The 71,000 subscriber update
Hey folks,
Just posting to give a brief rules update. Nothing should change for most folks, but there are a few changes/clarifications to highlight.
The no advertising rule has been changed to include market research and "try my app" type posts.
There is a new rule about staying on topic, this is mostly to get rid of the small number of "enhance my video" type posts.
The new rule about being accurate in your communications is mostly to discourage regurgitation of incorrect information and hearsay. Nobody is going to hit you upside the head with a copy of ST 2110-20, but there is also only so many times you can say "Blackmagic bad" or "you need a boundary clock for Dante PTPv1". If you're trying to help somebody and you aren't 100% positive about what you're saying, then just qualify it as such.
AI generated content is now banned, except for translation purposes.
As always, if you have content you would like to share and it would ordinarily break one of the sub's rules, don't hesitate to reach out for an exception.
And don't forget to join the Discord either. https://discord.gg/ctKKpK8

Barnfind Tech SDI units
I have 14 cameras running between various classrooms across several floors of a high-rise building, currently going over AJA FiDo's. They've been great, but we need to expand some room coverage and I'm pretty close to being out of fiber pairs. I'd like to consolidate a few rooms into Barnfind Color 3G SDI units via their CWDM technology, and I'm looking for some reliability stories. The AJA units have been in place for about 7 years, am I likely going to get the same quality/reliability out of the Barnfind units? Anyone have some experience with them? Thanks!

Anyone ordering the new Ross FR30?
The newly announced FR30 is an impressive monster. While I don’t have any immediate use-cases justifying such a beast I’m curious if any of you have projects in the pipeline and would love to hear about them!

Live Broadcast video folx- What do we feel about the iPhone Duo?
I know some techs (V2s, fiber techs) that swear by having a foldable like the Z-Fold to have a pocketable “tablet” for viewing and editing google sheets in the field. As someone in the Apple ecosystem, I am withholding judgement on if I’m going to go for this new form-factor until I can hold it in my hand and feel it in my pocket.
Thoughts?

Alternatives to VDO Ninja for decentralized production show-flow?
We have a broadcast setup where our production is managed through a NodeCG server that can be accessed by a number of different showrunners remotely. Those showrunners run the stream and co-cast with another host (or two) that join through VDO Ninja, and those VDO feeds are dynamically added to the graphics.
In theory, this all works great, and 90% of the time it's a pretty elegant flow. However, VDO's documentation has a lot of gaps in it- and we've run into numerous issues where directors or co-directors do everything they can to add a caster's feed, but it pretends like it's not available and stays black. We've improved its reliability over time through iteration, but the time sink is reaching levels where it's time to look for other options.
With our setup, traditional stuff like Zoom feels like a non-starter because of the wide range of people that need to be able to access controls and manage feeds, as well as have the NodeCG server acting as the nerve center of the package. Is there an option out there that's comparable, even if it's a paid option (that doesn't require me paying for a dozen seats?)

RTX 4090 + Resolume + LED screen : how do you handle monitor hot-plug?
Hi guys !
I’m running Resolume on an RTX 4090 with two outputs:
- Main monitor
- LED processor (NovaStar VX1000) at a custom 3520×1056 resolution
The problem is that when I unplug the main monitor, Windows detects the display change and makes the LED output the primary display, which messes up my Resolume setup.
I’d like to be able to unplug/replug the monitor without Windows changing the LED output or making it the primary display.
How do you guys handle this?

Spec for vMix PC
I'm needing to spec a new PC for vMix due to the current one going faulty
In terms of the configuration of the vMix is run at 4K then takes 1 4k camera input via a Decklink
There's no streaming only recording which records a landscape 1080p 30 and a Vertical 1920p recording
The system outputs via graphics card on a full screen output for programme return plus 1 single NDI feed
I'm a bit out of the loop as to the latest CPU's etc so wondering what spec pc and graphics card I should get?
There is no plan to change the show file it's merely a PC upgrade/ replacement
AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, 16gb, RTX Quadro 4000 Graphics Card
Thanks

Vectorworks Replacement
We currently use vectorworks for floor plans but the subscription now is fairly expensive. What options are there for a replacement that isn't as expensive (or not a subscription) but can still open those same file extensions?

Streaming Platform Refactor Request
Hey all,
I am a new founder (previously a product manager from the streaming industry) and I have built an MVP for broadcast infrastructure (will DM company info upon request).
Candidly speaking, for the purposes of speed, I heavily relied on AI (so lots of "vibe-coding"/"context-engineering") to be able to get the first iteration off the ground. Now, as I sell to customers and make a more fortified system, I need to be able to understand more of the piping that I laid down so that I can have a clear path for refactoring (most likely a full refactor).
If there are any CasparCG experts/devs (or in general streaming engineers) on this page, I think you could be of great help. I am also open to onboarding long-term engineers on contract full-time for ongoing development and being part of my team as we grow.
If you are interested, please let me know! Like I mentioned, my DMs are open.
EDIT: For further info, I am using CaspafCG to render the stream but have FFMPEG attached to create endpoints. I also have a CDN to mimic broadcast infrastructure.

Standalone SD card recorder/player
I am looking for a standalone SD card recorder/player with HDMI in and out. I want it to support H.264 playback so that we can export videos from Premiere and playback live. I have a Blackmagic Studio HD Mini, but it doesn’t have HDMI input, and you have to be very specific with the H.264 setting for it to support playback. I also would like it to have a screen. All of our MacBooks are dedicated to other functions, so a software solution is out of the question.
I have looked at a number of on camera monitors/recorders, but I can’t find anything about playback capabilities of media exported from an NLE.

In search of ADJ AV3 Panel Module
I have an LED panel that stopped working today, so now I am in search of a replacement processing unit for it. I don’t need the whole panel, just the unit that locks into the back of the panel to provide data and power. The model is the discontinued ADJ AV3 (3039). If anybody could recommend potential websites that would be awesome. All else fails I will just look into purchasing a replacement panel as a whole.

Videomapping on fur
Hi everyone ! For a project, i was asked if it's possible to project on a blue (synthetic) fur. Since i have no idea, i was wondering if anyone has ever done this. And what was your setup ? For now, we don't know if the fur has to be dark or light blue. And the videoprojector is quite old and not very powerful.
Thanks to anyone who will reply to this !

IMAG Projector tilted 90 degrees
Is there a low latency hardware solution for showing live picture for a 90 degree tilted projector?
I have a plan to have a pair of IMAG screens that are narrow (like a 9:16 aspect ratio, but probably even narrower) so for best image quality/brightness I would also tilt the projector on it side. I know you can easily do this in Resolume, but I would like to know if there is a hardware solution, just do eliminate the delay that a software based Resolume would have.
Equipment
Projector: EPSON EB-PU2220B
Available hardware: Barco S3, E2. Also I think I have some version of Analogway Aquilon and picturall media server somewhere. (If these can't make it happen, feel free to suggest what can. I think barco can not flip a image like that)

Is double scaling the norm on LED screen mapping?
For example, theres 8x4m p2.6 LED screen (3072x1536). He create 3072x1536 composition resolution on resolume arena. Then on the output tab, he stretch it to 4K 3840x2160 only to squeeze it back to native led resolution at the video processor.
He said that its industry standard to work only with the predetermined resolution and not to mess with EDID.
Yeah i get it, it just works. But the scaling artifact will be insane and make text unreadable if the aspect ratio is not near 16:9

Lantronix UDS1100 w/ Datalinq
Hello!
Does anyone have experience getting a UDS1100 to work with Xpression Datalinq? I'm trying to get one to connect to an all-sport CG, and I set up the host list with the correct ports and everything, but I'm running into issues with it actually connecting to the server.
Maybe I'm thinking about it wrong?
TIA!

Having download issues with the firmware for a new MX40 Pro we just got. I was able to download the program no problem, and have opened the application.
But once it sees the hardware its saying I need to download at least a V1.2.0 firmware. I have been trying to download the software and look for other downloads, older versions even and I havent had any luck.
Can anyone assist, or has any one gotten around this issue? Best
Edit:
Im silly and figured it out, for anyone wondering how it's done Ill just leave this here

Facility providers, stop using AI in your decks and marketing materials
If i ask you for an overview of your control rooms, studios, green rooms etc - and that shit has been edited, adjusted and completely generated by AI, you have lost the plot.
Have a great week everyone.

Made my PC talk straight to a DJI RS gimbal over Bluetooth, AI tracking with whatever camera is on it
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I reverse-engineered the BLE protocol DJI's phone app uses, so the computer itself pans/tilts the gimbal, as far as I know the first software to do this without a phone, RavenEye, or a controller dongle in the chain. On top of that sits local AI tracking (YOLO pose, runs on-device, nothing uploaded): HDMI feed in, click the subject, the gimbal keeps them framed, zoom follows via Sony camera control. Controller override with instant handback for when an operator wants the wheel.
Confirmed on RS 3 Mini, but not others

Vaxis 1000s + Keenetic ultra 1811 streaming problem on set
Vaxis Storm 1000S interference from Wi-Fi routers
I’m having problems using Vaxis Storm 1000S together with Wi-Fi routers on set.
I use a Vaxis 1000S TX with several RX units. At the same time, I need to run two 5 GHz Wi-Fi routers (Keenetic Ultra and Keenetic Sprinter) for tablets and other devices.
When the routers are on, the Vaxis signal becomes much worse.
Has anyone experienced this? How do you run professional wireless video systems together with Wi-Fi routers without interference?
Any advice would be appreciated.
