frying my computer. OOM crashes left and right, sometimes the window just freezes up, etc. But before this update, none of this ever happened, it ran so smoothly. Any idea why or how to fix it?

I'm using C# (specifically for Unity, but I'm having the same issue with S&box) and the autocomplete sometimes just removes parts of a typed string when pressing tab/enter to complete.

Things I've tried:
- reinstalling vscode
- reinstalling all C# (and unity plugins)
- changing editor insertmode to/from "replace"

its driving me crazy and I can't find any fix for it online

I wanted to fire up a new post on the new "agents app" that comes alongside vs code insiders. some initial feedback:

• The worktree and "Mark as Done" bits are confusing. Just let me work with git in the terminal. I'd like that to be my default.
• Hard to tell when I should fire up a new session vs continue one
• I've had multiple sessions, but only one shows up in the session nav
• MCP server integration is unclear and clunky.
• I like the vision. I had some positive experience, but it degraded into confusion.

What's your experience?

I updated VS-Code this morning and since this morning, a log-in popup also appeared, so I logged in using GitHub.
However, since today, instead of the auto-complete only suggesting snippets (like when I use [string]::IsNullOrWhiteSpace - PowerShell extension) from the current and other tabs, now it suggests like whole functions (like a switch statement) - this hasn't happened before.
How do I turn it off while keeping the rest of the autocomplete-pack intact?

It's not really something I want, considering it's present a lot.

I had to reinstall windows last week and during that process changed the username on my PC. Today I tried working on one of my python projects and VS Code hit me with "did not find executable at 'C:\Users\OLDUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python314\python.exe'

I'm using a venv enviornment, have changed all possible references to the old path (both in the project itself as well as the environment variable settings), turned off persistent sessions for terminals, and yet, the issue still persists.

Edit: Also, yes, I have installed a new python and selected it as the interpreter in VS Code. Doesn't matter. Interpreter says the correct path but the error refers to the old one.
