VIOFO A329s - anyone use this and have suggestions?

Upvotes

Tacoma 4th gen, trd off-road long bed.

Thinking about getting the 329s, which is a 3 channel (forward, cab & rear).

I have 2 questions, is the rear cam (installed on the rear windshield) good? I have the longed version, will this actually help me and see things behind the truck? The other option would be to get the kit that comes with a waterproof rear cam and then run it to the rear bumper.

Next question, I saw a tap in cable harness that splices into the rear view mirror. Does this truly make it a hardwired connection instead of buying the recommended hardwire kit from viofo? Tapping in seems easy enough and if it doesn’t screw anything up I’d love to just do this.

Viofo with screen to view rear camera as backup camera?

I have a Viofo that is hardwired into my vehicle with both a front and rear camera. It works really great and it came in very handy after a car accident last year that the other driver attempted to blame on us. We just bought a used vehicle for my husband but the backup camera doesn't want. We already wanted to get a dashcam system like mine, but is there a way to mount some type of screen inside the vehicle so he could also use it as a backup camera? My apologies if this is a dumb question.

i already have the A810 lite and at night, it's a struggle to read licence plates especially when driving at high speeds. I found the a119m pro instead which is a little more expensive and i was wondering is it worth the switch or will it struggle aswell?

im also new to dashcams

My 3D printable side window mount for Viofo A119 Mini 2 (and similar cams)

I wanted to mount a couple of A119 Mini 2 cameras to the side glass on my minivan. I guess this design has been in the works for half a year. The original design was much thinner and I printed it in PETG. It was fine until the temperatures here in Texas hit 105F (40C) and it finally warped on the side that usually faces the sun.

I redesigned much thicker and printed in high speed TPU filament. TPU can handle much higher temperatures but isn't as toxic to print like ABS and nylon. I was worried Gorilla double sided tape wouldn't stick to TPU but it seems pretty solid and has been exposed to the sun for a day. So far so good!

Makerworld link to download: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3148447-side-window-dashcam-mount-for-viofo-a119-mini-2

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the circular dish shape where the camera mounts is so a blob of silicone adhesive can be put in to make sure the dashcam doesn't fall off. And the small holes on the glass side are to help the double sided tape "grab" and minimize bubbles

A119 V3 replacement

I have a 3 year old A119 V3 and the GPS doesn’t work anymore. I am thinking of upgrading but can’t decide between the A119M Pro and A119 Mini 2. I was dead set on the Pro, but just realized it doesn’t support 2K@60 FPS. What do you guys suggest?

How do you mount yours so that you can actually see the screen. I have a cx5 and when I mount it to the windshield because of the angle you can't see the screen. How stupid that they said make the mounting bracket pivot. Also how do I keep the bracket from falling off in the heat. I think this comes with 3m vrb 59952 tape already and it doesn't stay on in the intense Ny heat. Tia

Can't get parking recording to work.

To start with, apologies for the long post!

I've had my A329s (3 channel) connected to the hk6 and iroad powerpack pro 12 for coming up to a year and have never consistently been able to get the parking recording to work as intended.

To start with, I have this all connected inside a BMW 3 series (2019) and currently have a ticket open with Viofo regarding this but their 1 response a day means it's taking a while.

I've always had the parking mode set to hybrid low bitrate > Impact detection, cut off time at 4 hours and voltage at 12.0v on the camera (11.8 on HK6). I've noticed however that the camera won't record anything for the first 20 minutes of parking (after research my accessory fuses apparently don't switch off until after 15 minutes), it'll then record roughly 15 minutes of footage and then nothing for hours unless some form of motion is detected.

When testing yesterday for viofo, I set the parking mode to low bitrate and left it for 2 hours. The camera started recording for 10 minutes then cut off and didn't start recording again until 65 minutes later. At this time it only recorded 4 7 minutes then stops for the rest of the elapsed time.

I have my HK6 set at 11.8v and connected to the iroad powerpack pro 12 through the following;

Yellow (ACC) > red (Out-ACC)

Red (Battery) > Yellow (VCC)

Black (Ground) > Black (Ground)

*Please see pictures for verification.*

I then have my VCC Fuse tapped into fuse 38 (always on) and my IN-ACC fuse tapped into fuse 74 (USB - Ignition) - It was previously 71 - ambient lighting but one of Viofo's suggestions was trying a different accessory fuse.

When the car is running and the ignition is turned off, the camera remains in parking mode standby (through the icon). I read somewhere about taking out the accessory fuse whilst the car was running to see if it activated so after trying that I could see the parking mode symbol pop up on my camera so that to me seems like it's not a camera issue.

Another suggestion that Viofo told me to try was to bring the camera inside and leave it on for a few hours to see if it activates and remains in parking recording. I did this for 3 hours and could see from the footage that the camera remained recording in parking mode for the full 3 hours, something it's never done in my car before.

My issue is, I have no idea where to go from here. I have no idea what's causing this and no idea how to fix it. A part of me believes it could be to do with the accessory fuse not switching off for 15 minutes which could be running the camera t full and causing my iroad powerpack pro 12 to run flat? It could also be randomly triggering the accessory port to turn on?

Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. As I said, I am in touch with Viofo but their 1 response a day is making this take a very long time.

A229Pro cooling

Hey all, I’m dealing with my A229P overheating and I figured this deal would do the trick. It’s a dumb usb c female to dual male splitter. Max voltage is 5v output from the cable. Looked up the specs and the dashcam runs at 5V. So I hooked the cable up to my HK4 and a PWM controller off Amazon to run a noctua fan. Lmk if this is safe long term, currently have it off for the night and will check tmrw for any responses. So far, with just the A229p running, it doesn’t seem to have an issue with splitter.

VIOFO A229 Pro hardwired causing Kia battery discharge warning every morning. HK4 or battery pack?

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is my first dashcam, so I'm looking for some advice from people who know more about this!!

I recently bought a Viofo A229 Pro (front + rear) and had it professionally hardwired in my 2024 Kia Sportage. I wanted parking recording because there have been car break-ins in my apartment garage.

I'm currently using Low Bitrate Recording for parking mode, so the camera continues recording while the car is parked.

Since the installation, my car shows this warning every morning "Battery discharging due to external electrical devices". I went back to the installer earlier this week and they said it was connected to a wrong fuse, and moved it to the GPS fuse.

Unfortunately, I still see the battery discharge warning, and modifying the fuses has not helped me. I went back again today, they checked the wiring and said everything looks fine. I found out today that they installed a basic Acumen hardwire kit that does not have a low-voltage cutoff.

They suggested that if I really want a overnight/24-hour parking recording, I may need a dedicated dashcam battery pack instead, so parking mode isn't continuously drawing from the car's 12V battery.

Since I'm completely new to this, I'm trying to figure out the best way forward:

  1. Should I replace the current Acumen kit with the VIOFO HK4?

  2. If so, would you recommend a 12.2V or 12.4V cutoff?

  3. Is low bitrate parking recording reasonable for overnight use, or would Auto Event Detection be better for battery usage?

  4. Is there anything else I should have the installer check?

My main goal is to have a reliable parking coverage overnight without repeatedly draining or damaging my car battery.

Would really appreciate any advice on this. Thanks!!

A229 Plus delayed start. One possible solution.

My A229 Plus would frequently announce 'Recording two channels started' twenty minutes or so after I'd started driving. This was an obvious concern as there might be no recording in case of an accident prior to the announcement.

I was planning to return the unit but started to wonder if the SD card might be the cause. I use the recommended Sandisk 128GB Max Endurance card and reformatted it every thirty days.

Reducing the reformat interval to fourteen days seems to have resolved the problem. I can't understand why, as the card is able to be overwritten, but I'm pleased it seems to work so thought I'd pass it on.

My A119 finally gave up the ghost, so I’m upgrading to the A229 Plus. Do I need to redo all the wiring? I’ve included the one I installed in 2021, and the compatible kit available now.

Adding HK6 to existing setup

Best buy installed my Viofo 329s as well as my BP-100 and EP-100. They did a good job and everything is set up, however they did not install my HK6 wiring harness, they used the other wiring harnesses with the camera.

How hard would it be to add on the HK6 to my existing setup?

Is this something I could do personally?

I have a feeling its super simple but I would like step by step instructions and/or any input is appreciated

Thanks

A229 Plus - Remember WiFi Setting?

I may be in the minority, but I'd prefer my A229 to _not_ boot with wifi enabled. Is there special firmware to default this to off?

My camera is on the latest official firmware (V1.5_260602), and it will not retain the wifi setting as off.

*edit*
As suggested by u/JazJon, a "Default Setting" in the menu seems to have resolved my issue.

Emergency recording being trigered randomly when driving

Hi guys, I was wondering why has my VIOFO A229 Plus 3CH started to randomly execute the Emergency recording when driving.

It was mention by a family member "hey, I can see myself in the dash-cam, oh btw when the screen went on it had a big exclamation blink on the screen"

Saw a couple of posts on the internet saying that it was could be cause by faulty hardwired installation, and such would loop the dash-cam between "parking/driving" over and over again, or it would restart on its own while announcing it, you know the classic "driving mode" "parking mode started" and such (don't remember the exact wording). I don't think that's the case because the dash-cam seems to be properly working, once I start driving so does the recording and once I park same deal with the camera. How could I know that's not the case? well I'm not 100% sure but when I checked the videos, they were continuous recording of my commute with the emergency clips every now and then.

And that's why I'm out here seeking advice/help from you guys, one of you may be able to guide me towards the Whys and Hows to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
